The Lords of London #2

The Most Eligible Viscount in London

Rate this book
In bestselling author Ella Quinn’s intriguing new Regency trilogy, a dashing suitor must decide if love and marriage are mutually exclusive...

Viscount Gavin Turley is convinced that love matches cause nothing but trouble. Still, after months of courting, he’s fallen for Miss Georgie Featherton. He’s passionate about her, in fact. But words of love are not an indulgence he will allow himself. When he presents Georgie with his marriage proposal, he will lead with his head—not his heart. His qualifications as a husband are excellent, after all. What could go wrong?

No sooner does Gavin kneel on one knee than Georgie’s heart goes aflutter with joy. Finally, the proposal she longed for had arrived. Yet Gavin seemed to be listing his credentials for a business partnership, not a romantic union. Without a declaration of love, Georgie can only reject his offer—unless the ladies of the ton, and Georgie’s grandmama, have anything to do with it. For sometimes it takes a wiser eye to see the love behind a guarded heart—and a clever scheme to bring it out of hiding...

Miss Georgie Featherton is hopeful for a proposal from her beau, Viscount Gavin Turley. But, when Gavin does make a proposal, he seemed to be listing his credentials for a business partnership. Georgie will accept nothing less than love, so she refuses him. Now Gavin needs to convince her they belong together.

This is the second book in the Lords of London series. Sadly, this book just wasn't for me. The story started interestingly enough, with the rejected proposal. The hero witnessed his father's heartbreak and devastation after his mother died, and decided he would not allow himself to fall victim to love. He wants a solid marriage built on companionship and lust, and he thinks he's found that with Georgie. But, for me, the story meandered aimlessly for chapters with a long separation and various conversations with a large cast of characters. The hero and heroine just didn't spend enough time together and, even when they did, I didn't feel invested in their happy ending.

Readers who like a sweeter, simpler story may want to give this a try.

All of Ella Quinn's books are set in the same world around the same time and the future MCs are introduced early while old friends pop back in. I did not discover her until The Worthingtons and never went back to read her first 9 book series. I was so excited to receive this from Netgalley that I quickly picked up and read the first book of this series, and I'm glad I did as this one picks up where it left off. I do recommend reading it first, though this could be read as a standalone.

Not a lot happens. There is a little angst but not too much. The author doesn't rely on standard tropes. The story just flows comfortably along. There is an entire cast of characters and a secondary romance. I enjoyed the development of the H/h relationship. Georgie was a smart and very likable heroine. She made wise decisions with both her heart and her head. Gavin was alright. He was a good man who was a product of his childhood. There were also some fun scenes with matchmaking grandmothers, Dowagers, and mothers.

If you enjoy this style of easy going story with a group of friends and a little adventure and wit, I think you will find this to be a satisfactory sequel. I will definitely finish out the trilogy once it is available.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Miss Georgie is ecstatic at the idea of Viscount Gavin Turley proposing to her. She knows it's coming and is sure it will bring her nothing but the happy life she's dreamed of.

However, when Gavin's proposal ends up sounding more like a business contract than a declaration of love she starts to doubt his feelings for her, and instead of saying "Yes" she asks Gavin if he loves her.

Gavin has committed to a life without love after seeing his father destroyed after the love of his life, Gavin's mother, died. He doesn't answer Georgie and so she rejects his offer, completely heartbroken.

Gavin is shocked at her rejection and tries to figure out how to win Georgie back without professing a love that he believes he will never have for her. It's obvious to everyone else that Gavin DOES love Georgie and pretty soon Grandmama and family interfere to try and make this couple realize they DO love each other.

The basic premise of this story is good and had a lot of promise, it was a fun concept with a big cast of characters to get to know.

Unfortunately this book didn't work for me. The writing was needlessly wordy and that slowed down long passages of the book. It felt like everything was being explained to the reader in a very basic way with nothing shown that made you feel lije you were there with the characters.

And the romance was very lacking. It's hard for me to believe that this couple was in love or that I even wanted them to be together after the opening proposal scene and honestly it never really got any better.

Series: The Lords of London #2
Publication Date: 3/30/21
Number of Pages: 320
*** 3.4 Stars ***

We’ve met Gavin Turley and Georgie Featherton in earlier books and assumed they were a fixed couple. Apparently, they were and they weren’t. Now, we have their story, and the beginning isn’t very auspicious. Georgie has waited forever for Gavin to propose – and now he is bungling it big time. As he lays out all of the business-type reasons they should marry, Georgie becomes more and more and more disillusioned. Never once does Gavin mention love and when Georgie asks him if he loves her, he cannot/does not answer. That, of course, tells her all she wants to know and she declines.

Georgie leaves the room and proceeds to her bedroom where she manages to cry her eyes out. Gavin stares at her retreating figure in disbelief. He knows Georgie has been looking forward to and was favorably inclined toward his proposal. What did he do wrong?

Gavin absolutely cannot allow himself to love his wife. His father loved his mother beyond all else and when she died, it ruined his father and his family. Love just cannot happen for him – he cannot allow it. He admires Georgie, is fond of her, and is grateful for the friendship they share, but he does not – cannot – love her. How can he convince her that what they have is better than love?

Friends and family are definitely not shy about interfering in Georgie and Gavin’s lives, but Gavin is just not being cooperative. They ALL know Gavin loves Georgie, Gavin just doesn’t know it nor would he admit it if he did. Everyone has their work cut out for them, but when Georgie is in danger, Gavin finally realizes all he could lose. But, is it too late? Has Georgie already moved on?

While I liked the basic story, it was pretty bland overall. There wasn’t much excitement at all – even the danger to Georgie was a bit anti-climactic. I also found that I wasn’t overly invested in either of the characters – especially Georgie. I understand she wanted to marry for love – and that she supposedly loved Gavin. What I didn’t understand was – if she loved him so much, why was she almost immediately considering what other eligible gentlemen might be available to her. I know it would take me a long while to get over the fact that someone I loved didn’t love me and I definitely wouldn’t be looking for his replacement almost as soon as the door shut behind him. Then, there were the interfering friends who didn’t do anything helpful to further the relationship. To my view, they hindered more than helped.

It was a nice story and I was happy to see Georgie and Gavin get their very lovely HEA – as well as a happy event for Frits and Adeline from The Most Eligible Lord in London.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Georgie believe’s in love she want’s Gavin to admit that he does love her but how. I loved this book when it comes out as a physical book form I’ll be getting it.

Why, in the year 2021, is a major publisher like Kensington putting out a book with MULTIPLE instances of a racial slur in it for no good reason? The G word (g*psy) isn’t a word you should be using unless you are of Romani origin, same as you should not be using the N word unless you are Black, and the G word is used many, many times in this book with not a Romani in sight. Full context; the characters attend a house party at which they are informed a game called a ‘g*psy hunt’ will be played. No further details are forthcoming initially and the hero and heroine get to virtue signal by saying if it’s actually a hunt of Romani people, they would put a stop to it. The game turns out to be a simple treasure hunt, with the G word being used for it for… well, no real reason I could actually discern.

It is not difficult to stop using words which are slurs. It should REALLY not be difficult for a major publisher like Kensington to have a list of words which you just MAY NOT USE and for their editors to run searches on those words.

In the year 2021, this is quite simply unacceptable.

I was already hating the book before I ran across the G slur, by the way. It’s the lowest stakes imaginable - the heroine turns down the hero’s proposal at the beginning of the book because he doesn’t love her. Instead of doing the honourable thing and letting her go to find someone who DOES love her, he decides to pursue her and convince her to marry him anyway, because his wishes outweigh her happiness, I guess? Anyway, after an extremely feeble threat to the heroine’s safety, from which she competently rescues herself, the hero realises he does love her after all, blah blah, happily ever after.

How this drags on for over 300 pages is beyond me. It’s one of the dullest books I’ve ever waded through, and I’ve read The Shell Seekers by Rosamund Pilcher. Losing my temper over finding the G slur repeated in the middle of it is about the only thing that kept me awake enough to read to the end, so that I can write this critique with a full and complete knowledge of the whole book.

It’s terrible. Don’t waste your time.

This is the third book I’ve read by this author; the first, The Marquis She’s Been Waiting For, I gave two stars because I found it boring and low-stakes. I figured I’d give her another try and the second book of hers I read, Believe In Me, I actually liked and gave four stars to. But this. After this, I’m done. This gets one star, and I’m spitting mad that a major publisher is putting their name on this rubbish.

The Most Eligible Viscount in London by Ella Quinn is a nice little story about a proposal gone wrong and what happens after she says no, even though she wants to say yes. It’s the second book in the series, but can be read as a standalone. It’s a fun little book, and I was entertained, but I couldn’t help but hope for just a bit more.

Viscount Gavin Turley thinks he’s found the woman he can spend his life with, and tells her so with business-like efficiency. He sounds like he’s offering her a position in his household instead of a lifetime as his wife (granted, they’re kind of one in the same). She wants love, joy, happiness, and he offers her lust, companionship, and a great retirement plan… I mean support for the rest of her life. Not exactly what she wants, so she turns him down. And here we are.

Georgie wants to be loved and refuses to settle for less. Gavin thinks love is destructive, seeing how his father was so badly effected by his mother’s death. He’ll settle for a tolerable match with someone he can get along with. When she says no, he needs to figure out how to get her to yes. Add in friends, relations, and a grandmother, and you can’t help expect a happily ever after. A slow burn romance, I found myself setting my kindle down from time to time, which disappointed me. I wanted to adore this book, since the opening was so fantastic. But after a while, I would stop, set down my kindle, and come back in a day or two and start reading. It’s a fun book, but I guess I was hoping for more.

Overall, I liked this book. The premise is great, the characters are believable. I just wished I loved this book. 3 stars.

I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I saw this cover and IMMEDIATELY wanted to read this book. It just drew me in. I liked the idea of this book, but the story just let me down.

First off, the overabundance of characters in the beginning of the book was overwhelming. Introducing all those people and their stories got confusing, and detracted from the real purpose of the story. They didn't add anything, and felt a little unnecessary. It made the book fussy.

Secondly, the fact that this couple literally isn't really on page together much until after 40 percent is rough. I felt like we were in their thoughts A LOT, but even those thoughts got so repetitive. I just missed the interactions between the characters because by the end it was hard to believe it was true love forever.

I'm glad he fell in love with Georgie, but it wasn't very believable for me.

2.5 rounded to 3 stars.

*Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC of this novel in exchange for a review.*

I don't have too much to say about this novel. I really liked the premise. The set up was amazing from page one. I was ready to see the hero, Gavin, really pursue Georgie. So I settled in and then I waited... and I waited...

And everyone else and their grandmother was helping this guy try to win over this girl and it still took until 80% before they even kissed.

To put it bluntly. I was bored. I was so bored. I can't even really recommend this to anyone because it didn't follow through on the premise. The hero doesn't really go through a journey to realize his love.

They just flirt with people in their way trying to help them get together... its was long, drawn out and boring.

Especially since I feel left down after that great opening 10%.

2.5 stars, but I will round to 3 stars for goodreads.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

In The Most Eligible Viscount in London, Miss Georgie Featherton is expecting life to take a turn very quickly. She's been courted by the dashing Viscount Gavin Turley, and a proposal is imminent, but when the moment comes, and he can't say that he loves her, Georgie simply refuses. She has always wanted a love match, and rare as they are, and can't face life as a wife without love. For Gavin, he can't imagine anyone else as his Viscountess, but seeing how his father broke down, and crumbled after losing his own love, he can't face the possibility the same would happen to him. For now, Gavin has to do everything he can to win Georgie back, and open himself up to the possibility of love, before it's too late.

I saw this one on NetGalley and it seemed right up my street, so I was so happy that I was approved. For the most part, The Most Eligible Viscount in London was a quick read, and enjoyable. However, I finished the book only an hour or so ago, and I've already started to forget parts of the plot line. I liked Georgie, and her independence, and her sheer grit not to settle for anything less than she deserved. Gavin was a nice hero too, sometimes reminding me of a Darcyesque character, with how emotionally stunted he was, but how invested in the relationship he was too. I really enjoyed the three dowagers all playing their parts behind the scenes in order to get Gavin and Georgie together, but other than that, the book was a little bland, and not much really happened. There was a house party at a neighbour's. and our main couple couldn't find any moments to be alone, a potential kidnapping, and a second potential love interest, but nothing felt really substantial. I did like the book, and am glad I read it, but I won't be rushing to re-read it any time soon.

Gavin, Viscount Turley got down on his knees to propose to Georgie, only that his proposal sounded more like a business arrangement than a marriage one, it lacked sentiment which was why Georgie refused it.

Now he must find a way to make her believe that a marriage between will be everything she would need, even if he can't say that he loves her. All Georgie wants is a marriage based on love, when Gavin says everything but that he loves her, she leaves London in order to clear her head.

A second chance to court her presents itself during a county dinner party and he is determined to attend and not waste it. While spending time together, with the help of a group of determined and well wished ladies, they discovered new qualities about the other.

The romance is a slow burn, which gives them time to get to know the other in a new way. The courting was very entertaining to read, with a lot of details about the process which could be helpful for someone who hasn't read many historical romances.

There were a number of POVs from different characters, it was helpful in a way to understand their action but they also slowed down the book's progress.

I'm sad to say I did not enjoy this book. I just felt very bored while reading. The book opens with Georgie turning down a marriage offer. Gavin the love interest is upset about it and the entire time I'm asking myself " but why is he upset, Why does he want to marry her". It was just very slow, I didn't feel any chemistry between the love interests. Overall it just fell very flat for me and I'm disappointed about it.

Will he let his past impede his future ...

Like the previous book in this series, it is a slow moving tale, more a reflection about one wants.
And while the story begins with the heroine rejecting the hero because he is unable to speak the three L words, I wonder if any were really in love with one another.
They liked the facade the other presented to the world but did they really know the person behind it.
Georgie is all prim and proper when in the city, conducting herself as society expects her to. Kind there, polite here. But her true self is left behind.
Gavin is her perfect counterpart, doing his duty to his title, certain to have found the perfect viscountess.
Yet none knows the real one hiding under their ton’s clothes.
He could have looked elsewhere after being refused, which is the usual way in their society, but the sparks between them tell him there could be more if he can convince her. She was ready to explore other possible options rather soon after, so was she really in love.
It is their close proximity outside the polished surroundings of the city that will help them getting to truly know and understand one another.
And from there, they tilt the balance.
It is a story of few actions, following their steps from tea rooms to country parties, with many meddling characters who like to interfere.

There is in the background a second romance, and I confess I was more intrigued by them than the main characters, the fellow guy has a bad reputation, yet he appears more a victim and a true villain, he looks like torn between his wants and his lack of power to make them come to fruition.
And his “love” interest was also intriguing, outspoken and decided.
They would have been great main characters.

This was a great and lighthearted story with a ‘sweet’ romance.

Gavin and Georgie have been courting for over a season and she is expecting him to propose. When he does propose, he fails to mention that he loves her and doesn’t respond when she asks him if he does. Georgie declines the marriage proposal but is not yet willing to give up on Gavin. She plots with her friends and grandmother to try to win Gavins heart.

Gavin believes he can’t love a wife because of what happened to his father when his mother died. His friends can see that he is in love with Georgie and try and help him see what he can’t.

A trip to the country and spending time with each other help them to get to know each other but only when Georgie’s life is at risk does Gavin finally realise he has loved her all along.

I enjoyed this and will definitely read more in this series and by this author.

The Most Eligible Viscount in London is Gavin Turley. At the beginning of this novel, Gavin botches his proposal to Miss Georgie Featherton. Georgie wants to wed Gavin, but she also longs to hear grand declarations of love. Those were missing from Gavin's laundry list of reasons they should be married. Jilted, Gavin is sad. Georgie leaves town. Gavin follows with his tail between his legs.

This book falls to the too often used hero trap of, "I've seen how love hurts and I will never love." What this book doesn't do is make me feel the love grow between Georgie and Gavin as the story progresses.

There were too many scheming relatives; too many characters (assuming many of them have their own stories in this author's interconnected world). Very little time spent with G and G together, and their chemistry just wasn't there.

The story, as a whole, was bland. There was too much talking that went round and round and didn't move the plot around. Too many descriptions of the colors and decor of the rooms the characters were sitting and chatting in. Too many abrupt scene changes.

I had hopes of really liking this book. I wanted to read an epic journey and major declarations of love, but it was mediocre at best.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book. The thoughts and opinions are my own and freely given.

The attention to details in this book blew my mind. The story was sweet. I haven’t read any other books in this series, but I think it would be better to read in order. There were a lot of people and background stories involved and it took a lot to keep up with. A good light hearted, feel good romance.

The Most Eligible Viscount in London
Book 2 in the Lords of London Series
Rating: 2 stars
Thank you to the publisher for the ARC given through NetGalley for review. All opinions are my own.

The Most Eligible Viscount in London started off with a failed proposal, which is rarely seen and I was excited to see how Gavin was going to change Georgie's mind in to accepting his marriage proposal.
Sadly this one fell flat for me. I was bored for most of the story. Gavin and Georgie spend most of the book apart. Also the amount of characters involved in trying to bring them together was a little overwhelming for me. I admit I have not read the first book in the series, but still I kept meeting new characters that really didn't bring much to the story.
There was hardly any romance because when the book starts they have been together for almost a year ( I think? Not quite sure) I would of liked to have seen them meet and get to know each other and understand why Georgie fell in love with Gavin and assumed he loved her too.

**The cover is beautiful though! I loved the colors.**

Love does not always bloom during the london season… for our two heroes two, falling in love involves having delightful horse rides in the countryside, discovering each other minds and spirits, bonding over breakfast food and sharing passionate moments in a follie…

Ella Quinn wrote a delightful romance set in the countryside during a quiet season and took advantage of that scenery to paint an exquisite scenic setting for our romance heroes to fall in love. The various castles and mansions descriptions fill you with dreams of Forde Abbey House and Chatsworth… You suddenly crave some kissing and love making in a follie, feel the urge to browse all the V&A dresses for that perfect horse riding outfit and enjoy the smell of nature during the october months…

In this seducing world, Georgie and Gavin chase each other and play the game of guessing if the other one is indeed truly in love. If the two characters appear very young and spontaneous sometimes, the idea of their romance is really more mature. It’s not often that the love at first sight trope is challenged in historical romances but it feels refreshing to have a heroine helds her high standard and requires true and profond love, enticing Gavin to truly talk to her, be curious and learn who she is and not who she seems to be after only a few dances and nights at the opera…

To conquer Georgie, Gavin requires the help of aunties and grandmothers! Those ladies were so delightful and their role in plotting two romance stories added a funny comedic side to the story. It also brought back fond memories of the theater plays written by Marivaux as i do love a romance themed with games and battles analogies.

“This is not a battle.”

“No, my dear friend, it is a war.” Henrietta raised her chin. “One which you, with a bit of help from your friends and family, will win.”

Georgie had never thought of waging a war against Lord Turley, but the analogy was apt. There were times when one had to fight for what one wanted in life. And she did want this love and a chance to be his wife.

Two little things bothered me. The first one was the sudden drama that happened to set things in motion towards the end. Something was needed for Gavin to realize his feelings and puts aside his fears but the event was a bit too forced for my taste. The second and true regret was the lack of development of the side romance story of Aurelia and Marc (i really wanted to see what they were talking about and their first kiss)… Lord Lytton’s character did not always feel the best it could have been and those romantic scenes between him and Aurelia would have helped to give some depth to the character. Or it might simply be that i did not read the previous book and lacked some context on his story. Or it could also be a simple case of falling for a villain romance hero growing into a sweet one…

The story also raised my curiosity about Adeline and Frits, who were the most adorable extremely married couple and official chaperones (or should i say commanders of the love battlefield) and i simply want their romance for myself!

This was my first time reading Ella Quinn and i am eager to discover more of her romances! I honestly am so heart eyes for the covers of her books and this one was gorgeous (although the title was a bit off...)

In all honesty, i can’t conclude this review without mentioning the issue of introducing a cat and for him to be massively underused (why) and it felt even more wrong when he is named Sebastian (!!!)

After months of courting Miss Georgiana “Georgie” Featherton is thrilled when Gavin, Viscount Turley, the man she loves, drops to one knee and proposes – but the proposal is lacking emotion, so instead of answering his question, she asks if he loves her and when he doesn’t reply, she rejects his proposal and leaves the room without another word. Heartbroken, she reveals all to her grandmother and agrees to leave town for a bit. While visiting with her dear friend Adeline Littleton – whose husband Frits just happens to be Gavin’s best friend, she is invited to a house party and figures if Gavin doesn’t love her, she must get over her broken heart and hopefully find someone who will.

Gavin is stunned, he believed that Georgie was receptive to his suit and didn’t expect her to want a love match. Gavin likes Georgie and knows she would be the perfect wife – and if he could love anyone, he would love her. But after watching his father fall apart after losing his love, Gavin is not willing to risk his heart. So while he would happily give her the world, love is not something Gavin can give to her – or any woman. He wonders if there is any way, he can convince her to change her mind and when he learns she has gone to a house party with eligible young men, he takes the advice of his friends and goes after her. He ends up staying with Frits grandmother and her friends – who agree to “help” him win Georgie.

This was a very well-written book with a lot of potential to be an amazing story – but for me – it was boring. There are a lot of characters and the author set up many plot points that could have made this an exciting read, but each point was shot down before it could take flight – leading to a book with almost no conflict, drama, or passion. Overall, I found this to be a very vanilla read – pleasant but bland with nothing to get excited about and it is definitely not a book I would read again. This is the second book in the series, but it could easily be read as a standalone title.

Let me begin by saying that this was a very well written story. And I enjoyed being able to reconnect with some of the characters from her prior novels. The problem I had with this was the fact that not only were there A LOT of prior characters making a comeback (even when they didn't seem to add much to the overall plot), but I never really bought that Gavin changed his mind about loving Georgie.

I felt this way in part, because even the scene that seemed designed to bring them together, for me at least, fell utterly flat. Which was disappointing because I think had a few things been executed differently, there was the potential for that scene to have a much greater impact on the story. I also feel like showing right off the bat that any other potential suitors at the party were quickly taken out of play, took away some of the angst and drama that this story could have had.

Speaking just to Gavin and Georgie, I wish we could have seen more of their interactions. I feel like the spent a lot of time either thinking about what they wanted, or talking to other people about what they wanted than actually talking to each other. I also found it a bit off that Gavin had courted Georgie for so long, yet didn't seem to understand that he felt he couldn't afford to fall in love. That seems like a big thing that would have come up before his botched proposal.

In the end, I believe that this story will still appeal to those who enjoy slow burn historical romances (especially ones with as much detail as this one had). I would read more from this author!

When Gavin Turley proposes to Georgie Featherton, she is beyond delighted. However, her happiness is squelched when his proposal sounds more like a business proposition than a declaration of love. To make matters worse, when Georgie asks Gavin if he loves her, Gavin remains silent. Georgie, who wants to marry for love, refuses Gavin’s proposal and leaves town. Gavin determines to find her and convince her to marry him but knows he will never love anyone. Will Gavin realize his true feelings before it’s too late?

This is a quick and enjoyable read with fun characters and witty dialogue. It’s clear that the main characters, Gavin and Georgie, are in love with each other, but Gavon’s internal conflict stands in the way. He has to face his feelings and his preconceived notions of love before he can fully embrace a future with Georgie. As they get to know each other, they realize how well-suited they are, but doubts and fears threaten their happily-ever-after.

I found many of the secondary characters charming and interesting, especially the older, meddlesome dowagers. They are observant, astute, and not opposed to influencing the lives of those they love. I love how they work together to bring Georgie and Gavin together, as they seem to know what’s best for the couple more than Georgie and Gavin do.

Overall, this is a quick and light regency romance with a sweet love story. However, parts are a bit slow, and I wish that some of the characters were fully developed. I think readers who enjoy historical love stories will enjoy this book. Thanks so much to NetGalley, Zebra, and the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Wow! This book is so good! It is entertaining, romantic, and hooks you from page one! Whenever I picked up "The Most Eligible Viscount in London", I was whisked away to Regency Era England, and went on quite the adventure with this love story.

This is the first book I have read by Ella Quinn, and I can't wait to read more! She truly knows how to bring a story to life, and her characters spring to life right off of the page. I can only imagine the amount of research Ms. Quinn must have done, as each moment felt very authentic to the era.

Georgie has been hoping for quite some time that Gavin will propose to her. When the moment finally arrives, it is not in any way what she was expecting or hoping for. His words lack romance, and, to Georgie, it seems more like a business proposal than a proposal of marriage. Wanting a love match, and unwilling to settle for anything less (rightfully so!), she turns him down, even though it hurts her. Never could either of them have imagined what happens next, nor, how others who care so deeply for them both will help them come together. You will have to read to find out what happens!

If you enjoy historical romance, I highly recommend this book! I can't wait to go back and read the previous book in the series, and am eagerly awaiting the next one as well! I hope we see many of these characters again as well!

Thank you so much to Kensington (Zebra) Books for the ARC of this book, I enjoyed it! All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

The Most Eligible Viscount in London was a chore to read, and I don’t know if I would have gotten as far as I did if I hadn’t started it at the tail end of the 48-hour readathon event.
For one, I had been warned by a friend who read it before me about the use of the term “g*psy,” a word a non-Romani person should not be using. And the context of it was so ridiculous, as it’s applied to some weird treasure hunt at a house party the characters are attending. The hero and heroine get to virtue signal like, “as long as we’re not actually hunting g*psies,” and then the lady of the house explains it by the fact that her and her friends’ mothers purchased items from the nearby Romani camps and made the children search for them. Isn’t that kind of appropriative or something like that? It felt in bad taste for a book published in 2021, as even if it is a historical romance, you’re writing for a modern audience. And the author seems to want to have her cake and eat it, as there are more of these weird oddly forward thinking virtue signals, like the women expressing a desire to want to vote or have a seat in the House of Lords. It’s funny how the story tries to seem so progressive, yet includes unchecked bigotry.
I could perhaps have partially forgiven this weirdness if the story had been good. But it decided to take one of my least favorite plot devices and make the entire book about it. Gavin proposes to Georgie, but she refuses him because he doesn’t love her. Fine, they haven’t engaged in anything with consequences yet, which is why I typically hate this plot device.
And thank God they didn’t by the time I finally gave up. But the story didn’t progress much in any way. They seemed to have less and less time together as the book wore on. I was constantly questioning why we were here and I really didn’t care if they ever worked out (and of course they do, it’s a freaking romance). But the conflict was pretty much pointless, because of course he does love her, he’s just another hero who made himself detached “because of his past.”
Not to mention all the characters showing up, a lot of them from previous books in Ella Quinn’s interconnected universe. Some of them were fun to see again, but I just didn’t care, and they were just intruding on the story.
After this underwhelming offering, the second in a row from Ella Quinn, I would have been skeptical about trying her again even without the more problematic elements. Those elements are enough to make me swear off her work altogether.

This wasn't a bad book per say. The short and sweet of my issues are that a) I was incredibly bored. And b) I could not bring myself to care about these characters.

The bigger issue is this: The plot had the potential. But once the beginining scene was over I felt like neither hero or heroine did anything to get what they wanted. The hero was like "I'll just keep mansplaining to her why I'm the best choice." and the heroine was "Oh woe is me! He doesn't love me!!" Um ma'am do you really love him? because I couldn't tell. There was no tension between them. It made her feel like a foolish young girl who decided she deserved love. But it goes both ways sis. So basically a whole lot of nothing happened until like 80% into the book.

I read the previous book in this series and struggled with that one as well. I'm starting to think its just the authors writing style that isn't for me.

2.5 stars that I rounded up to 3 for reasons.

In this second-chance historical romance, Viscount Turley must win back the heart of the woman he loves after breaking it during a marriage proposal.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Ella Quinn is the right author for me. I’ve read two books in this series and unfortunately, both of them were just really frustrating. Both main characters in this installment were a tad annoying, and I didn’t connect with either one. There were some enjoyable moments, but overall, it was very much an average read for me.

Content warning for attempted kidnapping, sexual content.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Kensington Books/Zebra for the ARC of The Most Eligible Viscount in London by Ella Quinn.

I really enjoyed The Most Eligible Viscount in London. This is book #2 in The Lords of London series and my first Ella Quinn novel. I didn't feel like I missed anything and the story was easy to follow. The characters were fun and I will definitely read more from E.Q. in the future!

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC.
