A very detailed interesting book, not only on the Fatima apparitions, but also on the visionaries, their lives, and the cult of Our Lady of Fatima which was allowed by the Holy See. A good book for a detailed overview of the miracles of Our Lady of Fatima.
After seeing the film "Fatima", I decided to read a concise book that I could find about the events for Our Lady of Fatima.
3 children in Portugal had an experience where they saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary, during a time of the beginning separation of Church and State and religion being called superstition. One of the children could see her but not hear her, one could hear her but not talk with her, and the final could hear and talk with her.
The film leaves a few things left out or only mentioned, as the book details, such as the children also being visited by an angel "white as snow" who instructed them on how to pray about six months before meeting the Virgin. Also included is how Our Lady appeared with lightning flashes, an orb hanging by a rope from her neck, and a glowing rosary. She is also called "Our Lady of the Rosary" when asked who she is and is declared the Virgin Mary, though she never says this herself.
The film does a good job of presenting all sides - for example, how the children were read a story about a visit by the Virgin Mary before they claimed to have seen her, the same with the angel. This examines if they were led to believe their story or did they have an imagination. Also how one miracle of a small boy walking was also possible with a remedy presented by a doctor who had said the boy needed to practice walking. In the film, he is said to need more faith.
To show everyone proof she had appeared, weeks after first appearing the Virgin had the Sun dance in the sky in midday - this has been accounted by the many in attendance. A strange occurrence, those there thought the Sun was falling out of the sky at one point. This was also seen miles away.
The eldest of the three became a nun. In the film she is portrayed being interviewed, confronted about other things - like Jesus not being crucified by the hands but by the wrists, so how do those with stigmata explain this - she says simply, "I don't have an answer for everything." Her job, she says, is not to change the mind, but simply to tell the experience.
