This sensationalises actual historical battles by claiming ghosts were seen at the sites of massacre and such. It covers famous battles such as the Battle of the Alamo, Custer's Last Stand and the Battle of Okinawa, and also lesser known ones like clan and civil wars. There are some images - mainly paintings and a few photos - to accompany the text. The text is pretty gruesome. It describes in detail the horrors of war: from the actual killing process to the state of the bodies. The actual "haunting" part is really minimal. It's interesting to read not so much for the "ghosts" as for a glimpse into the more emotional side of war, sometimes recounted through diary accounts or first-person recollections of survivors. It's also educational as you get to learn about quite a number of significant battles that took place.
My daughter tore through this book! How can you not love tales of restless spirits rising from sunken ships and battlefield sites? I read it, too, loved it, and realized how many gaps there are in my knowledge of history. Fascinating read.
It is a gripping read about ghosts of those who fell during various battles throughout history. Each chapter begins with the story from the viewpoint of a soldier, and also tells about the battle. Although, it mostly tells about battles fought by the USA, it is still a good read.
