Relationships require openness, and that brings vulnerability. If you open up, you risk getting hurt; if you don’t, you may never know the relationship you deserve.
Disha has always been shy and wary, and finds it difficult to make friends. Having grown up with parents who bicker all the time, she craves warmth and harmony. And ever since she first experienced the emotion of love, she has longed to be the centre of a special someone’s world. But with every fibre of her being, Disha believes she is unlucky in love. The hardest part for anyone is finding the ‘right’ person—but in her search for that man, broken hearts and broken promises is all she’s had.
With no luck and no one on the horizon, Disha gives up and agrees to an arranged marriage. Is true love not written in her stars? Will she be able to reverse her fortunes, or is she destined to never find her soulmate?
A Second Chance is the heart-wrenching story of a multifaceted girl and her search to find the love she deserves.
Sudeep Nagarkar has authored six bestselling novels— Few Things Left Unsaid That’s the Way We Met It Started with a Friend Request Sorry, You’re Not My Type You’re The Password to My Life. You're trending in my dreams.
He is the recipient of the 2013 Youth Achievers’ Award and has been featured on the Forbes India longlist of the most influential celebrities. He also writes for television and has given guest lectures in various renowned institutes and organizations.
I just finished this book I remember reading it started with a friend request in 11th std. And after that, I read 3,4 books from the supdeep. But, never put reviews for the same.
This is the story of Disha, her life to be specific love life. Stroy starts from 10th std until the marriage of her life.
Disha is a kind of girl who is shy, hard to make new friends think that her love is not meant for her. She has strong parents who always keep an eye on her still support in the latter part of her life.
She believes that it's really hard to find the right person in life. Her friend kajal is supportive.
There are many characters in the book like Raghav, Dhruv, Meghana Priya, etc.
My favorite character is grandma (who is really close to my heart) and family of Dhruv.
The story is okay. There are a few moments where you feel the roller coaster ride. This story is a good fit for a young age. Who loves romance, college life, etc. Then you will enjoy it.
you are an avid reader like me who reads a lot of books then you will find a little disappointed.
Actually rating 3.4 Because of the end part which says "self-respect over Love"
When I had started reading books a decade back, I always loved reading the debutante Indian writers. I don’t know why but I felt that these authors wrote with heart – then and even now. And mostly, all the books I read during those days were love stories and it continued for next 4-5 years after which the next set of writers that came up with their 1st book were on different topics such as mythology, historical fiction or quite in-depth emotions. But there is a kind of emotion which got developed with the first few writers I read and Sudeep Nagarkar is one of them. I had read his 1st book and saw him developing as a Bestselling author with 12 book titles under his name. I have just completed reading his latest release which is his 13th book named “A Second Chance” released just yesterday itself.
The book speaks about the protagonist – Disha majorly who is a girl suffering through mental issues right from her childhood due to her parent’s disturbed relationship, their treatment with her, her bad luck at school etc. She has only thing constant in her life that is her friend – Kajal. Finally, she falls in love with a classmate which just makes her life more miserable and few things happen here and there (not disclosing to avoid spoilers) and she is being made to go through the process of Arranged Marriage. The book starts with her concern regarding Arranged Marriage with which I could relate so much. I believe Sudeep set the right segment to initiate the book with as it talks about the trauma and dilemma every young boy and girl has to go through because of the confusions and panic they have regarding setting up with a stranger for rest of their lives.
The narration of the book is simple and written in Sudeep Nagarkar’s style itself which he has carried right since his 1st book with which the youth and his readers connects with him. This is a book which talks mostly about the school and college-days romance where you might not find something great happening but in the 2nd half of the book when the story moves further and the dilemma of marriage begins is where the characterization of Disha is utilized nicely. I liked how Sudeep has taken the story post-marriage and this is where I found him speaking his thoughts regarding how ideal a married life should be in today’s time. The role of in-laws, how a husband should treat his wife on the first night, how the relationship is grown gradually day-by-day and how there shouldn’t be any secrets between the two in order to keep the bond pure and lively. This is a topic which deserves to be spoken to the new generation.
Rather than being directly preachy, Sudeep has tried to speak things in the thoughts that Disha writes or thinks in the italic font throughout the book. Also, the pre-climax and climax has a proper ending rather than keeping anything open or purposefully sad in order to get empathy from readers for the character who loses out. The characterizations of Raghav, Kajal, Dhruv, his parents and Disha’s parents are also done nicely and you can relate with them. The nice edit of the book as it has been summed up in within 225 pages is another great factor which makes this book a light and short read.
Talking about the drawbacks of the book- I feel that the story could have had more layers and it should have involved more sub-plots and intense conversations – currently, I found it to be quite simple considering that few of Sudeep’s previous books had great layers hence there were certain expectations. The way the book starts- I felt I shall be made familiar with many such youth traumas, but I could not find much after that. There are still few clichés that has been used in defining the emotion of love which I believe could have been narrated in more deepening manner. The character of Kajal should have been used more and involved with the main story. I found the narration to be old-school and was wondering why the author did not write it little more aggressive discussing lot of things youth indulges in these days.
Overall, this is a nice attempt considering the target audience of Sudeep Nagarkar as this story speaks of strengthening the bond of marriage and relationship whereas the new generation these days does not believe in the institution of marriage. This is something for which I would like to appreciate Sudeep’s intention as this shall surely change views of some of the readers at least. I give the book 3 stars out of 5.
Second Chance by Sudeep Nagarkar is a contemporary romance novel set in a regular Indian family where the girl is expected to get married at a particular age. Nonetheless, the female protagonist Disha worries to be in a relationship after the trauma she went through. This new-age novel has a whirlwind of emotions and drama.
Disha was an introverted kid who grew up in a house where her parents’ bickering was her alarm clock every day. Being a shy kid has a flaw that she wasn’t good at making friends. The only individual who was constant in her life was her friend Kajal. She craved for the love she never had in her life. She wished to be special in someone’s life. In her search for the warmth of love, she was left heartbroken. Disha considers that she is unlucky in finding true love. Eventually, she yielded to the pressure from her parents in an arranged marriage.
Will Disha get her second chance? Will she be lucky this time?
The narration of the story is straightforward and easy to follow. I loved the simplicity. It was quite engaging to me. The book is about the feelings we all endured in our school and college days. The ambivalence in one’s potential and how it embodies us. I loved the way Disha’s in-laws understood her. However, the storyline was predictable and cliche. Also, Sudeep Nagarkar expresses that there is still a second chance for everything in our life.
Despite the cliche romantic setting, I liked the book. If you are into romantic books and something light then go ahead with this one.
After a long long time read a bestselling Indian author's book. I started my reading adventures by reading books of sudeep, durjoy, chetan and ravi. Reading sudeep's first book Thats the way it is. As the protagonist in the book gives surprises to her girl friend on her birthday same way I had done to my Girl friend who is my wife today. So I always loved their book a lot. As the story takes into sad mode i use to be sad in real life as well such an effect was these books to me. Reading this book after a long time had me put into same boat again. A second chance is a book about Disha who is a introvert and who thinks is unlucky in love. How she overcomes her fear and makes her school friend now her husband feel loved is the book second chance. There are 3 part of life that has been narrated by the author her school life, college life and life after getting engaged. How in school life being an introvert starts loving a guy and keeping it to herself. Thinking him to be insensitive she overcomes her love but she does not know fate has surprises for her in the college life as well. As the same person comes to her in the college life which creates a very deep impact on her as well as her future husbands life. What is her past and what is her future is the book. Overall I would say its a ok Goodread... :)
Being a fan of Sudeep Nagarkar, I somewhere felt this book is not of his types. His writing was amazing in his previous ones. But in this book the story flows so fast that, he has missed the character detailing.
Its better to read the Previous Sudeep Nagarkar books.
The first half was good but the second half was predictable. Its like a feel good story but too good to be true kind of.Okay to once read it but it was not captured exciting for me.
Name of the book : A Second Chance Author : @sudeepnagarkar Publication : @westland_books Pages : 219 Price : 225
"A Second Chance" by 'Sudeep Nagarkar' depicts the story of a young girl. How she has a crush on the most good looking guy of her school and then end by having some misunderstanding. Will she ever get a chance to meet him again? Will they be together ever? Will they be successful in their journey of love? Will she find her true love?. These questions are answered in this book within fifteen beautiful chapters.
Disha the main lead of the story, is a very simple and naive girl who belongs to a middle class not so happy family. Not so happy because her parent's relationship were not good enough. They were together only for the sake of Disha. She always craved for love, which she gets from her grandmother and her best friend Kajal. They were the only people who understands her and with whom she can express her feelings. But as time passed her grandmother left her and she was devastated, but Kajal was there to support her and to guide her.
Raghav is the most popular guy of the school. Many girls have crush on him along with Disha. Raghav has coquettish nature which you'll experience while going through this book. He is from a well to do family but he has a similar background as Disha's when it comes to their parent's relationship. Dhruv was Raghav's bestfriend who is always there to guide him and also his secret keeper. Dhruv is a very sensible, hardworking and mature guy according to his age.
From my point of view I felt that the story has no uniqness. It is a very common type of story, written in a very simple language. Though not at all boring one can finish this in one sit. It's more like a daily soap story. Amid the story there's a little twist. Each character justifies its role.
My favourite character is Dhruv. I'm in love with his character. He is very well portrayed.
I have read 7-8 books of Sudeep Nagarkar and I had my own level of expectations when I started to read this one,but to be honest I am really disappointed with this book.I liked the initial part of the book where Disha expressed how she felt about her crush and its something everyone can relate to but the rest of the book was very predictable with some drama involved. The end of the book looked like some plot from daily soap. And as a I reader I never really felt the intensity of emotions described in this book in comparison to his previous books.
It's an amazing read. The story is about a girl Disha who feels she is unlucky in love.. The story is divided into three phases of her life which is her school , college and , marriage. The character of Disha is very well written as you can feel each emotion. The twist and turns in the story keep you engaged till the end.
This book really justified the title " A second chance" . It is a story of girl and her journey from school to college and finally the life. Here she is in search of love because she had seen her parents fighting all the time, over small things. She got 2 set backs in life during her journey in the book. One when her grandmother died. Second when Raghav break her trust to he core. The best thing that Sudeep Nagarkar Sir shown us is that Dhruv was is a nice guy and care for her. He had a crush on her and finally got her. Life is crazy and becomes very beautiful when someone who have been your crush suddenly become your wife. It's like a lottery given to person by god. There relationship faced glitches from the past mistakes but all well the ends well is what it is about . One would love to had in-laws like Dhruv parents and friend like Kajal in life to keep person stable and not to take a drastic step after a setback. I really loved the main motive of this book that in life if something bad happens one should not stop and must always be ready for a second chance. No one knows what best god has written next in their lives. The narration of the book is simple and well written in Sudeep Nagarkar’s style itself which he has carried right since his 1st book with which the youth and his readers connects with him . I liked how Sudeep has taken the story post-marriage. The role of in-laws , how a husband should treat his wife on the first night , how the relationship is grown gradually day by day and how there shouldn’t be any secrets between the two in order to keep the bond pure and lively. This is a topic which deserves to be spoken to the new generation. I wish the author to keep writing such BEAUTIFUL, INSPIRATION and MOTIVATIONAL stories for the readers. I soooooooo loved the book. I wish if there should be few more pages. Mamy many blessings to this rich author. I would suggest this book to everyone especially those who are about to get married.
Have you ever been broken in love? Have you ever thought of giving a second chance to yourself? This book really justified the title " A second chance" . The language of the book is simple and the book can be completed within few hours. This book contains 15 beautiful chapters.
The story revolves around a girl named 'Disha' who is the only child of her parents. Her family is not at all a happy family , she had been grown in a family where she had seen her parents fighting everytime and for her only they were together. Living in such surroundings, she always used to stay away from marriages and love. She is having a best friend named ' kajal'. While in school days, she had a crush on 'Raghav' . Raghav is from a rich family who is not so serious about his studies and he had a best friend, ' Dhruv' . Four of them met in school where they started hanging out with each other. Some incidents happened which made their friendship worst and they never spoke with each other.
Years passed and again it seems God made raghav to come again in Disha's life. This time it was something different. Will Disha confess her heart out to Raghav? Will they be in relationship? If yes, then whether this is the right decision made by her or whether there is no love written in her stars.
I really loved the main motive of this book that in life if something bad happens one should not stop and must always be ready for a second chance. No one knows what best god has written next in their lives. Though I find in between the book was plane and ordinary but I was really happy to read the "twisted end" of the book. Must read!!
After reading Sudeep Nagarkar's 'A Second Chance' the first word that comes to mind is, relatable. If you are known to his style of writing, you would know that his love stories are about everyday characters like you and me. It's about the journey of everyday people finding their love and destiny. 'A Second Chance' is no different, the protagonist Disha is a girl whom all of us can relate to in some or the other way. She is kind, and shy. But at the same time she is intelligent. She is struggling with her parents' crumbling marriage and their expectations from her. She is also dealing with a heartbreak and the pain that comes from it. The burden of these things has left her gasping for relief and under pressure from her parents she agrees to an arranged marriage. That's where our story begins, a few hours before the wedding when Disha starts having second thoughts, about her life and descision. Moving backwards and forwards between the time after 10th Board exams upto a few days after the wedding, this follows the story of four youngsters, Disha, Raghav, Kajal and Dhruv. It subtly captures the nuances of a millenial kid's life be it a day out at McDonald's or the things that happen in coaching centres across the country. That is why I called this book relatable, because each of us can find something to identify ourselves with in this book. The language is simple and the narration is linear. So if you are new to reading it could be a good ride or even if you are a seasoned reader and are looking for something light hearted and, this could be refreshing. Go ahead

The starting lines of the book gripped my interest immediately. As I soon found out, there were many instances in the novel where the author made statements which will be quoted often,or,at least, resonate with the readers. Disha's journey felt familiar with many aspects of my own life-disharmony between parents, grandmother's love, crushing, the silly things we do for love, mistaking attraction as love etc However,I had a clue right after a few chapters that the groom would be Dhruv. But it was heartbreaking to see his character cut off ties with Raghav's friends.Or maybe,it was wise because the closer he would have been to Disha, the more pained he would've been. It was sweet to read the portion of Dhruv's wedding speech. Few loose ends appeared too, like what happened after Disha cut her wrist, why she didn't come clean with Dhruv before marrying him,why did Dhruv never reveal his own liking for Disha and that he had hidden the letter because he somewhere didn't want her to be with Raghav. Also,it would have been nice had the author described Disha's life after marriage in little more depth.Like her moments of bonding with Priya and her father-in-law. It seemed quite abrupt how Dhruv changed drastically after learning the truth. The author should've given more clarity on how things progressed so as to lead to separation or worse, alcoholism. Did Disha's parents not try a reconciliation of their children?

When it comes to Friendship I adore The friendship between Kajal and Disha... Kajal supported Disha in every situation..A true friend who listens, supports and can be counted on.. From school days to college life to marriage . she's always with her.
kajal who lived in mumbai with her parents..Her parents have a unsuccessful marriage life. They stay in an unsuccessful marriage for the sake of their child...Disha thought that most kids idolise their parents and they want their marriages to be like the one their parents have. But her parents arguing and fighting effected her life. she's not allowed to have a happy and carefree childhood like others. Disha's grandma was The backbone of the family... She was the only reason that her son didn't break the marriage. Daddi (grandmother) a understanding and supporting person. she loves her so much.... It's like one soul two body....when she died Disha felt heart broken.. it's like a part of her also died on that day..she suffering from depression. Her parents, Kajal supported her to overcome from it. Disha's love life was also full of complications..
📕𝑶𝒏𝒆 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 📝𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓 : 𝑺𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝑵𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒂𝒓 💫𝑹𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The story is about college friends.Raghav and Dhruv are College Bestfriends. Raghav had many affairs and had one with Dhruv's younger sister,Priya as well.Wben Dhruv saw this,he broke his friendship with raghav.Disha and Kajal are Bestfriends and they used to share everything with each other. Disha had a crush on Raghav but knowing he is into many affairs she tried to move on but later in life,Raghav fell in love with her and they started dating. When her parents got to know about raghav, they asked him to marry her and since they were in graduation by then,he denied.Disha when fighting her depression of her breakup, got to know that she's pregnant and due to pressure, she aborted. She rejected all marriage proposals except one which came from Dhruv's family.Dhruv used to love disha since school times but never confessed. And they married. The story takes a turn when Disha cannot have a baby and when Dhruv gets to know the reason,he tries to be away from Disha. What is the reason? Will there love be given a second chance? Highly recommended to adults to read this book.Every situation, every person, every mistake deserves a second chance. This book made me realize this fact.
The book is all about second chances. A fast-paced and engaging read with thought-provoking quotes.
The story introduces us to the life of Disha in three different stages - School days, College days, and Marriage. You can feel every emotion of Disha made it real by the author's narration.
The Prologue about arranged marriages is very relevant in reality.
The author has portrayed each and every character with the utmost significance of their own and every one of them has done justice to their respective roles throughout the story. He gives the readers a glimpse of marriages, how important love is, heartbreaks, and true friendship.
Very Apt and relatable for all generations.
I loved the moments between Disha and Daadi and fell in love with Kajal’s character.
The Climax will surely melt your hearts.
Loved these quotes in the book:
Every end is a beginning which starts with a decision. Hurricanes in our lives strengthen the foundations of relationships.
The narration of the book is simple and well written in Sudeep Nagarkar’s style itself which he has carried right since his 1st book with which the youth and his readers connects with him . This is a book which talks mostly about the school and college-days romance where a single youths can take few tips while reading . In the 2nd half of the book when the story moves further and the dilemma of marriage begins is where the characterization of Disha is utilized nicely . I liked how Sudeep has taken the story post-marriage and this is where I found him speaking his thoughts regarding how ideal a married life should be in today’s time . The role of in-laws , how a husband should treat his wife on the first night , how the relationship is grown gradually day by day and how there shouldn’t be any secrets between the two in order to keep the bond pure and lively. This is a topic which deserves to be spoken to the new generation . He has brought everything to the table in A Second Chance . It has all the ability of a bestselling fiction
One time read... This is my first book from the author so I had no preconceived judgement about his style of writing. The story is ordinary, nothing in it screams unique except the seamless storytelling. The narration is gripping and attracted me to finish it one go. The book is relevant for teens struggling with first love and heartbreaks. It covers a whole gamut of emotions from teens to early marriage life. But I was disappointed with how the protagonist Disha's emotional state grew over time, as if she learnt nothing from her past experiences. Every time she would collapse into a helpless state. The book is overall a one-time read, not offering much in terms of story or character graph.
It was a story with strong emotions and characters. Friendship, Love, and marriage, all the events are portrayed in a very simple manner like the typical Indian society and families. Overall a good read, finished in single sitting. Disha's character was very strong and portrayed well considering the author is male.
Simple comprehensible writing style is the best thing of this book..but most of the plot is too obvious to predict..anyways if you have some free hours in hand & you don't want to waste it, then indulge yourself in reading this book..after all the happy ending is all abt to make you feel good..😊
A second chance is a book which will change your opinion about love and arrange marriage. A warm and sweet book which you'll always like to read. A book which will make you relate to your life experiences, (atleast i did relate to it😅) .
Let me give you a disclaimer: This book will definitely make you crave for a life partner like one of the book character.
What can I say about sudeep nagarkar He is one of the greatest author, writer, and gentle personality If you wanted to know more about love, relationship, friendship then go for sudeep nagarkar books My review to this book is Awesoooooommm
A Feel good one it was . How second chances are important in our life and especially when it comes to us . We refuse to give that chance to us. Loved the way it carried me totally, as I completed it in one day. My first ever read of this author. Definitely I am gonna try out the other ones too .
