The best introduction to biologist Jeremy Griffith's world-saving explanation of the human condition!
The transcript of acclaimed British actor and broadcaster Craig Conway's astonishing, world-changing and world-saving 2020 interview with Australian biologist Jeremy Griffith about his book FREEDOM: The End Of The Human Condition which presents the completely redeeming, uplifting and healing understanding of the core mystery and problem about human behaviour of our so-called 'good and evil'-stricken human condition thus ending all the conflict and suffering in human life at its source, and providing the now urgently needed road map for the complete rehabilitation and transformation of our lives and world! In fact, a former President of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, Professor Harry Prosen, has described it as the most important interview of all time!
This world-saving interview was broadcast across the UK in 2020 and is being replayed on radio & TV stations around the world.
This booklet is supported by a very informative website at HumanCondition.com, where you can watch the video of the interview.
Jeremy Griffith (1945-) is an Australian biologist who has dedicated his life to bringing fully accountable, biological understanding to the dilemma of the human condition–the underlying issue in all human life of our species’ extraordinary capacity for what has been called ‘good’ and ‘evil’.
I was able to watch this when it was broadcast in the UK, and have since reread THE Interview via the online version and have ordered the book. I've studied and known of Jeremy Griffith's explanation of the human condition for some 20 odd years, and after all I've read and watched, I can say that this is possibly the best introduction to Jeremy Griffith's profound explanation of the human condition. It's a brilliant entry point into what can be a daunting and overwhelming subject. So much is contained in the 1 hour interview (the transcript of which is this 48 page booklet): our cooperative heritage; our inability to acknowledge this cooperative past; why we deny it and the excuses we use; how we acquired our moral instincts; the great thinkers that have acknowledged this; and of course the explanation of the human condition itself (the Adam Stork analogy). And importantly, how this understanding of the human condition allows the great paradigm shift and 'rehabilitation of the human race' to finally occur.
As the blurb says, the best introduction to Griffith’s breakthrough explanation of the human condition. It is very succinct, but still covers a lot of ground: what the human condition really is i.e. our selfish and aggressive state; the excuses we have used for the human condition; the real psychological explanation of the human condition; instances throughout history where the psychological explanation of the human condition has been recognised; how it is now such a fearful subject that we find it hard to take in; how nurturing created our moral conscience; how bonobos are currently undergoing this nurturing phase in their evolution; how understanding the psychological cause of the human condition allows us to stop having to prove ourselves through seeking fame, fortune and glory; and how the left-wing has been a false-start to a human condition reconciled world. So it packs a lot in, but the interview format makes it very easy to digest and comprehend. Griffith’s explanation of the human condition is the fundamental breakthrough that humanity has needed to make; and this is the best introduction to it; so this little booklet is beyond value.
A brilliant introduction/complement to Jeremy Griffith’s books in that THE Interview presents the nub of his ground-breaking, and truly world-changing and life-transforming, explanation of human behaviour in the shortest format thus available, and yet still manages to convey the full depth and breadth of his biological treatise. The interview format also allows for commentary and questioning that picks up on questions raised in the reader’s mind (well, it did with this mind!), making it a truly interactive reading experience which is exceptional and engaging. Highly recommended.
This book is a great transcript that is derived from the amazing Interview between Jeremy Griffith and Craig Conway about the Human Condition.
It packs so concisely the main concepts and explanations about our species human condition but in such an informative yet interesting presentation (both in the video and the book). I have watched and read both versions and they never fail to compel my full attention and focus.
If you want to understand why, how, what about Humans and our behaviour — how we became conscious, our cooperative and selfless instincts, our bonobo ancestors, and so much more — ultimately the Truth about Humans...then this is the book for you!
A very concise, clear and compassionate explanation is presented and for me it has done wonders so I’m sure if you read or watch THE interview, you can experience what I have also! ENJOY!
MAGNIFICENT!! You can’t overstate how important this interview is, I completely agree with Professor Prosen. I know it ends the turmoil, conflict and suffering in human life because that’s exactly what it has done for my life, it is just so vital that every human on the planet is given the opportunity to watch it. Jeremy Griffith is absolutely extraordinary in his profound clarity and insight into the source of all our problems of the human condition. In such a short time we are completely provided with ‘the road map for the complete rehabilitation and transformation of our lives and world’ no less, it’s so all-understanding and exciting and wondrous!! I will be sharing this absolutely breakthrough understanding from now to kingdom come! Humanity is FREE!!
This summarises the most wonderful breakthrough for mankind's understanding of ourselves. It is a ray of light in the sea of darkness engulfing the world, all born of a deep insecurity that has plagued us since consciousness emerged. A must read and a must understand.
After listening to the incredible interview between Craig Conway and Biologist Jeremy Griffith on the World Transformation Movement website (which goes for about an hour), I then read this transcript which helped me to synthesise all of the topics that were covered.
A well laid out and concise booklet, I also liked the pictures and illustrations that are used throughout which demonstrate and connect the human condition with the underlying science of how consciousness developed. With the history of human behaviour explained, Jeremy Griffith has been able to make sense of what is happening in the world right now and compassionately reconcile the good and destructive/bad sides of ourselves.
A psychological awakening in desperate need- all of the suffering and devastation can be stopped in its’ tracks with this breakthrough understanding, onto reading FREEDOM next and learning more about the new world to come.
A must-read for anyone who seeks to understand human psychology/behaviour, from world-leading biologist Jeremy Griffith whose work combines completely new insights using a incredible and rare understanding of everything man has learnt to date … in biology, primatology, literature, psychology. Definitely read and take it from there, as it’s an awesome summary of/intro to his comprehensive book FREEDOM.
Denial of self-bias is a psychosis and an emotional prison… otherwise known as “The Human Condition”.
Its is a very understandable paradox that is wonderfully exposed in a story about a stork named Adam.
This interview lays out a whole and entirely new truth lasagna 😊 that you will begin to really appreciate, even when it exposes some of your own self-bias which can be uncomfortable, but so soooo freeing!
Craig Conway asks some really good questions and my absolute favorite part is that I get to hear the Story of Adam Stork again! It’s an allegory; a wonderful complement and extension with the application of the scientific method and a powerful logical proof of concept, to the insightful and alarming picture of humanity that Plato painted in his powerful “Allegory of the Cave”. Griffith’s work also complements the work of Carl Jung and so many others who assumed that the essence of humanity is good and not bad… an expression of the infinite, divine… one of nature’s latest developments… and most wonderful gifts, when we rediscover that we are truly the heroes of the entire story of life on Earth! Everything is easy after that.
Oh, and my favorite part of the story is when Adam is sitting down calmly with his amazing moral instincts and simply explaining about this new kind of thinking that is different and perhaps nature’s greatest gift, our intellect; our “conscious”, self-aware, taking-in-experience-and-reaching-for-an-understanding-of-cause-and-effect… cleverness… we are whole minded again! Adam is in awe of his moral instincts and thanks his lucky stars for the integrative meaning of life. Very cool 😊
Read this booklet (is also free online). Watch the Interview, online too. The payoff here is that we humans stand up now and turn this shick-show mess that we’re pounding out on this planet around! All that ends when we clear out that self-bias once and for all with just a simple and fun story about some storks and some biology and some fresh new looks at some age-old questions.
Also highly recommend FREEDOM the book, an even more full and thick truth lasagna. Absolute breakthrough stuff if you can handle it. 😊
Grab hold of this most wonderful gift to the world because this little book presents the most astonishing interview. It delivers the breakthrough biological explanation of the human condition and deals with the crux issue before us as a species. All the real questions about human life are answered right here in this absolutely brilliant presentation, ‘It is the rational, biological explanation of us humans and holds the deeper, lasting solution to the chaos and suffering in human life.’ As Jeremy Griffith so beautifully explains, our human story is so heroic, we have had to be so brave and now we are finally understood, defended, redeemed and liberated. This is the most precious and important interview - the march to freedom for the human race is on!
At the root of all the ailments in the world lies human behavior. our seeming inability to address issues that threaten the future of the human race. Egocentricity, self interest, outright selfishness and total disregard for the well-being of others is the almost 'accepted' norm of society. A holistic approach can save the day and Jeremy's breakthrough research and findings in this regard is certainly the light at the end of the tunnel. An absolute enthralling read that impacted profoundly on my own world view and resulted in relieving and liberating understanding of myself and humanity as a whole. In short, selfishness is disintegrative whereas unconditional selflessness is the glue which can save the day for us humans. Jeremy has not just identified the Psychosis of the Human Condition, but imparts sound advice on how to deal with Human Condition and the related suffering and upset it creates in the lives of mankind. The statement 'The book that saves the world' could sound far-fetched at first but after reading this and other books by Jeremy, I am a believer.
This is a cracking interview between Englishman Craig Conway and Australian biologist Jeremy Griffith. Griffith explains how being able to understand human development since the emergence of consciousness around 2 million years ago, allows us to finally understand our psychology and leads to personal and global transformation. And Conway cites his own journey as evidence of how exciting and possible true transformation is. This small book, with its glossy cover and colour pictures, is a great accompaniment to watching or listening to the video/audio of the interview, especially to help absorb some of the concepts presented. Highly recommended.
This little book is an incredible explanation of how and why we humans are the way we are. In fact it is THE explanation that can and will save the world. If you want to transform yourself and contribute to transforming the world, then start with this book before moving on to the expanded explanation in Jeremy Griffith’s book Freedom. This is a scientific explanation that explains, and solves, our human condition, which is our capacity for good and evil, and this is what is causing all the terrible problems in the world. So get ready to have your socks blown off, this will change your life!!
The concept of an earth without all the disturbing elements and the ramifications of our own behaviour is almost impossible to imagine until you read this transcript and or listen to The Interview. This short book explains exactly what we intuitively know about ourselves and just how excitingly understanding can change our own behaviour and subsequently the future of the human race. Take the time to read if you won’t put it down.
This book contains the transcript of the interview of Jeremy Griffith by Craig Conway, on the subject of Jeremy’s explanation of the human condition. It represents a terrific introduction to the human condition and its clash between our instincts and intellect in us humans, that is now explained and thus solved. This conversation comes from the perspective of now being able to understand humanity’s situation starting out from acknowledging the basic unjust and unlucky criticism leveled at us, coming from our dictatorial instincts when resisting our minds departure from its enforced orientation, that has had humanity psychologically in its grip since the emergence of our fully conscious mind around 2 million years ago, and which is firstly now through this explanation loosened. So this is a wonderful time where we can know about the difficult situation we have been in as a species, and understand how that difficult situation is responsible for all that’s been seeming bad about us, and thus how we’re really in truth all very, very good, which Jeremy always in his publications about the human condition stresses as the main point of importance that can be understood through the explanation of the human condition. There’s so much that can be understood with having this framework of understanding, and this discussion takes you through the basic parts of it that is essential to know to get a full grasp of the basic understanding of what our condition has been, how it’s now solved, and what that means for us. The conversation really takes you beyond the usual stuff, into full naked understanding of ourselves and our world, and it’s really a magical place to be in, and all that is accessible to you through this book, so I can’t say other than that it’s just a fantastic thing which I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone.
This is the most comprehensive and world changing interview concerning the Human Condition that has ever been presented. It encompasses many years of research and dedication by Australian Biologist Jeremy Griffith into finding The Answer to why humans behave the way they do and how with a true understanding of the Human Condition humanity can change the way they see the world and with true self knowledge bring about true happiness and peace to the world. Jeremy is interviewed brilliantly by British actor Craig Conway allowing the viewer to get a very important insight into the Human Condition. I highly recommend this all important interview to all those who seek true understanding.
The Interview is the most accessible presentation of Australian biologist Jeremy Griffith's explanation of the human condition. It is the culmination of over four decades of fine-tuning the original presentation. The brilliance is that Griffith, in wonderful, natural collaboration with British actor Craig Conway, has masterfully condensed his wide and expansive treatise on human behaviour into one hour of thoroughly engaging video content - or in the case of the reader - this short paperback. But don't be tricked into thinking that the size of this book somehow lowers it's importance! Nothing could be further from the truth! Indeed this book presents THE TRUTH about human nature and all the incredible ramifications that stem from that. In fact, if you haven't come across Griffith's simple but fundamental explanation of the clash between our instincts and intellect before, be prepared to have your existing psychology shaken and questioned in the most profound way! Experience over many years of promoting this explanation has uncovered that it's common that, due to the subconsciously confronting nature of the explanation, many can suffer from an initial "deaf effect". However the wonder and brilliance of The Interview is that thanks to the interactive format and the masterful content, it cuts through any subconscious resistance to leave the reader with a clean, simple understanding of why things are the way they are and, excitingly, how we can individually and collectively begin to rehabilitate the angst ridden state of the human mind, and all the craziness that stems from it.
Definitely one of the most captivating explanations of human behaviour that I’ve read. Jeremy Griffith covers so much of our species incredibly heroic story in a concise and truly engaging interview. He uses great quotes from influential thinkers and wonderful colour images to illustrate humanity’s ongoing struggle with its “human condition”. This is just one of those books that I couldn’t put down until I’d finished the whole thing. Griffith’s depth of knowledge on this topic is astounding, and his explanations are so clear. An essential read for all those interested in the “why” behind humanity’s current state of affairs. I can also highly recommend watching the interview online, it’s a real breath of fresh air.
The booklet of the transcript of THE Interview is the perfect introduction to Jeremy Griffiths explanation of our human condition. It comes right to the point and explains human behavior at it's core. The questions asked by host Craig Conway are on point because I am sure most people would have similar questions while reading it. And Jeremy Griffith addresses all of them in a very logical and rational way. Using an analogy of a Stork to explain how the conflict within us humans arose is just a brilliant way to help people understand what happened to us humans. (Spoiler alert: the analogie has quite some parallels to the biblical story of Adam and Eve but with a very different outcome) Jeremy Griffith establishes with the help of science the fundamental goodness of all humans within a few pages and by doing so laying the foundation for a better world. A world without suffering is not a unrealistic dream anymore, this understanding provided by Jeremy Griffith will lead the whole of humanity into a bright future. So this is definitely the most fascinating interview I've ever seen.
I would recommend everyone to read this little booklet as soon as possible.
Incredible interview and introduction of Jeremy Griffiths breakthrough understanding of humanity´s ability for ´good altruistic for the sake of all actions´ versus ´terrible self-centered immensely egoistic evil actions´. Why do we behave the way we do? Jeremy explains this from a biological base in a way that I never heard of before. It was a profound wake up moment for me, and also a huge relief in the sense that our behavior is now explained. The human condition has been solved! It´s really a must read for anyone who truly wants to know what´s going on in the world and especially for those who do not buy into the currently more accepted explanation that we are at base egoistical and not at base selfless fully compassionate beings. This little nugget is packed with information and as I said a must read if you want a good introduction and overview of Jeremy Griffiths breakthrough understanding of the human condition. This is simply fantastic!
Yes, yes, yes to life and understanding and meaning and everything you thought you knew about humanity but really didn't because NO ONE explained anything completely honestly to you when you were a kid and you were desperately trying to work out what the *@!# was going on!!! This interview will give you that. You know it's real from the first words and the absolute sincerity...and then logic....and then revelation upon revelation...yes yes yes!!! A must read. If you read it every night before you go to sleep you will dream of all that will be for kids in the future who will be told about the human condition and why it had to be this way and how it can now all end and our real lives can begin. I love it!
An absolute must-read for everyone who wants to understand the human condition, which is our contradictory behaviour and the eternal question of whether we humans are good or bad. By offering this truthful explanation of our condition, the deep psychosis in humans is revealed and the old excuse that we behave the way we do because of our selfish genes is debunked and replaced by the real defense for our seemingly bad behaviour. This real defense – the instinct vs. intellect explanation presented by Jeremy Griffith – allows us to acknowledge our upset and understand why we have had to be so competitive, angry, egocentric and all the rest of it, and by doing so, it lifts the burden of guilt from our shoulders and liberates us from the human condition and thus saves the world!
An Australian rock band called ‘Hunters and Collectors’ sang a popular and prescient song in 1993 about a dream of marching in an army in search of the Holy Grail. The famous Harvard biologist EO Wilson has since said, “There is no grail more elusive or precious in the life of the mind than the key to understanding the human condition”. But it is the Australian Biologist Jeremy Griffith who has indeed synthesised this longed for grail, THE true Holy Grail of the human journey - the first principles based, fully accountable, wonderfully liberating explanation of our tortured Human Condition.
With the knowledge he has presented we can as a species and as individuals be completely redeemed and psychologically healed. This publication (The Interview - TI for short) is the transcript of Jeremy Griffith being interviewed by British actor Craig Conway in mid 2020. In it you will have the most accessible form of the understandings which Griffith has served up in his nearly 50 year odyssey. This very digestible condensation of the ideas is a perfect introduction which will stop you in your tracks. It will turn the world as you know it on its head. You will want to follow it up by reading Griffith’s slightly longer treatise, Transform Your Life And Save The World (TYL). Both TYL and TI set the stage for the comprehensive masterpiece 787 page document Freedom - The End Of The Human Condition.
Find out why what you’ve been taught about human nature has been a necessary excuse, a noble lie that we heroically conjured to survive eons of desolation, embattled, searching, cast out from our soul’s home, only now to be able to return. The Holy Grail isn’t a myth, it’s the liberating and redeeming answers humanity looked forward to through the ages. Indeed it is nothing less than the answers contained in the words of this publication and all Griffiths works on the Human Condition.
In Blood Orchid: An Unnatural History of America, Charles Bowden invites us to look a lot deeper for the cause of America’s (and, by inference, the world’s) problems:
“Imagine the problem is not physical. Imagine the problem has never been physical, that it is not biodiversity, it is not the ozone layer, it is not the greenhouse effect, the whales, the old-growth forest, the loss of jobs, the crack in the ghetto, the abortions, the tongue in the mouth, the diseases stalking everywhere as love goes on unconcerned. Imagine the problem is not some syndrome of our society that can be solved by commissions or laws or a redistribution of what we call wealth. Imagine that it goes deeper, right to the core of what we call our civilization and that no one outside of ourselves can effect real change, that our civilization, our governments are sick and that we are mentally ill and spiritually dead and that all our issues and crises are symptoms of this deeper sickness. Imagine the problem is not physical and no amount of driving, no amount of road will deal with the problem. Imagine that the problem is not that we are powerless or that we are victims but that we have lost the fire and belief and courage to act. We hear whispers of the future but we slap our hands against our ears, we catch glimpses but turn our faces swiftly aside.”
In The Interview, Jeremy Griffith gives us a terrific introduction not only to the insightful and comprehensive explanation of the real problem; the human condition, but also why, even in the face of such a compassionate explanation of why we are the way we are, we "turn our faces swiftly aside”. Read the book, watch the video. Judge for yourself.
Prior to having read THE Interview booklet I had already watched the Video of it a few times. I‘m not quite sure what word would do justice to the power and importance of Jeremy Griffiths explanation of our human condition. But it surely is fascinating, amazing, astonishing and wonderful to finally have a truthful explanation for all of human behavior. And this little booklet provides the perfect introduction to this world saving explanation. The images and diagrams in it are so helpful to get a better grasp of everything as the human condition is such an off-limit subject. So this booklet definitely is a MUST READ, not only for those who are interested in human behavior but for ALL. It not only leaves one with a better understanding of self and all humanity but with a deep feeling of hope and excitement for the future of all of humanity and this planet.
This is an excellent overview of the all important work about our human condition, by Australian Biologist Jeremy Griffith. The Interview transcript is a wonderful way to explore the biological explanation of our species psychosis and how it will now be healed with this information. It’s a must read for anyone looking to understand this work, and the interaction between Craig Conway (the Broadcaster and Interviewer) and Jeremy Griffith is extremely helpful in understanding the key points. I recommend this very highly, as the information presented is vitally important for us humans to learn about.
In 30 minutes you will learn about the big conflict that is in all humans out struggle with good and evil. It is very clear and beautifully illusrated with pictures and drawings to underline and clarify the message Jeremy Griffith explains to us.
This amazing Australian Scientist literally takes psychiatry, biology, anthropology, theology, philosophy, in fact, pretty much all the ologies and pieces them together like a giant rubic cube in this fantastic little book. Now that’s worth reading
A book for an interview? Well, this interview categorically deserves a book. As Craig Conway, the interviewer says: "With the psychological rehabilitation of the human race now possible, you need to stop what you are doing and watch this interview".
In the interview, Craig Conway asks the Biologist Jeremy Griffith to explain how biology can bring about "the psychological rehabilitation of the human race".
Through Craig's questions, we receive an introduction to Jeremy Griffith's explanation of the origin of our ‘good and evil’ stricken so-called human condition. Jeremy explains Humanity's all-pervasive "human condition" is a psychosis, where "we are, so brutally competitive, selfish and aggressive that human life has become all but unbearable". He explains how this psychological conditional is different from the savage, must-reproduce-our-genes instincts of other animals.
Jeremy describes how our ape-ancestors must have lived in a Garden of Eden-like state. How we over-came the survival of the fittest limitations of genetic selection, so that our ancestors evolved into a cooperative, caring and loving species. He illustrates how this self-less nurturing focused environment liberated consciousness and resulted in a conflict between our instincts selfless orientation and our consciousnesses need to experiment and understand.
Jeremy explains why this instinct vs intellect explanation hasn't been taught in our schools, how our ape ancestors acquired our instinctive cooperative and loving moral conscience.
Finally, Jeremy explains that our way out of this horrendous predicament is to use the understanding of our biological evolution to ameliorate our psychological human condition.
So, I'm going to get 100% behind Craig Conway on this — Stop what you are doing right now and go, read this book or watch the interview. Humanity's very future depends on you understanding the simple biological history of our species. This interview is a great way to get that understanding.
Why are you still reading? Go read or watch the interview.
A clever idea to cast a book in the style of an interview. I’m a massive fan of podcasts so the concept of a transcript being produced on the back of such a solid and comprehensive interview as this had me hooked. The topic of the human condition is profound (the epitome of an understatement), and while Griffith’s work is not overly complicated it does require immersion and a second or third mindful listen, so to have an accompanying book is really helpful in getting my head around the science (psychology, primatology) and the cultural and literary references. My only gripe is minor, and more a reflection of my own impatience to understand Griffith’s ideas: it’s kind of vexing to read a book that is explicitly described as the entry point to the author’s more comprehensive publications … just as I feel like I am getting to the finish line of a sprint, a marathon looms before me … but to labour the analogy, this book certainly provides the prefect warm-up!
