The magic of a blanket cocoon! Great book that brought back lots of 'warm' memories! Really reminded me of Linus from Peanuts. My mom tells me that when I was very little I had my own favorite blanket that I had to be covered with before I went to bed, if I was not covered in the right way I would not stay down!
I just loved this book! The cover gives you the feeling of what this book is about. Blankets...check! Coziness...check! Being yourself...check! The story is about being cozy in a blanket, learning about other creatures who make themselves cozy, and learning how to make yourself cozy in your own blanket. What is not to love? My kids thought that this book was a hoot and then wanted to roll up in their own blanket of coziness. Perfect for winter and perfect for a child's imagination!
Ok, this was pure silly, and also very entertaining. I can imagine incorporating this into a winter storytime on "Warm and Cozy" or something. And it would be very easy to bring a blanket as a prop. The dialogue is charming and the zany-eyed main character is funny.
Cold and snowy is a pretty big understatement right now... so we are cozying up in our blanket cocoons! Blanket: Journey to Extreme Coziness is truly the warmest, fuzziest picture book we could have wished for on this freezing cold day!
“Oh, hello. I didn’t see you there.” This is an entertaining story. The illustrations are made to pop off the page and appear fuzzy like a blanket. I just want to wrap up like a cocoon now! The adventures to be had in a cocoon! But what about when you have to exit that cocoon?
Too cute, and SO relatable at any age. For my sisters and I, it was a blanket burrito...but comfort and coziness are essential no matter the name or final form. The illustrations in this quick read are adorable (hello, big eyes!), but I also loved the brief info on caterpillar transformations and the how-to lesson for your own at-home blanket session!
This book spoke to me! Who doesn't like wrapping up in a blanket cocoon? Kids and adults will love wrapping themselves up in their favorite blankets while reading this book!
Wrapped in a blanket and imagination, the main character compares their blanket cocoon to that of a caterpillar's. Imagining what will happen to the caterpillar, the character then imagines what they can do while in their blanket cocoon and what they will be when they leave it. The possibilities are endless!
I love the use of textured illustrations to show the cuddly feel of a blanket. I also the expressiveness of the character. The expressiveness adds richer depth and whimsy to the story.
I'm excited to share it in a virtual pajama storytime. Thinking about pairing it with "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".
What child does not love to cuddle with their blanket?! A whimsical book that gives hilarious instructions on how to have a journey to extreme coziness! The perfect bedtime cozy story. My grandkids love it! They cuddle with their blankets while we go on this magical journey, learning to use our imaginations along the way. The illustrations draw you in and wrap you up! Highly recommend. A blankie and this book make a perfect baby gift!
Another wonderful book from L. Brantz! Love the illustrations, the beautiful message (especially for today!) and how easy it is to create a a cozy place for/with my little one!
I really, really relate to this child. I feel like most of us do. Who doesn't love to wrap themselves up in a cozy cocoon with a giant blanket, whether it's on the couch watching TV or time to slumber? This kid will tell you exactly how to achieve top tiers of coziness.
Moths spin cocoons, butterflies form chrysalises. This is the only fact the author had to get right as the rest is a bunch of silly stuff about how to wrap oneself in a blanket. The latter premise is great, but the factual error is super annoying.
This book is beautifully illustrated. You can almost feel the texture of the knitted blanket on the pages. For this reason I was under the impression that this might have been a sort of baby introduction to the beauty of needlework, perhaps a cozy blanket that a parent or a special person had made with love for that child.
Still, it's a nice book about how to wrap yourself up in the cocoon of a warm blanket, and using that as a metaphor of being in your comfort zone: enjoyable and important for a time, but you eventually do have to come out of the cocoon and into the world like a butterfly. Not the most original metaphor out there (see, for example, the classic "Hope for the Flowers") but it makes for a nice picture book to read to a young child.
I'm really vibing with cultivating coziness these days (hygge!), so I had to read this book when I spotted it at work.
We get a brief introduction to cocoons (I love the top hat on the caterpillar), instructions to enter your own blanket cocoon, and adventures! (I especially loved space and that the two things on the sea page were sea jellies and an anglerfish!!) There's also a brief dream of desserts which I can totally get behind.
But--what happens when we leave our cocoons? Not knowing is scary, but also exciting! What type of blanket creature will you be? "Or the best thing of all... the amazing you?!"
A perfect book to snuggled up with and read aloud together. I love Brantz's art style and this one adds another dimension with textural collage. The artwork was wonderful and really captured the essence of coziness.
Learn how to create your own blanket cocoon, imagine the adventures you'll have inside, and ponder what you'll turn into when you leave it. Such a sweet story with great energy, humor, and beautiful artwork. An instant classic to be read again and again.
This was a surprisingly informative children's book. Not only did I learn that butterflies wear top hats at all stages of their lives, but also that blanket cocoons will allow their occupant to safely delve the deep seas and traverse the vacuum of space. I will immediately go home and occupy a blanket cocoon of my own.
In all seriousness, this was a cute picture book that would be perfect for winter story times.
