This is an interesting book, interesting enough to read to the end, but I can't really say I liked it. A rather vile man decides to live alone in a sack in rural Georgia, avoiding people as much as possible, but when a woman on horseback needs rescuing, he rescues her -- and eventually kills her. And the story gets more bizarre after that when he encounters the woman's maid, a voodoo priestess. The story moves right along (despite being overwritten in places) but is just left a bad feeling in my gut.

Strange, but interesting novel about an adventurer who decides to settle and live a solitary life in the swamplands of Georgia. He eventually rescues a woman in distress and his life spirals out of control after he kills her. Recommended.
