Join former college roommates Molly Ferris, Laura Donovan, and Carol MacCallan as they reunite to open a bakery in bonny Loch Mallaig, Michigan, a place where the iconic sounds of Great Highland bagpipes fill the air, kilts never go out of fashion, and mysteries surface with curious regularity. Undaunted when they discover that the only retail space available in the charming Gaelic town is a former funeral parlor, event planner Molly, NYC chef Laura, and retired math teacher Carol bravely fire up the Scottish bakehouse of their dreams, Bread on Arrival, in the old Victorian mansion.
Powered by friendship, moxie, and plenty of tasty Scottish treats, the Bakehouse Three tackle every challenge that arises - including unsolved murder. From rekindling auld alliances and sparking new ones to chasing cryptic clues wherever they lead, the fiftysomething women prove that it's never too late to embark on a fresh adventure. Pour a cup of tea, nibble on some shortbread, and get caught up in the mysteries of Loch Mallaig!
Sandra leaps off the garden trails of her herbal-researcher-turned-amateur-sleuth (Port Aster Secrets) series, to the museum corridors of her plucky FBI art crime agent Serena Jones, in A Fool and His Monet.
When not plotting crimes, Sandra plays make-believe with her grandchildren or hikes with her hubby along the escarpment, near their home in Niagara, Canada.
Her novels have garnered numerous awards, including the National Readers' Choice Award, a Holt Medallion Award of Merit, an RT Book Reviews Reviewers' Choice Award, the Daphne DuMaurier Award of Excellence and five national Canadian Awards.
Another fun mystery that takes place in the humble town of Loch Mallaig, Michigan. A beautiful Scottish town right here in America. A woman has gone missing! Time is running out to find her, as her diabetic supplies must surely be dwindling. As the reader, we just have no idea if she's been kidnapped, or if she could be stranded somewhere in the wilderness on one of the many hiking trails outside of town. The story really picked up more for me about halfway through, the mystery seemed more real with clues starting to add up. I really do like this series and look forward to reading more!
After finding the third book in this series a bit disappointing, this one was better again. This one had more focus on Carol, and a bit more of the friendship theme was back in the book. The clues were there for the ending to make sense, and per usual with this type of book, you didn't have to think too hard about it - making it a great pool/beach read.
This one started out as my least favorite of the series, but I enjoyed it more by the end. This one actually mentions prayer in it, which I appreciate.
