When Fate pays Simon a visit accusing him of disrupting causality, she makes him an offer he can’t refuse—become mortal or die.
There’s only one small problem.
In order to become mortal, Simon must find the goddess, Kali the Destroyer, and convince her to remove her curse. To complicate matters further, Haven and Roxanne are under attack by an ancient spell-an entropic sphere designed to kill everyone inside the facility.
Now, Monty and Simon must find out why Simon is disrupting causality, stop a lethal sphere from killing innocents, and convince an angry goddess to lift a curse.
A typical day in the Montague and Strong Detective Agency.
Join the Trio of Terror as they discover that not everything is as it seems, and sometimes, the past can kill you.

I’m getting stalled now but still reading so what does that say about me? Peaches is cute but his cuteness can only carry so many books. This ended in a cliffhanger so I’m moving straight onto the next one. I’m telling myself it will be my last but will it? 🤷🏻♀️
I did it, I made it to number 11 of the series. And I am still into this series!
The Execution: I will say that the writing isn't the best. There's a lot of repetition, the dialogue can be basic at times, and there are moments that seem a little unnecessary to the story as a whole. However, the story is unique and I can't help but want to read more to find out what's next.
The Story: This series does one of my favorite things where is combines the supernatural with the normal world that we all live in. Nowadays, there are a ton of them, but this series manages to remain unique. Without giving any spoilers, there are mages, gods, hellhounds, and a wide variety of supernatural creatures. Plus, with every addition to the story, the author manages to add and keep the story interesting.
The Cliffhanger: I will say that this one ends with a bit of a cliffhanger. Usually, I can't stand them, but I will forgive since I love this series. At this point, I am so invested in this series and I love the characters. This made the cliffhanger a little bit easier to take because instead of being angry, it only made me want to read the next one even more.
The Main Character: From the beginning, I have loved Simon. He's funny, adorable, and a bit of a dork. He has his own hellhound, has been cursed by a goddess, and is a badass. It's also really cool that he's a "normal" who was thrown into the supernatural world and is doing his best to navigate through it without too many disasters.
My favourite in the series (with Walking The Razor which I went to listen to as soon as I finished this one, for obvious reasons), this is the kind of story that keeps you on your toes the whole time.
And yeah, this was foreshadowed almost from the beginning of the series, but it still broke my heart when it happened.
Add to that that Simon is in a bad place regarding his very complex bonds, and well... you can see why fixing those issues has become more than urgent.
3 1/2 stars. Another action-packed installment of the Montague and Strong series. The stakes are higher than ever even if the destruction of historical monuments is less. The past comes to haunt both Montague and Strong and they both must confront decisions they have made.
You know when they say in a blurb that whatever will change the characters forever? So often over hyped. Not this time. The ripples will continue for books to come. The middle lacked something but I'm not sure what it was. I think I thought a certain trip was a waste of time. I missed the vampire. But overall a good book.
At this point everything Orlando Sanchez writes go on my Must Read List. They always entertain. And I'm always sorry to see them end.
If you like snarky, action packed stories with humor and great characters Sanchez also belongs on your Must Read List. Don't start here, the story has been building to this point for ten books and there is a lot of foundation to assimilate. Plus you need to get a feel for Strong and Monty's unique brand of magical mayhem. But if you are in the mood for mayhem, magic and snark, you can't go wrong with Montague and Strong.
Gak!! Cliffhanger alert! Well, jumping right into the next one in this exciting series. I just know I’ll find myself in a lost series book hole once I’ve finally gotten through all 20 but man, what a ride so far!! This one skewed a little dark & we got to see choice / chance (Fate and Karma, specifically) in action. This series as a whole has evolved elegantly & the relationships have developed so organically they just feel natural. Can’t wait (in fact, already downloaded!) to see what happens next! Nothing like a summer evening thunderstorm & a solid urban fantasy series!
This is book, what? 10 or something? Simon is still an absolute ignorant arse and Monty is a secretive fool. They both speak without listening to what anyone else is saying, which is not only infuriating, it's foolhardy in their job/game/life. They both seem to be absolutely incapable of putting 2 + 2 together and coming up with 4. It was amusing at first, one idiot and one arsehole stumbling around blindly and mostly winning, but now it's just irritating. I realised about half way through that I'm no longer enjoying these books. I'm not going to waste my te anymore. I keep hoping Simon will have some sort of breakthrough and stop being such a moron, but it never happens, and after this amount of books, I've given up hope. Sorry, Mr Sanchez. It's been fun, but it's now hardwork, and that's not why I read.
Once again Simon is in trouble and he has no idea what's going on. They made a mess trying to fix it, and then everything goes to hell. There's not much new, incredibly high stakes, powerful enemies, impossible situations, and our heroes walking right into trouble, even knowing it wasn't the right call, they still go through with it and end up in over their heads. By now it all starts feeling a little repetitive, same situation with only small variations, and the threat of death always present. Peaches is the same, but I don't care, he is adorable! but the others, I feel they are not evolving. I still want to know what's going to happen next, but it's not as much fun as before.
Idle hands are Fate's playthings. With no pressing catastrophes, of course an aspect of Fate shows up to accuse Simon of creating a hostile work environment. And, yes, there's a deadline. What follows is a whirlwind of action, discussions regarding the differences between fate and causality, and multiple cameos as Monty and Simon attempt to unwind the mystery. And then the trap is revealed. Enjoy the ride!
I'm with Louise's review on that one - absolutely insufferable! After 10 books - or better called booklets - the continuing stupidity of Simon is not only annoying but outright infuriating. At the beginning it was kind of entertaining, witty at times and different. But now the continuing idiocy is just grating on the nerves and like Louise mentioned, waiting (or hoping) for some enlightenment is futile. Add to it the 'missing links' in the story line (read: references to books not in the series) and 'pissed off reader' is truly a mild definition.
The author obviously uses this 'tangling of pending illumination' (don't dare to call it wisdom) or plots from other books to get the readers to buy the next installment of a rather mediocre fantasy series. Little does he realize that he is actually denigrating the readers by going this route. Considering all the 5 star reviews, though, Mr. Sanchez may be on to something here.
"Dark Glass" must have been a 'writers block' or whatever works as excuse nowadays for producing pages after pages of meaningless page-filling. Endless, boring dialogues and little to no action leave you feeling cheated for your money. Unfortunately, there are only a handful of truly gifted writers who manage to continue a series past count ten, without creating page-fillers full of useless rambling and blah-blah. For all of those who decide to continue on with the series, may the author grant you some smarts, get back to his roots and become creative again. For me, this is the end... Back to the store shelves, trying to find something more entertaining and definitely more intellectually challenging, even if it's just a fantasy novel.
Oh, so many questions after reading this last M&S book. Simon is feeling relief for the first time in a long time. Nothing pressing in his and Monty's lives unless it's the urgency that Peaches puts on filling his bowel with meat. Well...until there is. A woman who smells bad shows up and their lives are thrown into turmoil and Peaches thinks Simon smells bad too. Monty senses that Simons powers are all "wonky" and dare I say it? The strange woman knows it too. The goddess, Fate, as she claims to be wants things that Simon and Monty don't understand. Simon is supposed to get rid of his immortality in order to keep the future on the right path. A blast from the past, treachery, revenge, danger, blood magic, a dangerous goddess, paying karma and a new quest to save a best friend. Excitement? I'll say. Unanswered questions? A ton of them. Patience...I don't have any. So when is the next book coming out dear author? I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
What the...?!?! There was so much in this book. I felt like I was just getting started when I reached the end! I think this is my favorite (and at the same time lease favorite) in the series. Loved how things are starting to come together, but hated how they inevitably blow up to the extremes that only Monty, Simon, and Peaches can deliver! That ending!! Seriously, I am glad I waited to read this book until #12 was out too. Though if 12 is anything like 11, I am seriously going to wish I waited until 13 was out because I finished this book last night and I am already over half way through the next. I just need to know what is happening!
My favorite part of the story, that is not actually part of the story comes from the authors note.
"All endings are just beginnings, this is the ending for this PART of the story. Now get writing. This is getting weird."
The 11th book in this series has Monty and Simon scrambling to find out why Simon is disrupting causality, and the only way they can is to go see the goddess, Kali, who cursed Simon to be immortal. But that could a deadly visit, Kali isn’t known to play nice. In the meantime, Haven is attacked and Monty and Simon are sidetracked on the way, and the attack puts Monty in mortal danger.
This book is non-stop out of the gate and it does end on a cliffhanger, but since the next book is out, it’s not that big of a deal. We find out even more about our duo and their pasts, and we delve a bit deeper into Monty. But not all is as it seems…
Great series and this a good addition to the series. I like the fact that the author keeps this series fresh and exciting and I’m looking forward to continuing on.
Every once in a while, an author throws a massive curveball into an established series. Sometimes it smashes the perfectly constructed and well-loved series. But sometimes...sometimes that curveball reshapes the series and its characters in such a way that they become greater than they were. That is exactly what happens in this installment. Get ready to throw your reading device, say bad words out loud and simultaneously curse and praise Sensei Sanchez. Monty and Simon face a foe greater than any other—they must both face themselves and their past in order to have a future. With key allies missing in action, they must face this journey in order to save those that they love...again. Even Superman gets tired sometimes...
Very exciting beginning to the book and an epic ending, leaving us with the biggest cliffhanger so far in the M&S series. I just felt there was an overly long period of procrastination in the middle where the energy dropped a bit. This isn’t a book that you can pick up without reading the rest of the series first, and some of the subjects discussed have been talked about a lot over the previous books in the series; how various cars have been destroyed, for instance. It just made the pause between the action seem too long, but that is just my opinion... I don’t pretend to be a car person. Otherwise the writing is fabulous as usual and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Peaches smells something 'off' about Simon, his bond mate. Trying to learn what the problem is and how to solve it is one of the main themes of this installment of the Montague and Strong series. Major concerns about Monty is another theme. Snappy, snarky dialogue, as usual, and a breathless pace along with some very surprising twists make this one of the most exciting stories of the M&S series yet. Not quite a cliff hanger, I guess a major tease into the next story, but if you've been following this series this long, as I have, I'm going to read the next one anyway, so not a problem for me. I'm just hoping the next book comes out very soon!
Simon's multible bindings are not getting along. Between the sword, Karma and Kali's curse magic is acting wonky in Simon's presence, plus Peaches says he smells bad. A being calling herself Fate appears through their wards into the office. She gives Simon 7 days to get rid of his immortality or she will erase everyone whose life he has impacted. Simon and Monty run around town trying to figure out what moves to make and come to the decision they need to visit Kali to remove the curse. Much mayhem takes place and much meat is consumed (by Peaches). Another rip roaring journey for our heroes and I loved the side travel to Sepia Blue's world
Normally I give all Montague and Strong books a solid five star rating. This one gets downgraded for two reasons. First, there is no real end. It’s a cliffhanger, which I hate. If I didn’t like the series so much, I’d had given it one star just for that. Second, while most of the Montague and Strong books consist primarily of dialog, this one goes above and beyond. Actions should have ended during the long conversations, but of course they never do. Time is wonky that way. Nothing happens until the protagonists have had their say. Still, I’m too invested in the story to stop now. I have to keep reading.
You have known this day was coming. You have watched every moment of their lives in this series, anticipating, fearing, secretly wanting it to happen & it did!
I have stopped reading every other series I was enjoying & focused entirely on this one. It is that good. So, if you are following along in the series, don't stop now. If you are new to this series, don't start here, go start at the beginning, you will thank me for that bit of sage advice once you get back here. Now, go enjoy your nice cuppa or your Javambrosia (you will understand those references later if you are new.).
Dark Glass, delivers another gripping, mind blowing adventure set in the Urban Fantasy world created by the author. Peaches, Simon's Hellhound smells something wrong with his bondmate. Brought to Monty's attention they discover dire news. Simon is poisoned and dying, but being cursed alive that presents a problem. Follow along on this exciting, snark filled, page turning adventure. It has the "Duo of Destruction & Peaches" visit the deli where Death hangs out, "Meat is Life" leading to a Temple in New Jersey. What could go wrong in Jersey? Another must read...
This book takes chaos to a whole nother level and then drops you off the deep end. What an amazing ride!
Dark Glass delves deep into to the chaos that is Montague and Strong. This book is exciting, eventful and nail-biting in its intensity. It is the best book in the series yet! Strap in, as this is a wild and bumpy tale and shows you that your choices could have volatile consequences. This is Monty and Simon at their most explosive with a lot of Peaches thrown in. I loved every word!
This installment of the series definitely kicks it up a notch. What is Fate and what is Karma? Are some things inevitable? Are we all aware of the choices we make every single time we take an action? Are they all spelled out for us to see? What if they aren't? These sound like philosophical questions to ponder, but in this case, they are immediately relevant to our Terrible Trio. I've been as spoiler free as posssible, and now it's up to you to go download this book!
Our author, Orlando Sanchez, believes this book defied him and changed direction all on its own. Perhaps. Good stories have a way of manifesting themselves in the mind of the author and reader. When I read about Simon Strong, I wonder how long it will take him listen to the hints two goddesses and another powerful being have given him. In spite of Simon’s predictable cluelessness, the story leads us on a journey that I will follow to the very end.
Tristan has been skirting the edges for far too long and now, there they have it. Luckily, Simon, being his Shield Bearer and, what's more important, his family and friend, won't give up on him that easily.
It was fun as always, though I do have to say that there was a lot of talking and not a lot of acting this time around, maybe a bit too much. I still enjoyed the back and forths, immensely so, but at a certain point, in the middle of action, it started to drag a little. It felt like the author had too thin a plot and needed to pad it out.
Balance, Cause and Effect. When you have Tristan, Simon, Peaches, Karma and Fate together life starts to get very interesting and a little painful. We know that nothing is as it seems when the trio of destruction is involved. So hang on to your chair and get swept along on the adventure. When you finish this story you'll be left saying Okay...Wow. Yes there is a slight cliffhanger involved. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Someone from Monty's past makes an appearance and shakes things ups for M&S in this next installment. Simon needs to make contact with Kali to try and straighten out his immortality in order to help Monty but doesn't make it in time before one of Monty's choices leads him to a dangerous predicament. A great read for all, and Peaches is involved for those of us that love the hellhound. Get ready for Easter eggs galore!
I love Monty, Simon and Peaches! The Author really brings out Monty's sarcastic, acerbic dry humour in this go-round and it is truly Masterful! And poor, mostly clueless Simon blasts through with instinct, heart, and obscure pop culture references LOL And Peaches is his ever funny and charming self! So I salute the author for once more producing a great story, while cursing him for the cliffhanger!
Family are not necessarily our blood kin but our friends around us they bring us strength perspective and reality. Simon and Monty are family This book while a cliff hangar (good try on the explanation of the unintended] has become my favorite in the Montague and Strong Series. I love where this is going and love finding out more and more about Simons curse and the Battle Mage.
The father you go down the rabbit hole that is the Monty & Strong reality, the deeper you wish to delve! Not where I expected to go on this leg of the journey, but that's the beauty of brilliant writing. *The authors notes at the end are rather epic, as are you Orlando! Thanks for sharing Monty & Simon's epic adventures wit the rest of us!
