A mystery series with a little bit of magic and a whole lot of heart…

Angie is a talented young sculptor struggling to eke out a living and solve her parents’ cold case murders. A special request pitches her into the world of post-mortem cosmetic reconstruction, where she is shocked to discover she has a magical gift.

This newfound ability helps her unravel the first big clue in a local high-profile murder case and leads her down a road where the telenovela tropes she and her abuela are addicted to can be all too real, and with dangerous consequences. Things rarely go as planned for Angie, especially with Lieutenant Brian Mahoney on her case.

A little bit about me: I was born in Zaragoza, Spain, though my parents are from the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, I've moved more than twenty times. I went to school in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Puerto Rico and I'm bilingual and bicultural. I've spent the last thirteen years raising my fun, inspiring boys while working from home. My greatest joys are spending time with family and close friends and coming up with characters and interesting situations.

I'd love to hear from you! Please email me at ines.saint@gmail.com.

I was totally enthralled by this absorbing mystery. The author's humorous writing style and the characters are entertaining, from Angie's Abuela Luci to Pappa the mortician. Apart from making a living as a sculpturer, Angie's burning quest is to discover the truth behind the double murder of her parents. Whilst this novel doesn't bring her the answers she desperately needs, Angie does inadvertently discover that she is able to hear the very last words spoken by a corpse. This leads to the discovery of the truth about the death of the mayor, which gets her into a load of trouble. This book is well-written, fast-paced, entertaining, and witty. It is also a standalone and comes to a surprising close. I received a copy of this mystery as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This first book of the Angie Gomez Gomez series tells a complete story but leaves us with loose threads leading to the next mystery in the series and to Angie's potential love life.

This is a light hearted murder mystery novella. Angie Gomez Gomez gets a little testy if you ask her why the Gomez is repeated. This is so because she honors both her father and mother's last names, which she doesn't like explaining and defending constantly. Both parents' names were Gomez, but the families were unrelated prior to marriage.

Right off the bat, Angie has her figurative detective hat on as she tries again to coax information about her parents' double murder from the local Sheriff's department. There is a new lieutenant in town and his name is Brian. There's some inadvertent flirting going on and Brian is at least somewhat sympathetic to Angie's cause. It's not hard to guess that the parents' murders will be an ongoing quest for Angie and that Brian will be a familiar character.

Before much headway can be made in the one case, a new one appears and Angie falls into it almost by accident. The funeral home handling the victim's body asks for Angie's help in a facial reconstruction because of her experience making a sculpture of the victim, the late Mayor. While examining the mayor, Angie makes a shocking discovery about herself - she can hear the last words of dead people. Because of the shock, Angie can't hide her secret from the mortician, Pappa, and his partner grandson, Anthony. A team is formed. And could there be another potential suitor for Angie in Anthony?

For a relatively short story, there are a lot of clues and the pace is fast. Despite the murder, there's still a lot of fun and humor as silly embarrassing situations occur that require explanations. Angie is surprisingly adept at producing them.

Angie has Spanish and Puerto Rican roots and they run deep. Her family is a huge support group for her. Angie and her Abuela love telenovelas and you can't help but catch some of that flavor in this story.

Mature themes: as in past stories by Saint, this one is fairly clean. There hasn't been a chance for any sexual interaction yet, other than a kiss. There's the obvious murders and the danger that comes from confronting suspects. There's no offensive language.

Last words are just the beginning

Angie Gomez Gomez is a sculpture artist who comes from a mixed family one half magical the other half logical. An odd series of events start when she goes to see the new police lieutenant to try and get information about the deaths of her parents twelve years ago. When the mayor is killed Angie is asked by the funeral home to use her artist skills and the fact that she did a recent bust of the mayor to help prepare her for her funeral viewing. When Angie hears the mayor’s last words it lead her and her two new friends from the funeral parlor Anthony and Pappa along with a zealous journalist Nalissa to try and find the truth behind the last words.
A rather unique talent that Angie acquires and makes for an interesting setting. I like her heart and her determination. Anthony and Pappa are excellent sidekicks, and Abuela Luci is a real hoot. I enjoyed the investigating but the ending while surprising is a bit abrupt. The killer wasn’t even on the radar then boom in the last few pages they appear. It’s a good resolution it’s just completely out of left field. Good world building, fun and quirky characters, good mystery just didn’t stick the ending completely.

Angie Gomez Gomez is a sculptor who is called in to help at a mortuary with a facial reconstruction of a person that she recently did a bust of. She believes that her grandmother believes that they have magic in their family but she uses science to explain it away until she discovers she happens to have a magical gift as well. This gift takes her down a rabbit hole of an investigation and many crazy situations.
I found this book to be hilarious and enjoyed reading it. I did not want to put it down. I have already put the second book on my books to read list. Angie is a pretty likeable character. The writer was pretty good in describing people that you want to smack on of the condescending characters (when you read the book you will know immediately who it is) because he is just that unlikeable.

Short and cute, this is a forthy mystery about murder and a case of mistaken identity. Angie is a sculptor, barely making ends meet. Still devastated by the unsolved murders of her parents, she routinely visits the police station. A NewLieutenant sparks some mutual attraction. But when the mayor is murdered Angie is pressed into doing facial reconstruction on the corpse. Itis that experience that makes her aware of her own psychic gift. reluctantly joining forces with a relentless reporter and backed up by her funeral home buddies and psychic grandma, Angie is determined to crack the case.

This is a fun story with a likeable protagonist. The cast is large and a bit unwieldy. More humorous than suspenseful it is light entertainment. There is a small Spanish glossary in the front but the language used is fairly basic. Cute, clever romp.

I received a review copy for free and this is my honest opinion. This is a delightful and new twist on the normal psychic/paranormal cozy mystery. Our heroine here hears the last words of a deceased person and that makes for an interesting twist. The characters here are relatable and interesting with the added bonus of being involved in mortuary science. I must admit that I was a tiny bit disappointed that there seems to be a romantic relationship developing between our heroine and the police detective. As one review commented, it has been done to death; but I so enjoyed the developing relationships between Angie, Anthony, and Pappa that I can overlook it. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
