I opened up this book and wasn't planning on reading it today. I was just going to search for a scene at the beginning that the author had posted on her newsletter a week or so ago. I was very intrigued by that scene because it was just a little snippet and I needed to see what happened before it to understand it better. Well my plan to just skim and find that scene failed. IT FAILED MISERABLY!!!! Ok, I probably shouldn't say miserably because I wasn't miserable at all. Ha! I'm seriously sitting here giggling to myself about the whole situation. Like full on belly giggles people!

I was hooked and didn't realize it until I was halfway through the book. Good thing I didn't have much planned for today. *Face Palms Forehead!* I mean, how did that happen. Well, ok, I know how it happened so no smart quips back at me please. Hee Hee! I loved it! I couldn't stop laughing. The chemistry was amazing. Logan and Tessa...oh my!

And the best part...well, never mind. I'm not going to tell you because it would be a complete spoiler. The dinner scene and wardrobe malfunction had me bright red and dying laughing. Tessa isn't one to beat around the bush, she says it like it is. I love her no nonsense attitude. Sure she has lots of insecurities but I loved her for those and I loved her for being herself!

And Logan. Oh heavens. Don't get me started because the looks he'd send Tessa's way...sizzling. Yes to answer your question this is a clean romantic comedy. So the sizzle and chemistry is there but it's all clean. I loved how he was so good about Tessa and her insecurities and showing her that he liked her for her, for all of her, not just one little aspect.

I think I need to go back and reread this one again. It has definitely made it to my top 10 favorite Romantic Comedy reads! And the title, it all makes sense and makes such a cute part of the story. I giggled over it. Especially when Logan starts asking questions about a list. Oh my heavens, I laughed and I swooned. I can't deny it!

Content: Clean. There are some mild kisses and a couple passionate kisses and couple mild innuendos. Tessa works at a lingerie store so there is talk about lingerie but it is very clean.

The author was giving away copies to newsletter subscribers who had recently entered a competition. Thanks Michelle Pennington!!!! All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

August 2020--I listened to the audiobook this time, and I loved it just as much.

Oh. My. Goodness!! Hands down this is my favorite Michelle Pennington book. It's been awhile since I've laughed so much while reading. Every time I turned a page I was giggling or laughing out loud. I was warned by a friend that once I started this book I wouldn't want to put it down, and she was right. I started reading one day and finished it the next, it's the reason my math schoolwork wasn't finished until Saturday. It was totally worth it.

Tessa is the head of HR for a lingerie company, and is talked into a double blind date by her roommate, where she meets Logan Jennings. Let's just say the date is memorable, but not because it goes well. Monday morning Tessa gets the shock of her life when she discovers Logan is the business consultant the owner hired to get the company back on track. How's that for awkward?

Logan is the best!! He and Tessa have so much chemistry I'm surprised they didn't set the fire sprinklers off at work. The scenes that take place at work are hilarious. There's an especially memorable conference room scene that would've had me choking if I had been eating or drinking while reading it.

This is a different style of writing than the author's other books, and though I've enjoyed her other books, I love the style of this one. It's a great romantic comedy and would make a great movie.

I received a complimentary copy and loved it so much I bought a copy for my personal library.

So I kept with this past the three-quarter mark despite some qualms, mostly with Logan. I really like how well Pennington made Tessa's body-image issues present even though she has mostly conquered the hard parts. She has occasional lapses of insecurity but she works at it and has great coping mechanisms in place and I bought her as a strong and competent woman in a job she is passionate about being shaken by finding love in a very unexpected place and way. I liked seeing her professionalism intersect with her self-image and that she had the guts for actual honesty in both her professional and private life. Which is the problem but I'll get to that.

Logan is an enigma, though. He's beautiful and knows it, though not in the usual way of exploiting that for gain. Indeed, in an early conversation with Tessa, she reels off a self-descriptor that includes "virgin" and he responds to her embarrassment by assuring her he is as well. And I'm all "whaaaa? Gads, I hope the author isn't going to use that as an excuse to keep this 'clean'." This is a firmly contemporary romance and I'm all for not including the sex stuff if that's the way the author wants to go. But a contemporary guy who has women falling all over themselves to get a piece of him needs a reason. It doesn't have to take up much narrative real estate, but it needs to be there so that readers can figure out where he fits in his world. Without that, it makes him feel a bit unreal. Are there highly successful, beautiful, single men who are virgins out there? Probably. Theoretically, at any rate. But if there are, they have a reason for not having had sex. And one strong enough to counter the perpetuation-of-the-species drive that most people are born with (hey, make him asexual, sure. That's a reason) But it needs to be in the story for it to work.

His characterization is already weak, so then adding an attraction to the unconventionally attractive Tessa becomes a complication. Like Tessa wearing formalwear, it needs support (sorry, couldn't resist). Unfortunately, Pennington relies on the same thing she did for the virgin thing—states it and just hopes you'll go along. He's into Tessa. You can see that very clearly. But why? She insults him and puts him off and she could seriously mess up this difficult job he has to do. His best bet is to get that job done with as little contact with her as possible and then, if he's that interested, take a vacation where he can relax and date the insecurities out of her so they can get to know one another outside of the pressure they're under in the work place. But no. He likes her because the author says so and, while it's sweet and he's thoughtful and stuff, it just doesn't hold up.

So I was in it for Tessa. Until she gets pressed about maybe liking the consultant and she lets off with a stupid lie that is as out of character as it is cliché. The whole point of Tessa so far, and the thing that drew Logan in in the first place, was her honesty and how she works so hard to be as honest as she can while still maintaining the confidentiality required by her job. So responding to a question that was as predictable as politicians pointing fingers in a crisis with a lie that is as stupid as it is likely to blow up in her face broke my final connection to this story.

This makes me sad because I had hopes this would be better. I loved the bits of Tessa that felt so authentic and real. So much so that I put up with the magical unicorn standing in for her romantic interest. Making her act stupidly with no foundation felt cheap and just blew my engagement away. I hate when that happens.

No rating on this one for . . . reasons. It's complicated. Which is why there's a link...

So Much Fun!

I absolutely adored this book. It's no secret that I love books the entertain me and this one surely did. There were so many scenes and moments that made me smile and laugh. Just thinking about them now makes me smile. The attraction was crackling and made even my tummy flutter! I really, really loved this one. Thank goodness my friend told me to drop everything and read this. It was a fantastic diversion that left me happy and satisfied. I want to go back and read it again right now!

My Worth It List:
1. Massages & Pedicures
2. The Beach
3. Some special occasions
4. Henry Cavill
5. Chris Evans
6. Yon Gonzalez
7. Derek Klena
8. Vacation

I’ve been inspired by this book... and though I don’t have sensitive legs like Tessa, I just HATE shaving my legs so I rarely do. So I figured I’d get my “Worth It” list out of the way 👆🏻😂

This was such a fun book! Such a classic romantic comedy. The stick on bra accident was hilarious as was most things that came out of Tessa’s mouth. I related to her a lot.
I too am a “curvier” gal and it weighs on my mind sometimes more than it should. But I really liked her mirror trick to really look at yourself and remember the innocent care free young girl you were and remember how she didn’t worry about what others thought and just lived her life as beautiful as she is. It was a new way of looking at things and I enjoyed it!

Logan was what book boyfriends are made of! 😍 Drop dead gorgeous, witty, confident, caring, and a gentleman. I really really loved him! He was so good to Tessa. I loved all of his “acquiring data and data analysis”. I loved how he was so unbothered by things like when Tessa’s roommate found them in her room... haha!

I loved the business of “Booms and Nibbles” and seeing a male consultant come in to help really added to the comedy aspect of the book!
I also really can’t wait for Krista’s story! I wasn’t totally sold on her but after how much she helped Tessa and meeting Damien... well I’m excited.
It did have an abrupt ending but it was still satisfying somehow. I just would of liked a good wrap up chapter.

So I obviously highly recommend you all pick this up and read it! It’s a perfect quick quarantiney read!

Who is worth shaving for?

Life is strange right now and this book was the absolute perfect distraction! Michelle Pennington writes in a few different genres, but this has got to be a favorite of mine. She hits it right on the mark with her hilarious and snarky protagonist, Tessa, and the highly entertaining antics that ensue from working in a lingerie environment.

The first meet situation between Tessa and Logan was brilliant and hilarious. I was cringing and blushing, while I devoured this sarcastic and carefree story, but most of all, my heart and soul were completely engaged from start to finish.

Tessa is a perfectly imperfect character and one whom many can relate to. I love how far she has come in embracing herself, yet she still finds room for growth. If don't think there's any living, breathing woman out there who could resist Logan's charms and I loved that undeniable pull between these two seemingly opposite characters.

This story is a home-run-winner-winner-chicken-dinner kind of a book and I'm wishing on stars that Ms Pennington writes more in this genre.

Content: mild+ romance (some light innuendo, kissing, lingerie talk)

This was a fun escape, a cute rom-com you can curl up to and enjoy for a couple hours. Tessa and Logan meet on a blind date, not thinking it would go anywhere. They're both surprised when they find out they'll be working together for the next couple of weeks, and her professional future is now in Logan's hands.

Theres some fun scenes in this book and I liked the workplace setting. Their relationship does move a little quickly, but still fun for when you're just wanting an entertaining escape. I could see this being a cute movie.

Content: Clean romance, no violence or language

I think this is my favorite contemporary romance this year. Right up there with my fav books! This was so much fun! This had a perfect formula for me. The girl had some self esteem issues( don't we all) but they were not dwelled upon and overly talked about. There is actually a part in the book I loved where she looks at herself in the mirror and reminds herself that she is awesome. Loved it! She was also not a tiny thing but it wasn't shoved down your throat it was just an issue she had. This story was just done so well. I loved the humor and the sillyness, but also the real life stress. I LOVED Logan! Oh my what an amazing guy! This story just worked so well. This is also something I would have no problem giving my teen but had heat that was so well done! The kisses were amazing! If you are looking for a good contemporary give this one a shot.

-‘Because of my sensitive skin, I only shaved my legs for really important things—like swimming or the few occasions I wore a skirt. Those things made it onto my list because they were worth shaving for. The only guys that had made the list so far were fantasy guys, guys I’d never be able to date, like Chris Hemsworth.’-

This was definitely a different style of writing from this author’s usual genre and boy does it suit her! I couldn’t put it down once I started reading. So. Hot! I hope she writes more like this because this is by far my favourite of hers. It reminded me of Becky Monson’s Spinster series, another favourite. I heartily recommend this book. Bravo Michelle Pennington! Excellent job!

I've gone back and forth on how to rate this book. I've also gone back and forth on whether I should leave a review or not. I really, really wanted to love this book since all my bookish friends did. But alas, I'm in the minority here and I just ended up liking it.

I was caught off guard by the whole body issues/sizes throughout the book. For those who have/are struggling with it, it could be a possible trigger and/or bring up bad memories. Since this was one of the main focuses, I felt it took away some of the enjoyment for me.

And for those who know me, know I hate when books just end. This one did just that. I'm left wondering if Tessa and Logan got a HEA or a HFN ending. It just doesn't feel complete to me.

Don't get me wrong, this is a cute book. So many people have loved it. But it fell kind of flat for me. :(

That was lovely, and something I had not really expected from this writer but appreciated nonetheless. It was also honest, heartfelt, staightforward and hilarious (Tessa's attempts to fix her, um, attire during the blind date!). Also, I found it intensely refreshing that the relationship between the MCs did not follow the usual tropes. The premise was absolutely unexpected (especially since they both seem to be in their later 20s/early 30s) and while a lot of people might find it unrealistic, I personally did not. It starts in an unusual way and so it continues, without the typical hefty doses of miscommunication. Which was a relief. Oh, and the author does so-called 'steamy clean' to perfection.

There are also constant references to the idea of body positivity and while I am often wary of it (as in 150-kg models referring to themselves as 'curvy' rather than morbidly obese), I can definitely relate to the stress, insecurities and self-doubt caused by being bigger than other girls, and the need to look good and elegant despite the larger clothes size. It was a very comforting read, really.

I think this book will go to my 'comfort-read' pile. It is not exactly 5 stars - maybe a little too fairy-tale-ish, and maybe the relationship progressed a little too fast, but I know I will be coming back to this book when I need something to take my mind off the harsh realities of RL.

MTA: Still loving it, especially Tessa's honesty and no-nonsense attitude. She does have her insecurities but when it is needed, she is determined, level-headed and professional. And that's admirable.

I'm a long-time fan of Ms. Pennington and have enjoyed her growth as a writer over time.

This is my favorite book she's written so far. I truly think romantic comedy is where her genius lies and shines. I hope she continues to write in this genre. I want to read more.

I thought the premise of the book was humorous and delightful. The writing was clever. The character's were awesome. I loved having a heroine with curves and the challenges and perks of being so. Every woman, regardless of size, has insecurities about her body. And Ms. Pennington used them to connect the reader to the heroine.

The chemistry was great and kept to kissing. The bedroom scene had me laughing, though the first chapter was even funnier.

Was Logan a man worthy of the shaving list? Read and find out.

A lot of books SAY they are a comedy, but this one truly had me laughing out loud — a lot. I fell in love with Tessa almost immediately. Her ability to be brutally honest and laugh at her horrible luck was amazing. And you don't have to be a not-size-4 to relate to her insecurity when there is literally an entire office full of women fawning over the guy you like, yet for the most part, she is wonderfully confident. Add in the "beautiful" Logan, and you've got a winner!

I was given a free copy for an honest review.

Such a fantastic romantic comedy!

I really enjoy this author’s books, so I was excited to read this one, but it’s like nothing I’ve read by her before! Seriously, I kept having to stop and read aloud parts to my husband so he could understand why I kept laughing. It was such a breath of fresh air, and a true romantic comedy.

I loved the first person perspective of Tessa. She is smart, sassy, and full of spunk. The situations she sometimes got herself into were hilarious, and I enjoyed reading from her point of view. Logan was a definite swoony hero, and the bantering between Tessa and Logan was playful and fun, and had my toes curling in delight.

A good clean romance, this story will leave you with all the feels. One of this author’s best books for sure!! I hope she writes more romantic comedy in the future.

Worth it!

This book was laugh-out-loud funny while still having tender moments and lots of tense situations.

Logan was such a great male character. He was driven, good at his job, but passionate about pursuing Tessa who was the one woman he shouldn't want. I like the way that he pursued her and the way he wasn't afraid to be vulnerable without coming across as effeminate.

Tessa was such a fun character! She was funny, smart, and bluntly honest. I liked the way she wasn't a perfect size 6 (or whatever the perfect size is supposed to be) and was comfortable with her body.

Together, Tessa and Logan were a potent combination and a lot of their chemistry was because of what they hadn't been able to say.

Oh my goodness! I loved this book! Tessa and Logan are amazing together and I really loved how this story played out. First time author for me and can definitely see reading more by her. It's a clean read with some smooching but nothing over the top. The writing was amazing! I think the author did a wonderful job with the plot and character development. I may just have to come up with my own "Worth it" list!

Rating: PG - only because of the kissing and over night stay
Language: no profanity or use of deity
Recommend: Absolutely!

I loved this book! I so relate to Tessa, except I'm not bluntly honest like she is, but I loved it. Tessa and Logan seem to be in an impossible situation, but it sure was fun watching them figure it out. This is a fun new series and I'm excited to see where it is going. This author continues to surprise me with wonderful stories in different genres.

(2nd/Audio review, 08/2020): This book kept me up way past my bedtime the first time I read it, and this time, while listening to it, it pretty much did the same (had to force myself to press the "pause" button in order to get some sleep), so that should attest to how good this story truly is (full "Story" review below).

As for the narrator, I think she did a great job of bringing Tessa Young to life. Honestly, this whole audio felt like a coffee date where she's telling the reader how she got to meet Logan *le sigh* and how everything came to happen. Oh, and I loved Krista's voice! So on point and perfect for her character!
However, I also think there's still room for improvement with some nuances, whispers, and the like, as well as for equipment since it felt like there was a background "noise" (or static? I don't know how to describe it).

Still, the last bit notwithstanding, I think fans of the author, the Sweet Romance genre, or even this book, will love to get their hands on its audio version.~ 4.75 stars

PS: I was planning on re-reading this book anyway to be better prepared for the next book, but the audio came at the perfect time ;) now I'm off to read Krista's story :D

(1st/Story review, 03/2020): A Man Worth Shaving For was soooo good!!! I was hooked to the story since the author shared a sneak peek in her NL, and then after it published when I read the preview that Amazon shows of the book. So, after one-clicking it, I decided to start reading it near my bedtime. Two words: Big Mistake. This book is great at making you feel what Tessa's going through: you'll be pretty much swooning, laughing and even fanning yourself (I did at one point) with all the interactions between her and Logan 😍 just, be warned: If you value your sleep or are going to want to function properly the next day, don't start it so late, lol. Also, I think the other readers are right: this might as well be Ms. Pennington's best so far, and I can't wait for Krista's story *happy squeal*.

Content: it's clean/sweet as in there are only a few passionate kisses but nothing else happens. However, the h works at a lingerie shop and thus, there are innuendos/expressions, descriptions, and comments that go along that line of work (mentioned when talking with her coworkers as well as with the H). ~ 4 stars

I really hate to be the one to have an unpopular opinion, and I really wanted to love this book, but it was just not great. And it's not that I'm not a romance person, because I am. (Anyone following my recent Twilight escapades can attest to that...) But this book hit all the cliche, dumb, boring romance stereotypes that trigger my gag reflex and leave me wondering why I spent $.99 to have this experience.

I didn't really find it funny. The jokes were all related to bras, mascara wands, and unshaved legs, and seemed akin to a female version of fart jokes. The romance was so instantaneous and just...boring. I thought Logan was kind of boring too. His only personality trait was "hot." And even then, he kind of acted like a creep sometimes. (If I was Tessa, I would have been weirded out, rather than turned on when he took my hand and started analytically breaking down what it meant about me. )

There wasn't any real tension to their relationship other than the fact that they weren't supposed to be dating because they worked together. But that wasn't even a real conflict because they got together anyway and only had to "keep it a secret" for like two weeks while he was at their company. And even then the secret still got out, and there were no real issues.

Also, only two weeks? This is what I mean. I can't stand it when characters have known each other for literal days and already passionately exclaimed their undying love for each other. But then again, considering they had their first kiss within hours of meeting for the first time, maybe that was a long time for them...

I did give it two stars because it did make me laugh (although not the way the book intended), and I had an enjoyable time making fun of it with a friend as I texted her scenes out of context.

Has the author ever worked in an office? The consultant asks for a list of personnel. Instead of sending out the list via email, the HR director PRINTS a hard copy and takes it to him. That's just dumb. And a uselessly stupid way of creating drama.

I don't like how she insults him every time. She's sarcastic, unprofessional (storms out of a meeting, refuses to work after hours or before hours even when he's said they had sensitive matters to discuss, is sarcastic about him in front of other people).

Girl mentions I am fat but I eat healthy and work out and I am fine with that. Same chapter proceeds to swallow up huge portions (per her own admission) of Thai food. And then the next day - which is right at beginning of next chapter--she eats Cheetos, Choc chip cookies, drinks Dr Pepper. So much that she is bloated and uncomfortable the following day.

On Tuesday she's having Tacos for lunch and we find get shaking additional salt on them. Look I don't care what you eat. But when your start by saying you eat healthy and I have known you for four days when during 3 of them your didn't I will notice.

We see her at work, watching K-drama, doing laundry, but we don't see her exercising at any point during her. Her self talk is very negative throughout the book. I would not recommend this to someone who is trying to find overweight or obese positive role models.

Why do authors think that the only way someone accepts her body is if she first lies to herself that she does eat healthy and exercises. Lots of slim people eat junk food and don't exercise who cares.

Oh...and they are both virgins. Smh. It doesn't add anything to the story to know that so I don't know why author felt need to include this tidbit.

I loved the cover and title. I even loved how the heroine is a larger plus size character. I’m no skinny mini so I appreciated that but this book was half developed that it was disappointing.
👠
Tessa works for a women’s intimates company. She has satisfaction in her job and believes in the product - bras that fit every body type. Her coworker wants her to try on a stick on bra for larger women. And Tessa’s roommate Madi ropes her into a blind date where she wears the stick on bra. Of course there’s a wardrobe malfunction and her date, Logan, is a dreamboat.
👠
They salvage the night and share a kiss thinking it would be the last until Tessa goes to work and sees Logan again. He’s there as a consultant to help the company.
👠
I had issues with this book - it wasn’t developed. Logan is a hot guy but that’s it. You never learn much about him and he insta loves Tessa which is odd without being explained and he’ll say intense things. One of the more revealing points in the story with Madi is completely wrong with the characters schedule which had been stated many times so that scene doesn’t add up.
