Katie O’Sullivan is an award winning author with more than a dozen books contemporary romance and young adult books to her name, available online and in stores.
A voracious reader, she loves to read and write second chance stories with strong female characters and hot alpha males. A recovering English major, she earned her degree at Colgate University and now lives on Cape Cod with her family and big dogs, drinking way too much coffee and finding new uses for all the sea glass she obsessively collects from the beach. She writes YA and romantic suspense novels, as well as working full time for a high tech company. Which explains all the coffee.
Wow. I've been a Katie O'Sullivan fan for sometime now and love her sexy, Cape Cod romance books. But this is a totally different Katie O - story and I have to admit - I love it!
I don't usually read books that have any kind of Paranormal vibe, basically because I have trouble suspending my disbelief in ghosts. But this book felt so real to me, I could actually see the events unfolding just as they did. Kudos to Ms Sullivan for writing a story that leaped off the pages and grabbed me from page 1!
DOn't get me wrong - this book has a deep love story in it, the emotion laden and sexy kind Katie is famous for. But the plot of the book is just great.
Take a straight laced, hunky State trooper who believes in what he sees, not what can't be seen, a dead notorious woman, an ME who can hear ghosts, and the dead woman's sister, add a touch of blackmail, murder, and scandal, and you've got GHOST IN THE MACHINE.
I don't like spoilers so that's all I'll say for the plot, but just know that when you sit down to read this book, set aside a good amount of time because you won't want to put it down until you get to the ending.
The past 24 hours have been rough on Maggie Nelson. The break-in, getting shot at, her sister’s murder, her sister’s ghost, creepy cops coming onto her, and then there’s Jack MacDonald. He’s a state trooper and he’s investigating her sister’s murder. From the moment they meet, sparks fly. He makes her feel safe and protected. She vows to bring her sister’s murderer to justice. But when the bad guys come after her, she wonders if it’s worth getting killed for. Can Jack keep her safe with the help of her sister’s ghost or will she too wind up in a body bag?
Ghost in the Machine is a gripping paranormal thriller I couldn’t put down. I even dreamt about it. Katie O’Sullivan grabs the reader by the lapels and doesn’t let go until the last page. I love a good paranormal thriller but this one took me by surprise. It’s a well-crafted plot with multiple POV’s, a political intrigue subplot, a full cast of characters, riveting action, and romance between two lost souls. While its premise is suspense, I thoroughly enjoyed the romance between Jack and Maggie. The chemistry is off the charts but the great thing about that is the romance never felt rushed. The slow build-up had me whipping through the pages. The ending was a complete surprise. If you’re looking for a romantic suspense with paranormal elements, you’re going to love Ghost in the Machine. Highly recommend!
Dam so this book was so good to read. I loved it so much. Couldn't put it down. Told my husband he should read this book. Highly recommend you to go grab this book. Yes it's a five star book.
What a unique and intriguing story! I've read Katie O'Sullivan's romances, but this story adds the element of ghosts and it is incredible! You'll be pulled into the story from the first page and working to unravel the mystery. Jack is a swoonworthy hero––strong and handsome, with a heart of gold. O'Sullivan's characters have depth and complex layers. And the icing on the cake for me was the inclusion of a black cat!
If you're looking for love, mystery, and ghosts, check this one out. I highly recommend!
I’ve read and enjoyed other books by Katie O’Sullivan, so when I saw she had a new book out I had to read it, and I’m glad I did. Ghost in the Machine is a paranormal thriller that kept me up late reading—which is my favorite kind of book.
Maggie Nelson’s life is turned upside down when state trooper Jack MacDonald shows up on her doorstep to inform her of her sister’s death. But that’s not the worse news he has to deliver. Maggie’s life is in danger, and she has no idea why. I was pulled into the story from page one, trying to unravel the mystery right along with the characters. The ghost element is woven in flawlessly and adds to the mystery. Jack is oh-so-dreamy. I really enjoyed the romance between him and Maggie, and they quickly became two of my favorite characters. There were twists throughout the book that I didn’t see coming and an exciting ending. Ghost in the Machine is a rollercoaster of emotions that you don’t want to miss.
Katie O’Sullivan has a way of writing romance that draws you in with characters you can’t help but like. Her dialogue is strong and realistic, and the scenes flow so smoothly that it’s easy to become lost in the story, turning the pages so quickly that you soon find you’ve reached the end of the book.
Wow! I DO believe in ghosts. I love Katie O'Sullivan's work so I knew I'd love Ghost in the Machine. I just didn't know how much. To my knowledge this is Katie's first ghost story and she hit the ball straight out of the park and into next Tuesday. I don't know where to start. This is a perfect story. Scary, mysterious, suspenseful, romantic, and steamy. And all wrapped up in the familiar world of the Cape Cod area O'Sullivan brings to life so vividly through the MacDonald clan I have come to know and love. Ghost in the Machine-(perfectly intriguing title), has everything: a hunky hero, Massachusetts State Trooper Jack MacDonald who isn't all brawn, he reads philosophy. Maggie is a heroine who doesn't know how resilient she is. She's at the center of a scandal that will rock the Boston and national political landscape and might just get her killed. And there's a ghost. Ah, the ghostly goings on are so well done I believed every bit of it. I won't give anything else away. Just go and read this book. You're welcome.
I’m still trying to figure out what the machine is lol
There is so much to like about this book and its characters. I liked the paranormal element but it could have done without if the idea hadn’t formulated. It’s interesting that one character could only see the ghosts and the other could only hear them. I loved the MacDonald brothers! They were my favorite characters. I found the main female character flighty and child-like, which it seemed the author eluded to early on in the book. I wonder if there will be more about the gift of seeing ghosts? I’m definitely here for it. The female main character definitely grew on me y the end. One last thing I enjoyed was that there was action but it wasn’t too gory. I do wish the story was a little longer.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I loved how the ghost of Cameron helped in this case. Jack found Cameron's body and is convinced by the coroner who can hear ghosts to notify Maggie. Jack saves her and takes her to identify her sister. The surprise is Maggie can see Cameron's ghost. Jack continues to protect Maggie and falls for her and Maggie falls for him. Jack goes from not believing in ghosts to believing. The ones who killed Cameron are caught in the end. Jack is persistent in pursuing Maggie until he win her. He learned to live life and not put things off.
Absolutely recommend this book. The author knows how to weave a story so you become totally immersed in the story and can visualize it happening as if you are there seeing it first hand. Lots of twists, suspense, action, emotions, and mystery along with a fast paced but believable romance. Love the way Cameron is introduced and how she comes to realize she is a ghost and then how she helps throughout the story.- it certainly made intriguing how she could only be heard by Sam and could only be seen by Maggie. Loved Marley - he certainly added to the story. Loved Jack and Maggie and how they interacted.
Well written and entertaining. I really enjoyed this romantic suspense ghost story. The beginning of the novel drew me in and the story didn’t let go. The book isn’t too long which made for a quick, suspenseful, and romantic read. I enjoyed the chemistry between Maggie and Jack, but the other characters were all memorable including a ghost, a coroner who talks with dead people, and the cat. Ms. O’Sullivan’s novel ties in nicely with some of her previous works, which I appreciate, but Ghost in the Machine is a stand-alone.
Ghost in the Machine is an intriguing romantic suspense story with paranormal involvement.
This story has a lot going for it... secrets, scandal, politics, blackmail, kidnapping, danger, murder, suspense, and terrific characters. I loved it and would recommend it to any reader of romantic suspense. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
