3.5 stars. Beautiful bright illustrations show a cat’s eyes view of the world. This cat is lost and then found by some kind adoptive humans. The illustrations are endearing without being cutesy. I enjoyed the images of the cat and the large thighed humans viewed from below. A simple tale but a comforting one.
From debut picturebook illustrator, Alexandra Mîrzac comes the story of a cat who, feeling unloved by his owners, decides to venture into the city 'hoping to find someone to play with'. Soon the owners, having been lost in their technological world, realise that their beloved pet has gone. Posters are placed up around the city and the hunt to find Cat begins.
With a mixture of pencil and collage (from early pencil sketches), Mîrzac's illustrations are bold and beguiling. Cat is sharp yet curved and rounded and the use of strong blacks and blues to separate him from the human world is excellent. Double-spreads of city-scapes with minimal colours and the use of perspective give that feeling of Cat being small and out of his depth similar to Deacon's work in Beegu.
I thought this was a beautifully imagined story of lost and found with captivating illustrations.
Quite charming, especially in the beginning. I really felt the anxiety and the fear that cat was experiencing, buuut the end came a bit too abruptly and i was dissatisfied with the solution found by the author. The illustrations are done in that minialistic style that is all the rage today, but they work.
Bold illustrations with a colour palette of red, blue, white and black cleverly tell the story of Cat who feels unloved and invisible but who is actually adored and deeply missed when he goes off on an adventure. Cat's voice is perfectly recognisable (for any cat owners or slaves out there). The message is to not take family members (or anyone else for that matter) for granted as without you meaning to, you can make them feel unwanted.
A wonderful book for an adult to read to a child & to get them to pick up more context clues from the artwork : which is gorgeous, engaging, and drawn from such a curious angel that it is engaging to the viewer. A sweet story if a child has ever lost an animal & found it or has felt lost & been found.
