When the sea goes silent…what waits within the deep?
It’s been two months since Cam learned she’s part siren and her world changed forever. With her mom back, she’s settled into a new routine on the tiny Maine island she now calls home: school, hanging with friends, and practicing her powers. Everything is great, and Cam means to keep it that way.
Except the sirens have stopped singing, and the pull to know why is as strong as the song itself.
Cam’s boyfriend warns her to be careful, but when she doesn’t listen, she and Macon are stolen away to the siren world. There they discover an ancient evil rising—one so powerful it threatens to destroy both worlds.
But if the sirens aren’t able to stop it, how will Cam? And why does it seem like Macon may hold the key?
The truth comes in waves, and more secrets will be unearthed in Landbound, Book 2 in the Watermarked Trilogy.
Danielle Butler has spent most of her life making up stories. From the rich and multi-layered lives of her Barbies and anthropomorphised stuffed animals, through her work as a long form improvisation and stage actor to development producing for film and TV—it was all about What Happens Next. American-made, she lives the exPat life in the UK with her husband and various pets in a little house on a very old river.
Danielle Butler has once again given us an astounding continuation from book.1. Waterbound. It was so easy to slip back into the soulfulness of Shell Island and change my reality back to Camline & Macon and the other islanders living there. I always feel like there are so many ancient secrets to be found, not just the characters storylines which absolutely suck you in just like the waves Cam now knows she belongs in, but it feels deep rooted even further down than that. Danielle Butler makes me feel every pull and push of each wave, I can smell the ocean and the skins Ellie treats, alongside with the pine trees giving everything a mystical and mysterious vibe with the wind blowing through my hair & I love it !! and an excellent talent for an author to achieve. Now I’m done mooning over the island, we will get back to the storyline, as I don’t like leaving spoilers I won’t be revealing much. This looks like it will be the biggest fight for Cam and Macon, not only for shell island but for the rest of the world as an unknown force wants to destroy the secret world of Araem. All these two wanted was time for their romance to grow and Just getting used to one world was still unreal, finding another alien one, as you can imagine is overwhelming! Cam had to make a bargain with her great grandmother and now her time is up, but can it ever involve not ! dragging other people into her problems with her! Her secret is out and it’s the one thing she was told never to reveal, but she is put into impossible situations. As this battle rages Macon is drawn into another world of his own, secrets and lies are unearthed in what seems like bad timing, however it seems his secrets may become helpful to everyone’s survival. I was so reluctant to finish this book, I wanted time to slow down so I didn’t have to, especially near the ending when I thought it was the end of the series, however it seems we are going to be lucky enough to join them again as a cliffhanger was left with yet again enough mystery & unfathomable questions that a subsequent event was coming that would result in more consequences for the inhabitants of Shell Island. Recommendation? Absolutely!! Danielle Butler has produced a series full of mystery, magic, mythical and full of unbelievable secrets in a world where she latches into your heart and soul in her reproductive skills that creates a world that will make you feel emotions so deep your whole world changes with her incredible writing abilities.
I loved this book! I pray there is a 3rd. The first one didn’t get really amazing til the end, this one was full of amazing. Amazing world building. Again, I really hope there is a 3rd!!!!
"You do not listen. I have told you. You cannot rush headlong into what you do not understand."
In this, the second book of the Watermarked Trilogy, it is a few months since Camline and her mother, Serena , have come back to Shell Island. Although she is now walking with a cane, Mom is much better, and Cam, Macon and Blue motor across to the mainland for school. But Cam still has that pull towards the sea and all it holds. Her salt cleared eyes see things sirens see and allow her some power over humans...but not Macon, he seems immune. And...Thomas, Cam's father has re-entered the scene, still oblivious to the whole truth of things
Then a power greater than anything else brings Cam and Macon into another world, one neither of them completely understand. Truths will be laid bare and relationships be made clear in the salt washed stories that are to be understood...or are they?
Author Danielle Butler has followed up on her first book, "Watermarked", with a continuation of the foundations of Cam's family and the interweaving of all the elements make for a fantastic tale, and the cliff hanger makes you hope she finishes the story quickly so we find out what and why past and present depend on each other in these lives. Highly Recommended, 5/5
[disclaimer: I received this book from the author and happily and voluntarily read and reviewed it]
So many lies and so many secrets. Frustrated and curious she can't stay away. Macon may not like what she is doing but he sure wont let her experience it alone. While it may have been months from the action in the last book there is still tons than have not been revealed to her inquisitive mind. Seeking her connection from the other world and the call of the ocean the two embark on a new adventure where their truths are revealed and the secrets are no longer.
This author comes back with the second book in the series and takes us further into the world of sirens. A world that while different from theirs opens up a can of worms they were not expecting. Plenty of action and excitement it's a fun story with characters that you'll love.
2nd book in a sequel to Watermarked continues the saga of Cam as she discovers her strengths and limitations to being a siren and how each play a roll in defeating the evil that lurks in the shadows of the sea. Lots of mystical, adventures in this one that leaves you waiting for the third one.
When I heard that the second part of the Watermarked Trilogy was out, I downloaded both Watermarked and Landbound immediately (both books are free on Kindle Unlimited). I loved the first book (both times I read it) and opened Landbound with giddy anticipation. I couldn't wait to see where the story would go. OH MY GOODNESS! The sweet coming of age story suddenly took on a complexity I didn't expect. Butler seamlessly weaves together several worlds and dimensions, and invites the reader along for the exploration. Cam passes as a normal high school student who lives on Shell Island with her mother and grandmother. She commutes to school on the mainland by boat, escorted by her boyfriend. He's one of the few who knows her secret. But when Cam accidentally reveals the truth about herself, she exposes those she loves to an evil she didn't know existed. Great book! Looking forward to the third volume!
