I requested this on a whim...beautiful cover and it has mermaid in the title.
Yup, I will definitely give that a whirl.
How awesome that it ended up being one of my favourite stories this year!!!
The author has an amazing imagination and I really hope she turns this into a series.

Not my typical genre, but the title and cover caught my attention. This was a slow start, but enjoyable read. The magic, mystery and mythology made for a great story once it picked up. I won a copy from Goodreads.

Muriel's struggle with the majestic yet threatening sea moves like waves over a beach. Her charming character darts between sarcasm and humour, injecting levity in the most intense moments.

Mermaid Eclipe by N.E. Carlisle, I thought this book was slow to read in the beginning but got better, this is of course about mermaids and other sea creatures but not a lot of emphasis on how they came to be, the big emphasis is on how important family is to us, and what we would do for each other

Even though it started slow and I felt like I was reading through info dumps a few times, I really enjoyed this book! The ending left me unsatisfied, but in a good way. I'm hoping for a sequel, because I want more for the main character of this book.

I won this book in a giveaway in exchange for an honest review. The first thing that came to mind while reading this book is the Witch Mountain Disney movies. This is a perfect story for another one of those movies. There is the urgency to fix a problem. There is teenage angst. There is dysfunction in the family. There is an overabundance of feelings (way too much repetition of "I love you" stuff and hugs going on by teens to each other. I have grandsons and they laughed when I asked them if they would say that to sisters/cousins/other family members or do all that hugging). So some of the story line was a bit too Hallmark for me.
There was a lot of convenience to their complex and reoccurring dilemmas. It made the story glide along nicely but I believe it could have delved into more of figuring things out instead of poof, the answer is there. And wow, I wish I could travel that quickly across the country. (the humans, not the marine life).
I did not dislike the book. Like I said, I think it should be made into a movie. Maybe an animated movie might make some of the fantastical things more acceptable.

This is a good YA novel with a strong female main character. It’s a fantastical story about family connections and just how much a person will do for her family.The writing and editing are tight (I received a free copy of this book from Goodreads)

Mermaid eclipse is one of those stories that grabs you from the very first page. Once you start, there’s no turning back, you have to know how it ends.
It’s a perfect young adult novel for summer, with the ocean breeze as its backdrop. Light, captivating, and with a magical touch, it’s ideal for reading in the sun, in the shade, or on a rainy afternoon.
The characters are endearing, the situations feel very relatable, and the supernatural mystery sparks curiosity right from the start. This story will earn a special place in your heart. Muriel, the protagonist, is fresh, authentic, and deeply human. Her longing to belong, her bond with her twin brother and cousin, and her unexpected encounter with a magical creature make the novel overflow with tenderness, emotion, and mystery.

I really liked the ideea behind this book. It's not something I read before.
At first the story seemed similar to some old Australian tv shows with mermaids I used to watch when I was younger but after reaching halfway through the book the story takes a turn to stories from the Bible, about nephilims and there is a curse too.
The book is quite fast paced and action packed, but there were some moments when it felt over detailed, mostly in the beginning.
Really recommend it if you like stories with teenagers, magic and legends about mermaids 🧜♀️🧜♂️
The book ended in a cliffhanger and hopefully there will be a second book.

Muriel seems like a fairly normal teen—apart from being a twin—until a family vacation and a fall-out with her beloved (but grieving) cousin upends everything she knows about herself, her family, and the world.
This was a fun read with good character development and fast-paced action. There were a couple of scenes where I felt Muriel was a bit too meta with her own emotions, (which tended to distance me from them as well), but on the whole, I enjoyed this book a great deal, and I would probably enjoy reading sequels as well.

Interesting and Original Fantasy Tale
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It was a unique story. Towards the end of the book I thought the father was going to be the antagonist. It was interesting hearing the family history of travels in San Diego, and Washington.
My biggest complaint is with Chapter 8. This is a 171 page book, and Chapter 8 starts on page 90 and continues till the end. That's way too long. I would break that up into a few more chapters.
