Mutha: Stuff and Things

Rate this book
A collection of irreverent and poetic short works from legendary actor Vincent D’Onofrio

This is not a story woven around plot, characters, and contrivance. Rather, it is what acclaimed actor Vincent D’Onofrio’s mind produces when on idle, when he is not thinking about servicing a story. His words are, in the purest sense, ideas that fall unexpectedly upon his head, “like an apple from a tree—dropping all at once,” though less about gravity and Newton’s apples, and more about levity. D’Onofrio’s thoughts and images—presented here in all their uninhibited glory—are humorous, honest, abundant, raw, and unfiltered. And all exceedingly enjoyable. The unique design—a paperback with flaps and Chinese binding, all contained in a full-color, hardcover slipcase—offers the book an artistic, collectible feel.

Just experience it! That's my best review!
THIS BOOK WAS NOT WRITTEN IT WAS SPEWED
How to review or grade the rants and thoughts inside this man's mind? Very highly entertaining and creative with the imagination of a kid inside the brain of an adult. Laugh out loud and perplexing with poems such as I'm a Mouse in a Red Dress and I Blame the Girl Scouts and their Frickin' Cookies. Musings such as " What if I had a secret and it mattered so much to you that your life would revolve around whether you ever found out what my secret is? It's a secret,"
and
Things that have been told to me by animals who don't speak or communicate. My favorite is, I'm a frog. Mind your own business. It is you who causes all the problems, I am a frog (shortened version) Way too cute and to the point! He hits todays issues with dry humor and quirkiness that I highly enjoyed. Awesome actor but I hope he keeps up the thoughts!! Fun book! Also has a great forward by his friend and coworker Ethan Hawke.

I don't know what about to think about this book so I am just not going to. I have mad respect for Vincent D'Onofrio. I mean his first film was Full Metal Jacket. Ethan Hawke is a major talent certainly. I loved him in Good Lord Bird but he never should have made a film about Blaze Foley. Blaze was just an awkward guy, nothing special. This makes about as much sense as the book does.

I bailed out of this one about half way through. Not very interesting and not very poetic

I didn't read all of this book. From the back cover: "This is not a story woven around plot, character, and contrivance. Rather, it is a book of words emanating from a mind on idle....D'Onofrio's thoughts and images - presented here in all their uninhibited glory- are humorous, honest, abundant, raw, and unfiltered. And all excedingly enjoyable." I agree that it is abundant, raw, and unfiltered. But not humorous, or the least bit. enjoyable. If you or I tried to get this writing published, an editor wouldn't look at more than half a dozen pages of it. But if you are already famous with some credible accomplishments as this author is, you can get a couple hundred pages of it published.

I don't even know how to describe this collection, but I couldn't put it down. Poetry, hypothetical musings, personal diatribes; the inside cover states This Book was not written, it was spewed. The line between fiction and self is blurred, the design of the book is hypnotic, and I am thoroughly impressed by what D'Onofrio has released. A complex, intriguing book from a complex, intriguing man. Plus, a gorgeous cover from the always amazing David Mack.

Has anyone else watched Vincent Donofrio’s acting in sheer wonder, trying to figure out if he is a genius or a psychopath? I have, and reading this book gave me more insight to lean toward psychopath (and stuff and things).

I enjoyed this book. It reminded me quite a bit of Henry Rollins’ writing (I’m a fan) and there are a few bits that were perfection. The photographs in the book were beautiful, and reading it was an enjoyable way to spend an hour.

I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was intriguing, funny, sad, despairing, hopeful and very fascinating. I love the poetry and the insight into Vincent D’Onofrio’s thoughts. A lot resonates with me and how the crazy world is. It’s also reaffirming that many of us have thoughts and ideas banging around in our brains and we’re not crazy for having them. Thank you Mr. D’Onofrio and Mr. Hawke for getting this published.

A little weird and a little wacky and perhaps just a little bit true. I was confused, I laughed, but ultimately I enjoyed spending a little time with Vincent D'Onofrio's mind.

I love all the off the dome, quirky spoken word statements. So D'Onofrio. Great ending with "Take a knee,...please everyone, take a knee"....
