In the best interest of a child is an in-depth chronological view into the life & murder of an abused child under the care & protection of Social Services. A child who named themself Cupcake. Who was tortured and murdered by the one person that was to keep her safe while an agency watched and did nothing.
I’m giving a 5 star rating because I believe everyone should know about little Avery. I’m glad her grandmother wrote this book and shed light on what happened during Avery’s life that led up to her death. There were a few grammatical errors and I did get confused with the name changes. For example calling Brittney “Amy”. I don’t know why it was necessary to change her name since if you google the case it says her whole name. But overall, this book was very sad. Took me a few weeks to finish it because I kept having nightmares, and seeing my own daughter in Avery’s shoes. Truly terrifying and I hope Brittney stays in prison for the rest of her miserable life.
An Unbelievable Story Of A System That Failed A Child.
I first heard Tammy's story and interview on the Suffer The Little Children Podcast hosted by Lane and immediately bought the book.
Tammy claims she is not a writer, but she conveyed every bit of love she had for Avery, every frustration at a corrupt CPS and Social Services, and legal person who made wrong decisions to protect her. I felt her helplessness at knowing her little Ry was going to die and her despair when it finally happened. I feel the emptiness her family feels now that causes mental and emotional issues in them all.
Every angry word she says and every label she places is 100% warranted.
The photos of little Ry before, during, and after tugged at my heart and brought tears to my eyes.
I hope that the hard work she is doing to make a change will pay off.
I googled to find a picture of "Amy". I always wondered what the devil looked like. Now I know.
Tammy's book is a visceral look into the pain Averylee's family felt during their battles with child welfare officials and the family court system. All they wanted to do was save their Cupcake's life, and every possible system failed them and their sweet baby.
This book is Tammy's labor of love and heartache, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
In depth true story of a determined grandmother who vigilantly fought the system in an attempt to save her granddaughter. She's currently trying to change laws to save children in the very system who failed her granddaughter.
