Česky krok za krokem 1 is a new A1 and A2 level textbook of Czech as a foreign language. It is a newly revised, expanded edition of the best-selling New Czech Step by Step/Tschechisch Schritt fur Schritt. The new name may be similar to the old, but the content and graphics have been substantially innovated. The publication contains 24 lessons, which use real communicative situations to systematically develop all the language skills, both passive (reading and listening comprehension) and active (writing and speaking). The emphasis is on learning to communicate and actively use Czech in everyday situations. The new generation Česky krok za krokem 1 brings us methodologically sophisticated approaches to working with texts and more communicative exercises and assignments. Grammar is presented in clear tables and with easy to understand diagrams, pictures and symbols. A completely new feature is the original concept of declension models, which are used to form model sentences, helping students to master the Czech declension system. The textbook contains a wealth of photographs and pictures, and the Appendix with a glossary, answer keys and two audio CDs (also free online as MP3 files). Two workbooks, sold separately, are also available for additional practice of the material covered in the textbook. The publication's extensive vocabulary, large quantity of texts and detailed grammatical explanations in English will satisfy the most demanding students of Czech as a foreign language. A second volume, Česky krok za krokem 2, follows up on the textbook and will take students to the B1 level. The second volume has already been published.
