Kevin’s life was fairly standard and hectic. The fifth out of nine children there was never a shortage of excitement in the house. But his real joy came in building things. If he could describe heaven, it would be a place with unlimited access to power tools filled with the smell of sawdust and metal. Confident in his sexuality and sometimes a bit aggressive his journey into adulthood was running as smoothly as it could. That is until highschool.
His first day of school Kevin witnesses an incident with another student. Something seems off about the altercation but no one else notices. Still, Kevin can’t get this scene nor the student out of his mind. He’s convinced he’s right regardless if no one else believes it. Then one day he gets the opportunity to test his theory and the situation he finds himself in is something that even he did not expect.
This series should be read in order due to different vantage points over the same timelines.
In this 4th installment in this series, the author introduces us to Kevin, a new character, whom we briefly met before, but this is his pov, and in this short story we get to know him a little better. He notices Dario and his sadness and he finds himself with a need to cheer him up a little, to take care of him. To make him see he's much more worthy than he gives himself credit for. He does that with banter and flirting and I really liked him for it. A lot of people thread carefully around Dario, specially when he is depressed or having a panic attack, but Kevin is just honest and likes to challenge him.
I like how all the characters in this story act true to their age. They are teenagers, they talk and act like teenagers and that's not always the case in YA story's. They fool around, they talk about sex, they annoy each other, challenge each other, talk about futures and life's goals. I really love that about this series.
I kindly received an ARC from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review
I took a risk with requesting and ALC copy of the first book in this series. It's not something I would have typically chosen. I am so glad I did because I have now listened to the first 4 audiobooks and I am hooked. Each book is a different POV fo far and this one branches outside of Dario's core group and tells the perspective of a character loosly introduced at the ends of the other three books.
Kevin has a large, supportive family who accepts and supports him. He notices Dario and realizes that Dario is "sad" he wants to help him and eventually in their Junior year he makes his move. I can't wait to listen to the next book. I feel a strong need to see where this goes and hope for HEAs all around because almost all of the main and secondary characters deserve it.
The narration for these audiobooks is great and the characters feel real and their personalities and the setting shine through. I truly am loving these short books and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a heartfelt coming of age tale.
Now we are back up to Dario level awesome! This book focuses on Dario’s hopeful love interest. I want them together so badly. I don’t know truly why. I think it might have to do with the fact that Kevin actually notices that things aren’t ok with Dario and wants to actually help.
Kevin gets a full backstory before he really starts to interact with Dario. This is what I wanted from books two and three. Full stories that intersect with Dario, instead of being all about him. Kevin has a family that is large and has goals. He has support. He has a life. He has a first kiss that I got so excited for.
Kevin is more the type of guy that I could see myself hanging out with. He seems to have his head on his shoulders, he seems to have a hard time understanding hypocrisy and double standards. He really us just a down to earth guy. I really like him. I adore that his family builds things together and are trying to start a company of their own. I can see him being the guy that can help build Dario a future where he is happy.
I have no idea what to expect in book 5. So much of 1-4 have been the same timeline, but I feel like it might be time that things are moving on. I am so excited.
We are finally introduced to Kevin, the boy who told Dario he had “nice hands”. But, we begin from his beginning, throughout his childhood to high school. We learn about Kevin’s home life and how his parents are supportive of his sexuality, which is awesome, along with his brothers and sisters (which he has numerous).
Upon first glance at Dario, Kevin notices there’s something different about him. As time goes on, Kevin begins to notice Dario’s obvious depressive behavior. I really like that Kevin takes it upon himself to cheer Dario up, with flirtatious banter and challenging his personal views. I also like that Kevin never treads on eggshells around Dario, unlike his peers.
The story is moving along nicely, with all secondary characters having their time. I like that they are their age, and not appearing to be older, as is unusual for these novels. Also, they seem to worry about their future goals, what they are wanting to do while supporting one another. I am excited to see where Kevin and Dario’s relationship goes moving forward, too!!
An amazing insightful series. I am going to do this series review a little differently, I am making a cover comment and making it the same for all 7 books. I truly enjoyed this series. There is one main character, Dario and all the rest of the amazing characters are his salvation. There are some dark triggers so make sure you check that out, however, if you read this series in order it is well worth it. At first I thought, why not just make it one big book, but once I started I couldn't put it down, except for eating and sleeping. Each player in this well crafted story gives a new and different perspective. Whether they are a saviour or an evil hell bend wretch, they bring this story to life. I highly recommend this series. “I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.”
This fourth book in the I See Things in Blue series didn't resonate with me the way the first three did. It introduces a new character, Kevin, who is similar to Dario in that he is gay, but unlike Dario, he embraces who he is. I like that we have someone who sees how unhappy Dario is and wants to do something about it, but I didn't feel the story advanced very much. There is some fighting among high school peers, but not a lot of emotion or drama. Perhaps the story is building up to the next chapter.
I received a free copy of the audio of this book and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
This is the fourth book in the series and it focuses on Kevin. This is Dario's love interest. It is a short novella and is a super quick read. Kevin notices that Dario is not doing so well (these books are in chronological order) so he tries to befriend him and maybe more. It was good and hopefully, we get more of these two.
Now we are getting somewhere. Thank goodness someone else is worried about Dario. I still feel like something is going to happen snd I’m not sure I’m ready for it.
Here in book #4 we learn about Kevin. Kevin notices Dario's sadness and reaches out to him. Can't wait to see how this goes. I received this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy.
Another great book in the installment of l See Things in Blue. Kevin grows up in a fantastically chaotic family. It is chaotic in the best way, this family is in constant movement and Kevin’s unabashedly supportive parents and siblings are a stark contrast to Darios suddenly racist self-involved mother and milk toast father.
Kevin is everything Dario doesn’t thing he wants but the exact thing he needs. In this installment you meet Kevin who eventually becomes Dario’s love interest. Kevin, despite his young age, is confident in his love for Dario, but refuses to limit his libido while Dario comes to terms to his sexuality. He makes it very clear to Dario that he is what Kevin wants, but he will have sex with other boys because he “has needs” but he will wait for Dario and be there the minute he says he is ready. This book deviates a little from the original time line. While Dario, Ryland, and Gavin have known each other since they were six, Kevin enters the story during their mutual freshman year of high school.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
As an only child, I loved reading about Kevin's family and his love for shop and building things. I also loved that we finally have a character who sees Dario clearly and understands that he is fragile without feeling it necessary to wrap him in a cocoon. Kevin treats Dario just like he treats everyone else and his honesty, openness and even bluntness is very welcome. I cannot wait to see how the relationship between Dario and Kevin develops in the rest of the books. This one is another great audiobook as well. Michael Mola has gotten inside these characters and I've loved hearing them come alive after reading the books a while back.
Very short, quick background from childhood to what appears to be the pivotal moment in this series. No real character development, but a nicely filled in sketch of Kevin, and where he is in this community.
Still chugging along. Kevin is growing up with an understanding family. He notices Dario and how sad he becomes sometimes. Kevin, seems like a very nice guy. Does Dario open up to Kevin? Does Kevin reach out to Dario? Interesting installment. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kevin is yet another point of view for the I See Things in Blue series. This time, we get a true outsider’s experience of Dario and his struggles. Kevin doesn’t know the first thing about the young man struggling with homophobic religious fanatic parents, anxiety and depression, and a sense of self-loathing. Kevin just sees injustice and steps in.
This young man is just about the opposite of Dario and I’m intrigued to see where the story goes next. Michael Mola’s narration is, of course, perfect. He just gets these wonderful characters and his interpretation adds to the great storyline.
This review includes a comment for the narrator, as I listened to the audio version of this installment.
In the 4th book of this series, Alexander gives readers a glimpse into Kevin’s life. It’s looking like Kevin might be the person to coax Dario into throwing off his parents’ oppressive cocoon and become the beautiful butterfly he is meant to be.
Looking forward to the next step in this coming-of-age story.
Even though it’s a short performance here, Michael Mola continues to deliver a primo narration for this series.
Love that we get a story from Kevin. I love who he is what he offers to this storyline. Can fell things building and looking forward to it! Although this audio was on the short side, it makes sense for why and looking forward to next one.
Wow! That was cute but super short. Great getting to know some new characters (Kevin is not part of Dario's immediate group.) I love Milton already! Bit disappointed by the promised romance, I didn't feel like that really appeared, but I live in hope it will show up in the next one!
Kevin is yet another whose life crosses paths with the depressive Dario.
Dario has a handsome muscular frame and straight A marks and yet he is insecure, obsessive, and prone to depression. His friends find him a confusing mess.
I did not expect this book was about a nine-year-old boy who wanted to marry another boy. Kevin is the first in this series that I have read, and I can't imagine me reading book one. I believe in people making their own decisions, but this series is not right for me.
