Tamar really struggled writing this bio, in part because it’s in third person, but mostly because she hasn’t decided whether she’s primarily a psychologist who loves writing, or a writer with a lifelong fascination with psychology.

She must have been someone pretty awesome in a previous life (past life regression indicated a Care Bear), because she gets to do both. Beginning her career as a youth worker, then a secondary school teacher, before becoming a school psychologist, Tamar helps children and teens to live and thrive despite life’s hurdles like loss, relationship difficulties, mental health issues, and trauma.

As lover of reading, inspired by books that sparked beautiful movies in her head, Tamar loves to write young adult romance. To be honest, it was probably inevitable that her knowledge and love of literature would translate into writing emotion driven stories of finding life and love beyond our comfort zones. You can find out more about Tamar’s books at www.tamarsloan.com

A lifetime consumer of knowledge, Tamar holds degrees in Applied Science, Education and Psychology. When not reading, writing or working with teens, Tamar can be found with her husband and two children enjoying country life on their small slice of the Australian bush.
The driving force for all of Tamar’s writing is sharing and connecting. In truth, connecting with others is why she writes. She loves to hear from readers and fellow writers. Find her on all the usual social media channels or her website.

Sam and Hawk are back in Askala, safe and sound. At least for now. Luca and Mercy, who are still in the Newlands, have found out that its inhabitants plan on attacking Askala in a very near future. They have to get back and warn them, and help keep Askala safe. The only problem is that the Commander holds Luca and Mercy as prisoners, and they're waiting to be executed...

This is book 8 in The Thaw Chronicles and book 4 in Beyond the Thaw. It's the last book that features Sam, Hawk, Mercy and Luca as the main characters - and they hardly receive a moment of rest. They go through so many setbacks that I needed breaks in my reading! I actually felt it was too much damaging impacts for my own, personal taste - I prefer when it's a bit more balanced between positive and negative events - but I'm sure most people will enjoy the non-stop action. This also tells me that the authors have done well in making me invested in these characters! (And I will truly miss them!)

I loved the epilogue, that took place five years later. I enjoyed to get a little piece of what happened to the characters afterwards. I can't really write anymore without spoilers, but if you like dystopian books you shouldn't miss The Thaw Chronicles!

* I received an ARC from the authors and I'm giving my honest review. *

As I have loved this series so far, as soon as I knew this one was due to come out, I was counting the days to when I could read it. The cover once again co-ordinates well with the rest of the series, they must look amazing on a book shelf. I’d also say these covers would make me pick up the books from a bookstore shelf for sure!

This book picks up right where the other one ended really. The war is coming to Askala, to those who have tried to educate Newlanders and Outlanders alike in how to take care of the land they are all living in. How on earth will these peaceful, caring community defend what they have created. If they do not manage to win the forthcoming battle, not only will it be the end of the Askalan community, it will be the end of Askala and all they have created there.
Along with preparing for battle it seems there is a traitor who continues thwart their attempts to create a plan of action for the battle. Whilst this is going on there is still the question about who Luca’s biological parents are. Luca does finally obtain some information, though with everything going on he has to wait until quite late into this book. Though I honestly think by the time he has the information he was so desperate for he has realised that all he ever wanted is already there with him in Askala.

My favourite characters of course are still Luca & Mercy, Hawk & Sam. It has felt like as the reader we have watched them grow up and their relationships turn from friendship to love. It was great to spot their parents character traits within them. We also see some more of Tarquin as she grows up and comes to terms with what the harsh outlands have dealt her.
There is also a new character, Ghost, a strange, silent man who proves himself to be a loner who isn’t afraid to stand up for what he thinks is right. He also turns out to be a strong fighter, but it’s difficult to be certain about whose side he is on!

This book really keeps you on the edge of your seat, with the fate of Askala and its people going well at one moment then looking like all is lost at other times. The possible fate of Askala seems to go up and down like the waves of the cruel, acidic ocean that surrounds it.
I definitely recommend reading this book, in fact the whole series, I really have enjoyed reading it. I think if I had to pick just one scene from within the book to say sums up the message of this book & series, is one that happens between two tough guys of Askala, Hawk and his father Phoenix. This book really explores their relationship and many misunderstandings they had of each other. The realisation of them being so alike is so poignant. I admit to having a tear in my eye as I read the scene play out.

My immediate thoughts upon finishing this book were, Oh wow! What a journey this book takes you on. The great existing bonds between the characters along with the newer bonds being made. It was really sad that a couple of the bravest characters don’t actually make it to the end of the book, as well as some of those characters that do make it to the end being changed forever by what they have been through. I thought it was also great to see the plots in some of the families, kind of going full circle and been revisited and replayed out in the younger generation.

Summing up, Askala and its people have come a long way since the first book, their society suffering both good and bad things but never giving up. In my opinion Askala improves generation after generation into a much fairer society.

The significant part about this series is as each book builds on the others, you feel like your part of this society. You live in askala or adventuring along with the seekers trying to establish peace with outlanders, your in for a real reading adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat as characters change sides and learn new things about themselves. This land is always on the edge of battle as their always someone who thinks they know what best better than those who have been tending the land in Askala. So those who are brave enough to stand for the betterment of the world have to be stronger than the power-hungry. I am excited to see where this goes in the next generation of Asklanias and Outlanders venture out for now in the unity of peace.

I loved the first four books in the series. I continued reading, feeling like the story had extended well past the natural story arc. I think I kept hoping that it would develop some of that spark that was in the first four books. I trudged through 5 through 8. They had their moments, But even though I'd purchased #9 in a bundle, I couldn't bring myself to read it. Didn't trust that it would find any of the spark that was in 1 through 4. I'd highly recommend books 1 through 4. Then I'd encourage walking away from the series.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because five stars are really not enough

“Expose: Beyond the Thaw” is the eight installment in “The Thaw Chronicles” by Tamar Sloan and Heidi Catherine. “Expose” is also the third book in the “Beyond the Thaw” subseries, which is conceived as a follow-up to the original “After the Thaw” series, not so much as a traditional “spin-off” series, but as an organically continuation of the saga. “Beyond the Thaw” explore the lives and decisions of the new Askalan generation in their existential struggle to build a more sustainable and equal society, within the scope of their own possibilities, trying to avoid the mistakes the previous generation made in their pursuit of survival.

Luca, Mercy, Sam, and Hawk are about to face their biggest challenge yet, war is about to ripple Askala, thus they need to come back and defend the pillars of the society they were bred to protect. But after the latest developments the future of both Askala and the Newlands is in danger, with the Outlanders broken into different factions, and Askala fully vulnerable to the threat posed by the Commander. In order to success the four heroes need to unite into a single front to face the danger. Every new installment in this series, achieves against all odds, to surpass any of its predecessors, and I say against all odds, because after reading every book it seem almost impossible to top it, and again Sloan and Catherine has done it once more, and by now I am completely sure that the next installment will be even better, I can’t believe thought, but I know it will 😉. There is so many exceptional moments in this book, impossible to single anyone of them, but if you press me very hard for it…. that description of Polaris is…. just perfect!

As I have already stated “The Thaw Chronicle” series is without any doubt the best dystopian series of the last decade, and “Expose” already proves that the series pass that torch effortlessly into this new decade, not only lining up effortlessly with “The Hunger Games” and “Divergent” but surpassing them with a very carefully crafted world, the right amount of dystopia and social critique, a constantly questioning of the values and drawbacks of the system that allows the reader not only to understand the strengths and flaws of the system but also to find unsettling similarities to our own society. As already stated, “After the Thaw” and “Beyond the Thaw” should not be seen as separate series, they both are part of the “Askala-Verse” and flow into each other flawlessly to offer together an even richer perspective of what “Askala” represents.

Tamar Sloan and Heidi Catherine have created a wonderful dystopian world, foreign yet familiar, beautiful, and terrifying at the same time. Their writing is fluid and nuanced, with a very good editing and a powerful message, very well developed and multifaceted characters, an extraordinary thoroughly built world, action non-stop, an intelligent plot, and very satisfactory developments. Like all its predecessors, this is a fast-paced book, a real page-turner, a great adventure that leaves a lasting impression without disregarding the level of pure entertainment every good story should provide. “Askala” keeps on growing and evolving, with a new perspective in the works “Tournaments of Thaw”, a series that will focus on the Remnants world, and of which a Prequel “Tournaments of Thaw” is already available. Usually fiction equals figure skating, the highest mark is out of grasp for even the best of works, Tamar Sloan and Heidi Catherine have achieve the almost impossible, acquiring 6.0 notes one after another.

Now THAT'S more like it!

Talk about saving the best for last. Literally. I honestly did not see it coming. What a blast this thing was. And yes, I do realize that this book isn't technically the last one of the series, but instead is the last one of this particular teenage generation (the children of the original, now-grown core four from the first four books). I'd imagine the final book in the series will either be distant sequels, further back prequels, or possibly parallel stories altogether. Guess I'll find out soon. Either way, this generation's story is officially over.

After finding the previous three books of this newer generation's chunk of the series quite lackluster, I had little to zero hope this book would be able to woo or wow me. Thank goodness I was wrong. So very wrong. I ended up LOVING this thing. Not only did it bring back to life what I loved the most about the first four books (nail-biting tension), it also managed to FINALLY get me to care about characters and their fates. Given that this is the "final" tale of this generation, stakes are higher. The drama is intensified. Circumstances are harrowing. It's all-out war for the possession of Askala and it seems literally NO ONE is safe. Be careful who you get attached to.

Now I gotta be honest. I may have ended up loving this book, but I'm not oblivious to the fact that the main reason for me to feel that way was the heavier presence of the original core four (Kian, Nova, Dex, and Wren). Given that their children have reunited on Askala for this book's finale, it made sense that their parents (and several of Askala's residents), would play far bigger roles than they've been. And since I love the original core four (namely Wren), it's no surprise that them being around more lured a lot more love outta me. Not quite fair, but hey, it is what it is. I loved those first four books, and I was happy that I could reminisce a little bit as to why while reading this one.

Were there problems with this one? Sure, I had a few minor complaints, but given how much this book did RIGHT (in comparison to the previous three), I had difficulty clinging to where it went wrong. If I had to say anything, though, it was the abrupt arrival of its climax. Some of the circumstances were a bit too difficult to believe and seemingly exaggerated just to hurry up and close out this story. It's also funny to think that the events of these four books were entirely preventable if the Askalans were more careful with their demands of Hawk, Sam, Luca, and Mercy (which is one of the main things I complained about in former reviews). But alas, I suppose if they were more careful, then we wouldn't have had a story.

I'm not sure what more to the expect from the final two entries, but I'm glad to have at least an inkling renewal of hope that they can close this thing out with a bang.

I was given a free copy of this book.

These talented authors are creating an interesting narrative that has various off shoots.

This book is a follow up of the second generation of Askala young adult protagonists who try as chosen seekers to connect with a group of foes outside of their fortified city. This is the second part of this narrative and it ends with a big cliff hanger which I am not spoiling for any readers.

The story pulls you along and in the description of the crumbling city Polaris I can see where the narrative for the off shoot series starting with Exile begins.

Each book can be read as a stand alone and I have not read them in chronological order and that is fine for me, other readers might want to check the order of the books.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

• ᴡᴀʀ • ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ • ᴜʟᴛɪᴍᴀᴛᴜᴍꜱ •

This book had a bit more action which helped me to stay engaged and interested in the plot.

I was glad when certain characters got what they deserved after being such awful people.

I liked how everyone made it back to Askala after being separated for so long. It was nice to see them reunited.

I wasn't keen on Grace's sudden change. One minute she was the villain and the next she decided that she didn't want to take over Askala and kill everyone.

The storyline between Grace and Ghost didn't really make sense to me.

I liked the ending. It was about time everyone had a happy ending.

So good!! Like the other books in the series, I loved this one as well! This is the fourth book that follows Sam, Hawk, Mercy, and Luca. It was fun to watch their character development and a resolution to this part of the Thaw Chronicles. Like its predecessors, this book is full of action, emotion, tragedy, and joy all bundled up in the beauty these authors are known for creating. I love YA dystopian books, but this is one of my favorite series! I finished it in a few hours because I couldn't put it down!

You will feel like one of them

I truly love this series and hate that I have to wait for six months for another dose. This was a very satisfying conclusion to the next generation of characters of their universe. I did find that the pace was slower than previous books until about halfway, but it did allow me to become familiar again with all of them. A great series. Read them all!

Amazing Series by Amazing Authors

Just when I think I've read my favorite book in this series I have to keep taking it back. Tamar and Heidi take this series to yet another whole new level. This book has everything: action, adventure, adversaries, drama, romance, plus scenes that will blow you away and keep you on the edge of your seat. There's tragedy and loss with equal amounts of love and life. It's so good. It's really, really good.

The best ending to the story that I could have ever envisioned! I can’t wait for Tournaments of Thaw to come out July 9th for more background information on the Outlands! These last 8 books have completely taken me by storm. I greatly underestimated these books when I noticed they were available on kindle unlimited, thinking that meant they weren’t going to be very legitimate. They were epic! Going to read Burning book 0.5 now!

Great book

Time is something the Askala inhabitants do not have. Things have changed. The Falcon is reborn and very much needed. Luca and his gang of misfits try to gather information on what is planned by the Outlanders. Nothing is as it seems. The Serkers are separated, and death and destruction await.

This is a very good continuation of the story. People are lost. There is deception and death, but nothing will stop them from saving their home.

Read on my friends.

If this was the end of the series, it has wrapped up nicely. Slant spoiler: someone dies that I feel really didn't have to. I guess I get it, but like, it could have went a different way. And just like with the first set of books, the ending both wraps up the series, yet still sets up a future for more. (And there are more, so one can only assume the next set will be with the newest characters that have been introduced at the end of this book.

An amazing end to such a spectacular series! I loved this so much! There was so much tension, suspense, it was absolutely perfect and I honestly can't think of anything that would make it better. Definitely deserves way more than five stars, this is an absolute masterpiece and I would personally recommend this to anyone interested in a YA dystopian that is remarkably written and engaging.

Again, likeable characters. The children of the characters from After the Thaw, I would think there would be more substance or more realizations. I just felt like they should have stuck with After the Thaw and created something different instead of dragging it out. Not terrible, but did not excite my imagination or mind.

Satisfying finale.

I will finish the series but...

It is all getting a little to repetitious and predictable. The same stories being told just in a new generation.
