GAHHHHHHHH I can’t even explain how much I LOVED this volume.
Yan Xie and Jiang Ting are EVERYTHING and everything to me. My poor baby Jiang Ting I could never distrust you. I know you have something up your sleeve.
Okay okay okay. Where to even being.
Firstly if you’re reading this for the insane chemistry between Yan Xie and Jiang Ting well you’re in for a treat as our vice-captain finally gets a clue. I won’t spoil but straight? No more! Also shout out to his mother because why did she immediately catch on to Yan Xie’s feelings for Jiang Ting (from a video no less, and his father is convinced Yan Xie is jealous of Jiang Ting because of a girl) and whip out the gay marriage rights book. 😂 I need more of this women! She was like “Inma stop you right there… I think my son is gay”
Secondly, the PLOT. Oh hell things heat up. What starts out as a kidnapping for ransom turns into something much bigger and there seems to be a connection to everything that happened Jiang Ting. The big bad finally gets a name. I also love how the author slowly reveals the truth about their relationship with Jiang Ting.
Thirdly, the characters in general. Jiang Ting is my favourite- what can I say the insanely smart quiet ones get me- though I love Yan Xie. I was a little skepticial of Yan Xie because of how he constantly thought of himself as “straight” in book one, I expected him to be more reluctant but damn my guy just drives right in. Once he becomes fully aware of his feelings he doesn’t let Jiang Ting out of his sight. Litterally, he takes him to work some of the days which was hilarious 😂 Their banter: calling each other husband/wife is my favourite.
I just love how much he cares about him. Jiang Ting is taken back at first, manly because no one has EVER loved him or cared the way Yan Xie does. It’s so heartbreakingly sweet because I know with the over arching plot, trouble is coming, but I honestly believe they’ll get through it.
Jiang Ting has a whole load of trauma from childhood and his relationship with the big bad (not romantic more unwanted family ties) who told him no one would ever care about or believe him. Enter the most tenacious, infuriating, hilarious, wife protecting, billionaire vice captain Yan Xie, who is continuing to prove that motherfucker wrong!
Overall, I gotta go start volume 3!

Well, that was pretty impressive. The intensity in the last 100 pages or so was through the roof and I was pretty much gripped in place. Couldn't put it down no matter how hard I tried. Even my cat couldn't take my attention away from the book.
I thought this book was going to be mainly about side cases and stuff, I didn't expect the case they were trying to solve right now to be pulled back to the main event. And I was 100% on board with that, though there were millions of questions left to be answered. I seriously want to know a lot more about Jiang Ting. His past and how and why the mysterious dude seemed pretty much obsessed with the guy. They seemed to have some kind of history together and ooooooh, I'm really excited for the next book. There was this convo between the police bosses about Jiang Ting that had me startled. The way Yan Xie's boss described him as someone whose words couldn't be trusted and that he had this kind of talent that allowed him to convince people. And that pretty much painted Jiang Ting to be quite a grey character. I kinda suspect that there would be a lot more to this character and that statement might be a misunderstanding, but deep down I kinda wish that he stays grey to the end 'cause doesn't that sound exciting as hell? I mean I know Jiang Ting was very smart and that his detective sense was god-tier so I wish that his talent would be used in a more exciting and thrilling way than let it stay ordinary. I don't know if that makes any sense but oh well.
As for Yan Xie, fuck, the guy was cute as hell. I fell in love with his lively personality and the way he carried himself. Such an unserious and serious person all at the same time and I think that was what made him so special, and kinda unique in a lot of sense. Their romance started to blossom slowly and I'm excited about its direction given the current situation. By the way, I'm a sucker for romance and I usually read books that focus mainly on relationship and romances. So the fact that this story makes me equally excited about both the main plot and romance, which is quite a sub-plot here, at the same time is quite commendable. Kudoes for that. The action scenes were exhilarating as hellll oooooh im hyped. Aight im hooked now.
