OMG De’Veon was funneeeee however, he was way too old to be behaving that way. Seventeen or eighteen years old, almost a man, getting ready to graduate and still bullying a girl because he likes her. Nope! Yes, his disses were funny, but he went too far when he mushed her face with the cake, tripped her and said she lived in a cardboard box and stank. There is no coming back from physical violence and a boy saying that a girl stinks. Again nope!
I don't see how Ze'Cheray could still even look him in the face let alone have feelings for him after all he said and did to her. There are a few bonding scenes--like when De'Veon gives Ze'Cheray a ride home from the mall when it starts to rain. That was a beautiful moment. These scenes were interspersed between nonstop disses and public humiliation, which, by the way, were very well written.
The book was great and then took a nosedive when Ze'Cheray's ex was introduced into the story out of nowhere. I thought she was a sweet, innocent who never had a boyfriend, and then this guy is introduced about 2/3 of the way through the story and becomes a focal point. Also, the grandma's personality changed too. She went from wise counsel to jokester.
I would have liked to see De'Veon and Ze'Cheray gradually grow throughout the story. I was okay with the end, but it was too sudden.
