होता तो यह है कि बच्चे जब बड़े हो जाते है तो उनके माँ-बाप उनकी शादी कराते हैं लेकिन इस कहानी में थोड़ा-सा उल्टा है, या यूँ कह लीजिए कि पूरी कहानी ही उल्टी है। राघव अवस्थी के मन में एक बार एक उड़ता हुआ ख़याल आया कि अपनी सिंगल मम्मी के लिए एक बढ़िया-सा टिकाऊ बॉयफ्रेंड या पति खोजा जाए। राघव को यह काम जितना आसान लग रहा था, असल में वह उतना ही मुश्किल निकला। इब्नेबतूती आज की कहानी होते हुए भी एक खोए हुए, ठहरे हुए समय की कहानी है। एक लापता हुए रिश्ते की कहानी है। कुछ सुंदर शब्द कभी किसी शब्दकोश में जगह नहीं बना पाते। कुछ सुंदर लोग किसी कहानी का हिस्सा नहीं हो पाते। कुछ बातें किसी जगह दर्ज नहीं हो पातीं। कुछ रास्ते मंज़िल नहीं हो पाते। इब्नेबतूती-उन सभी अधूरी चीज़ों, चिट्ठियों, बातों, मुलाक़ातों, भावनाओं, विचारों, लोगों की कहानी है।

Divya Prakash Dubey is India’s first of now many ‘Hinglish’ writers, An Engineer and a MBA by education, a former-AGM, Marketing in a telecom company and now a content editor in leading TV Channel, the combination has been unseen in the world of writing on many levels. But that is what he is, a break from the existing moulds of factory made pieces coming in the market.

In a Nutshell: An easy-going story about a young man who wishes to see his widowed mother in a happy relationship before he moves abroad for further studies. One of the few Hindi books about contemporary India that balances culture and modernity well. I enjoyed it a lot.

Story Synopsis:

Raghav Awasthi has won the scholarship to go to Stanford for his degree in Data Science. But just a couple of months before his departure, his mom Shaalu is hospitalised due to stress-related issues. Raghav and his girlfriend Nisha decide that Shaalu might be better off if she gets remarried. Thus begins their secret plan of finding a new husband for Shaalu. Crazy, right? Now add in the complication that Shaalu has a secret in her past that no one knew about, until Nisha stumbles across it.
The book is written in a dual timeline, in a limited third person narration.

Let me first clarify for my Western friends here: This book is just for Indian readers. Its values and its core are essentially Indian, and you might find it either quaint or strange. But only an Indian will be able to appreciate the transformation in thinking that is depicted by the book. Good for you that there’s no English translation available yet. 😉

Now let me get to my Indian friends.

If you have read classic Hindi literature by the likes of Premchand and Dinkar, you might have noticed its richness but at the same time, discerned how outdated the content is when juxtaposed with today’s India. If you have read contemporary Hindi novels, you might have observed that many are like Bollywood movie scripts, with exaggerated emotions and over-the-top situations.

Ibnebatuti is a book that falls in none of the above categories. It has the right balance of our traditions and our modernity, without going in too many stereotypes. (Some stereotypes are obviously there. One can't really escape stereotypes in Hindi fiction; the genre still has a long way to go.) That said, there were also enough new themes for me to enjoy the book without fixating on the formulaic content.

Just in case you are wondering about the title, the word ‘Ibnebatuti’ doesn’t mean anything. It is a funny derivation of Ibn Battuta, the name of the 14th century Moroccan explorer who travelled through Eurasia over thirty years and documented his experiences. One of the characters calls another by the distorted variation. Who and why – you need to read and find out.

Here are some things that struck me as wonderful about this story:
🌷 The depiction of Shaalu – a modern single mom, who doesn’t shy away from hitting out at those men who hit on her, who accepts her son’s girlfriend without fuss and even has bonding times with her without her son trudging along, who doesn’t spoil her son rotten but calls him out when he is wrong, who stayed single for her son and yet is not averse to ‘dating’ now that it has been suggested. There were so many ways in which Shaalu shatters the clichéd portrayal of Indian moms in our literature and movies. I loved her character.

🌷 Raghav is a more complicated character, but yet realistic. He is an expert in emotionally blackmailing his mom into agreeing to his ideas, as most children are. But his feelings come across as genuine concern rather than spoilt stubbornness. I also appreciated how he didn’t shy away from showing or asking for physical affection from his mother in the form of hugs or patting on the head or smoothing his hair.

🌷 The bond between Shaalu and Raghav is a treat. Their love for each other comes not only in the form of caring remarks but also funny repartees. The serious topic of the book is given a lighthearted counterbalance through their witty banter.

🌷 The book doesn’t introduce too many needless characters, just to make this a family-oriented story. Shaalu, Raghav and Nisha are the central trio in the contemporary timeline, and two characters being dominant in the flashbacks.

🌷 The book also covers, to a certain extent, the protests against the decisions of the Mandal Commision in 1990. This is a topic rarely explored in contemporary fiction, despite its political and social significance in India. It was a pleasant surprise to see it included here, and also handled mostly well.

🌷 There are quite a few thought-worthy quotes in the book. While I wasn’t a fan of how these thoughts were presented (with the writing breaking the fourth wall and slipping into omniscient narration), they were still good. The lines connected to motherhood were touching.

🌷 The book represents the era and the Lucknowi culture and cuisine nicely without forcing it into the plot.


On the flip side:
😥 It did hurt to see that the historical timeline was set in the 1990s. Ouch – I feel old!!

😥 I hate the cover. It doesn’t represent the story well.


All in all, I enjoyed this story that depicts contemporary semi-urban India so well with its objective portrayal of the modern Indian outlook integrated with the traditional Indian thinking. The writing isn’t Booker-worthy, so don’t go looking for lyrical prose. It is a simple and wholesome story, delivered without going over the top.

This was my first book by this author, and I am definitely going to read more of his works.

If you have Storytel, you can hear the audiobook narrated by the author himself, and he does a wonderful job. A rare example of an author clicking as a narrator without making me doze off.

हिन्दी किताब के लिए हिन्दी में दो शब्द लिखना तो बनता है. बस इतना समझीये कि किताब बिलकुल हिंदी फिल्म जैसी है। मगर हम अगर किताबों की तुलना फिल्मों से करें से गलत बात है। किताब को किताब के नजरिए से ही देखना चाहिए। और इस किताब ने अपने प्यारे किरदार और मॉडर्न प्लॉट से मुझे तो बहुत मज़ा आ गया। अब भले ही कहानी फिल्मी हो, दिल खुश, तो पाठक खुश।

I really enjoyed this book especially the narration by the author himself. It felt so good to listen to a story in a familiar language, with a setting and experiences that are also so familiar. It felt like reading about people I know quite well.

The very special relationship between a son and his mother, who is the only parent he has known from a very young age, was very relatable. I loved the way they cared for each other while being friendly and bantering all the time.

Raghav is on the threshold of going abroad for future studies and the thought of his mother Shalu all alone worries him though she insists that she is completely fine. As they busy themselves in preparing for his travel and try not to think of being apart,Raghav thinks it would be nice for his mother to have a companion, a friend who will be there for her and he should be the one to find such a person.
We get to see Shalu's past through glimpses of her college life and letters written to her.

Shalu's firebrand persona and Raghav's endearing one were very well matched.

The references to advertisements, movies and college culture of the 90s made me very nostalgic and I definitely wanted to eat all the delicious Lucknow food!

I found the tone of the story progressive and positive. It felt good to read an Indian story that was so natural and appealing and also modern. The language was very pleasing and there were so many lines worth highlighting. Very relevant too to our current world.

फिर से कहूंगा कि ... जो मोहब्बत मुकम्मल नहीं होती वह किताबों में मुमकिन होती।

दुबे जी आशावादी हैं की नहीं कह नहीं सकता पर उनकी लिखाई हमे आशा जरूर देती है, वह आशा की चाह रखने प्रेरित करती है जो शायद कभी जिंदगी में मुकम्मल न हो।

आगे बढ़ चुके लोग कभी वापस मुड़के नहीं देखते पर ये भी हो की ऐसी मोहब्बत हो की भुलाया भी न जा सके।

वैसी मोहब्बत करके तो देखो मेरे दोस्त।

गर बाज़ी इश्क की बाज़ी है जो चाहो लगा दो डर कैसा।

कहीं पढ़ा था कि सरल लिखना सबसे कठिन होता है मुझे नहीं मालूम कि इस तरह से लिखना दुबे जी के लिए कितना कठिन या सरल है पर इस सरलता पर पाठक उस से ना जुड़ना सबसे कठिन होता है | इस किताब में अंत में क्या होगा सबको अंदाजा रहेगा पर फिर भी इत्ती जोड़ती है ये किताब के पाठक को एहसास होता है कि आप खुद एक किरदार हो और ये इस किताब की सबसे बड़ी खासियत है |

हर बार के जैसे बहुत ही सरल लिखा है। दो दो कहानियों का पिक्चराइजेशन कहीं भी टूटने नहीं दिया। सच में आपने अपनी पांचवी किताब को पहली किताब जितनी ही बेफ़िक्री से लिखा है। सामयिक घटनाओं का चित्रण भी पूरी तैयारी से किया है।

मुसाफ़िर कैफ़े और अक्टूबर जंक्शन पढ़ने के बाद ये तय हो गया कि इब्नेबतूती भी अंत तक पहुंचते पहुंचते आंखों में नमी तो भर ही देगी। वही हुआ, दिल फफक पड़ा और आंखें भीग गयीं। कुछ एहसास बस हमारे अपने होते हैं, आंसू बन कर आंखों से ढुलक जाते हैं। उन्हें समझा पाना या लिख देना यूं सरल होता तो हर कोई दिव्य प्रकाश दुबे हो जाता।
दुबे जी हमेशा ही किरदार ऐसे गढ़ते हैं कि सांस रोक कर पढ़ने जैसी स्थिति हो जाती है। कहने का मतलब ये है कि ऐसा लगता है कि सांस पूरी होते-होते ही पूरी किताब पढ़ डालो। उनकी हर किताब को पढ़ते हुए आंखों के सामने चित्र घूमने लग जाते हैं और सब कुछ किसी चल चित्र सा हो जाता है। अगर किसी किताब को पढ़ने के साथ आप जीने लग जाएं तो वो लेखक किसी जादूगर से कम नहीं है।
इब्नेबतूती के रूप में एक और जादू दिव्य प्रकाश ने हमारे सामने प्रस्तुत कर दिया।

To teach Helen Keller the word “water”, her teacher put her hand under a flowing tap. Keller felt the water and then her teacher spelt it w-a-t-e-r on her palm.
Divya Prakash Dubey’s books too are felt directly by the heart and then you pause and figure out the literal meaning. Even when I have not understood his intent completely, I have felt strangely elated. All his 3 novels were fantastic. Philosophical yet feathery light.
I have read a few by Chetan Bhagat and one by Durjoy Dutta. They dont hold a candle to Divya Prakash Dubey.

कहानी की शुरुआत में हम कहानी से जितना अनजान होते हैं वही कहानी के अंत तक पहुंचते-पहुंचते हम कहानी को जीने लगते हैं।

कहानी मां बेटे के सुंदर रिश्ते से शुरू होती है। जो कि राघव और शालू अवस्थी है। जिनके इर्द-गिर्द पूरी कहानी घूमती है।

कहानी 2 भागों में चलती है जहां भूतकाल में एक 20 साल की शालू अवस्थी की कहानी और दूसरी और वर्तमान समय में 40 वर्षीय शालू अवस्थी की कहानी है। जो अपने जीवन में कई संघर्षों का सामना करती है।

एक स्त्री अपने परिवार की खुशियों के लिए अपनी खुशियां नजरअंदाज करती है।हमारी मां जो कि कभी 20 साल की होगी कितनी खूबसूरत होगी । लेखक की वजह से हमें वह पल महसूस करने को मिला। हमारी मां के बारे में जानने को मिला ‌।

यह उपन्यास वात्सल्य व ममत्व से भरा हुआ है। साथ ही पूर्ण कहानी भावनात्मक भी है।

कहानी का शीर्षक इब्नेबतूती बहुत ही जिज्ञासा पूर्ण है जो पाठक के मन में शुरुआत से जिज्ञासा जागृत करता है । कहानी की हर सुंदर वस्तु के लिए इब्नेबतूती कहना उचित है । साथ ही कहानी का कवर मेरा सभी पुस्तकों में सबसे पसंदीदा है ।

A really beautiful Story of the bond a son and his mother shares, along with that it is also a story of a lady who is now known by the love and care she gives, to that of a girl who had her own individuality, her passions, her ambitions...

It is us who read the book, who are to question themselves have we really cared ever, to know what our parents were in their younger days..
And again there are things.. that a parent as a parent will probably never be able to tell their kids..

I am a person, who never marks the lines in the book, and i maintained the same rule here too, BUT, it took a lot of restraint because a lot many beautiful lines are there... and it was seriously hard to not mark them, will probably make up for it by reading this book again and again...

All the Characters of the story are written really well, the story doesn't loses it's charm even for a page... A Book with a fresh storyline keeps you entertained and at the same time asks some really valid questions...

The Language used is very simple, and the book is not lengthy so you can easily read in one sitting...

My most favourite part of the story is the lovely mother-son relationship, probably because i have somewhat same relationship with my mother... and when you start relating your real life with that of a fiction that tells you a lot about the impact..

In one Line to sum it all up... I LOVED THE BOOK.

I have read the Previous 4 Books by the author and so was highly excited to read this as soon as possible, and that too with really high expectations and i got to read an amazing book...

Also,I should mention here that reading in Hindi is always an Incomparable Joy...

All my love to the author for writing this beautiful book, and now i will be waiting patiently for the next book...

Highly, Highly recommended to all of you who can read and understand Hindi..

यह किताब बुक स्टॉल पर गलती से दिख गई थी. नाम बड़ा अलग लगा तो उठा कर घर ले आया. पढ़ने बैठा तो पन्ने पलटते पलटते घंटे कैसे निकल गए पता ही नहीं चला. सरल, सुंदर, हृदयस्पर्शी. भावनाओं का सचित्र वर्णन करना दिव्य जी की बड़ी विशेषता है. कुमार आलोक की आखिरी चिट्ठी मेरी अब तक की पढ़ी हुई सबसे खूबसूरत लेखनों में से एक है. शालू का किरदार लंबे समय तक मुझे याद रहेगा.

'इब्नेबतूती' पढ़ते वक्त ना तो आप ज़ोर से ठहाका लगाएंगे, ना ही फफककर रो ही पड़ेंगे। बल्कि हमेशा आपके अधरों पर एक मुस्कान बनी रहेगी और रह-रहकर एकाध आंँसू, चुपके से, गालों पर ढुलक जाएगा। यही विशेषता है इस उपन्यास की।
जीवन अतिशयोक्तियों में नहीं, मध्यताओं में बस���ा है।
'इब्नेबतूती' जीवन के इतने करीब है कि इससे अछूते आप रह ही नहीं पाते। उपन्यास पढ़ते हुए कहीं-कहीं आप बस क़िताब को अपने सीने पर रख, आंँखें बंद कर, उन सारे पलों को फिर से जी जाते हैं, जो हम सब ने पहले गुज़ारे तो हैं पर हड़बड़ी में उन्हें जी नहीं पाए।
ऐसे ही अनगिनत पलों का एक गुलदस्ता है 'इब्नेबतूती'।

दुबे जी के लेखन की सबसे बड़ी विशेषता यही है उनकी कहानियांँ सिर्फ़ कहानी के पात्रों की नहीं होतीं। मेरी, आपकी, हम सबकी होती हैं। और शायद इसीलिए इतने बड़े पैमाने पर वह पढ़े जाते हैं।
हम अक्सर अपनी ही ज़िंदगी में इतने केंद्रित रह जाते ह��ं कि हमें महसूस भी नहीं होता कि हमारे मांँ-बाबा की भी अपनी ज़िंदगी है। जैसे दुबे जी 'इब्नेबतूती' में कहते भी हैं:

मेरे ख़्याल से मां-बाबा दो जीवन जीते हैं। एक हम से पहले का और एक हमारे बाद का। उनकी इच्छाऐं, खुशियांँ, वक्त सब हम पर ही आकर ठहर जाते हैं। दुबे जी हमें उनके अनकहे जीवन का हिस्सा बनाते हैं।
कहानी एक मांँ की है, एक लड़की की है। कहानी मांँ के प्रेम की है, एक लड़की के प्रेम की है और सिर्फ़ प्रेम की भी। ('प्रेम' के साथ सिर्फ़ लगाने, वैसे ग़लत लग रहा है।
शालू अवस्थी एक सरकारी अफसर हैं, कृषि विभाग में। कई वर्षों से एकल माँ(सिंगल मॉम) हैं। उनका जीवन उनके इकलौते बेटे, राघव में बसता है।
राघव अवस्थी का पढ़ाई के लिए जब अमेरिका जाना तय हो जाता है, तो खुश होने के साथ-साथ वह परेशान भी हो उठता है कि उसकी मांँ अब अकेले कैसे रह पाएंगीं।
उनके लिए किसी खास दोस्त की तलाश में राघव को अपनी मांँ के अतीत के उस जीवन का भी पता चलता है जो उससे अनछुआ है। उसकी मुलाकात होती है, 20 वर्ष की, बिंदास बेधड़क, ज़िंदादिल शालू अवस्थी से। काला कुर्ता और जींस में थिएटर और नुक्कड़ नाटक करने वाली, एक दूसरी ही शालू अवस्थी से।
कहानी दो समय-धाराओं में चलती है। एक धारा में राघव और शालू, राघव के अमेरिका जाने की तैयारी में लगे हैं। दूसरी धारा, जहां अपनी कॉलेज लाइफ की 'हीरोइन' है।
अक्सर जो लड़कियां समाज के कढ़े-बुने ढ़र्रों और ख़ाकों में फिट नहीं होतीं, उन्हें समाज 'हीरोइन' कह देता है। सुना ही होगा आपने - "बड़ी हीरोइन समझती है खुद को"। बाकी आप कहानी पड़ेंगे तो समझ ही जाएंगे।

"कुछ शब्द ऐसे होते हैं जिनको सहेजने वाले इस दुनिया में बस दो लोग होते हैं।"
इस पंक्ति से दिव्य जी ने कहानी शुरू की। इसके मायने चाहे कहानी के हिसाब से अलग हैं, लेकिन यह लिखते हुए मैंने महसूस किया कि वह दो लोग लेखक और पाठक भी हैं। हरेक पाठक एक ही कहानी के शब्दों का एक सा मतलब नहीं निकाल पाता। सबके लिए वो कहानी अपनी सी बन जाती है लेकिन एक अलग ढंग से। मैंने भी इस कहानी के पात्रों में खुद को ढूंढना चाहा और पा भी लिया, लेकिन किसी एक किरदार में नहीं बल्कि हरेक में मैंने खुद को थोड़ा थोड़ा पाया। यही तो खासियत है दिव्य जी की। किरदारों को गढ़ने में माहिर हैं वो। बिलकुल अलग सी कहानी है कुछ अन्जाने, कुछ अपने, कुछ बिखरे और कुछ संवर रहे रिश्तों की।
"ज़माने से आगे तो बढ़िए 'मजाज़'
ज़माने को आगे बढ़ाना भी है।"
दिव्य जी ने क्या खूब inspiration ली है 'मजाज़' साहब की इन पंक्तियों से, और हमें इतनी बढ़िया कहानी पढ़ने का मौका मिल गया। सच में अब ज़माने को आगे बढ़ाने का वक्त है। हम हर काम में digital हो गए हैं कयोंकि हमें मालूम है कि ऐसे ही advance हुआ जा सकता है। पर हम अपनी सोच को कब advance करेंगे? क्यों हमें ऐसा लगता है कि हमारे parents and grandparents पैदा ही बड़े हुए थे? हम क्यों नहीं समझ पाते कि वो भी कभी बच्चे थे और फिर जवान भी रहे? क्यों हम समझ नहीं पाते कि उनका भी कोई past हो सकता है जिसको उन्हें अपने परिवार की खातिर past ही रखना पड़ा, कभी present बनाने का सोचा भी नहीं? अगर ये इतनी सी बात हम समझ गए तो हमारी सोच को advance होने से कोई नहीं रोक सकता। ज़माने को आगे बढ़ाने के लिए किसी और revolution से पहले सोच में revolution आना ज़रूरी है।
बहुत उम्दा कहानी लिखी दिव्य जी ने और हमें सोचने पर मजबूर कर दिया। किताब मुझे इतनी पसंद आई कि यह लिखने से पहले मैंने दिव्य जी की 'अक्तूबर जंक्शन' आर्डर कर दी। Thank you so much Divya Prakash Dubey ji for this wonderful story.

किताब में एक क्वॉट है:
"कई बार कहानी वहाँ से शुरू नहीं होती जहाँ किरदार आज रहते हैं, बल्कि वहाँ से शुरू होती है जिस शहर को किरदार ने बहुत पहले छोड़ दिया था। हर किसी के पास किसी-न-किसी एक शहर से नफ़रत और प्यार करने की कोई- न कोई अदना-सी वजह होती ही है।"

इब्नेबतुती भी वैसी ही एक कहानी है।

ये कहानी है राघव और उसके मां की जो लखनऊ में रहते हैं। राघव की गर्लफ्रेंड, निशा, भी कहानी का अहम हिस्सा है। राघव को पढ़ाई के लिए अमेरिका जाना है और वो अपनी मां को अकेला नहीं छोड़ना चाहता। इसलिए निशा के साथ साथ वो कोशिश करता की मां को एक अच्छा सा ब्वॉयफ्रेंड मिल जाए।

हम अक्सर अपनी माँ के पिछले जीवन में नहीं जाते, उस जीवन में जब वो हमारी मां नहीं थी, जब उसने शादी नहीं की थी। इब्नेबतुती इस विषय को बहुत ही बैलेंस वे में टच करती है।

एक वर्किंग मदर का पोर्ट्रेयल, जो स्ट्रॉन्ग है पर निस्वार्थ भी, वह मां जो बहुत आधुनिक नहीं है, पर पैट्रियार्ची के छांव में भी नहीं... हिंदी लिटरेचर में एक फ्रेश पर्सपेक्टिव है। ऐसी माँ ही अब कहानियों में होनी चाहिए।

चूंकि कहानी लखनवी है, कई जगह डायलॉग में लखनवी टच भी है। ये कहानी को काफी रियलिस्टिक बनाता है। भाषा सरल है, और जहाँ जरूरत होती है, अंग्रेजी शब्द भी हैं।

यह उस भारत की कहानी है, जो पूरी तरह से पश्चिमी नहीं है, लेकिन पारंपरिक बंधनों से बाहर निकल रहा है। मां बेटे के बीच की नोकझोंक, लखनऊ की गलियां, कॉलेज लाईफ... सब जीवंत हो उठती हैं।

इब्नेबतुती बिल्कुल लेखक की बाकी किताबों जैसी है: कूल और दिल को छूने वाली।

A really beautiful Story of the bond a son and his mother shares. All the Characters of the story are written really well, the story doesn't loses it's charm even for a page...

A Book with a fresh storyline keeps you entertained and at the same time asks some really valid questions...

सर, यह पुस्तक लिखने के लिए आपको अनेक अनेक ध्नयव्याद. आपकी कहानियों में इतनी सादगी होती हैं की क्या बताउ. बस ऐसा लगता है की धीरे धीरे पढ़ते जाओ और कभी समाप्ति ना हो. सर आप सच में बहुत अच्छा लिखते हैं. आप बस यू ही लिखते रहिए और मुस्कुराते रहिए. आपकी किताब यार पापा भी बहुत अच्छी लगी. बहुत मज़ा आया.

"इब्नेबतूती" वैसे तो इस नाम का कोई मतलब नहीं है पर अक्सर होता है ना हमारे जीवन में कुछ ऐसी बातें, शब्द व चीज होती हैं जिनका कोई मतलब ना होते हुए भी उनकी अहमियत बहुत ज्यादा होती है इसी प्रकार यह शब्द भी है।

दुबे जी के लेखन की सबसे बड़ी विशेषता यही है उनकी कहानियांँ सिर्फ़ कहानी के पात्रों की नहीं होतीं। मेरी, आपकी, हम सबकी होती हैं।

कहानी के सभी चरित्र, राघव, शालू, आलोक, निशा, वास्तव में अच्छी तरह से लिखे गए हैं, कहानी एक पृष्ठ के लिए भी आकर्षण नहीं खोती है.

उपयोग की जाने वाली भाषा बहुत सरल है. कहानी का मेरा सबसे पसंदीदा हिस्सा माँ-बेटा का रिश्ता है दिव्य प्रकाश दुबे जी द्वारा लिखी गई किताबो के बारे में ज्यादा कुछ कहने की जरूरत नही रहती है .... क्योंकि वो शुरू से ही पाठक को अंत तक बांधे रखते है । जिससे हम उस कहानी से जुड़े रहते है । शानदार लेखन ।

This is the first Hindi novel I ever read. And honestly I was dumbstruck. This book depicts a very appealing and lovely relationship between a single mother (whose husband died long ago) and his son.

This book tells a simple story between a single modern mother Shaalu, who lives with his son Raghav. Shaalu is an IAS officer and Raghav is a student who recently got a chance to study data science abroad. But just a few weeks before the departure of Raghav, his mother falls ill due to stress and overloading from work. Due to this Raghav and his girlfriend Nisha get worried about the issue of how his mother will manage things after he goes abroad. Then Raghav thought of an idea, what if his mother gets married !! sounds crazy that in Indian society someone will get married after already one marriage. With this mission Raghav and Nisha go on a quest of searching for a husband (Shaalu’s college friend) to her mother.

Story mainly revolves around Raghav, Shaalu and Nisha. Character description of them is very simple and brilliant. Language of this book is very simple to read and understand. This story reveals how the caste system is still loitering our society. Like the story, the title of the book is very interesting and readers will find out after reading. Everyone should give this book at least one try.

I wish I could read this book all over again for the first time, Easy to read you can say, a beginner friendly hindi book , yet so not easy to go through the pain. I looooveee the characters , More powers to the mothers like Shalu and everyone of them bcz sabki apni apni kahani hein, maa bhi ek ladki thii.

Storyline: So basically story is about Raghav's mother Shalu, but initially story starts with Raghav Awasthi winning the scholarship to go to Stanford for his degree in Data Science, but just a couple of months before his departure, his mother Shaalu got hospitalised due to stress-related issues and stuff. Raghav and his girlfriend Nisha decides that Shaalu might be better off if she gets remarried. Thus begins their plan of finding a new husband for Shaalu. Now add to the complication Shaalu has a secret from past that no one knew about, until Nisha stumbles across things she wasn't supposed to, but what went after?! Love, betrayal, pain everything is there. This is written in a dual timeline.

There are books that entertain you, and then there are books that remind you to pause and feel and think , Ibnebatuti is one of those rare reads that makes you look beyond the surface.

For me, this book isn’t just a story; it’s a mirror. It reminds us that it’s never okay to judge someone just by what we see from the outside. Everyone carries a world of their own scars, dreams, regrets, and memories that we may never understand until we listen.

While reading ibnebatuti, I found myself constantly thinking of my mother — her life, her choices, the things she said that I now hear differently. I revisited her stories through the pages of this book, and it made me realize how little we often know about the lives that shaped the people who raised us.

The ending stayed with me long after I closed the book. Especially that last question — it wasn’t just tough, it was hauntingly beautiful. It forced me to look inward, to ask myself what love truly means. I don't know yet the answer for me , thanks to the author for differently asking the questions.

And here’s what I believe, even after everything I’ve faced: love is love. It finds its way back, always — to those who know how to love, how to forgive, and how to feel deeply.

To the mothers who were once teenagers with dreams.
To the daughters and sons who are now beginning to understand them.
And to everyone who still believes in the power of love and second chances.

A solid ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me.

This book beautifully assays the underexpressed emotions , hidden anxieties , adeptly displayed ego defence mechanisms , hurries, worries , fears of a single mother who is caught between ever fading memories of a long lost love and her responsibilities towards her adorable son . How despite her best attempt at psychological maneuvering .. the son not only understands her need for companionship but also leaves no stone unturned in helping her meet her love ! A bful story written in extremely simple language yet stirs you to the core . Leaves you thinking ‘!
Some lines which got me thinking :

1.वैसे भी शहर बड़ा हो या छोटा .अमीर लोग शहर के एक कोने में रेहते हैं ...
२.माएँ मजबूतहोती नही हैं , बच्चों के सामने मजबूत होने का नाटक करती हैं .और नाटक करते करते सही में एक दिन मजबूत हो जाती हैं !!
३.ज़िंदगी जब जी भर रोने के मौक़े देती है तो सोने के मौक़े छीन लेती है
४.जीना, एक नई ज़िंदगी की तलाश भर तो है
५.रोज़ तय की जाने वाली दूरी भी किसी किसी दिन लम्बी लगने लगती है
६.सब कुछ खोने के बाद हमारा जो हिस्सा बचा रहता है असल में हम उतना ही होते हैं . बाक़ी सब तो बाद शो ऑफ़ है ।।

नई वाली हिंदी और नए लेखकों से भय के बावजूद पीडीएफ वर्शन शुरू किया। कहानी अच्छी लगी; प्यारी सी कहानी है। 'quoteली*' भाषा है, ठीक है, मधुर है, गालियाँ नहीं ठूसी गई हैं। नए लेखक लोग तो इस बात के साथ गालियाँ ठूस देते हैं कि पात्र का जीभ गाली वाला संवाद मांग रहा है।

शहरी, वेल educated, upper-मिडिल क्लास के वर्किंग माँ और बेटे की कहानी है। बेटा जब छोटा था तभी पिताजी गुज़र गए। अब बेटा विदेश जा रहा है तो चाह रहा है कि जाने से पहले माँ की कहीं शादी कराकर उन्हें सेटल कर दे। फ़्लैश बैक में माँ के कॉलेज के दिन और उस वक्त मंडल आयोग की आग में जल रहे देश और इस वजह से बदलते परिदृश्य और बदलते रिश्तों की बात है।

स्टोरी ओपन एन्ड वाली है; ऐसी ओपन एंडिंग स्टोरीज मुझे अच्छी लगती है।

जो चीज़ पसंद नहीं आई :- अंत में लेखक का गुरु /मठाधीश बनने का मोह !! प्रवचनात्मक प्रश्न !! भाई साब, पाठक को छोड़ दीजिये अपने तरीके से सवाल-जवाब करने के लिए।

और हाँ, एन्ड की तरफ थोड़ा सा unrealistic सा हो गया है। खैर, कहानियाँ ऐसे ही बुनी जाती हैं।
