Poltergeist Prison: Juvenile Detention

Rate this book
Dying can really cramp a girl's style. It's also a great chance for reflection, if you're into all that. I It's also great for getting back at all those people who bugged you in life. I picked option C, and I'm not sorry. Not a bit. Prankster in life, prankster in death. Unfortunately, there are rules governing the ghost world. Rules I eventually can’t outrun. But the second I’m sent to Poltergeist Prison, I start planning my escape. Though I wouldn't mind sticking around for some of them. Particularly a drool-worthy but egotistic guy named Axl. Good thing we’re both on the same page about getting out of here and getting a little justice on the living. Once we’re free, I’ll be more than happy to help Axl get back at the guy who hurt his bestie, if only to make us even. But when ghosts start disappearing from the detention center — and the explanation from on high doesn’t track — figuring out what the flip is going on becomes priority number one. If we can’t find out where they’re being sent, we might be next. Scroll up and one-click today! Poltergeist Prison is a YA paranormal prison / urban fantasy that, like its predecessors, will contribute to your reading related insomnia. This is a spin off of Blakemore Academy.

E.C. Farrell never met a book she didn’t like. (Just kidding! Though she’s not going to bad-mouth the ones she couldn’t finish, she is still mad about the end of Hunger Games Trilogy - RIP Prim) She likes her characters sassy and her endings surprising. Fluent in sarcasm, she has also studied Krav Maga and could out-burpee you any day of the week. When she's not writing, she often teaches creative writing classes for a local non-profit organization Write Create.

A means to an end after the end

Charlee is an angry ghost seeking in her afterlife what she was denied in life. Her efforts land her in Marley, a juvenile detention center for ghosts dubbed Poltergeist Prison. With her newly adopted pack, she's planning to break out at her first opportunity. But something bigger is going on in Marley, & Charlee may be facing a worse threat in her death than she did in her life.

This YA paranormal is an excellent change of pace from all the cookie cutter paranormal stories on the market. It's written in the same world as Ghost Academy, but is its own story. I did enjoy that Billie and Rafe from Ghost Academy play a significant part here, yet Charlee remains the heroine of the story throughout. The romance of the story is fairly low key but believably done & still totally satisfying!

*Clean romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic

My Rating: 3.25 ⭐️

First of all, a big thank you to the author for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Charlee is a ghost who wants to get back at the people who bothered her before she died. However, her efforts end up getting her a spot in Poltergeist Prison A.K.A Marley. There, she manages to find her own group of friends and meets a guy named Axl, who share a common enemy. They plan to break out of Marley together with their friends. Sounds simple, right? Well - not so.

This was a fun read with revolving around an interesting concept. I would describe the writing style as skippy and has a good balance of seriousness and humour. The writing style was what deemed this a good read for me. I also liked that it touched lightly on suicide and suicide is not seen as selfishness. Some people in our community still think suicide is a selfish act but it is NOT.

However, I would've like more romance in this book, but that is more of a personal preference. Unfortunately, I didn't feel really connected to the characters so perhaps that was what held me back from giving this a higher rating.

In conclusion, this was a decent paranormal YA read and I recommend this to anyone who's into paranormal and some good humour.

Farrell has done it again!

Poltergeist Prison: Juvenile Detention is another fabulous story filled with mystery and conspiracy, and a little bit of romance, too! The characters are well written, perfectly flawed, and beautifully damaged, but with enough strength to overcome their hardships. The plot keeps you guessing and wondering if true justice will be achieved. Though things are wrapped up, there's room for more that leaves the reader eagerly waiting for the next installment. I literally read this in a few hours because I couldn't stop! My only complaint is that I want more romance, but that's a flaw of my own, nothing to do with the author. :)

If you like the paranormal world, I highly recommend E.C. Farrell's unique take on it in this and her other books.

Loving some ghosts 😉👻

OK, so E.C. really changed my mind about ghosts books, starting with Ghost Academy and now Poltergeist Prison, wow!!!... Ghosts are funny and badass!!! 💪👊🙃👻 Love the way this two series interconnect, presenting new amazing characters as Charlee, Axl (well he's not new) and their friends and also our beloved Rafe and Billie, Kaz, the annoying Zelda, in a new adventure full of action, magic, unexpected twists and turns and, of course, lots of ghosts 😁👻 Loved this book, can't wait to see what E.C. will deliver next in this amazing universe!!! 💗

*All of my reviews are voluntarily written*

I've found with this author that her world building and characters are so real that it takes me no time at all to read her books! I am not one to really read ghost stories, but both this and Ghost Academy have changed my mind.

I really liked this book and that fact that some previous characters from Ghost Academy make an appearance and it was nice to see them without them taking over the book.

I can't wait to see what else this author writes this year! I'll be eagerly waiting for new books!

I received the ARC copy of Poltergeist Prison: Juvenile Detention by E.C. Farrell through StoryOrigin. I am voluntarily reviewing this great book. On her first night after being sent to Marley for pulling ghostly pranks Charlee witnesses another ghost being taken and finds out other ghosts have been disappearing too and she, along with new friends, investigate. I loved this book and hope to read more by this writer. This book is available on Amazon

This is a great book, not that I expected anything else from EC Farrell. The characters are strong, likeable, and have fantastic backstories that draw you in. The plot thickens in all the right ways and keeps you hanging on. I loves every moment reading this book and am excited to see more soon!!

Good book with a main character who is not going to let anything stand in her way, but is also willing to listen to reason and change her mind when presented with new in.

Ghost books are such a fun concept, and one about baddie ghosts? Sign me up. This was a great read with fun characters, and jerk ones as well. I’d recommend it.
