With an enemy who’s closer than they think…following the truth could pull them in too deep.Hired to help the navy SEALs train their working dolphins, veterinarian Keilani Lucas inadvertently crosses a vicious drug-smuggling ring on her first day. And when her fellow trainer, Lieutenant Micah Kent, comes to her rescue, she suddenly has an around-the-clock bodyguard. But with a traitor on the inside, can Keilani and Micah expose the mole before it’s too late?
Debut author alert!!!! And what an intriguing subject matter (and a bit controversial) to center a suspense around. I actually googled military trained dolphins because I'd never heard of this before and found it totally fascinating. And discovered they use seals too! Who knew? Love learning new things through reading fiction!
So we have dolphins (just about the coolest sea mammals ever!) and a whole base full of Navy SEALs and a veterinarian heroine all in one book! Can it get any better than that? Well, yes, if the suspense is so intense you can't catch your breath! And there's Danger with a capital D because...well, at one point -- just a quarter way or so into the book Keilani grouses that there have been four attempts on her life in just two days. The no-holds-barred-we-want-her-dead kind of assaults and the bad guys are just getting started.
This spunky heroine is a well-matched with her SEAL counterpart and I loved the way these two sparred and snapped while tossing out the occasional quip. A nice match of intensity for the edge-of-your-seat suspense.
An excellent debut -- and this reader hopes that Sommer Smith has more in store for us, especially since Micah has some SEAL buddies...just sayin'. :-)
I thoroughly enjoyed This book!!!!! I love dolphins. I would love to able too interact with some one day. It's a shame what humans will do innocent animals for their own gain.
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Under Suspicion. This is Sommer's first book for LIS. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to her next book. This story is well written, action packed, and full of faith. I know you are going to love it.
Veterinarian Keilani Lucas is sent to a Navy SEAL base to work with the dolphins. She arrives early and goes into the water outside of the base. She just needs to get the lay of the land. She ends up seeing things she shouldn't have seen. She is attacked by a huge man in scuba gear. She breaks lose but is chased on to the beach. She falls on the parking lot exhausted only to be held by huge fierce looking officer. She had been abused by a military men and is afraid of that uniform. Why did she take this job?
Navy SEAL Lieutenant Micah Kent will be her fellow trainer. Why did she come early? He comes to her rescue and becomes her personal body guard as her life is threatened. He can't believe one of his SEAL brothers could be a traitor. He must protect her and his heart as they are thrown together 24/7.
A challenging journey to find out what is happening on the base right under there noses. They must keep each other safe while protecting their dolphins. God has a plan for these two broken people; a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. Give Him your heart and watch Him work in your life.
Smith is a promising author. "Under Suspicion" shows a clean style, clear expression, and a good attention to pacing. Unfortunately, the action scenes are abrupt and vague, lacking in attention to the details of both hand-to-hand and firearm combat - elements that are central portions of the story's conflict. For example, Smith's characters have military training but do not demonstrate military fire discipline. I think I'd like to see Smith produce a more traditional romance, rather than a thriller-style romance.
Dolphins and SEALs! What more could you ask for. This was an really, really good one. Very action packed. From the Love Inspired of Harlequin but not preachy at all. Excellent story line. Will be reading any and everything by this author. Highly recommend!
Wow! I didn't realize how dolphins help the Navy. That was a really cool thing. This book had good characters, an interesting plot, and a different setting. Great work!
