Aunque me gustó más el primer libro de la serie, esta nueva entrega sigue manteniendo la diversión, los chistes malos-buenos, el gamberrismo y el espíritu punki. Leeremos la tercera entrega seguro.
Even if I liked more the first book of the series this new installment maintains the fun, the good-bad jokes, the naughtiness and the punk spirit. You can bet we'll read the third book.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
***AUDIO BOOK VERSION*** The Garbage Pail Kids Thrills and chills is the 2nd book in this fun and gross series by the amazing R L Stine. I loved these as a child and this brought nostalgia back for my childhood. R L Stine was one of my favourite point horror writers and when I saw this book on netgalley I jumped at the chance to listen to it. The narrators were fabulous and made the book funny and entertaining to listen to! In this book we meet a cast of characters (all gross!) who are competing against Good Boy the perfect chihuahua of the Perfect Twins. Give it a listen especially if you want a trip down memory lane or are feeling a little fed up, it's sure to cheer you up!
A huge thanks to Blackstone Publishing for my audiobook arc in exchange for an honest review. I totally loved this audiobook as the narrators were hilariously amazing and kept me laughing. If you are having a bad day grab this audiobook (it’s only 3 hours long).
This book is about the Garbage Pail Kids who are desperate to win the Smellville Pet Contest and have to compete against Good Boy, the perfect Chihuahua of the Perfect twins
While I always (usually) enjoy R.L. Stine's Goosebumps and Fear Street books, I didn't connect so readily with the Garbage Pail Kids' story. As their name implies, these kids are incredibly gross! (LOL) It was fun to pick up a book in Stine's newest series to see what he's writing these days.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a free copy in return for an honest opinion.
This is just a fun series to share with the kiddos in my life. My sister loved RL Stine books as a kid, and we used to collect GPK cards. This is the perfect series combining both of those so that she can share them with my niece and nephew. Fun series, lots of gross moments and childhood memories.
It's unfortunate that Stine isn't as well-known for comedy books as he is for chillers. His Rotten School series is really top notch, with tons of witty gags and clever situations. The Garbage Pail Kids trilogy is likewise a riot of low-brow humor that's as laugh-out-loud worthy for adults as I'm sure it is for kids.
I actually enjoyed this second book in the series even more than the first. The first is a little heavy on gross-out humor, while this one is more driven by puns and kids getting into various mishaps. The 'episodes' of failed superheroes are as epic as ever. There's a high concentration of humor for such a short book. I'll definitely be back to read the third book soon.
I'm a little dissapointed to have found an error as noticeable in the first few pages of this book as the one I found. Even if it was intentionally done, the fact that Adam Bomb didn't call out the Perfect twins gives an air of falseness to the scene that just didn't sit right with me. The rest of the story went as expected when you're dealing with the GPK. There's five new kids added in this one which naturally means even more weirdness. This is definitely a fun read for tweens who are still trying to find their reading niche. It's also a great read for us 80's kids who grew up with both R.L.Stine and the Garbage Pail Kids. I give this book 4 of 5 Paws and look forward to the final book in this nostalgic trilogy.
For the second title in this series, I tried it out on audiobook and I liked it even better in that format. The audiobook is full cast, so each character has a different voice. Plus it incorporates sound effects and background music. It is also very well done. I find the GPK books a bit repetitive, but for the age group in which they are written, they should be. The audiobook takes away the tedium of repetitiveness. In this book the kids get a Hippo that escaped from the zoo, enter the best pet contest, and try to go to an amusement park. This book is full of thrills and laughs that young chapter readers are seeking.
My daughter and I listened to this Audible book together as we did the first book in the series. We chose Audible instead of print because there are are several different narrators for this book and it really adds to the level of fun! We both equally enjoyed it and have listened to it twice before posting this review. We do 30 minutes before bed a few nights a week, so it takes awhile. We each have other books we read as well. These are wonderful , we enjoy them and already preordered the third book on Audible due out October this year.
I would give this 2.5 ⭐ but my son says 3 stars so I'll round up. I read this with my 11 YO son who is a huge fan of RL Stine. We both agreed this book wasn't quite as good as the first book in the series. It was still good enough that he will read the next book when it comes out.
This is the absolute worst. No plot, terrible characters and no humor (imo). I'm only putting this in because I want this book to count towards my Goodreads goal - even though I wish I hadn't read it.
