Chronicles of Blood #4

Bloody Wonderland

Rate this book
The Queens have managed more success in the Second Purging than Mal ever intended them to have. Laddenworn itself is starting to bleed again, as it did when The Culling began centuries ago. Patches are being burned, Villages destroyed, Colonies demolished.
In the midst of the horror, Mal is determined to carve out a little bit of time with her men. Because if they can’t communicate, they’re not likely to trust each other. And if you can’t trust someone to have your back in a battle that will result in many deaths, their likelihood of succeeding is minimal.
But a betrayal comes where she least expects it and turns her entire world upside down. She finds herself a prisoner and her men are slowly tearing themselves apart in her absence. How is she supposed to fix Wonderland if she can’t even keep her men together - or get herself out of the steel grasp that holds her.
**This is a full-length new adult, reverse harem, dark romance novel with a #whychoose ending, meaning the main character gets a happily ever after with more than one man (eventually). It contains magic, demons, shifters, nonsense, explicit sex scenes, blood, violence, murder. There are references to past emotional abuse. This is a MMFMM book with a STRONG focus on the woman (although there is some MM and MMF in here, too). This is book 4 of 4 in the series.

Crea lives in upstate New York with her dog and husband. She has been writing since grade school, when her second grade teacher had her class keep writing journals. She has a habit of creating secondary, and often time tertiary, characters that take over her stories. When she can't fall asleep at night, she thinks up new scenes for her characters to act out. This, of course, is how most of her meant-to-be-thrown-away characters tend to end up front and center - and utterly swoon-worthy! Don't ask her how many book boyfriends she has...

When not writing, Crea is an avid reader. Her TBR pile is several hundred books high (don't even look at her kindle wish list or the unread books on her tablet). Sometimes, she enjoys crafting; sometimes, exploring nature; sometimes, traveling. Mostly, she enjoys putting her characters on paper and breathing life into them. Oh, and sleeping. Crea loves to sleep!

Bloody Wonderland by Crea Reitan is the fourth book in the Chronicles of Blood series. I thought this book would be the last one, and everything would be resolved. Oh, Boy was I wrong. HAHA. I'm now so excited for the next set of books to come out.

This book didn't end in a cliffhanger, so to say, but there were so many questions left unanswered. So many secrets yet to be revealed.

This series has been an amazing retelling of Alice in the Wonderland and so much better than I expected. It has hooked me up from the start, and I'm kinda sad to see it ending, at least for a while. I loved all of the unexpected plot twists and places I got to go too.

I love Mal and her men. Excited to see what's in store for them in the future. In this book, we had some additions and some losses, but I'm happy who all ended up in the harem.

This book had so many twists and turns. They kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, and I could put this book down once I started. There were so much action, secrets and steamy scenes. Loved how everything wasn't obvious from the start.

I would totally recommend this series to everyone and will be waiting for more.

I received a free ARC copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions are my own.

OMG....... I cannot get enough of Mal and her men! So sad to see this series end 😩 but cannot wait to find what’s next for these characters!! Fabulously unique retelling of Alice in Wonderland! From the beginning I was sucked into this series living it along side Mal as she learns to live in and navigate her new world that needs fixing. Many surprises await you in this last book but you will be wanting so much more by the end. Get ready for a rollercoaster of action packed steaminess that explores the ins and outs of Mal’s relationships with her men while plotting the end of the Red Queens. If you have not picked up this series then I highly recommended that you do! Amazingness!! 💜🖤

I love this series so much and I am so glad I found it and was able to join Mal and her men on their journey to defeat the queens and save Laddenworn.
This book made me cry in sorrow but also in happiness.

Mal and her coterie are successful in defeating the queens and ending their bloody reign over Laddenworn but there is still so much left to do and loose ends to tie up. The characters overcome so much and I think the spin-the bottle scene has to be one of my favourites of the series. That and the weddings.

These characters have worked their way into my heart, just like they did with Mal and I’m sad to finish this series. Thankfully their story is going to continue in the future so we’ll hopefully be seeing more of Mal and her men in the future.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

As the chronicles of blood reaches its conclusion and Mal finally ends the Bloody Queens Reign we are left with just as many questions as answers so if you were hoping this book would wrap everything up nicely with a cute little bow then your in for a shock. Although this is the last book in the series, Laddenworn is yet to be restored to Wonderland so Mals story is far from over and will continue with the Chronicles of Madness.

I’m so glad the author has decided to continue Mals story, there is just so much that has been left up in the air and I would have lost my mind to the madness had it just ended as it did.

I am having so much fun reading this series; Mal and her merry band of men are a lot of fun to follow through Wonderland. And Wally is one scary mother..
This book takes you all over the spectrum of emotions; there is love, betrayal, reassurance of love, loss and gains in the 4th book. Oooo and what you thought about one is Soooo wrong and now I feel bad.
I know that I want a Tove, am leery of flamingos and am seriously unsure of people with their mouths sewn shut.
This series could have ended with this book BUT then we would have so many unknowns and what if's.

I’m so relieved after reading the Author’s notes and acknowledgements! It’s always bittersweet reading the end of an amazing series especially one you’ve become so invested in. I absolutely love Mal and her men! I have to say I feel so dumb not figuring out something sooner than when Chesh mentioned it. And then there was the heartAche. Ugh. There were quite a few things I didn’t see coming and I loved that. There’s definitely more to learn! I can’t wait to read more by this author. Great series!

Twisted and dark telling of wonderland/ladderworn

Overall this supposed 4 book series was a dark, twisted and steamy RH. Disappointed that the story didnt conclude with this book but I sorta was expecting it with the plotline. The only reason I gave this 4 stars instead 5 was the angst between Eagy and Ryph seemed a bit contrived. In a group with 6 men that enjoy each other too, it was a bit much that Eagy expected Ryph to only be with him. I would definitely recommend this series. The Eagy situation detracts slightly from the story but there is so much more going on that more than makes up for it. At the end of this book Crea admits the characters took over making it necessary for continuing the story in another series of books. I can't wait to see how Mal gets Ladderworn back to Wonderland and adding her 7th to the harem.

Even better

This series is a knockout. Bloody wonderland is the best book yet. Mal and her men really get into the meat of the series. There is an open ended conclusion with a promise of more.

Fantastic

This is the fourth book in this series and I was still hooked start to finish. The characters are wonderful and unique. There are still plenty of surprise twists and plenty of spice. This was the final book of this series but not the last that we will see of Mal and her men. I’m looking forward to reading the new series.

Must read

Wow! I’m actually a little sad these have come to an end. The only positive is the next series that has been hinted at. Will definitely be reading that to check in on Mal and her Men. So many questions are answered but then some more have been raised. Once again you learn some back stories of the guys which makes you understand why they are they way they are. If you have read all other 3 books you need to read this one!

I don't want to give anything away with this review so I will keep it short. I thought this was a good ending to this series. The ending does leave a lot of questions but the author says she will have another series with everyone and answer all those questions. If you have enjoyed this series then you will like this book.

This was an enjoyable read that I finished in one sitting. It moves along at the perfect reading speed making for an enjoyable read. Has interesting and unique characters that you want to know more about and a story that will not let you down. This book needs to be read, no doubt about it.

I'm going to start this off and say that some readers may be disgruntled with the ending simply because it is a HFN instead of a HEA, but honestly, are you even ready to give up on this story? Of course you're not, so suck it up, buttercup! Does this ending leave a lot open and I answered? Yup! However, one of the main goals that Mal set for herself was accomplished, checked off the list, one small step for Mal, one giant leap for Mal-kind. So what does this mean? This allows more to be built onto the story later on. Yes, Crea promises to write a whole other series dedicated to these characters and Laddenworn's ever-growing problems, you lucky reader you! So any still lingering problems or quests will be answered or finished eventually, and that's something amazing to look forward to. You can't tell me that once you beat a game that you don't go back and complete all of the side quests that you missed. Who doesn't do that?! Anyways, with this book being the end of the story for now, you won't be disappointed in the progression of it at all. This fourth book proves just how messed up Wonderland/Laddenworn is and how truly strong all of Mal's men are...her as well. Mal even got a bit of a makeover, inside and out. Remember that bloody river from the end of the last book? Well, it wasn't so nice to Mal and definitely did a number on her. But good news, she's here and she's stronger than ever with her men at her side. Things to look forward to with this book (maybe spoilers? But not enough to give away major details): 1. Lede is back for part of it, so you get to understand him and his powers more as well as see Mal really make his brother furious and red in the face, 2. That whole Eagy-Ryph-Chesh issue finally comes to a head, you can probably take a guess on how that went...but it does result in some seriously needed opening up and emotional epiphany within the group, having them learn that emotions and showing emotions are not a weakness or a bad thing, 3. Something Lepa said previously actually comes true! Imagine that! Mal should have listened to the stupid caterpillar (but can you guess what it was? He does spew a lot of nonsense. I'll leave you to it), 4. TL makes up his darn mind. Finally. I'm sure a lot of people were waiting for that one to happen. I was cheering him on since he joined this merry band. Among these are so many other amazing, heart wrenching, crazy, stuck to the edge of your seat events, that you can't possibly imagine...unless your Crea, that is. There are so many surprising aspects in this series and in this book alone. You won't be disappointed by reading this in any way, shape, or form. What Crea did with this take on Wonderland is exceptionally captivating and will never leave your mind. I don't know about you, but I'm here for the long run. I'm just going to sit back, relax, and wait for the next series so I can continue loving up on Mal and her guys and finally see Wonderland restored to its original greatness..or maybe even better than it was before.

Missed the mark

Hmmm. I liked this series quite a bit through the first 3 books but I found myself skimming and ready for it to end in this one. Looking back, I don't actually think anything changed so much as I got sick of the same issues over and over again. This author is definitely talented at worldbuilding. The Laddenworn world is what has kept me reading. But her characters are flatter than pancakes. The harem was poorly balanced with Eagy and Ryph taking up waaayyy more than their share of Mal's attentions. I never actually felt any chemistry between here and any of her guys. Major relationship issues are just swept under the rug. It drove me bonkers how they never actually had meaningful conversations about anything. Overall, I was really underwhelmed by this book. I like the world enough that I'll probably read the next series through Kindle when it releases but I doubt I'll buy it outright. I'll keep reading this author because I think she has some serious talent and if she starts putting as much time and thought into her characters as she does her worldbuilding, it'll make for some incredible reads.

This series was nothing short of spectacular with exceptional world building and a unique, whimsical take on Alice in Wonderland. Mal, lots of guys and some fun surprises in this book made it a fun ending to this part of their adventure. Can’t wait to read the next part!

So finally finished the series and happy to see the characters come together and HEA. However, there are a lot of unanswered questions but glad to see there will be another series that will bring around some of those answers. This was a really unique take on Wonderland and really enjoyed it and how the author spun her tale. Takes a really interesting mind to work it the way she has. Great job.

There was a line of truth in everyone’s Madness. Because the Madness stemmed from truth.

We get right back into the action in this fourth book and it feels so good to be back with those amazing characters. The tension gets higher, we finally get a lot of questions answered, and a lot more left for later. I am so glad there is going to be another four whole books, because this world is so rich that it definitely deserves more exploring.
My love for Chesh and Eagy only ran deeper in this book. I simply adore them and what a pleasure it is to watch Eagy coming into his own and grow a fiery temper. I guess I have a thing for fire, I'll admit it.
I also love Mal’s spunk and she had me giggling quite a few times.
A soft ‘shhh’ met her ears. As if some lunatic holding her like a prisoner was going to comfort her.

What makes this series one of the best RH series I’ve ever read is the fact that every character has their own personality, their own quirks, but they all deeply care for each other and their interactions always ring true.
Crea Reitan’s story has made my heart race in a lot of different ways and I can’t wait for the next installment!

This series is just getting better and better! I was not sure it was my kind of thing when I started the first book, but I was thankfully very mistaken. It is packed full of drama and excitement, twisted version of the original. There is great world building where the reader is learning as the story unfolds along with Mal! There are twists and turns galore and a large number of colourful characters who are from the original and some who are not but all have their part to play, some surprisingly different to what is expected. The supporting cast are amazing and so different yet gem so well together. I have pretty much binge read these four books and had trouble putting them down in a way I have not had for quite a while. I really did enjoy this series and was very pleased to see that there will be more of Mal and her men in the future, this was one of those gems of a find of a series

I'm so sad that this is the final book in the series! There's still so much to know, the questions never seem to end. Despite that, it was another awesome book, just like the others. There was never a dull moment, always making your brain work to keep track of the names, places, stories. It's kind of refreshing.
The battle was exciting and terrifying at the same time, I just wanted everything to be over so that I could celebrate their victory and their happy ever after. And Mal's transformation? Damn I wasn't expecting that at all! It was super cool and so unexpected. Now I just have to wait for the next one, and hope to find some more answers ❤️

So many things were wrapped up in this book! Thank God the author mentions there will be a follow up book though cause as much as there were answers given there’s still a lot we have to find out for our characters. I really enjoyed this entire series, the characters were really dynamic and all fit in with each other in one way or another. I want to know what’s up with Ache and Adhem tho!!

Favorite new Alice in Wonderland Series

So I am a sucker for a good Alice in Wonderland RH. I knew exactly what other series Crea Reitan alluded in the books. This is definitely my favorite new Alice in Wonderland Series.

I am particularly in love with Wyatt and Wally.

I considered giving this a 1 star just for the ending...or lack thereof.
The only thing that kept me reading this series (besides my ocd) was to find out what all the mysteries were but no..access denied!!

The characters still annoyed me, at the end of book 4 we had barely any character growth. Mal and Eagy are still annoying and selfish and down right childish at some points

I can understand that sometimes a book can get too big for the author and to give it justice they have to extend it...but come on!
For the author to say that she knew halfway through book 3 that they weren't going to tie up all plot points and still added more just really annoyed me.

A whole new series with 4 more books to get answers that in my opinion could have easily been covered if half of the traveling from place to place was cut out. The whole plot was all over the place and contradictory.
But again it's just my opinion and one that looks to be in the minority as most people seem to love this series.
So suffice to say I won't be reading the follow up series, my ocd and need for answers aside.

End of the Blood Queens!

So this series has come to an end and a major plot line has concluded. The Bloody Queens have been eliminated so Wonderland can start healing. Even though this story arc is completed, there is still a lot left for Mal and her men which is to be continued in the spin off series which I am eager to start. This entire story and twisted fairy tale was incredibly complex and unique. I still have my own theories about the root cause of the issues with Wonderland but I will refrain from voicing them in fear of possible spoilers for other readers.

I really enjoyed the relationship drama that happened between 3 of her men in this book. It was an opportunity to showcase some typical behaviors and reactions we are familiar with in our own lives while seeing them repair the rift between them. I love seeing harems and relationships show that have real life problems just like we do abs not everything is rainbows, unicorns farts, and sunshine.

I am pretty intrigued by Mal’s real name which is Malice. Everyone knows the meaning of the word “malice” so I am curious to see if that will factor into the next series at all. It was definitely an interesting choice in name even if it is similar to the original woman found in Wonderland, “Alice”.

Incredible series that I recommend to anyone who enjoys RH, twisted tales, complex plots, and some MM. I will definitely be continuing to follow this author for any future work that comes from her.

Mal and her men are making their plans to end the Bloody Queens, unfortunately their plans are interrupted when she is kidnapped. While she does manage to get free her absence has caused a rift to develop between her men. Mal is still determined to put an end to the queens, but before she can do that she will have to find a way to fix her husbands' relationships. Their plans are made and the final confrontation is well under way when the Queen's forces manage to kidnap Mal. Fortunately for Mal, Queen Hart is intent on reading a never ending list of her crimes and this allows Mals' men the time they need to rescue her...
I can honestly say that I have read quite a few versions of this classic, but this is by far my favorite. Wonderfully well written, compelling, unique, and sometimes twisted characters. Some of them you cheer for. and others I found my self muttering off with their heads. Loved em. Swords, magic, paranormal, and sometimes strange creatures engaged in bloody and vicious battles. Plenty of surprising and unexpected twists in the plot that kept me engrossed from the first page to the last. I loved this book and this series.

Lots of drama

Rushed ending. It's confusing because the whole queen death was really blown over, like it happened and then there's nothing on it again. No one mentions it really. Like, what's going on with the people or the land or like anything... they just get married and start building a house while Mal complains about being forced to be Queen and how she's quitting ASAP. So many things left unfinished but I don't know I just seems like the writer lost interest in the story and just kind of... the end? I don't really get it. Where's her seventh husband? He wasn't even at her coronation or her wedding to the four but complete strangers were there. Where was he? And how is she going to quit being queen? Doesn't she still have enemies? How is she going to just go live in some little house in the middle of a forest as Queen even if she quits being queen she still has to have a bunch of enemies the Queen's she killed can't possibly be the only bad guys. There's a lot of other stuff too it's just really frustrating, like they're all just overlooking so much stuff... And then, the end...

I have absolutely loves this series! I also loved reading Bloody Wonderland. It is action-packed and a lot of rising tension.
I've loved the relationships that have been built and also how it is also a work in progress too. The major plot points have been resolved but also leaving some plot holes to be answered in the sequel series.
Either way after reading BW I am so stoked to dive right into The Search For Nonsense.

It's over

I'm sad to say this part of the story is over. With a load of questions left unanswered. But this part is over.

It's been an amazing ride and I can't wait to see what happens next and we definitely need to know who the .... never mind don't want to spoil the story just yet. Just know that even though the story is done its not over. And I am definitely jumping into the next story line in a hot second.

Loved it

I was new to this author when I started this series and I have to say that I'm now a big fan. The relationships and dynamics that were created roped me in and I found myself very invested in the outcomes. All in all I love the series so far and look forwards to the next series.
