Time-traveling isn’t what Abigail Cross had in mind for her Scottish vacation, nor was a potential marriage to the Laird Aedan Macleod. The fact that the obnoxious, yet hot, and definitely sexy Highlander sees the world very differently than she does, is beside the point.

Aedan Macleod knows what he wants in a wife, and Abigail certainly doesn’t meet his Highland standard, even though he must rein in his desire, because beautiful, opinionated Abigail would never suit as a laird’s wife.

Tempers flare yet passion is undeniable, as Abby navigates her way in seventeenth century Scotland—without toilet paper. When two rival clans threaten the maddening twenty-first century minx who’s captured Laird Aedan’s heart, the mighty Highlander is willing to sacrifice everything to keep Abigail safe.

This book was decent enough. It was like the fat-free, sugar-free version of a time-traveler highland romance.

description

What I mean is, this book was okay the same way those Snackwell's Devil's Food Cake cookies were just okay. Those cookies needed more fat and sugar to taste better and this book needed more character and plot development to read better.

The storyline was kinda so-so and the characters flipflopped on feelings and did things that I didn't agree with. It was entertaining enough, but it was missing some stuff and was a little artificial.

P.S. The author refers to the H's mainly bits by the anatomical name. Nothing screams sexy like anatomical talk in romance novels. NOT.

It was free on KU, though.

2.5ish stars.

This time travel romance had me speaking like a Scot and if I say "aye lass, or dinna or wee problem or meddling" just know that I have been influenced by Aedan and Abigail's back and forth teasing.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review from NetGalley and was surprised by the element of time travel. What started off as meddling in the eyes of the Laird of MacLeod, turned to be something he could not live without and no matter the difference in centuries and civilization, he could not keep away from Abigail.
It was an interesting journey into an interesting time in history and that made it worth reading.

You will never put it down until you finish reading every last word!

Tamara Gill is my first new author. I never read her book. This is my first time and I really liked it.

I never thought I'd be crying when Abby back to Scotland after 4 months+ and found out Aedan betrothed with other woman. My heart bled.

The love story is kinda predictable but I truly enjoyed it.

I always love time travel stories eventhough its impossible.

This book was surprising good. I haven't read anything by this author and I am always a little weary when trying out someone new but I enjoyed this one!

There is time traveling and scotsmen. Is there anything else we need? Now that being said, there were still a few issues I had but nothing too major.

Overall it was a great book and I will be looking out for more from Tamara Gill.

This is the time-travel romance of 17th century Aedan Macleod and 21st Abigail (Abby) Cross

Abby is 21st century modern woman who has always dreamed of going to Scotland. While on vacation and visiting a castle she gets whisked away to 17th century Scotland. This is with the help of Aedan’s meddling sister Gwen. Gwen has the gift of magic, Abby is actually brought to 17th century Scotland by Aedan’s sister Gwen. She doesn't want him to marry the 17th century harlot he has his eye on. Plus she knows her brother Aedan being Laird needs a wife like Abby and feels they are perfect for each other. As Gwen has been watching Abby for a long time.

The problem is they don't seem to even like each other's company - gosh Aedan even thought of killing Abby at first. Even as they demand Abby be sent back to her proper time but soon as are drawn to each other. Then there are villains in at every corner along with malace and treachery. As two rival clan threaten Aedan's 21st century woman The tides of fate soon turn as he realizes no other woman but Abbey will do. Aedan will do anything to keep her from harms way! Yet will it be too little too late? You must read and find out in this captivating delightful read!

Will Abbey stay or will she go? What will be best for Aedan and the clan? I also loved the relationship between Aedan and his best friend Ben ~ though it had heartbreaking moments too.

This book is is a definite for Scottish historical readers. It has all the elements readers love. Filled with breathtaking settings that you can literally smell the heather with exquisite dialogue too. A beautifully written story that is both rich and intriguing. The plotting was just brilliant, with so many twists and turns and non-stop action! I was gasping for air, plus wondering with anticipation and bated breath, what could possibly happen next?

This is my first book by this Australian author Tamara Gill. It definitely won't be the last! I absolutely and unequivocally loved this spectacular read “To Conquer a Scot”. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

It's quite an interesting story, but then I've always loved time travel romance. ;) Who doesn't like Scotland? The story starts with a little mystery. It intrigued me right from the beginning. I wanted to read more and find out exactly what is going on. All the characters are very well written and well developed. I quite liked Abigail and also Aedan. Both are stubborn, headstrong, and willing to fight for what they believe in.

Aedan is looking for a bride. Preferably someone who knows her place and will do his bidding quietly, as well as give him the respect he deserves as Laird. It's very important that he marries soon and marry well. His clan's future might depend on this decision. So he is not prepared for his sister to interfere with such well laid out plan. But apparently his sister has plans of her own and soon Aedan will realise that what he wants and what he needs are entirely different things.

Abigail is visiting Scotland for the first time. She just needs are break and also desires to soak in the history. But weather hasn't been too kind so far. But the she suddenly finds herself in a different time. It's so hard for her to believe what is happening but one thing is for sure; she doesn't belong here and she must return to her own time as soon as possible.

Aedan and Abigail never thought that they will fall for each other. But fate has other plans for them and soon they will realise that staying apart may not be possible for them. They are meant to be or so Gwen thinks....

I quite enjoyed this historical romance with time travel. I think the story is quite intriguing, although few chapters before the ending seemed pointless and little boring but then maybe it was because I read the whole book in one sitting and story seemed to be dragging. Maybe I should've taken my time with this book to enjoy it more. Nevertheless, I still loved it and would definitely recommend it to historical romance's fans.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

I enjoyed "To Conquer a Scot" by Tamara Gill, but I wasn't in love with the main characters, Abby and Aeden. Abby is a modern, 21st century woman, and Aeden is a 17th century scotsman. Abby is brought back in time because Aeden's sister Gwen believes Abby is her brother's soulmate. Aeden isn't happy about this an neither is Abby. In fact, Aeden contemplates killing Abby so that he can get her out of the way.
But Aeden needs a wife and the highland games are getting underway so that he can choose a future bride. Abby and Aeden, even though they constantly clash, decide to work together to find Aeden a perfect bride.
I didn't feel the love and attraction between these two. One day they can't stand each other, as before mentioned Aeden contemplating Abby's murder, and then all of a sudden they are agreeing to a 17th century friends-with-benefits affair. Didn't feel realistic.
I finished the story and eventually even came to (kind of) like the main characters. Some of the story wrapped up way too quickly and some parts lingered way too long. A few passionate scenes, but nothing erotic. I would recommend this read to readers who enjoy time-travel books, the more I read of them I decide that they aren't quite my thing.

I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I had to give this book five stars because I just never wanted to put it down. It was a great story and I always wanted to find out what would happen next. I loved the characters and the world building was fantastic. This was my first time travel book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It really makes one wonder if they would be willing to give up everything they have ever known and the comforts of today to live 400 years ago for love.

Abby was a solid main character. A modern twenty first century girl, she knows how to stand on her own and is definitely opinionated. The only thing about her that I'm not sure how I feel about is how she took finding herself back in 1601. While impressive, she took it all quite well and believed it right away. Even faced with what she finds herself seeing, I just don't know how many people would still accept it that fast. Even so, it did make the story move on well.

Aedan was also a solid main character. As laird, there is always something demanding his attention but he always tries to put his people first. Making that harder would be his sister, Gwen. It's about time that Aedan marries and has heirs. He knows what he wants in a wife, but his sister knows better and she will put them all in danger to prove it.

Abby is on vacation in Scotland by herself. Finally a day comes when it's not raining and she decides to walk to the nearby castle. When she goes inside this little hut just outside of it, everything spins and then goes black. And when she comes to, she finds she is no longer in her time. Her first interaction with Aedan is probably about as bad as it can be when she flees the hut, runs right into him, and then throws up on his boots before passing out. When she wakes up, she's told that Gwen had pulled her from her time to theirs in order for her to marry her brother, Aedan. Needless to say that neither Aedan nor Abby are too thrilled with this. In fact, the two of them drive each other crazy with their attitudes, arguing all the time, and pushing each to their limits.

Despite both of them demanding Abby's return right away, Gwen can't do it until the original magic has worn off. So Abby has find a way to live thru it in this time that she so clearly does not belong. She really does well though. She had arrived just before the highland games were to happen, so she gets to watch them. Which was something that I also enjoyed learning more about. But as the days pass, she finds her attention falling more and more on Aedan. As does Aedan's attention always stray back to her. Their interactions were always so very entertaining.

Eventually the two of them can't ignore their feelings anymore and they give in. A lot. It's actually believable and kind of sweet though. So many things end up happening each time they think that happiness is theirs for taking, which always complicates everything. There are a lot of decisions to be made, enemies to deal with, and consequences to consider. But in the end, their love may just transcend time.

I do have to say that sometimes I think the cause of conflict felt a little contrived in order to force a specific outcome. It did make it interesting that every time I thought things were settled, something else happened though. I loved Aedan's best friend Ben, so what happened with him at the end bugs me a little bit. He was just so much fun and such a great guy that this almost seems cruel.

Overall, I love it. And while I have no idea what the next one will be about, I can't wait to check it out.

A compelling page turning romance that took me through a gamut of emotions from chuckling to crying. I’m not normally a fan of time travelling novels & Highlanders don’t make me weak at the knees, I was intrigued by Gwen in the prologue but I think what really drew me in was Abby’s idea of a Highlander matched my own so I thoroughly enjoyed having my opinion along with hers changed. Aedan was tall, broad & very handsome & gave the impression of being a dour Scotsman but he had a decidedly soft centre, he was kind, his clan respected him, as he was fair & loyal. Abby was a feisty twenty first century woman who was strong & outspoken who missed many of the modern day necessities particularly toilet paper. Both had known heartbreak & weren’t looking for love but their attraction was immediate & Oh that first kiss on the stairs SO hot & their attraction sizzled. The pace of the book was very good & I read it in under a day, which in itself shows how much I enjoyed it

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Time travel romance.

This is a good story. There is some humour in the differences between modern times and ancient Scotland, esp regarding the treatment of women.

My Thoughts:
A meddlesome sister in medieval times. A less than happy young woman in modern times. A spell that brings present day to the past!
These are the elements of this well written, comical at times time travel romance by one of my favorite authors of historical and time travel romance novels.
Can this medieval hero and this twenty-first century heroine make each other happy? Will Abby deign to stay in the past without the comforts of 2017?
As per usual by Tamara Gill I was not disappointed in this read.
I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 4 of 5 flames.
This book is both delightful and at time comical.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the author via personally sent pdf.and the publisher via Netgalley.

Tamara Gill does an amazing job of telling the tale of a modern day woman who is transported back in time to the Scottish Highlands. Unlike other time travel stories, Abigail actually doesn't want to stay at first - she misses all the modern conveniences of the 21st Century. Of course, that is before she comes to know the Laird Aeden.
The characters go back and forth about why she is here and when she can return. All of this is in the midst of a Highland Games tournament being held to help the Laird pick a wife (as well as help him form alliances to battle an enemy).
Just when I thought everything was going well and I was about to see the Happily Ever After, Ms Gill takes the story in another direction. The unexpected turn is what makes this story different from all the other time travel romances around. How she manages to bring the story to an end is part heart-breaking and part heart-warming. This is definitely a romance worth reading.
I received an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This was the first book I have read by this author and so very glad I did! We start off in the 21st century with Abigail Cross, who is on vacation in Scotland by herself and feeling pretty alone. She visits the ruins of a cottage connected to a nearby castle and finds herself transported back to 1700 Scotland. Impossible you say? Certainly not when Gwen, the sister of the current Laird Aedan MacLeod, has special powers that have been passed down through the centuries. Gwen pulls Abby back in time so she can become her brother's wife. Of course nothing could be that simple with feisty Abby who just wants to go back home!! It does not take long before attraction arises between her and the Laird and that is where the fun starts! The author pulls you back in time with her descriptions of the life in Scotland and the emotions of the characters. Humor, intrigue and even sadness are just a few of the feelings I had while reading. This is a story that will keep your attention and not let you go until the end. Cannot wait until the next book in this series! Well done Tamera Gill!

To Conquer a Scot, by Tamara Gill. This little Gem of a love story is focused more around the love interest of Abigail and Aedan. From the start I love these two characters. I found their relationship very entertaining. Not once was I tired of reading the back and forth strong dominance of character between the two.
With Abigail, whose a independent woman from the future and Aedan, whose a Scottish Lord of the 1700’s, let’s just say the two minds could not meet. The drama around this flirtatious relationship was humorous to read. I found myself really wanting the two to get together. I Ike the easy read of the book and the plot of the book. The romance was a slow burn, but the desire and needs that Aedan and Abagail lusted for made this book a quick read or me. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!

Aedan, Laird Macleod has two sisters, Jinny and Gwen. Gwen has a touch of magic in her and she decided, her brother needed someone special. So she brought Abigail Cross across time from the twenty first century to the seventeenth century, for him. She was his soul mate.
I did shed a few tears, when they got separated. Everything about this tale was wonderful. The characters, the descriptions and the plot. The plot was unusual and there was a lot going on but it was exciting, fun and very racy. There was battles, a vicious female, some nice ones also and so much love. .I enjoyed the camaraderie among the Scots and the family members. The support they gave to each other. I hope you like this book as much as I did.

I have read several of Ms. Gill’s books and really liked them but normally do not read time travel stories. So glad I read this story. Challenges of the 17th century are not always easy to get around. Just ask Abigail and Aedan. I liked that Abigail did not try to change the past but kind of went with it even though she hated some of its inconveniences. There were some tear-jerker moments and some laughing times. Will Abigail stay with Aedan, will she demand to be returned to the 21st century, will Aedan fight for her? Love….

Naughtiness 4*

Wow does not do this book justice, I'm trying tu figure out a word that would but at present cannot find one, but rest assured I utterly loved it. Tamara never ever fails to move me and captivate me in her books. Just when I think I've read her best book ever she ups the ante in the very next book.

As always I will never give spoilers I can say though that I loved, raged, laughed and wept with sadness and joy throughout this whole book, every emotion you could connect with very easily as you were drawn in by not just the story but the characters also. I utterly loved the epilogue and highly recommend this book to all who love romance and adventure with a little magic, I defy anyone who is a true lover of romance not to love it.

Thank you so much for writing it Tamara, can't wait for the next of your books.

While I love Scottish time-travel books, I didn't connect with this one. There were so many random conflicts that most never really landed in a way that got me invested. The book was structured like conflict - solution, sex, conflict - solution, sex, and so on. I guess after a couple of those cycles, I had trouble caring. 3 stars

This was a cute and funny time travel romance. Abigail is a twenty first century woman and gets sent back to 1601 Scotland. She meets Aedan - his sister is the one with magical abilities whose gift sent Abigail there in the first place - and eventually the two of them fall in love. They have to conquer not only their individual differences but also era-specific challenges. This was an entertaining story and a nice light read!

Tamara Gill has done it again. She has given us a book that is an unusual spin on time travel with passion, romance, clans, a headstrong and lovely heroine and one very hot Scot. As I read the opening lines, I knew that I was in for a wild and interesting read. The twists and turns kept me quickly turning the pages until I reached the end. Another reviewer said that she was gasping for air from the non-stop action. I couldn't agree more.
This book will leave your heart beating quickly and your pulse racing.
I highly recommend it!

I'm waffling between a 2 and 3 star rating on this one...

Aedan's sister has been searching for the perfect match for her stubborn brother. When she stumbles across Abby in the 21st century, she knows she's the one for her brother. Using her magic, she brings Abby back to their time in the hopes that Abby and Aedan will hit it off and live happily ever after. However, Abby is not happy with being conjured to a different time and Aedan is none too thrilled with his meddling sister. While these two have some chemistry, Abby doesn't belong in his time, and once she's able to travel through time again, she will be going back home.

I love time traveling romances, especially when there's a sexy Highlander involved but this one just didn't do it for me. It took me a little bit to connect with the characters in the beginning. I was a little surprised that Abby took to her new surroundings so fast. There was no, "I'm dreaming. This isn't real", she just knew she'd been pulled back in time. Now, I hate it when a character fights it tooth and nail for pages upon pages, but a little pause from Abby would have been nice. I mean, if I was teleported back or forward in time, my first reaction would not be acceptance. However, once Abby got settled into her role as a distant friend of the Laird's, I started to connect with the characters a bit. I loved that even though these two had an attraction to each other, they knew nothing could come of it.

However, the conflict that the author brought about was a little annoying and boring at times. Not only did you have the whole time-travel thing, but of course there was a simpering way-too-young girl who was hoping to secure a marriage with Aedan, and to top it off there's an angry Laird from another area who mistakes Abby as his runaway betrothed. While the simpering girl didn't bother me, the continuous, "you are her!" "I am not her!" conversation that went around and around and around for chapters was very tiresome. I got it, this guy really thought Abby was his betrothed, but I could have done without the loop of dialog that we seemed to have gotten stuck on. I will admit, I skimmed over all those pages after a while because I was tired of reading the back and forth of it all. Not only did I feel like a lot of that could have been cut out, but the ending was not my cup of tea. I don't understand what the whole point of it was. I feel like the whole thing could have been scrapped and the story could have ended with their engagement. It just seemed unnecessary and left me, again, a little bored.

While I had some issues with this story, I still enjoyed it. I loved Aedan's character, even when he was brooding. I loved how he was willing to give up his love for the sake of his people. He was a very strong character and was always looking past his needs and his wants to what those around him needed. I also liked that Abby, while horrible with archery, was able to hold her own among those of Aedan's time. While I did enjoy my time with this book, I do not plan to continue with the series.

I'm always on the lookout for time traveling romances that involve the Scots or Irish and this one has definitely been added to my list of favorites!

Abigail Cross is a young American woman from Oregon living in 2017 who has recently taken a vacation to Scotland for research and what she had hoped to be a great time. Things aren't going so well as it has mostly rained while she's there and decides to explore Druiminn Castle on the Isle of Skye. While checking out a quaint cottage with a lovely garden, she happens to touch a clay bottle and then blacks out.

When she comes to, she is met by a woman named Gwen who is wearing period clothing from the 17th Century and is told that magic was used to bring her back to 1601 in the hopes of marrying her brother Aedan MacLeod, Laird of Druiminn Castle, At first she thinks the woman is crazy about the time travel theory until she sees proof of what life would be like in that particular and accidentally runs right into the muscled arms of Aedan MacLeod himself.
Aedan MacLeod is a man who is in need of a wife who will take over his household, produce heirs and be mild mannered. He's dead set against all of these qualities until shortly after meeting Abby who is anything but biddable and more than his match, she's exactly what he needs. That is if he'd stop being so stubborn and admit it.

Abbu and Aedan come to an agreement which includes Abby being willing to partake in the Highland Games, pretend to be a friend from abroad and help look for a wife for Aedan. Seems like a fairly straightforward plan but things don't go quite as planned especially in the potential wife department.

These two come from two completely different parts of the world and vastly different time periods but sometimes what can seem to be completely the opposite, is sometimes the perfect match.

Just when things seem to be going well for these two, a wolf hiding in sheep's clothing shows up at The Highland Games and will throw things completely out of balance, causing Aedan and Abby to have to make a painful decision that could separate them for a very long time.

All is not lost though and fate may yet still have some interesting plans for these two. Only time will tell how they turn out and if they both have the courage to take a leap of faith.

This book was a wonderful mix of adventure, magic, Highlanders in kilts, humor, steamy scenes, the power of friendship and love.

I'm so glad I was given a chance to read this book and I look forward to seeing who is next in this new series!

Tamara Gill is a new author for me and it was an amazing first experience. The fact that she is also an Aussie author was just a bonus!

In To Conquer A Scot we have modern day Abigail Cross involuntarily drawn back to 17th century Scotland by the Laird’s sister, Gwen, who believes Abigail is his perfect match. Gwen believes that her brother, Aedan, has suffered and given up too much to secure his clan and believes Abigail is the only person that can save Aedan from himself.

This writer has penned a book that is truly a page turner. She has a truly engaging, and thoroughly addictive writing style. Her world building is very well done; describing life in 17th century Scotland accurately enough to be credible but tweaked sufficiently (for example: the fact that she is readily accepted as a time traveller and not immediately burnt as a witch) to allow the story to move on and develop at a good pace.

Both the main leads and the secondary characters are extremely well developed. Both Abigail and Aedan had their own personality strengths and foibles which only made them come alive on the paper because despite their flaws, or perhaps because of them, they were both genuinely likeable characters. The secondary cast were also developed as much as was required by the story. There didn’t feel to be any one dimensional, or paper cut-out characters, no matter how minor their role. Everyone was an individual.

There were a few suspense, action, and angst scenes in this book, enough to have a few ‘how will they get out of this?’ moments and to keep the pace of the book flowing and lively, but not too many to detract from the main purpose of the book and that was a character study of the development of the characters and the relationships between them.

The only thing I found missing in this book is the character of Jinny. So many of the thoughts and actions in this book revolve around her and the terrible assault she suffered by a rival clan. Although we learn that she has retreated to a convent, it would have been nice to meet her at some stage, no matter how briefly. However, I’m hoping a conversation between Aedan and Abigail later in the book is a hint of a happy ending for Jinny in a future book.

Overall, I was completely enamoured with my first Tamara Gill book, I could not put it down until it was finished, and I’ll certainly be checking out her other titles.

Review:

In this first installment of this series we get to know Abigail and Aedan. Abigail is brought through time by Aedan's sister to be a bride to him.

I will start with saying that there is some not liking each other at first. Aedan needs a wife, but neither him nor Abi want it to be her. Of course they grow on each other and it was lovely to read that slow build-up for these two.

**spoilers coming up** sorry I hate to do that but I could not figure how to relate my likes without giving away some things

The story is an exciting and entertaining time-travel romance. I liked that the story was written in a style that grabbed my attention and kept me reading. I loved the witty dialogue, that had me laughing at times. I ran the gamut of emotions reading this book, have some tissues ready, just a warning. I was sad when Abi is thrown back to her time, and very angry when she gets back and Aedan had not waited for her, but the ending leaves you happy and was very satisfying. Of course, the story has is spicy, sexy elements too. Abi & Aedan are very sexy together and the chemistry is off the charts. There is a lot of action in this story too, with fighting clans and really bad guys. I hope I did not ruin the book for anyone. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to see where the series leads.

I received a copy of this e-book and am voluntarily leaving an honest opinion.

Laird Aedan really needs to find a wife and marry. His choices are not the best but he needs an heir.
His sister has been looking for a wife for her brother and she feels she has found her...in the future.

Abigail is in Scotland on vacation. While touring a castle and it's land she is whisked back in time. At first she thinks she has lost her mind as Aedan's sister explains why she brought Abbie back in time.
Abbie insists to be returned to her time but cannot be at that time. She meets Aedan and thinks he is arrogant as she is told she wouldn't meet the highland standard. This is the beginning of much angst between the two but there is also attraction.

Several Laird's are coming to participate in highland games and to show their daughter's off to Aedan. He actually asks Abbie if she would help him find a wife. She will pose as a family friend from France, as America was not founded yet.

Will Abbie help him find a wife? Will she return to her time?

Even as their attraction grows, Abbie still plans on returning to her time. Both are jealous when the other is given attention from the opposite sex.

I loved this story! Aedan and Abbie bump heads from the beginning. What really got me was when danger was present, enough that Aedan didn't know if he would survive, and he wanted to keep Abbie safe. Of course I can't go into detail, no spoilers! It just tore my heart out!!

If you love your highlanders, this is a must read!
