Rate this book
A standalone zombie reverse harem romance.

None of us expected to live more than a few days when our friends and family became the walking undead, consumed by the Mortem Mori virus.

The zombie apocalypse came and went, and humans formed a new world in the chaos.

The Bend is a law unto itself. A town on the edge of Haven City, and ruled by greed and fear.

I might be a mercenary, but I'll do anything to protect my people. Our ragtag community looks out for each other. We kill for each other.

When a set of important blueprints goes missing, my boss wants the mess fixed pronto.

The offer is too good to be true.

Find the plans, and he'll buy my freedom.

But there's a catch.

I have to work as part of a team. Four men chosen for their skills. Each one more dangerous than the last and I've had enough of dangerous men to last me a lifetime.
I'll do anything to protect the Bend. But what about protecting my heart?

This was a pretty dang good RH zombie novel. I enjoyed the heroine who had her faults but also rose above her trauma. Apocalyptic life is never easy and she knows that far too well. The heroine is well known for her zombie slaying and has a kill bill flair to her carrying around a sword and having more fighting skills than any man woman or child. I don’t think the romance was as slow burn as it was stressed it would be. Doesn’t bother me either way but the one thing that does is the cover of the book. I absolutely love that the heroine is a POC but in no way does the cover portray this and I’m really bummed about that. There are some errors here and there throughout the book that were mildly annoying but the story was pretty thrilling so they didn’t bother me much. A whole lot of ex OW and OM drama, so much so that it was like a soap opera at times. I wish the story had a bit more depth, . By this I mean in hindsight much of the book is spent with them looking out for a stolen goat and running from said exes, funny but I wanted more. It was a purposeful distraction though and did give the group time to bond. Definitely made for a great read.

Alphabet challenge - L

Finally! I finally got through this one. I dislike zombies. It was stop start pretty much up to the point the team met for the first time. I didn't like the Rex-Gantz thing, same with the Wasteland. I liked the guys. Griffin's secret was obvious, Colt was the happy go lucky clown of the group until facing his fears, and Noah...Noah was a bit of a dick. Fave was Jace. He felt the most real. Not much of a mystery. It's always the ex. Rather than the conspiracy, the goats were the best bit. The tea thing was weird. Glad I can scratch this off the TBR, but probably my least fave by this author.

UGH THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD!!!! It was SO addicting to read, and I enjoyed every second of it. I have a huge exam tomorrow that I should be studying for, but I’m setting myself up for failure because I’m reading instead…

Anyway for the book, I absolutely love that it was a standalone. I should have known the first plot twist, but while I didn’t see it coming, I wasn’t surprised. For the second plot twist I knew that it was not true or sticking and the part that came with it I had guessed.

I loved every part of this book, and I am actually really sad that it is over. I will definitely be looking into the authors other books, and I hope they are nearly as good as this one!

Apocalypse fiction is one of my favorite genres. This one was very well done, with the world building painting a very vivid picture. I did enjoy all the characters in this novel. I enjoyed the fact that there was no Insta love/insta lust in the novel. There was attraction, yes, but not the oh my gosh I just can't control myself craziness that normally goes on in standalone rh novels.

The only issues I had were small ones, really. There were a handful of editing errors where word choice should have been caught and the authors overuse of suspish. I can se where she was going with it, but it was too much, really. Even with those two things, this was a fantastic read. This is the second novel that I have really enjoyed by this author, and I can't wait to read more.

I love a good reverse harem and I love the story set in the zombie apocalypse.....to get a book that has both is like a cherry on top ! Absolutely loved it. The only issue I have is the cover. The fmc is a POC....while everything else kinda fits the character on the cover....that one huge detail does not.
I loved the storyline, of Tucker trying to do some good while the world around her is in ruins.
They call her "Protector of the Bend"
Don't let her petite size fool you, she's lethal.
When her boss requests she find something of his that was stolen he also assigns her some help. Not that she needs it. Or so she thinks.
In comes Griffin, Noah, Jace, and Colt. Each with their own special skills and Tucker soon finds out other skills of their too that's not job related. 🤭😉🥵
.
Overall, loved this story. The action, the spice, the twists, and best of all, the happy ending !!!

This had good parts and bad parts. I liked the goats and how they are used through out the story to bring a little humor and humanity. I liked the reverse harem. I liked certain parts like the bombs. I was heartbroken over Thomas. I so wanted him to be a good guy. I found parts to be a little predictable and I wanted to see more Zombies.

A rott'n good time

I like it when the authors decide to take zombie booksaway from the sci-fi and put them more on the 'scientific' story path. The storyline of the Mortimus Moi virus that was being played with by scientists to create a 'cure-all vaccine', from cancer to AIDS, that accidentally spread to humans causing the zombie apocalypse is intriguing. As a scientific- minded person who has a vivid imagination, I can see this possibility because we humans as always testing the limits.

While it is a slow-burn RH (which I think is appropriate for this storyline and setting), there is still plenty of action for to keep the reader entertained. Tucker (aka Amelia) is a jaded and very guarded character who holds the others at arms length for a good deal of the book and remains very suspicious for quite awhile. Being from an abused past, she is not going to let someone in easily. The four men she ends up working with are all broken and just as damaged in their own, too. Their broken pieces for well.

I didn't feel like the storyline was rushed, but rather I wished I could have read more. Little strings in the story all came together and were explained, which I really appropriate (especially since the author states this is a stand-alone). Overall, it was a very entertaining book that I read straight through in one sitting. As always, thank you Ms. Haze for another delightful read

My first Haze book and my first zombie apocalypse book as well (that I can remember, although I read plenty of other sci fi). I almost didn't download it because the blurb beats you over the head with how much of a slow burn it's going to be, and I like my RHs spicy. But it's not as slow burn as I expected, and the tension is great.

The FMC is fantastic and flawed, written really realistically. The world building is great, although I had to go back and re-skim a few of the political parts in order to understand some of the dynamics. The twist was good, and the MMCs are super chill about the relationship and already exist, which is probably my favorite type of RH. It was the perfect length and with the perfect amount of detail for a standalone....what a blessing to not always be signing up for a six book series!

I liked it so much that I went and downloaded the rest of Haze's standalones as well.

DNF at 37%. I really wanted to like this book, but couldn't quite connect with it. I liked the idea of the different areas/'cities' in the post apocalypse, and I love a good RH romance with a strong female lead and the badass team of mal mercs that she really doesn't need. The turf wars were also an interesting factor, and I liked the inclusion of the FMC's connection to Gantz. I'm not too sure what exactly about this book put me off, only that I eventually got to a point where I saw I had a good few hundred pages to go and thought I would be better of spending my time trying another book instead. The premise was great, but the execution was muddy and lacking true character or creativity. Maybe this was in part due to the fact that I didn't finish the book, and maybe I missed out on a great steamy romance, but for now at least I'm putting this one to the side. 3/10.

Great post apocalyptic story

I really liked this story because it was filled with great characters, interesting storyline and a HEA.

This story was refreshing because Tucker is a strong female lead who isn't a burden or annoying hindrance that the men just have to fall in lust (I mean love) with.

Tucker was a strong, independent, woman who not only survived but helped others with their problems and did her best to save those she could.

Love the 4 men in her life too and how loving and protective they were of her.

If you like post apocalyptic romance with rh then you will like this book!

DNF

Really tried with this book but just couldn't read anymore. World build is essential however describing areas and buildings more that rolling out the plot is not good. By 60% I reckon only 1 chapter was the actual plot. The heroine has a chip on her shoulder, so even dipping back into the plot was not engaging. The addition of smut there didn't alleviate my boredom.

The whole line about the heroine saying she cries when someone asks if she's okay cause apparently it's a girl thing... Yeah right... Just after she was being unpleasant. Not relatable.

But I've read worse.

Oh man. That was a nail bitter at points. Before the virus Tucker was a social worker. After, she does favours for people that are worth their weight in gold. When she’s asked to find papers with a group brought in she doesn’t know what she’s gotten into. She’s been hurt since all this started and these guys are secretive and complicated.
Loved the slow burn of this. So worth it. They open up slowly and pieces at a time. And got me so invested in them all that when the climax came I stayed up far too late to find out what happened

Dystopian/Zombie Reverse Harem. I liked the overall story, the ending did feel a little rushed and some of the whys fell flat. I actually think this could have been a great duet or even series to really explore the group dynamics. Would have liked to see more group and MM scenes. I liked Tucker's character, and she did rise to the occasion more than once, it was nice to see her not solely dependent on the MMCs.
CW: zombies, dystopian, violence, past DV and noncon Somnophilia (prior relationship), mentions of trafficking and forced sex work.

Really enjoyed this!

I really enjoyed this zombie apocalypse reverse harem romance!

I loved the world built for this story. The characters were strong. Tucker is a strong FMC, and she and the guys meshed so well together. It was slow paced and perfect. I love the writing style from the author.

I've been trying to find the right amount of zombie action mixed with reverse harem romance and spice, and this was had it!

This was my first read from Michaela Haze, but I'll definitely be looking at everything else she has written.

Oh Thank God!!!
I thought I was going to be stuck reading sh**ty KU books forever
A solid 3.5*
This one stands out because all the characters seem well grounded and realistic.. So much so that your can’t help getting attached and rooting for them.

Nice story building and suspense... Couldn’t put it down even if the lack of sleep was a real concern for me... Also had me laughing out loud a few times.

Highly recommend

This was missing something

Because I work and have a family and lock down is pretty much over I'm very picky about what I read. Also I know reviews are important to the author and readers. I didn't read the reviews before I read this book just the description. And that was a mistake. The first 80% of the book was just flat from why they were brought together until when some action finally happened with some zombies. I was very disappointed with this read.

As always, I was pleased with the work of Michaela Haze. This book is so good in every way.
I just LOVE Tucker! She's a real badass with her own issues, wanting to help everyone and even more. She doesn't back down, even if it's only for a goat (laugh).
I love each guys, they're fierce and stick together no mather whats. I can't even have a favorite one!
And the story is awesome. Honestly, read it, it's just so good!!!

Terrific!

This was really good, great characters, and it moved along nicely.
One thing did bother me though...
A little pet peeve of mine, I do wish the cover matched the description of the Fmc who was repeatedly described throughout the book as a dark skinned, black girl. Which absolutely does not reflect the cover model at all.
Enjoyed the book despite this though, and it wrapped up in a very satisfactory way.

This wasn’t my fav of her books but it was still pretty good. The ending was still a bit rushed but not as much as others. The beginning was a bit long and it was a push to get through some of the chapters. Of course part of that is def that I’m not a fan of zombie books shows movies etc so some of that is on me 😂😂

a good book

I don’t know what I was expecting from this book, I’m not normally a zombie apocalypse book type person. I picked it anyways, and I loved it. I wish it was a series so we could have gotten more details and time with the characters, but it was a really good book. I would definitely recommend.

3.5 stars! A standalone zombie rh w/ HEA

I liked this book, it was different and we meet Tucker, who was a badass fmc living in an apocalyptic world! I just felt like there was something missing, some details were not properly explained. I liked the ending though and I truly liked the guys! Overall good read if you want a quick read with suspense and plot!

I kind of enjoyed this one, for the story being a tad different to the usual themes. Our FMC has become a badass and her four men bring something to the table for her. There isn’t a lot of chapters taken up with smut and the story for me flowed quite well along with a couple of surprises. All in all a quick read 🧟‍♀️🧟‍♂️

Overall enjoyable

Overall enjoyable characters, story, and enjoyed the mystery "who done it "within the zombie and romance plots. Spent a little too much time describing places and surroundings, so skimmed that. Few editorial errors but better then most Kindle.

Slow

I rarely not finish a book. There's quite a few inconsistencies with the characters and their description. It just didn't draw my attention and I cannot therefore recommend this book.

Interesting backstory and interesting world.

The character were a little one demensional but then again, it's pretty hard to put 5 Mc in one volume.

There was also some half explained stuff and loose ends but all in all it was a good zombie rh.

Life and Limb is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). So, walking dead--weird and outrageous storyline, but the author made this plot fun and interesting. I enjoyed the characters and the story's progression. A great read.

Good read

Good read- relatable characters with understandable reactions to situations. No insta-anything aside from attraction. Only complaint is that I want it longer so we could learn more about the characters and everything in this post-apocalyptic world.

I'd say this had a short ending, but frankly there was no ending. The book just stopped. I've never read a standalone book with a cliffhanger, but I can't say I enjoyed it. It was good until then, but it should have had an extra 10 chapters.
