Calisthenic Mindset and Exercise

I have read a fair number of books on exercise, and even a few on calisthenics. Despite the rather fearsome-sounding title, the author takes a surprisingly gentle mental approach to calisthenics (though the physical is not so gentle). He talks a fair amount about mindset and preparation, giving more allowances than is typically seen in a book like this. The book outlines a 6-month calisthenic program to help you increase your strength. The author first describes what the six months will look like in general, and then later in the book, lays out each month's routine. The author also discusses supportive ideas like eating well and getting proper sleep as well as certain pitfalls and problems and what can be done to overcome them. As with most exercise books, I find that the starting point would be beyond what a lot of people, especially older ones and/or out of shape ones, could do. I know I certainly couldn't start where the author suggests starting. But if you are already in decent shape, the increasing level of intensity of the exercises over the course of the six-month plan could help you build strength. You do already have to have a good sense of basic calisthenic exercises, as the author's description of the specific ones used is not detailed enough for a calisthenic novice. The book does have illustrations and photos, but they look like generic photo stock and aren't particularly helpful for understanding the exercises either.

2.5 rounded down to 3 because of explanations and photos/illustrations
