If you don’t know you’re in a race, how do you know when you’ve won?
Award-winning author T.N. Baldwin is an Australian who dreamed of writing a novel when he was a tiny boy in primary school. As a tiny man, he made several unsuccessful attempts over the years. Then, one fateful day (October 14th, 2018) he woke with... THE IDEA. He began writing that day. Four months later, he completed his first draft. Over twenty drafts later, he had the first novel ready for release. And The Magicium Series was born…
An English/Drama teacher in his former life, he has lived and taught on three continents. These experiences have broadened the horizons of the boy who grew up in western NSW and Queensland in Australia. Today he lives in NSW with his wife and children – along with two dogs he pretends not to like. In his spare time he plays football and cricket, as well as listening to hard rock music. He has released five novels so far: Discoveries (winner of the Literary Titan Gold Book Award), Disruptions, Disciples, Disintegration and Dissidents. His sixth novel is due for release in 2023.
No creativity whatsoever. Wouldn’t recommend. Would rather be bed ridden with covid and stuck at home with no other books than twilight than read this again.
Australian author T.N.Baldwin's The Magicium Series, Book One "Discoveries" does not disappoint. Baldwin's mastery of language and of the fantasy genre draws you in, writing with a skill that blends humans with their daily struggles to find answers to the unknown and the bizarre creatures that are around them, with near scientific thought processes that create a carefully constructed world with its scrupulously detailed inhabitants.
The way he places two seperate groups, fighting for the same cause, without each other knowing. A pure stroke of genius.
This dystopian adventure is delivered by a well-polished author, whose presence on the literary stage will grow with every novel that he writes. Simply amazing!
I am now onto the second in this series. I highly recommend anyone who likes this genre, to pick up a copy and check it out! (From the novella "Disfigurement", which gripped me from the first page.)
Magicium, a phenomenon created by author T.N. Baldwin and brought to life through the agency of his own spellbinding words.
What is Magicium? It is fresh, intense, dangerous and wonderful.
Baldwin's own Magicium gives birth to a work that is creative, intelligent, exciting, despairing, suspenseful, fun and funny!
Discoveries is unique in that it vividly features Australia's outback landscape in a manner that is tangibly familiar whilst simultaneously superimposed on a world of fantastic beasts, magic and mystery.
Discoveries is a book of action, imagination and emotion. Baldwins novel offers dynamic characters, a compelling quest and the first taste of a series of enthralling reads.
Where is the four and a half star button when you need it?
This debut novel from T N Baldwin is filled with characters that come to life, descriptions that will take your breath away and a new concept that mixes dystopian with fantasy.
If you love fantasy - read it!
If you love dystopian fiction - read it!
If you love science fiction - read it!
If you love travel and learning about other cultures - most certainly read it!
For a debut, this is pretty good. The plot in interesting and keeps you reading. I'm not a dystopian fiction fan in general but the imaginations of dystopian authors is incredible. It took a couple of chapters for me to be drawn in, but once my curiosity was piqued, I had to finish. Some of it was a little passive and drawn out unnecessarily but the bulk was great. Probably appealing more to YA audiences though.
I loved this book, the play on Mythtakes was a great unique name. I really enjoyed the magic (or Magicium, another original name) and the way Carla teaches Logan how to harness his own Magicium. I was a little confused with the multiple storylines following the characters, but I slowly got into it. I thought Angelo would have been a great character to continue through the story, his death was quite sudden.
Overall this was a really good book, with a really good storyline.
Such a unique concept for a book with a believable melding of dystopia and fantasy. Baldwin has written a book with creative worldbuilding, a distinct voice, and authentic, diverse characters. It's also exciting to read a book set in countries other than the US/UK. Magicium: Discoveries subverts tropes of the fantasy genre and has a fresh and engaging system of magic.
This book was unlike any other I have read. It was exciting meeting the unusual characters and learning of the unusual animals. Finding out who was working with each other kept me busy using my brain. I enjoyed reading of all the places everyone went. Thank you for a definitely interesting read!.
A world after fossil fuels have run out. Many parties racing towards a common goal. A fantasy set, at least in part, in Australia. Intriguing. Original. Great concept.
When you read the book you feel like your living it with the characters in the book it seems so real and it's so good you can't put it down as you just want to know what happens next, I was hanging to read the next one couldn't wait its the best
I was introduced to Tom's books by a friend, and found myself wholly impressed by his passion for descriptive storytelling! An interesting and truly unique take on fantasy within the real world. I definitely recommend the Magicium series to fans of the dystopian genre.
Fantastic book, love that it keeps you hungry to read more and busting to see what happens next it's a book you just can't put down, it's a good toilet read too (just saying)
