Book 3 in the Fox & Rabbit graphic novel series is full of surprises
Fox and Rabbit are cooking up something very special for Sparrow’s birthday! Sparrow loves food, so Fox and Rabbit team up with Owl to create the world’s biggest pizza. But since they don't have the world's biggest oven, they don’t know how to cook it. Fox and Rabbit decide to ask for help from Dragon. They’ve never met Dragon (who hopefully likes to eat pizza, not foxes or rabbits . . .), so they find their courage together. Dragon wants to help but has never eaten pizza. In fact, Dragon has never had a friend or been to a birthday party before, either. It’s up to Fox and Rabbit to change all that! This third outing in the Fox & Rabbit series from Beth Ferry and Gergely Dudás celebrates the ways in which differences can bring friends together.
Beth Ferry is the author of the picture books Stick and Stone and Land Shark. Her family has cared for myriad pets, including two land sharks, a hedgehog, a blue-tongued skink, and a heap of hamsters, but her absolutely perfect pet is an English bulldog named Winston. She lives in New Jersey.
Children's graphic novel. I have enjoyed the first two books in this series and that continued with this third book. This book can stand alone though, while the characters are recurring the stories do not refer back to earlier ones. There are 5 chapters in this book: Fix, Fuss, & Flies; Party, Pizza, & Plans; Daring Dragon Days; Birthdays, Best days, & Best Friends; and Wonder, Wish & Wow. Fox starts out by deciding to become fix-it-fox for the day, searching out problems that he can help the other neighbors fix. While his methods are untraditional, he does ultimately end up helping fix a busted doorbell, a clogged sink, a squeaky door, and a fly problem. After that, the focus turns to Sparrow's birthday. It's all hands on deck to plan a special day centered on Sparrow's favorite: food! But how can they cook the giant pizza they are making. This question leads them to befriend a local dragon, who indeed cooks the pizza in 52 seconds. Another joyful book that has the added benefit of chapter divisions to help beginning readers feel successful.
First sentence: Good morning, Fox. Good morning, Rabbit.
Premise/plot: Fox and Rabbit star in their third beginning reader graphic novel, Fox & Rabbit Celebrate. There are five interconnected stories: "Fix, Fuss & Flies," "Party, Pizza & Plans," "Daring Dragon Days," "Birthdays, Best Days & Best Friends," "Wonder, Wish & Wow."
Sparrow is about to have a birthday. Fox and Rabbit want Sparrow to have the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER. Since Sparrow loves, loves, loves to eat--they think the best birthday will include the YUMMIEST food. They decide on having the BIGGEST PIZZA EVER. But who will bake it....and how?
Enter a new character--and a lovable one--DRAGON.
My thoughts: I love, love, love this series. I do. I love the relationship between Fox and Rabbit. I love the other characters as well. Dragon is such a fun addition! Sparrow, as always, is super relatable! As is Tortoise.
Fox and Rabbit celebrate I day in which Fox becomes Fix-It for the day and "helps" others in the area fix things around their houses. Then they start prepping for Sparrow's birthday and plan to make a huge pizza as a surprise, which requires enlisting the help of a dragon. But will the dragon help, and will the party be a success?
The first little adventure in which Fox fixes things is a little eye-roll inducing, but it does turn out to have unexpected benefits to the community later. I liked the party planning and their interactions with the dragon. Overall, it's cute in both illustrations and the plot line.
More adventures for Fox and Rabbit! Look at all of the exciting things that happen - Fox decides to become Fix-it Fox! And he sets about repairing - or sort of repairing -- or maybe breaking and then repairing -- many things for the neighbors! Also - Sparrow has a birthday! Which means it is time for a huge pizza. And a new friend. Because who else is going to cook a gigantic pizza but a dragon? Who has never ever ever had a birthday or a friend. Plus Sparrow's birthday wishes comes true. But shhhh! Don't tell what the wish is!
These are so cute. If you have a Narwhal and Jelly fan, be sure to introduce them to Fox and Rabbit.
Fox and Rabbit want to make Sparrow's birthday special by making the biggest, yummiest pizza in the world. But how will they cook it? They ask Dragon for help, and find out Dragon does not know what a birthday party is since he has never been invited to one. Fox and Rabbit invite him, he cooks the pizza, and makes lots of friends. All the animals work together to make the party special.
Graphic Novel Fox and Rabbit are back and finding ways to celebrate together and with other friends. They even befriend a dragon and celebrate his birthday too. Clever illustrations with fun details support the text to bring readers in to join the fun.
This is the sweetest set of stories, and I can't wait for the first two in the series to come in on hold! (I legitimately teared up as I was reading it out loud to the kids, and they all gave me puzzled looks.)
More fun adventures with Fox and Rabbit, this time their adventures revolve around celebrations. Love the addition of the dragon as a new friend, and the geodes in the rock garden.
Aww! Fox & Rabbit's whimsical and gentle adventures engage readers and strike just the right tone. This book is a lot of fun and introduces a sweet new character, too.
These Fox & Rabbit stories are just so sweet, and this was the cutest volume yet. I love how they're rounding out the friend group, first with Owl in Vol. 2, and now with Dragon.
A new creature joins the gang in this third instalment. This one really tugged at the heart strings. Although having a Chamber of Cheese like Mouse, isn’t such a bad idea. 🧀🧀
“Yowzers! That’s the most amazing hots-and-heats-a, what-a-treats-a, I-must-eats-a amazing pizza!” Made R giggle so much I had to read it back to him so many times!
Another fantastic book in this series! Fox is too funny trying to fix things and how lovely to invite Dragon to Sparrow's party and ends up making friends and celebrating his own birthday. Owl is back and so Turtle (love that he gets to be more involved as well). I love the Fox and Rabbit version of the "American Gothic" painting.
