Really great book! Very detailed, but not in an overbearing way. Very enjoyable to read, and the characters are very likable and make you get involved in the story. Am I saying very too much? Who cares; this book was great and I can't wait for the next one! If you're looking for a sign to read it, this is it!
I picked up this book because it was free. I figured, why not? I'm quite glad that I decided to download the ebook.
Diary of a Single Wedding Planner is a fairly predictable book. It follows somewhat of a standard formula for a romance book. But, it was fun, and pretty darn clean, and fun, and spoke truth instead of fairy tale nonsense, and it was fun. It really was a fun book laced with humor that was easily and quickly read.
Yes, it has some clichés . And yes, it all works out. In this case, all of that didn't matter. The characters are likable and with flaws. The storyline fits real life, it's plausible. The protagonist is hurting, she still is recovering from a relationship that ended abruptly which caused damage to her being. She gives us a glimpse of the grief involved, and the path she takes to help herself move forward and beyond. It's a fairly accurate portrayal of rebuilding life, figuring out who you are, and trying to get over a lost love. But can she get over her lost love? She doesn't know. Confusion about love and who she loves is well written. Advice given to her is spot on and frankly that surprised me. The advice given spoke about how relationships are hard work which involves sacrifice, selflessness, and choosing to love. Relationships are intentional and active rather than passive. The advice is deep, and issues at hand are deep, but the story overall is not deep. Such is life, for the most part. We can't all be profound, now can we?
This is not about a prince rescuing the maiden type story. It's about rocky relationships, finding oneself, building friendships, selflessness and love. It's life with cliches and stupid phrases and humor. It's not a wow book, or one that will necessarily stick with me. It is a good story that was very enjoyable to read. I was entertained.
Diary of a Single Wedding Planner is the first book in a series. I'm not sure I want to read the next book, I worry that it will turn into a sappy, sexual and very predictable romance book. Part of me wants to leave well enough alone. But, the curious side of me will most likely pick up the next book, and hopefully the characters will stay true to this first book. Hopefully the next book will continue down the path of a fun book that stays honest to the realness of life (with maybe a few clichés).
I didn't really like the diary format. I don't feel like I really had time to connect with the characters or the story because all of the scenes were so short to get on to the next day in the diary. Some of the stories were funny, but overall there wasn't enough detail to really get invested in anything.
I didn't like Cabe as the romantic interest at all. I think that Lillian and Laura had very good points when they were both talking with Tyler about her situations concerning both Dwayne and Cabe, but she didn't really heed either woman's advice. I was really hoping that another man would come into the story and make her realize that Cabe wasn't the one for her. I feel like in a really good book, just like in real life, a woman has to have a good sense of her self before she can be a good partner in a relationship. Even though she ultimately decided she wanted to stay in her job, Tyler just didn't strike me as ever knowing who she was as a person. And honestly, other than talking about how funny he was, I don't feel like we got enough details about Cabe to really understand or care about him.
I felt like there were several issues left open-ended. The author never addressed the fact that Cabe was criticizing Dwayne for doing exactly what he did to Tyler too. Both men left Tyler with little to no explanation for another woman essentially. I realize that the situations were different, but with how close Tyler and Cabe supposedly were before he moved to Seattle it seems about as bad. Also, Cabe never got any resolution with his ex-wife. Shortly before the end of the book, he was drunkenly crying about her memories and wondering if she was ever reminded of him. That doesn't seem like he's ready to jump into a relationship with someone else just yet.
Overall, this book was fine. I just really felt like a lot of the ideas weren't totally fleshed out within the story, and I was missing crucial pieces to really care about what was happening.

This book had me laughing from the get go. Poor Ty and her awful first dates. The romance played out basically like i expected, but i can't really blame Tyler for being oblivious since I basically did the same thing once. the thing about this book, well, it really made me think. About love, about jobs, about good bosses. (Lillian is adorable) So more than being a perfect Rom Com, this book, if you really read it, gives insight to a host of bigger themes.
I absolutly loved Diary of a Wedding Planner written my Violet Howe. From the moment I opened this book up I could put it down so much so that I couldn't wait to Start the next book in the series because I just had to know what happens next. The story follows a single wedding planner who writes in her diary about everything that happens in her life the good the bad and the ugly. Some of the entry's are hilarious and they keep you wanting more. I couldn't get enough of Tyler story and was happy to find out the second book followed the same main characters. I can't wait to find out what awaits Tyler in the next book.
This book was so unfortunately horrible. Tyler is an annoying brat with no actual problems other than the ones she makes up for herself. Cabe is whinny and likes to self deprecate. 10/10 would not recommend.
My first read from Violet Howe and I'm not disappointed! I was cheering for Tyler and Cabe and seriously, when Tyler's ex came into the scene, I didn't know how this was going to end. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
Just started this last night...what a great little read. Not gonna lie, I prefer my female leads to have a little more backbone, but it was so well written that I could completely understand why. Loved her conflict between the fantasy and reality of relationships/marriage and also the little surprise bits of humour throughout the whole story. Well done, looking forward to more!
This was a very cute book that I got for free on my Kindle. I needed something easy to read while I was on my breaks at work and I found this one. The story is told through the diary of a wedding planner named Tyler. She talks about many of the weddings and the mishaps that happen with those, but she also talks about the drama going on in her own life.
I thought the format was very interesting, reading from the perspective of a diary. However, it was not my favorite way to learn the events of the book. The author is limited to remembering events that happened previously rather than experiencing them as they happen in the now. I feel like more detail is expanded upon when the actions are occurring rather than being told what happened.
However, the book did exactly as I wanted: it was an easy, very fun read. And sometimes that's all you really need. There was romance, drama, bad decisions, good decisions, funny mishaps; everything that you might expect to find in someone's diary. Overall, I would say this is a very good summer read.
I really enjoyed reading about the tales of these wedding planners. The fact that some of this stuff actually happens at actual weddings blew me away The things people will do!. I enjoyed meeting all the different characters in this book. Some of them I wanted to take out back and kinda knock them around a bit, but it takes all kinds to make the world go around right? The emotions were flowing with this book. A good read.
The writing was lazy, characters shallow and two dimensional. But the real crime here is the lowkey racism running throughout the book. The white characters sound mostly alike, but the POC in the book are stereotypes that speak like stereotypes, with slang,Spanglish, and AAVE. There's even reference to a character from the hood. SMH. No. Just no.
My excuse for reading this: it was a free download on Amazon and I couldn't sleep.
You'll get everything you expect from a story in which the main characters are called Tyler and Cabe. If you're into that, go for it. (Or better: don't. Romance is fine. Chick lit is fine. But this was just bad.)
A great summer read. Hilarious stories that left me wanting more. I enjoyed the relationship between Tyler and Cabe so much that I am looking forward to the second volume already!
Diary of a Single Wedding Planner (Tales Behind the Veils, #1) - PG13 Violence: none Language: fewer than 135, including deity Sex: no sex, but a couple of descriptive kisses Very similar to *An Event to Remember ... Or Forget* (lovely, by the way), but this was different enough so that I can easily appreciate them both. I LOVE this new-to-me writer. I enjoyed the journey to love for our Main Characters, and even though I got a happily for now, I'm fixing to order the next book. Squee!
Diary of a Single Wedding Planner had me literally laughing out loud and groaning in second hand embarrassment for Tyler! This book is a romance, but it focuses a lot of attention on wedding planner Tyler while she figures out both her professional and personal life. The wedding planning parts in the book were over the top funny! The dating scenes were so awkward, yet funny, and brought up so many emotions. The ending definitely leads into the next book so be prepared to keep reading. Looking forward to the continuation of Tyler and Cabe's journey!
If you ever dreamed of becoming a wedding planner this book might cure you of that notion. When Tyler had her heart broken, she moved to Orlando to start over. She eventually became a wedding planner. The book is written in diary form. In her diary she details the often hilarious details of the weddings she plans and directs, as well as her search for her own prince charming. It is impossible not cringe and laugh simultaneously at the dates Tyler goes on. The book is not truly a romance, although it does contain the beginnings of an HEA. It is more about Tyler navigating the trials that face single women and her own search for happiness. The romance takes a back seat the the friendships Tyler makes and their contributions to her life. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to see what antics await Tyler in the rest of the series.
An entertaining, very enjoyable book that I read in just a few days. I loved the characters and the storyline. It's the first in a series, so I will probably order the next one and see how it continues. Good author!
I added a star because her name is Tyler and that is an amazing female name (not that I'm biased at all. I also took away a star because no one called her Taylor or was overly confused why she has "a guy's name".
But that aside, it was an okay read and very lighthearted.
A lot of funny stories , and I loved Cabe. I found a myself just getting frustrated though with Tyler, and the story seemed more repetitive than it needed to be. Not sure if I’ll read more.
This was a fun read. Tyler is a bit of a mess sometimes and doesn’t always make the best choices. There were some hilarious first dates and wedding planner adventures. I’m interested in reading the next book.
This book simultaneously made me thankful that I no longer have to navigate the dating world and reminiscent of first loves, loves that taught lessons and finally finding the one you were beginning to think didn’t exist! It was like reading a book on the meaning of relationships, but only way more fun. I laughed at the absurd blind dates, giggled and winced at the bride tales, and wished to be able to shake the main character many times over. In the end, girl finally figured it out though, whew. I could read this again and will definitely continue this series!
I really enjoyed this book, but I did find it a little too predictable and repetitive in places. It was good for a nice, easy read but because it was repetitive I found I’d put it down and not read for a few days here and there. However, now I’ve finished it, I can’t wait to read the 2nd and 3rd books!
"Diary of a Single Wedding Planner" is book one in the "Tales Behind the Veils" series by Violet Howe. I have never related to a character in a book as mych as I relate to Tyler. Tyler is single and working as a wedding planner. She goes out on some whacky dates because everyone is always on her about dating. Some of the guys she goes out with had me laughing out loud so much while reading about them. She has a best friend, Cabe, who everyone at work keeps telling her that he likes her and she doesn't believe them and doesn't want to make things weird between them. My favorite part is when there is a wedding crasher at one of the weddings because the groom is a famous fighter. This book is just an all-around good feel book and has you laughing pretty much nonstop. I totally recommend reading this book, and I absolutely can't wait to read the next in this series.
This book wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good enough for three stars either. Tyler is annoying, as the lead character and using the device of storytelling through diary entries was pointless. It also proved to be confusing because I am pretty sure that no one ever records actual dialogue, word for word, in their diary. Just having the events unfold from Tyler's point of view would have been good enough.
The wedding tales weren't as funny as the author thinks they are, at least not to me, since most of the drama was just stupid and unrealistic and the mistakes that Tyler made forced me to question her intelligence. How could she have had a job like event coordinator for as long as she had, without being more organized, less distractible and willing to ask for help when needed. Also, who gets married during the week?? So many of the weddings took place on random week nights; does that actually happen? I know enough to know that people get married on Fridays and Sundays, even though weddings used to be confined to Saturday nights unless your religion dictated otherwise, but the author had weddings on any old night, which makes no sense. We wouldn't have known this though if not for the labeling of each chapter by the date, which wasn't necessary either.
The main point of the story was to get Tyler a boyfriend; I hoped it would end with her on her own, since none of the prospective boyfriends were any good. The guys she went on dates went were ridiculous and her ex, Dwayne, was a nightmare from the beginning and so was her best friend, Cabe (what is up with that name??). Neither one of them was worth a second thought, let alone any woman's affection. Both Dwayne and Cabe abandoned Tyler for another woman who they married - this made some sense in Dwayne's case since Tyler had been his girlfriend. Of course he wasn't going to stay in contact with the woman he cheated on after marrying someone else. Cabe though; let's see, he and Tyler were close friends and this friendship also came to include the woman Cabe ended up marrying. His wife demanded he cut off all ties to Tyler though and move all the way to the other side of the country, which he did. Then, once his wife cheated on him after figuring out she was a lesbian, he moved back to Florida, but didn't let Tyler know he was back in town for several months. In spite of this terrible treatment, Tyler forgave Cabe, never called him out on his unacceptable treatment of her and ended up falling in love with him??? Only in a romance novel.
Since there are two more books focusing on this relationship, I can only hope they eventually have a serious conversation about how badly he treated her. At least Tyler didn't end up with Dwayne; I did imagine though that she would have ended up at his house on Christmas Day, somehow forced or tricked into hosting the holiday meal for his kids and family - that is what would happen in the movie version. It was bad enough that she spent any time with him at all, especially without talking through past hurts and letting him kiss her. Tyler is a weak person and not someone to look up to; she let these men get away with treating her badly without asking for an apology, then just literally walked back into their arms as if nothing had happened. That isn't a good example of how a woman should behave. Hopefully, she will be a bit smarter as the series goes on.

Tyler left her hometown when her ex ends their engagement only to marry someone else a month later. She escapes to Florida and gets a job in a coffee shop where she meets Cabe. Cabe becomes her best friend – they spend a lot of time together – until he meets Monica. Tyler ends up working as a wedding planner and is very good at her job – most of the time – something always goes wrong when she is working with Lillian. I like the diary approach to the story. It is a nice journey of growth and letting go of past mistakes.
