Love Is... #5

The Layover

Rate this book
Macy Monroe has spent two years living and working in Rome, dreaming about moving back home to Port City. That dream finally comes true when her assignment ends and she finds a new job and new apartment back in the States. As a last hurrah in Europe, she books a layover in Paris for a long weekend full of sightseeing and all the baguettes and cheese she can eat. But her plan hits a snag when a hotel snafu leaves her stranded by the Seine with nowhere to stay.

Fate steps in when she runs into Beckett McLane, her ex-boyfriend from college. He’s in town working on his next novel and offers her a place to stay. Beckett’s the kind of handsome that you never really forget, and Macy’s heart is still a little broken from the breakup. Without any other options, she reluctantly takes him up on the offer.

Macy encourages work-obsessed Beckett to take a much-needed break from his laptop, and as he shows her around town, they get caught up in the romantic City of Light. When they’re together, it’s easy to forget that Macy’s only on a layover and their time together is running out…

I don't know ifnthis could be called a novella but it's not too long not that short. The blurb is cute, I like the idea of a layover and thst second chance romance. Macy and Beckett broke amicably they went on different paths in life. Seems like fate that when Macy has a layover in Paris before going home that they bump into each other. Seems like fate.

It's pretty fast paced. It's obvious there's lingering feelings on both ends, as much as Macy wants to ignore them. I get Macy's feelings toward wanting roots after traveling around. It's so complicated since the feelings seem mutual of longing. The closure on the breakup. Beckett as sweet as he is and a good boyfriend type, is stuck in his work a writer. They both are in different directions again timing sucks.

It's a pretty sweet and sentimental story of a love story that didn't really end but meeting in Paris had all those feelings back rushing back in. They didn't take the second for granted, instead of walking away this time they walked towards the other. Not bad for a new to me author wish it was a tad longer. I hope Beckett's sister Skye has a book ahead.

This a second chance romance between former college sweethearts Macy Monroe and Beckett McLane. These two broke up four years ago because Macy wanted to travel and Beckett wanted to settle down in their hometown of Port City. Macy is on her way back home to Port City and is finally ready to settle down in one place, while Beckett gave up the day-to-day grind of architecture and found his own success as a bestselling author based in France. Their accidental meeting in Paris after so many years apart was bittersweet because they were obviously still in love with each. Can Macy and Beckett give there relationship another chance before its too late and realize that they belong with each other. I loved reading this book and can't wait to see what she writes next.

I love stories that don't have much drama but has enough to keep you entertained. Macy and Beckett find each other again by chance, or fate and even though they are in different paths again in life, they decide to take the second chance they've been given. It's sweet, sexy, and funny.

I miss Paris
This wonderful book is about Macy and Beckett. They’re old flames. Macy has been living and working overseas for a few years now. And before returning home, she’s decided to spend a few days winding down in Paris (because, why not?!). Beckett is living in Paris, and is working on his next big novel. They serendipitously bump into each other. It seems like fate. Will they get a second chance at a love of a lifetime?
They spend some time seeing the sights, and getting Macy out of her comfort zone. I loved how descriptive everything was. I really felt like I was there with them. They visited some of my favourite parts of Paris, and other places that are now on my wish list! And whilst it wasn’t easy for them to totally let their guards down, after having their hearts broken, they almost picked up where they left off. There was so much familiarity but with no particular expectations. I spent most of the read smirking, smiling, sighing and swooning!
I loved this book SO much, but the only let down was that it ended… I can’t wait to see what these wonderful characters might be up to in the next book – I’m really hoping we might get a sneak-peek into what they’re up to ;) This story makes me crave for overseas travel again, and especially Paris – one of my favourite cities!
This was my first time reading this author’s work, and I’m definitely going to be reading more! I could hardly put it down! highly recommend this read, and give this book four and a half Parisian stars xo

"The Layover" by Cassie Cross features a well-crafted second chance romance between former college sweethearts Macy Monroe and Beckett McLane, who broke up four years ago because Macy wanted to travel and have adventures while Beckett wanted to settle down in their hometown of Port City and take over his father's architecture firm. In the present, their circumstances were reversed; Macy was on her way home to Port City and finally ready to settle down in one place, while Beckett had given up the day-to-day grind of architecture and instead found success as a bestselling author based in France. Their accidental meeting in Paris after so many years apart was bittersweet because they were obviously still drawn to each other, but they were once again at very different places in their lives and not sure how to make a relationship work.

Macy and Beckett were both quite likeable, and I was impressed by how much character development the author managed to pack into such a short (novella-length) story. I enjoyed their witty banter as they explored Paris together and fell in love all over again, and it was very easy for me to cheer them on to their HEA.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this cute, sweet, and funny story and highly recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to the next book in this series, which will feature Beckett's sister, up-and-coming Hollywood actress Skye McLane.

Macy Monroe is heading home after living abroad for a few years but first she is taking a much-needed break in Paris for a few days to binge on carbs and see the sights. What she does not plan on is literally running into her old flame in the middle of the street. Can she leave him behind when it is time to go home?
Beckett McLane is living in Paris writing his next best-selling novel when he runs straight into the one woman, he has not stopped loving. When all those old feelings start coming up, can he let her go again?
What a sweet love story. I absolutely adored Cassie Cross’s writing style and I could feel the connection between Macy and Beckett right from the beginning and I loved seeing Paris along with them. I have only one complaint! The story was not long enough, I did not want the book to end and I mean this in the sincerest way possible. It was so good, I just wanted to stay in Paris a little longer. Although this is book five in the “Love Is” series, I did read it as a stand a lone novel. I am excited though to go back and read the series from book one. Thank you so much to the author Cassie Cross and BookSprout for an advanced copy of the book to review. It was fabulous! All opinions expressed for this review are unbiased and entirely my own.

Macy has enjoyed the experiences and travel that her job offered but what she is really looking forward to is returning to her hometown and laying down some roots. When her dream weekend in Paris takes a turn, she happens to run into Beckett the only man she has ever loved.

Beckett is a successful author who now lives in Paris. Macy has always owned his heart and their relationship ended not because they didn’t love each other but that their dreams for the future were different. Will this be their second chance or are they destined to end in heartbreak for a second time?

The chemistry and connection between Macy and Beckett is stronger than ever and with a helping hand from fate and maturity they may just find out that love is all that really matters.

After two years in Rome, Macy Monroe is finally going home. But she decides to have a quick layover in Paris to go sightseeing and enjoy the food in the beautiful city before she leaves Europe behind. Unfortunately, the hotel has a problem and cannot accommodate her stay. All the other places are filled and she has no place to stay.

As she wanders the streets, she can hardly believe it when she sees Beckett McLane, her former boyfriend and lover! He offers to let her to stay with him. She is fully aware that she still has feelings for him. But with no other choice, she feels compelled to accept his kindness.

As they tour the city together, Paris works its magic on them. Can they let each other go a second time? Or is this finally the right time for their love?

Another short, sweet book in Cassie Cross's Love Is series.

Macy and Beckett's story is, I believe, the first set outside of Port City. They knew each other and dated while living there, but run into each other in Paris. I thought the second chance romance trope worked great here as they already had a foundation and history. Their previous relationship is definitely referenced, but the action started more quickly than if they had to do a bunch of getting to know you.

I loved all the attractions and locations in Paris that Macy and Beckett went to. It was a perfect backdrop for then to rekindle their relationship.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I found it to have great character development for a novella. It is a sweet story that will make you wish you could find the one ex-boyfriend that can still makes your heart beat faster when you think of them and spend some time together for old times sake. Wish this was a longer book as I definitely would have enjoyed spending more time with Beckett and Macy. After finishing the book I realized I'll just have to keep looking in crowds until I find my own Beckett.

This title was short and, honestly, a little shorter than I was expecting. There was a lot in the story of Macy and Beckett and I do think it would have worked as a longer book.

That said, it also worked fairly well as a short story. I think the instalove stories are often best served when they are also 2nd chance books, as the idea that part of the relationship happened off the page is not only expected in those, but it also lends itself well to a shorter story with less time to explain all of the details and emotion.

And, it worked here. I love Paris, so spending a little time in Paris was a bonus.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

The author did a nice job of bringing this story to life with her vivid descriptions and well-developed scenes. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more by this author.

What a cute quick read about second chance romance. Before returning to the states, Macy decides to spend some time in Paris only to literally run into someone she never thought she'd see again. Fate steps in and brings Macy face to face with her true love, Beckett. Can these two people find what they lost and make lasting memories in the city of love? 4 stars

This was a very sweet second chance romance. This was quite a quick read and I would class it more as a novella and for that reason I never really felt that there was a lot of depth to the story or characters. That said, as the characters had a clear back story, the romance element was believable. This was a drama free, sweet romance that was a pleasant read.

This is a quick, little read about a couple of former lovers who bump into each other in Paris and get together. Short and sweet. Their romance is so simple, effortless and self-evident love that it's a little hard to get why they couldn't make it work to begin with.

This is such a sweet little read! A super-short second-chance romance that manages to bring the feels and had me falling in love.

It’s book #5 in the Love Is… series, but can absolutely be read as a standalone. We do see characters from previous books, but not in a spoilery way, in a way that makes me want to read their stories and get to know them better. And there’s a hint for a future book in the series, that I’m also excited to read. I’m so glad I picked this one up!

Macy has been working in Europe for the last few years, travelling around from place to place, and now she’s ready to return home to the US and finally put down some roots. Her final hurrah before flying home is a few days in Paris, but an infestation of bed bugs finds her without a hotel in the middle of Paris fashion week with nowhere to stay.

And then she literally crashes into Beckett, her boyfriend from College, and the guy she’s never been able to get over. He’s living in France now and is in town temporarily writing a novel, and he offers her a place to stay, with a bit of sightseeing on the side. It’s a recipe for disaster, but all out of options and drawn to Beckett like she’s always been, Macy accepts.

When the relationship doesn’t work because of the people in it, that’s one thing. When it doesn’t work because it’s just not the right time, it leaves the door open for a ton of what-ifs. I’ve never been able to stop thinking about them.

Oh, I love these two together! You can see that there is still a lot of emotion between them, and Macy drags Beckett away from his laptop to explore the wonders of Paris. They laugh, tease and have fun, and while reconnecting, all of those feelings between them come roaring to the surface.

“I never stopped loving you,” he whispers.
The words make me feel like I’m flying. “I never stopped loving
you,” I whisper back.
He looks up at me. “Then what the hell are we doing?”

It's sweet, flirty, romantic, and I loved how honest these two are with each other. Everything between them is real and raw (and hot!), and I was happily whisked away with them as they found their way back to each other.

“We walked away from this once, Mace. I don’t want to do that again.”

It’s only 77 pages, but the author managed to make me feel so much for these characters and their story, and I just loved this one!

4 dreamy stars.
