A teenage boy is transported to a strange, submerged planet where he can breathe underwater. Will he ever return to his world? And is his abduction as random as it first appears? Science fiction and fantasy collide in this exciting cross-dimensional adventure with elements of all your the wonder of Philip Pullman's Northern Lights, the quirkiness of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and an underwater universe that lands you straight into one of Sir David Attenborough’s Blue Planet episodes, all wrapped up with a light-touch suitable for a wide range of readers. When thirteen-year-old Luke finds himself in an underwater world like no other, he can only hazard a guess as to why. Garth, a member of a species from another dimension, has toyed with an extremely powerful computer and mistakenly transported Luke to a place where the rules of Earth mean nothing. Now they must both work together in order to survive. Dangerous quests, mind-twisting concepts and villainous enemies await them... Is Luke’s wrongful abduction completely Garth’s fault or is there more at play? Will Luke ever return home? And can they uncover the mysteries of a world so beautiful yet so bizarre? About the author

Samuel Harmsworth

1 book1 follower
Samuel Harmsworth is an unashamed sucker for science fiction and fantasy, a graduate in Marine Biology and a self-confessed wannabe fish. It is not difficult, then, to understand what might have driven him to write about another world where the hero is not restricted by his biologically-given breathing apparatus.

He grew up in sunny Devon and enjoyed a pleasant upbringing in a small, peaceful village called Bere Alston. His love of the sea started with his regular holidays to Cornwall where he would consistently fail at surfing and end up at the mercy of the currents. Snorkelling, a much more achievable pastime, opened his eyes to what lay beneath the surface. It wasn’t quite enough though. He started freediving, too, plunging into shoals of fish with abandon. Eventually, he went one stage further and learned to scuba dive. Bobbing around eerie shipwrecks off the coast of Dover was an experience he will never forget.

His university degree in Applied Marine Biology at Bangor University, North Wales, only encouraged him. Three years by the sea in the smallest city imaginable with good friends, rocky shores aplenty and enough pubs to make any outing memorable (or particularly unmemorable - see previous point: there were many pubs). He also had one year living in the Port of Dover where he did a range of environmental monitoring and was perfectly situated to scuba dive the many nearby war-time wrecks (though the water of the English Channel was nowhere near as clear as the crystal blue waters portrayed in this book!).

Having finished university, he had the opportunity to go on an exciting gap year, but (rather foolishly some might say) he opted for spending six months writing a book that had been brewing in the back of his mind and simply had to be put to paper. Afterwards, he struggled to find UK-based jobs in Marine Biology and instead spent a couple of months as a disgruntled ice-cream man before finally moving to Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Now he is a Data Analyst by day and a writer by night (or dawn as this is his preferred writing time).

A Great Find

An absolutely inspired story, full of great characters, which throws the odd curve ball at you! Samuel has created an incredible, gorgeously detailed universe. I've thoroughly enjoyed reading it and would definitely recommend it to other fans of sci-fi and fantasy.
