Rate this book
Welcome to Lake Cliff! And welcome to your new happy place. It’s a little dark and we get into a lot of trouble here, you’re going to love it. But first, meet your new heroes:

Detective Lane West
Life’s about to get a lot more interesting for Lane West and the town of Lake Cliff, Illinois. Lane’s proudly served and protected the people of the sleepy Chicago suburb but he’s neglected his personal life. He’s smart, brave and noble but he’s no boy scout. His quiet life is disrupted and things get complicated when he’s roped into an errand for the district attorney and danger arrives on his doorstep. Lane learns he has two objectives: protect the brilliant but exasperating Dr. Aiden Sharp and find some way to keep him.

Dr. Aiden. Sharp
First of all, he doesn’t like it when you call him Dr. Aiden Sharp. Aiden is fine. He has Asperger’s but it hasn’t stopped him from becoming an expert on psychopaths and sadists. He’s also an expert when it comes to getting what he wants in the bedroom and he wants Lane the moment their eyes meet in the airport. Danger follows Aiden but he finds safety in Lake Cliff and Lane’s arms for the first time in years and learns his heart works just as well as everyone else’s.

Mr. Lavender
Is there anything better than a man in a well-cut suit? There isn’t and Mr. Lavender is the best there’s ever been. He wears a suit like it’s skin and is impossible to kill. Many people have tried. He can shoot the eye out a needle and kill his way out of anything. He’s impervious to danger and unstoppable but he’s got one very big weakness: Sage Bradley. Lavender’s willing to risk it all for love but can the world’s greatest assassin be reformed? He moves to Lake Cliff and turns Lane and Aiden’s life upside down and saves them and Lake Cliff along the way.

Sage Bradley
Let’s be honest for a moment. He’s beautiful and his body makes people weak but he’s got terrible luck when it comes to men. He’s on a mission to save LGBTQ teens, comfort the elderly and help communities in Africa because his heart’s as beautiful as his face. It’s that beautiful heart that keeps getting him in trouble and a date with an elegant, enigmatic stranger leads to a wild night of passion and a thrilling mystery that could cost him his heart and his life. Love and adventure leads Sage to Lake Cliff and he finds himself with a new challenge. Can he heal and domesticate a lunatic assassin?

Holy shit! I'm calling this at 38% (I'm in Spark and Flame). This became so SO stupid, and it's too fucking bad considering this could have been AMAZING!

Aiden Sharp is on the sprectrum and he was BRILLIANT, but there was this undertone and feeling of Lane thinking Aiden was cute and adorable and weird during the first three books, and it never felt like an equal relationship to me.
He felt sort of condescending and parent-like at times and yes, Lane did some research on Asperger's, but the things he said and did made me pause, because he kept describing (plainly and understated) that Aiden was a 'child', and I kept thinking:
'Why would you be in a relationship with him, then? And this is creepy!'
Like with Aiden's eating-habits, Lane did not have an ounce of understanding or interest, it was a little discouraging to be honest.

Then we have the Langley-storyline and things took a turn for the completely ridiculous!
“If anyone has any information on Gavin Langley’s whereabouts, I beg you to contact the police. He is incredibly dangerous and it is very likely he will kill again. If you are listening, Mr. Langley, I beg you to turn yourself in. I will be your friend and get you the help you need. Please, stop killing people,”

LOLOLOLOLOL, the crazy, narcissistic murderer will OF COURSE stop killing people and turn himself in, because you asked nicely and wants to be his friend!!!!!
*snickers* This is not funny, but COME ON! This is also the press conference after 3 cars explode on their lawn, killing 8 officers, where the people gathered out front cheered, YES you read that right, people cheered and Aiden and Lane went back into their house when the cars were done exploding!!!!!!
Let me repeat: they go FUCKING back into their house, right after 8 people dies on their lawn.......................
description
description

description

And then they have the most ridiculous press conference ever, but I kept going for a wee bit, thinking I could forget it, but then more shit happens and my tolerance for stupidity just ran out!

Also the editing is atrocious. As I've mentioned before I'm not a native English speaker, so I normally don't comment on this, but there were quite a few mistakes and a scene where Lane was suddenly in bed; making him 'The Flash' considering he was in the kitchen making pancakes 2 seconds earlier.

Since I read the Carlton House books and the cross over in the last book brought up the Boys of Lake Cliff, I went ahead and decided to give them a try.

This omnibus with the first 5 novels is a different way to read them then I would have individually. Individually, with some time between them, I think I would have appreciated this series better. All in a row, it's easier to see a pattern and similarities from book to book with sex scenes and other writing quirks of the author. Sometimes, no matter how tempting, binge reading is a disservice to a series.

The author is very good at storytelling. I LOVE the devotion and can feel the connection from Lane and Aiden. I get it. These guys are connected by the universe somehow and are great characters. Even Lavender is a great character. Sage gets on my last nerve and it's literally impossible for me to believe he knows what love or sacrifice really is. Frankly, he is not the right guy for Lavender no matter how much Lavender keeps trying to convince himself somehow that he is. I grit my teeth to get through scenes with them. I really wonder how the relationship between Jeremy and Sage can be seen as anything but desperately sad more than hopefully satisfying for either of them. Lavender's internal monologue trying to find a balance between Lavender and Jeremy is terrible to watch and Sage, wow, just his, immaturity, insistence on "normal", "ignorance is bliss" mentality and overuse of weed and escapism art is not a healthy relationship in any way, shape or form. Having them interact with Lane and Aiden just points out their incompatibility even more starkly.

Reading them back to back also highlights how much sex these books have. The ratio of sex to real plot and relationship interaction is about 65/35, I would estimate. I think these books have way too much sex in them and doubtful sex most times. I think in the first book, Aiden comes like 5 times in an hour or two. The sex, even after 12 years is always explosive and always frantic and cannot be denied the minute the idea strikes! While the idea of that at heart might be the epitome of love for some readers, I found it overwhelming and unrealistic and ended up balancing too much of these books in the sexual aspect rather than the intimate aspect. When Lane and Aiden are intimate, sharing breakfast, connecting while Aiden tries to understand and be "human" for Lane, when Lane, even after all these years, caters happily to Aiden's food demands, etc, feels more loving to me than the frantic teenage sex 40/50 year old men are implausibly having on page.

Again, reading these books one at a time, with a few days or weeks in between would have probably been a different reading experience because I would have forgotten the improbably amount of sex they had in the prior book, etc, etc, etc....

Oh, and these books are f*cking gruesome, too.

I say all this but I need to add that I they are well written books. This author is a very good writer and can and does instill a lot of chemistry, character and strong plotting (some of it is also beyond ridiculous plotting) sandwiched between all the sex (which is well written too, but goodness, I skimmed a lot eventually). I wouldn't hesitate to go back and visit with Lane and Aiden again. Not so sure about Lavender and Sage but with this whole baby thing, I might have to go see how tortured Lavender is willing to be for Sage while Sage pretends all is well in his happy "normal" household.

3.5 stars rounded up.

(If pressed, I would say Roman and Quinn from A Thief in The Night are my favorite couple/book from her backlist).

Loved the characters and great stories, but

I guess I'm in the minority but I don't understand why straight women are so intrigued by gay men having sex. The characters and the stories are so good and also made me laugh out loud quite a bit. But every chapter had to have a very graphic sex scene in it for some reason. It just doesn't make sense and there is no reason for it. And seriously, gay sex is just not nearly as exciting as she tries to make it out to be. I know because I'm a gay man and I would like to make a challenge to the straight women that love to read about anal sex. Try having it even half as often as the characters you love to read about do it in the books and see how fast the fun wears off. Try doing it every day for just month and then I guarantee it will not be nearly as exciting to read about.
I almost quit reading this series because I was so sick of reading all the porny scenes. But the stories are so well written and you just care about what happens to the characters. I just flipped through the annoying erotica just to find out what happened. Which means I didn't thoroughly read one fourth to one third of the books. Anyway read it for yourself and see what you think.

★★★★☆ ~ 4 Stars ~Overall 4 for the Series Bundle
*Hide And Keep ~ We meet Aiden and Lane who's being stalked but have some chemistry that can't be ignored.

*Safe And Sound ~ Five years of naked happiness, will Aiden survive babysitting?

*Spark And Flame ~ Aiden and Lane continue to work on their relationship skills in the midst of Lane feeling older.

*In The Kill (Lavender #1) ~ Wasn't quite sure what to make of Lavender. Insta-love with Sage, hmmmm. I'm three books in, might as well continue.

*Hide And Kill ~ Now it's getting interesting with the two couples. One just getting started and the other, long-term but just as exciting. Great scenes of various character interactions.

*Bleed And Seek ~ The past comes back to haunt Aiden and Lane, is Lavender just the person to end it once and for all? And damn, what a cliff hanger ending, amirite?!

Overall I really liked this series bundle although I started skipping the sexy scenes because I liked the interplay between all the characters. I will probably finish off the series, just not today.

Boys...hot, sexy men with lots of drama and suspense.

This was my first series by Author K Sterling. The read was an enthusiastic recommendation from a FB group. How I've gone this long without reading Ms Sterling, I have no idea. Her character development is superior. Her characters are charismatic, quirky and funny. Her stories are suspenseful, dramatic and riveting at times. I bought the series and devoured the books one after the other. Aiden and Lane are so fun to follow, I loved seeing their relationship build over the years but my heart lies with Lavender. Lavender is such a complex and amazingly loving man. I will never get enough of him and his relationship with Sage. The icing on top was meeting and getting a sneak preview of Reginald. I'm not a huge fan of a continuation of characters in books but I was sad to finish this series knowing I could only see these boys in a reread. I love getting back into suspense and drama but also I loved how the author seemed to bring out more humor as the series went on.

The author unfortunately decided to take issue with a reader’s choice of taboo/kink in a FB book recommendation group. I understand if she disagrees with a trope, I understand the distaste for it. So don’t read it, don’t write it, express your point of view in a general way and try to educate from your own sm spaces. You do not use a specific reader’s comment to expose them to ridicule or shame; even if you removed their name, you singled them out on twitter. Bad move.

I won’t be reading the newer books that did look interesting but I’ll never know.

K Sterling's The Boys of Lake Cliff is a bundle of books 1 through 5 in the series. From the start, Lake Cliff delights with humor and fun characters.

Aiden's on the spectrum. He's well written as his personality's realistic and adds tremendously to his charm. It's fantastic the way he blurts things out without any filter. I find his bluntness to be refreshing as well as awkward.

Aiden and Lane have instant sexual attraction, and end up as a fantastic couple. I absolutely love and adore them. Later on we meet Lavender and Sage, getting to see their romance bloom. It's actually a super fun and unique meet que, and they're wonderful together. The connection each couple experiences is powerful, leading to some emotional scenes.

Of course, even better yet is when the two couples cross paths. It's fun, entertaining as can be, and adds so much to the series' charms.

As a culmination of several books, there is clearly a lot happening. I'm purposely going to be evasive and just recommend reading this bundle. It's full of action, danger, humor, sex, and romance. I found it to be intense and entertaining, hot and super steamy.

Book 1
The story of Aiden and Lane had a steady pace, it kept my interest till the end. The two were likable, and had great chemistry, the two could heat up the pages. I really liked how the story played out.
Book 2
The story had a steady pace, with enough to keep my interest. I loved it! The second book to the series had me smiling and laughing in some parts of the story. I thought Aiden and Lane are still likable, with great chemistry to heat up the pages. I loved reading more about their life’s. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Book 3
Another great book to the series. Lana and Aiden are my favorite of all characters. I love the pace of the story. The chemistry between them are hot. The author brought out a lot of emotions for this book.
Book 4
The start was a little slowly to get my interest, but once things pick up, I was hooked on getting to know the characters more. The characters were likable. Still have to say Lane and Aiden are my fav still. I thought the story was really good for the 4th in the series.
Book 5
The story has a nice steady pace to keep the story moving along nicely. There was enough going on to keep my interest till the end. The characters are still likable. Loved it. Hope others enjoy reading the series as much as I did.

Well what could be better than starting a lake Cliff book? The answer is simple the whole series in a bundle with one click of the button!
These books have it all amazing men, laughter through to tears. A strong story line and it's easy for the reader to get lost in the books. You get to meet the men of Lake Cliff.
Dr Aiden Sharp is an expert in his field. He has Asperger's syndrome and finds it very difficult to understand others. He comes to Lake Cliff as an expert witness.
Lane is the cop who's asked to protect him. He's a man who stays away from complicated relationships but he's attracted to Aiden and he can see himself doing complicated for him.
Lavender is an assassin but when he's asked to kill a man he has his doubts. Lavender can't make sense of why there is a hit on this man and soon he's protection not assassin.
Sage gives care packages to LGBT youth who are homeless. He tries to get them off the streets. He knits for the elderly so he can't understand why this happening.
Reginald the ever faithful assistant to Lavender. Imagine all these characters and more in one safe easy to get bundle.
K Sterling writes men that the reader can get behind, become invested in. She writes with deep emotion taking the reader on the journey with her. I can't recommend this series strongly enough or in fact anything that this author writes. She takes the reader on a journey they won't forget.

Wow! This is an amazing series and I loved it! Once I started reading this set I had a hard time putting it down and I finished it in three days. It is well-written, gritty, violent, emotional, full of action, compelling, intriguing, smoking hot, sweet, romantic, hilarious and the characters are incredible. Aiden and Lane are wonderful and I love seeing how their relationship evolves over the twelve years the series spans. Their love is inspiring and beautiful even though they have a lot of challenges to face. My favorite part is Lane's ability to see Aiden for who he really is. Sage and Jeremy (I can't think of him as Lavender) are equally wonderful but in a very different way. Their relationship is weird and quirky but it works for them. Jeremy is a totally different and scary person when he is not with Sage and he is trying so hard to be what Sage needs. The secondary characters are great and I love Rose. The last book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next story in this fabulous series.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Awesome series and incredible men

Lane and Aiden have a love to live and die for..literally!! Both equally sexy in their own unique way. Clever and funny and hot sex scenes. But there were too many sex scenes. I mean every time Aiden and Lane enter the same room their having sex. Then we meet Lavender and Jeremy and it's the same way. Sex every time they see each other, you put them all in one book and it way too much! I wound up skimming through those scenes just to get to the actual story. Lane and Lavender are Awesome together!! They take comedy to a whole new level. The chemistry between the four of them is off the charts and thankfully it's all platonic easy fun and friendship. All loyal to each other in so many different ways. All the ways that count...

The characters are interesting and the over all plot lines are captivating. After about the fourth sex scene, it becomes very porno like, and I found myself fastforwarding through the sex scenes to get to the story. I liked the ending and I am inspired to pick up Reginald's book to see if he hooks up with Paul. I don't consider myself a prude by any means, but it felt like the amount of sex scenes actually outnumbered any other. Unfortunately more is not always better, and after awhile, the sex scenes lost their potency. Loved the Mr. Lavender character, hope to see more of him in future books.

Amazing series

I love the Boys of Lake Cliff! This is such a well written set of books. All of the characters are unique and relatable. Mr. Lavender is my favorite, but they are all enjoyable. The dialogue between them is hilarious. The love between couples is palatable. Very sexy!

Very mixed views on this, with hindsight probably wasn't the best thing to read all 5 back to back.

Book 1 - I loved the premise, and the chemistry between Aiden and Lane was really good, there was suspense, interesting supporting characters and enough tension to keep things going. I got a little bored with the repetitive nature of the sex scenes towards the end. I felt that Aiden being on the spectrum was well done, and it was interesting toi read that the authors son was as well.

Book 2 - very similar to book 1, I enjoyed that Aiden and Lane were an established couple, but the plot was thinner and the sex was more repetitive. Some funny moments, but this felt a little stretched.

Book 3- more suspenseful, and interesting plotwise, same issues with the sex scenes though .
The first 3 books centre on the one couple Aiden and Lane over a period of 7 (ish) years, and while the relationship showed development overall I found the reliance on sex too much at times.

Book 4 - new couple Lavender an assassin and Sage , initially his intended victim, and an artist. I really liked Lavender, he was very quirky and the relationship with Sage was interesting. Different enough in tone. I was intrigued to see where this was going.

Book 5 + 6 - probably the strongest in the series, the relationship dynamics were funny, and I particularly liked Lavenders struggles with normality, and how he dealt with them.

In theory this should have been just right for me, but some silly errors, and the overall repetition of the sex marred it, and I think that it could have benefited from tighter editing I will still read more though !

Absolutely amazing

I bought the first book as a single one first and loved Lane and Adrian from the first time they met.
Adrian is such a complex and wonderful character and I love how Lane is the only one who's ever been able to make him understand and feel love.
In the middle of all suspense, violence and grit there's also one of a kind love, seriously hot men in steamy scenes and things that makes you laugh out loud,.

And then we have Lavender and Sage. Even if Adrian and Lane is still my favourites, this pair had me rooting for them from the beginning. Lavender is this cold, detached, clinical assassin but Sage brings out his caring side and he's hilarious with his suits.

I really, really cannot wait to see how things turn out for Sloane and Reginald!

Gay Romantic Suspense at it's best.

K. Sterling has created a memorable group of characters who face some truly terrifying situations. Aiden and Lane and Jeremy (Lavender) and Sage heat up the pages as they come together. I particularly loved the way that the couples were same but different and their love was anything but normal. I recommend these interconnected books as they are gay romantic suspense at it's best and I can't wait to find out what K. will throw at the hot boys of Lake Cliff next.

Great series!

Another great book in the series, with a surprise ending. I love how K. Sterling introduces the next MC into the series and I love the fact that Jeremy is going to become a father, whether he want it or not. I think he’s just confused, he’ll love it. I’m going to read the next book (no. 6) in the series. I recommend K. Sterling books! ❤️

Having all of Lake Cliff stories in one place was amazing. I have loved Aiden and Lane since the very first story and the addition of Lavendar and Sage's stories just makes it that much better.

Read it and you will find yourself looking for Lake Cliff on a map.

My actual average rating for this compilation is 2.58. There were a lot of half stars given, and I'd round up for the whole too. It's one of those series that you academically understand isn't great. The writing is passable, but the editing is a mess and nothing is believable in the slightest. But you somehow still want to know happens what next. I've added links to the individual book for reviews.
