“But how can this be? You were the chosen one, were you not? Destined to bring balance to the force. But who chooses the chosen one? And why could they not choose another?”

Welp, I don't know why I wasn't quite expecting this issue to be so... brutal. It is not surprising that the Emperor is not exactly the most tolerant and patient person but I did thought that things would remain pretty much as we left them in the last issue.

It was... disturbing to see that all unfold. Not because of any other reason as the severe lack of heart and the immense power play that doing it is. I don't know, it left me cold and feeling a bit queazy.

Still, it was a good look into Vader and the Emperor's dynamic and how they really operated rather than just imagining how things must have been... because, let's be real, I was completely off the mark with anything I had believe over the years.

“Forget Padmé. Forget the boy. Forget everything… but your Emperor.”

______________

The Emperor makes me so sick... yet again, what else is new.

It was fun and I think I liked it well enough.

RTC.
______________

I am so ready to see how this all plays out!

The ending of the last issue was surprising and it left me really curious. It's also the ending of this first part of the journey and I will miss the characters.

so far Pak has brilliantly linked the Prequels with a Vader comic set during the original trilogy, between Empire and Jedi. Now he's linking to the Sequel trilogy, which is likely to prove controversial with some fans, but is providing much needed connective tissue to the Saga as a whole.

Returning from his quest to find out the truth of what happened to Padme, Vader is now on the receiving end of some harsh punishment from Palpatine. This essentially takes the form of him reliving his mutilation and abandonment on Mustafar. Which seems harsh, but, you know...Palpatine's gonna Palpatine.

And then we have that last page reveal and...well...I'm not going to spoil it for you, but I certainly wasn't expecting that.

3,5/5. Not much to it in itself. Pretty much just Vader taking a beating... There is some interest in the mind game the Emperor playing on him, how he play with him and manipulate him. Good in the grand scheme of things but a little empty by itself!

Review for the series: I think this is pretty interesting. I like the idea that Vader was a little shaken after the events of ESB and would have delved a bit more into Luke's background, especially how he was hidden from him for so long. It did start to lose me at the end, however, as it got more into the Emperor's secret plans (been there, done that, saw the movie), but I did really enjoy the writing and the artwork a lot. Clearly a lot of effort and heart was put into this series.

Definitely would not want Palpatine to be my boss...

Is it just me or did this issue feel a little short? I sped through it pretty quickly. It was still entertaining, but I feel as if some of the meat from the beginning is missing. Regardless, it's nice to continually see tie ins from the cinematic universe and the ruthlessness of the Sith.

This series picks up speed...

So far, the first five issues seemed overwrought and drawn out. I particularly disliked the narrative device of the forensic droid. However, as usual, a well used Palpatine elevates any material he’s in, and kicks this one into a higher gear. So far, inferior to the first two series, but showing promise.

The arc leading up to this one had been one of the best Darth Vader arcs. This one was pretty slow. Great at defining Vader and Palpatinea relationship, but lot has been written about that. The newly introduced villain is an interesting twist. But not enough to pull this issue out of the somewhat dark corner it withdrew itself into after having started with such a smash in the previous arc.

This is a terrible Vader story. If Palpatine could over power Vader so easily, how was Vader able to throw him down the shaft so easily? The story doesn’t make sense, hopefully the next 2 chapters bring it together. The artwork is fantastic though.

I do like this comic, I think the story is good. I like Vader as a character in this, but now we are getting into "Try to make TROS make sense" category and I'm really not here for this right now. It's petty and not the fault of the authors but alas.

EVERYONE needs to read this series of comics. The information and holes it fills in are so crucial to the Star Wars universe and timeline.

If you’re looking for a new comic to pick up or just need some Star Wars magic in your life, give this a go!

Poor entry

I enjoy this series but this entry is weak to me. Not as bad as seeing Vader in the back set of the gun ban underwater transport like he’s in an episode of Wayne’s world weak but still pretty weak.

todo mundo parece perceber algo digno de ser confiado e digno de ser escolhido em você, menos você. você não se escolheria, nem se fosse a única opção.

It is very menacing seeing Sidious punish Vader like this. Vader has to prove himself without the use of the Force. The issue was going great until the inclusion of Ochi at the end felt hamfisted.

Had some moments but it was basically just a silly way of making Exegol canon.

Book and comic authors are really out here turning inexplicable Episode IX inventions into meaningful characters.
