I am Evie Everheart. As a Life's Blood Carrier, I am pursued by all vampires who want to become All Powerful or to become human again. Which is practically ALL vampires. Basically, I'm screwed.

Then I meet him, the Vampire Samurai and his band of brothers, consisting of another vampire, a fae, and a shifter.
What they want of me, I've yet to find out.

Friend or foe?

I don't know. But as a carrier, all I know is that I must do everything I can to keep the vampires from getting my blood or humanity as we know it, would end.

**Vampire Samurai is a new series in the PULSE Vampires World Series, a New Adult/YA Reverse Harem series appropriate for age 18 and up.

Vampire Samurai is the start of a new RH Paranormal from Kailin Gow.

I have always enjoyed Kailin's writing in previous years. I was really looking forward to this one as I enjoyed the blurb and know the capability of Kailin's writing. However, I was slightly letdown with this one.

Vampire Samurai starts off with such promise. We get to know Evie somewhat and are introduced to the four men who play a vital role in the story. However, the characters were only surface level and I struggled to see any connection beyond a physical attraction between them all. I needed more development between each of them. They all just came across as sex-crazed young adults and not the connection you normally get in RH books.

I enjoyed idea of the plot, but not how things played out. There was a lot that was glazed over that could have been more developed to give the story more depth. There were a lot of scenes that have this nice buildup and then bam it's the aftermath. I personally love reading about these scenes because it gives the readers the ability to see more depth of the characters and not just this one dimensional idea of who they are.

There was also areas that I felt were too detailed that had no bearing on the overall plot and came across as filler. I could tell that the author wanted to bring the culture into the store, which I am all for. However, when you give details like in a story but forgo the details and depth of scenes that are crucial to the plot, those other details come across as filler and nothing more.

Overall, not what I was hoping for from Kailin. This felt like a rough draft at best or even a script for a movie where the details aren't required. The book has the potential to be so much more for readers.

Whilst visiting her aunt in Japan Evie (FMC) discovers a world that she's ill prepared for. One full of Vampires, Fae and Shifters. Also discovering that she is part of a prophesy and very valuable to Vampires. Making her a hot commodity for them and putting her in danger. With the help of a mixed band of samurai (Haru, Kai, Soru and Reo) who have offered to help her she tries to get prepared for what is coming. I really like Evie's character. She's level headed, strong willed but still witty and funny even with everything going on around her. I don't think I've read enough about the guys to work them out yet but what I have read I like. I'll keep my opinion of them until I've read the next book and with that cliffhanger ending I can't wait for that. A pretty good start though and I enjoyed reading it

A new series by Kailin Gow and it starts of great. So we two vampires, shifter, and a fae who band together to protect the life blood carrier. Haru, Kai, Saro, and Reo have been together for a long time and then they meet Evie and everything changes. Evie is special and this may pose a problem. However she is attracted to the guys. The dynamic with these five is different and I am really interested to see how that changes. As you read you will understand what I am talking about. It does get steamy at times as well. I really liked this story. It does end with a cliffy.

I loved this book. Once I started reading I could not put it down and finished it in one sitting. It moves along at a great pace. The characters are so amazing that you feel as though you know them and no matter what you want to be there with them. The story grabs you and keeps you reading till the very last page. I cannot wait to read the next book in this thrilling series. It is WOW. An awesome read.

I have been looking forward to this book since the author first mentioned it and it was better than I ever expected. I was sucked in pretty fast. The FMC is very special and in certain circles highly prized. Luck lands her catching the eye of 4 men sworn to old values and to protect the world. Life starts to become a blur of work, training, and getting to know the culture(and the guys). I can not wait for book 2!

Wow that ending

Totally loved this new type of supernatural book. Each page keeps you turning until your at the end to be left on such a cliffhanger that it will leave you shocked and desperate to know more whilst picking yourself up off the floor. Evie is such a great character and with the added hot guys Haru, Kai, Soru and Roe you will fall right into each guys grip with how intense and amazing each of them are. Totally worth reading

Good start to the series. When I started the book it was like wow. I didn't want to put it down. Trip to her Aunts house is where it all starts. Can't wait for book 2 and to see how the characters develop through the series.

Not a fan

So firstly this did not play out how I would have expected but that doesn’t necessarily make the book something I don’t want read. What made it frustrating was the story line. It feels incomplete in a lot of places. And rushed in some other areas.

Like Evie’s virginity is a huge part of what makes her the life’s blood carrier. But without any grandeur that you would expect she has sex with Reo, the beat shifter. The preamble or lead to. It’s like she has sex and it’s skated over. Which again with how big a deal her virginity seems be that seems a bit odd.

Then it feels like the relationship between Evie and Kai occurred naturally but all the other relationships seem forced or just out of the blue. And then Evie has zero back bone being this demur girl. But then she is training in the way of the samurai.

My other issue is she comes to Osaka for her Aunt Rose. To get to know her. But then gets swept away by Haru, Kai, Rep, and Saru. But then she makes one demand about being able to spend time with her aunt. To only spend all her time working with Harold and learning nothing about her mothers side of the family. It’s like the aunt get mostly forgotten. The main reason for her demand get glossed over.

With all of this I have to hard pass on continuing the series.

While the storyline was interesting the story itself felt lacking at times and skipped over. There are a couple of scenes that start but then next thing you know it is the next day or a couple of days later. We don’t get to see the full picture. While that is fine here and there it makes the story fill missing when it is most of dramatic/action scenes that are skipped over. I did enjoy the character development and think they have a lot of potential. The story does end in a cliffhanger as well as again before the ending the scene started and skipped ahead so we are not fully sure how we got to that point. The story has major potential and in my opinion it could be an excellent story. I love the idea of the storyline and it’s uniqueness.

Good but a bit rushed

Love the theme but I felt like the characters lacked depth and the relationships were rushed. It seemed like the author was just ticking boxes in order to move the story along rather than spending a bit more time showing how the relationship between each of the main characters develops.

If you've read the Pulse Vampire books, this is a spin-off but a different world. I love it. It feels more urban and grown up. This is the adult steamy spin-off with vampires, shifters, fae, and other supernatural characters.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I read the PULSE books years ago. It was good to be back in that world. I love Evie and the Samurais. I have to say of the four Soru and Kai are my favorites, but it is only the first book. It is about Evie going to Japan to stay with her Aunt to learn more about her mother who she never got to know and her father would tell her very little. Her Aunt owns a ramen shop and that is where all things change. She discovers things about herself and she has to come terms with her new world. I love how she got to have time with each of the guys. It made for a good foundation for all of their relationships. I had not been ready for ending. I need the next one and fast.

Vampire Samurai is a book I picked up through Kindle Unlimited. I had to force myself to finish this one. There seemed like a lot of plot holes and "who would do that?" moments for me. The storyline never came together for me, and I wasn't to fond of Evie. Vampire Samurai only gets a lukewarm rating.
