Depend upon it: a lucky guess is never merely luck.
Ember Woadley's life is perfect. Fresh off the success of a romantic match she orchestrated for a friend, she wastes no time planning her next project.
Her magical ability to sense others' emotions will help in this endeavor. After all, her subtle meddling does nothing but improve the lives of everyone around her. Forget what Mage Gideon Noughton says—he never likes any of her ideas.
When her father relapses into a mysterious illness, Ember's idyllic life is thrown into turmoil. Add in a delightful new friend, a charming rogue, and some magical misadventures, and Ember wonders if she's as in control of things as she always believed.
Things are about to get a lot more exciting in Highbury.
If you like your romance with a dash of magic and a few hijinks, then get ready for Ember, part of the Magical Regency series, which can be read in any order.
This was so good! I loved this one! Emma is not my favorite Austen but this was so different that I loved it, I loved the writing! It was so compelling. Ember is much easier to like then Emma. The Hero was amazing and the story a fun one. Adding the element of the mystery of her Father's illness was brilliant! This author has only written 2 stories and I just love her writing style. This is a sweet proper romance with some amazing moments and one kiss that was worth the wait!
Fine, I guess! Probably hued too closely to the original, despite the addition of magic. Didn't really get "Emma's" dislike for "Robert Martin" in this one.
Definitely some good Emma/Knightly moments though.
I almost skipped this one because I really struggle with Emma, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance! Ember is infinitely more likeable than Emma. This story was a fun twist on the original.
Emma has never quite been my favorite Jane Austen story purely because I have never really liked Emma (the titular character) that much. I will say that this book was so well written because it gave me a lot of the same feelings that Emma always has. Ember (as the Emma character in this story) still feels lik she knows best and asserts herself into the lives of the others while often acting superior and standoffish. I will say though that I felt Ember's change of heart as she sees all the pain she's been causing actually felt so much more genuine in my opinion than the original story. I really liked that slight different. Mage Noughton still gives me all the Mr. Knightley feels that I've come to love as the bright shining moment of Emma. There were some small changes to the plot but not so crazy that it took away from the overall feel of the book. This series has really been growing on me and I'm excited to read the next one which is based on Persuasion, which is one of my favorite Jane Austen novels.
Ember is the perfect magical equivalent of Emma, from Jane Austen's novel of the same title. However, this story made me cringe more. Ember delves deeper into the psyche of a person who feels themselves above others, and Ember's father is less annoying than Emma's. I would say that the book is more lively than its early counterpart.
It took me some time to get into this book as Emma is so familiar. But once I did, I couldn’t put it down. I loved how everything fell apart and came together. I felt like I could feel all the emotions of Ember.
At the beginning I was a bit "lost" with the names but you get used to them. The story grew on me and I like the different bits and bobs and how she realises her feelings and how those moments are explained.
Emma isn’t my favorite Austen I did like the little jab/reference to the first book in the series when Mrs. Wynton said Ember sounded like the name of a pet or a dragon. Kisses only.
