Sixty is not old, right? To celebrate turning 60, Dianne Young decided to spend the year doing 60 things she'd never done before. This is the story of her adventures--shaving her head, skydiving, visiting a nudist camp, and 57 other intriguing first-evers. It's funny, it's informative, and it might even inspire you to start your own list! Just don't try haggis. Seriously . Just don't.
While Dianne Young may have selected these 60 never-done-before things to do the year she turned 60, they're adventures everyone can enjoy. From trying out shaving her head then dying her hair purple (she wrote the picture book, Purple Hair I Don't Care!), to skydiving, to trying the new craze, throwing axes, there's a new experience for everyone from sixteen to ninety-six. And the best part, of course, is in her humorous approach to storytelling. She made me laugh until the tears streamed down my face, while thinking "I wonder if I could do that."
I loved this book. I saw an article about this book in the news and since I knew Dianne back in the day (I worked at the Martensville library and she was a constant volunteer) I knew I would read it. I didn’t know she lost her husband, which is sad, but I did know she was more adventurous than I. Heck she read Harry Potter as a woman. Let’s just say that she is a great sport and she did so many things that I wouldn’t dream of doing. And thanks for the tip on Haggis Dianne. I won’t ever try it myself. 😊
Dianne's book is funny and engaging. How many of us dream of doing things but never get around to it? I'm inspired that she did SIXTY new things in one year. Some are fairly ordinary and others are a bit crazy, but they were all fun to read about.
