This charming story with peaceful rhymes and colorful illustrations will explain to your child that it is okay to make a mistake and say I’m sorry. Lucas will teach your child good manners and positive behaviour at home, at school, in the store, and on the playground.
Kids learn best by example. With the perfect examples, this book offers, your child will have more understanding for others, accept diversity, thrive in a multicultural and inclusive environment, and show more empathy. Throughout the story, little superhero Lucas will learn what kindness means and understand what it is like to be kind, sensitive, caring, and generous.
Practice Random Acts of Kindness. Also included are Acts of Kindness Cards to promote empathy and kindness.

Kindness is something you can quickly learn:
when you give and ask for nothing in return.
Helping others is the least you can do.
If you are kind, kindness will come back to you.

"Kindness is my Superpower" is intended for children of all ages. We warmly recommend it to parents, teachers, and anyone who works with children.
A schoolteacher and an avid children's book author, Alicia Ortego, has a wealth of experience spanning over 20 years working with children. Alicia is a mother of two and a firm believer in the power of educating children at home to cultivate their character and create awareness in them from an early age.
Alicia's books about empathy, kindness, and compassion are an embodiment of her vast experience as a teacher and mother, her love for kids, and an overpowering passion for instilling in them a reading culture.
*The Author ever so kindly sent me this book in exchange for an honest review*
This is a beautiful book for children, with vibrant colors and adorable illustrations. And most importantly, a moral lesson of kindness is told, which is incorporated with a story of a little kid. Honestly, most adults these days need this reminder of showing kindness, nonetheless.
This book made me add another bookshelf, and I will call it "books that I will read to my kids." One day when I will become a mommy, I will read a book like this every night to my kids after I'll tuck them into bed; most probably in their cute Disney PJ's, and their arms wrapped around stuffed toys.
Most character development takes place within the first 12 years of one's life. So the best gifts that parents can give to their children are good books and lots of cuddles.
I wrote this book as a reminder for my self as a mother to teach my kids to be compassionate and kind towards others. I use a simple, easily understandable language, and an entertaining style that keeps children hooked to the book while learning vital lessons about kindness.
The book features little Lucas, a boy who learns about kindness and teaches your child good manners and positive behavior in different settings, whether at home, at school, in the store, and on the playground.
Children have many superpowers, kindness is only one of them.
Little Lucas is introduced to readers as an active, mischievous little boy. When Lucas finds himself in a bad mood, he takes it out on others. Lucas teases classmates and performs unkind acts.
Lucas and his mother talk about kindness. She explains how it means respecting others’ rights, being polite, helping others in need, and sharing with others. After thinking about it, Lucas decides it is much more fun to be mindful of others and practice kindness and empathy.
This book is written in rhymes with key words highlighted in the text. The illustrations are bright and attractive. Ortego also includes a list of ideas to implement simple acts of kindness.
I would recommend this book as a read-aloud discussion book, especially for primary grade readers. I received a copy of this book from the publisher and voluntarily chose to read and review with my honest opinions for no compensation.
From the very first page, this book is different from other children's books about kindness. The main character is a little boy having a bad day, who acts out by teasing his friend. His mother takes the time to explain why this is wrong, leading to a child-friendly explanation of what it means to be kind. The illustrations are adorable but it's the text that is the star here for me. Rhyming couplets make this book rhythmic, but the rhymes never seem forced. The book ends with a bingo-card of simple kindness ideas that any age can get in on. Need to get a copy of this book for the kiddos in my life!
I was invited to review this book, and so happy that I did. This book had so many elements that are just wonderful.
Firstly, the overarching premise is kindness, and that it is (or should be) our super strength! Although we certainly see this message around us all the time, I was wondering how it would be explored in a fresh new way? I was so pleasantly surprised that every act of kind was an achievable, realistic way that children could express the concept of 'being kind'. It showed them 'how' and 'what' to do, which for little kids, isn't always easy. However, it also opens the discussion to the sometimes uncomfortable topic of 'have I been unkind to others?' Developing that understanding, recognising it and then finding the capacity to change it is an important skill; this book helps develop this.
I think my favourite line by far "So I decided then and there, without any warning: that I will become kind in the morning." The idea that kindness is a conscious choice, even if you haven't perhaps been kind, you can change how you think and how you act. It is an incredibly positive message, and not one that should only be isolated to children, its very relevant for everyone. There is also a really lovely 'Acts of Kindness' page at the the end of the book. A really nice extension activity that can follow on from reading the book. This could be a great reading spark for a classroom or library activity. It moves from reading to doing which is integral element to the story.
From a literacy standpoint, the rhyming pattern and language is great. There's certainly spelling and literacy activities that can be based around sight words but also extended language; the inclusion of some more challenging language not only lifts the text but also presents a straightforwardness to the message.
Overall this book left me smiling and wanting to do something kind for someone else. I think we can and should all walk away from this story with the belief that kindness IS a superpower, and its our job to use it for good.
I very much enjoy reading this story to my daughter. It teaches a valuable lesson and real examples on how a small child can show kindness with simple acts. Very nicely illustrated too. I highly recommend it!
This book was a very "nice" book. The pictures were lovely and it was gentle and quiet. I didn't particularly like how this book had the kid "change" to being kind one day and afterwards everything they did was perfect and continuously "nice" until the end of the book. On the opening page the young kid Lucas says "sometimes I make some mistakes." But in this book he made a single mistake and then was perfect ever after. This really offered an idealised view of what it's like to be "kind" framing it as "magical" and easy to just do. Near the end Lucas states "I stopped being selfish, and I share all my toys, I don't shout out loud or make too much noise." I just think this book shows a pretty narrow view of kindness and one that most kids would struggle to maintain - the message it seems is be perfect or be mean without any middle ground. There was no evidence of Lucas struggling to control his temper or working to be kind, just "So, right then and there, without any warning, I decided to become very kind in the morning" and the bam! Lucas is selfless, perfect, and he feels "happy inside", "not angry at all", "Kindness and doing good deeds made my heart shine", "put me in such a good mood", "continued to be kind, with joy and with glee".... I just found it a bit much. Maybe I'm being a grouch but it felt a bit like smugly perfect Gallant from Goofus and Gallant Highlights comics - hard to relate to the character and I almost hoped he'd mess up just to see some growth and development.
The message in this book is one we all need about how to be kind! This book is written for children!
Lucas is the main character. He goes to school. He made a mistake. Don’t we all make mistakes?
Lucas teased his friend Lisa who wears glasses. Lucas was in a bad mood. And he was rude. I know when I make a mistake I feel bad. Lucas talks with his mom about what he did. They have a good discussion about kindness.
What is kindness? Using nice words, respecting people and doing a good deed. Lucas understands about being kind and wants to be kind the next day.
I love how Lucas is kind. He puts away his toys. He makes friends with a new boy. He apologizes to his friend Lisa for teasing her. He shares supplies at school and does kind things on the playground helping others.
Lucas is a changed boy. He has learned to see when others are in need and to offer his help. He brings a piece of cake to a lonely neighbor and ties his little sister’s shoe!
At the end of the book are some great ideas on how to do simple acts of kindness. They are all wonderful ideas!
The artwork is very nice and flows with the story well. I like how this is a teaching book but has a gentle approach. We all can relate to making a mistake and it’s nice to know we can change our behavior too!
I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy from the author. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
Kindness is My Superpower is about a boy who learns that being kind to others is a much better feeling than being a bully. The story is told in rhymes and the rhyming words are bold, making it easy for children to connect them. The illustrations are colorful and detailed. They’re great! At the end of the book are suggested acts of kindness such as holding the door open for someone or giving a candy bar to the bus driver.
This is a wonderful way for children to learn about intentional kindness. It teaches them about compassion as well as acting without expecting anything in return, which seems to be a problem nowadays. I definitely recommend Kindness is My Superpower for children to read and even for families to use to come up with ideas of acts of kindness they can do together.
I have found this book today searching in YouTube for the book a Penpal for Max by Gloria Rand, and in the recommendations, it showed this book, I inmediatly opened the YouTube link that let me read and hear the history of Lucas, a little boy who made bully to his classmate Lisa because of her big glasses. Then Lucas came back home, and his mother gave him a really beautiful and good advice about kidness. She told him that kidness is been nice with her sister when she is mad, is been good and caring with people when they are tired, it´s when you say a gentle word to someone (not like he did with Lisa), it´s when you care and feed animals, is when you respect old and young people, is when you help everyone in need, is also when you do a good deed. Lucas understood so well the message, that the next day he began to take action and act like a kind person with everyone around him. He even said sorry to Lisa for bothering her yesterday, and she told him is fine, that she had already forgot about that.
I recommend this book 100%, the message it has is really powerful for people of all ages, and the paintings really beautiful.
Really good job Alicia, thank you a lot!

This was a cute book about a little boy who had been mean to one of his friends until he went home and his mom told him that it was wrong and that he should be kind to others. After the talk with his mom, he knew how important it was to be kind and he was kind to everyone all day. He was kind at home, and at school too. He even apologized to his friend for being mean to her. The illustrations were nice and colorful and I loved them so much. I think the rhyming was also a nice touch that was added into the story. I think that it is very important to be a kind person so I really loved this book. I would read it over again, and I would definitely recommend this book for a read aloud or just for kids to read on their own. It could help with showing the children what it means to be kind and can put a great image in their head.
This is a sweet book. The rhymes are reassuring and give good vibes. The message is important. It may simplify a bit, but the point of it is to show that kindness is good and makes givers and receivers feel happy. So why not be kind? I'm glad to have read the book.
Such a wholesome book. I’m a big advocate of kindness (who isn’t) and so this was really special! I liked the resolution the main boy got. I like how he applied the kindness to all the different people in his life and learned that kindness comes back around and even removes you from your grumpy mad state.
And the illustrations! I’ve definitely found another favorite artist to follow and learn from!
I read this from kindle tonight to Julianna. She gives it 5 stars. She liked it because he learned how to be nice and started listening after he was not listening at the beginning.
This review is intended for educational and informative purposes. I hope you enjoy!
Kindness is My Superpower is a high-quality picture book that promotes empathy and compassion. The plot had excellent pictorial interpretations that supported the suggested action. Furthermore, each illustration described ways to show random acts of kindness in school, home, and public areas. The recommended settings were places young children will visit with an adult. I liked how the author-supplied information on random acts of kindness through a plot that compared/contrasted kind and unkind behaviors. Also, she explains the benefits a child will gain from being kind and continuously highlights why being kind is essential. Regarding phonemic awareness, I like how the author consistently used syntax style. Each noun/verb was bolded and preceded by an adjective within the book. I liked this approach because this format teaches the child a word and helps them understand the word's meaning. I would recommend this book for children ages two years -5 years of age. My recommendation is to use the book for classroom instruction that focuses on social-emotional awareness and for parents to use to have an idea of activities they can do with their children to build their vocabulary social-emotional awareness. Also, as Alicia Ortego (author) mentioned, this book is an excellent way to promote family bonding. I rated this book a five out of five because I believe it essential to grant children an opportunity to be kind to others despite their differences, especially with how the world is shifting. Also, my rating is supported by the following: the author's tone being unbiased, the plot is consistent and realistic, the appropriateness of the illustration for young children, the presentation of the intended audience (young children), usage of sensory language, and content being composed in a manner that supports young children with making predictions.
Kindness is a Kite String: The Uplifting Power of Empathy is a very sweet story that explorers helping children learn to be kind. Sometimes children struggle understanding other people's feelings. This book can help them identify situations that calls for kindness. It is presented in a very simple way that is easy for children to understand and encourage them to do something kind for others. I would recommend this book for children because it has excellent example that relatable to situations that children will face in their daily lives. I also like the simple comparison that it uses to help children understand what kindness such is as it is a kite string that uplifts others. This book is recommended for older children, but I would recommend it for children ages three and up. This book is good for teachers because it can be used to make many fun activities to show what is kindness.
Genre: Fiction Grade Level: Lower and Upper Elementary (K-3)
I think this is a great book to read to all elementary students, not just kindergarteners and first graders. In my opinion, it could be extended to third grade, maybe even higher. I think this because all elementary students have trouble being kind sometimes and this book has a great moral lesson of how far kindness can get you. In addition, I like how it provided examples of how to be kind at the end. Overall, I thought this book had beautiful illustrations, which included children of many races and ethnic groups, and and witty rhymes that kept the children engaged with the story. I look forward to reading more books in this series and will read it to my class next year. I would give this book 5 stars.
Parents today are very concerned about raising kids who will be forces for good in the world. We tell our kids that what goes around comes around. If you want to be treated with kindness, you need to treat others with kindness. We’ve been successful for the most part, but kids make mistakes (who doesn’t?) and need a refresher now and then. There are many ways to teach children empathy and understanding, and one very simple yet powerful approach is through books. To make it a lot easier I have got you guys a book that I personally read and it kinda fascinated me. The book I am talking about is called “Kindness is my Superpower: A children's Book about Empathy, Kindness and Compassion (My Superpower Books). “Kindness is my Superpower: A children's Book About Empathy, Kindness and Compassion” is a title which tells what it has to offer from the title. I mean it has the answer to why of a reader. Reader can figure out from the title as to why he/she should invest his/her or their children’s time in the book. Moreover from the children’s point of view the cover of the book is really a very amazing one. The description of the book is fairly written which gives a total overview before reading the story. “Kindness is my Superpower: A children's Book About Empathy, Kindness and Compassion” when it comes to the storyline, the book is has a very innovative and a unique concept which has been written nicely but I would say that the book could have been better. I feel the book does its job for the children but when it comes to their parents reading with them their expectations from the book become higher. The point which I would say attracted me the most was the flow of the concept. While writing the story efforts were made and that a reader can guess for sure but making the book worth reading was a great job that was done by the author. However the book had some errors , grammatical mistakes and that is something no one expects from a children book. Otherwise the book is worth reading. So you should definitely read the book.
Kindness is my Superpower: A Children’s Book About Empathy, Kindness, and Compassion is a children’s contemporary realistic fiction book by Alicia Ortego. It is intended to be read by the ages of 3-9 years old. I gave this book a 4-star rating because it is an excellent way to help young children understand to be aware of how they treat others and understand the importance of being kind.
Kindness is my Superpower: A Children’s Book About Empathy, Kindness, and Compassion is about a young boy named Lucas who is not very familiar yet with what it is like to be kind to others, and that sometimes people can hurt other people’s feelings. He realizes this when he make a classmate cry by laughing at her glasses. When Lucas feels he did something wrong, he talks to his mom about it. She then teaches Lucas the importance of being kind to others, no matter who they are. That making people happy and helping others is not only beneficial to the other person, but to himself as well! Understanding how to be kind and caring to others is such an important thing for young children to learn, as well as being kind to yourself. I would use this book when working with young children to show them that mistakes can be made, and feelings can get hurt, but you can always keep learning through life and keep thriving to make the best decisions when it comes to how to treat others, yourself, and how you would want others to treat you!
In this book, Lucas learns that kindness is cool! He realizes that teasing his friend was very rude and that instead he should be kind. He then goes on to show kindness too many people and explains how it makes him happy to see others happy. I liked the illustrations in this book. They were interesting but also simple enough that they were not overwhelming to a child. I also liked how Lucas was not perfect, since he teased his friend, but he learned from his mistake. The book flowed very nicely and I feel it would be easy for a child to follow. The book also offered many examples of kindness that children can relate to and apply such as, waiting at the slide, or helping his sister tie her shoes. I liked how the end of the book explained how it is good for families to do acts of kindness together and gave a bingo board of acts of kindness to complete. I think there could be a little more representation in this book. Although there is some, the majority of characters seem to be white. Having a white male main character is also quite common. I would recommend this book to others. I think it would be especially beneficial for teachers or parents to use to help children understand what kindness is. The novel would also be useful for teachers to teach rhyming words since the end of each line has words that rhyme in bold.
Kindness Is My Superpower is such a beautiful book! 💖 From the very first page, it radiates warmth and positivity. The story shows children that kindness isn’t just something small—it truly is a superpower that can change the world around them.
The writing is simple yet powerful, making it perfect for young readers to understand, while the message lingers with older kids and even adults. The illustrations are bright, cheerful, and full of life, keeping little ones engaged while reinforcing the story’s gentle lessons.
I love how the book teaches empathy, compassion, and respect in a way that feels natural and fun. My favourite part is how it celebrates that kindness doesn’t have to be a grand gesture—sometimes it’s as simple as sharing, helping, or saying kind words.
This book isn’t just a bedtime read; it’s one that sparks meaningful conversations at home or in the classroom. It reminds children (and us grown-ups!) that the choices we make every day can lift others up.
If you’re looking for a positive, uplifting story that teaches values while leaving everyone smiling, Kindness Is My Superpower is a must-have. I can’t recommend it enough—this is the kind of book that makes the world a better place, one reader at a time.
