A Real Cowboy Alway Protects by Stephanie Rowe Book 8 of the Wyoming Rebels series. Contemporary romance. Cowboy / CIA merge, fake fiancé troupe. Can be read as a stand-alone but don’t miss the prior books.
I LOVE these cowboys, and self-proclaimed brothers. I’ve been waiting for this book for a long time and it didn’t disappoint. Full of growing emotions and connections, both family and love. These men feel deeply and aren’t afraid to express it. Skylar is just as open and honest about what she’s feeling and it’s a joy to see their relationships strengthen. Choose joy. And that’s what they do. Ok, yes, there is a killer tracking down the heroine, and a threat to her life. But she’s surrounded by very protective and capable cowboys wearing guns and knowing how to fight the danger. She can relax and fall in love with her fake fiancé, and he with her. Can’t she? If she can reconcile her past trust issues. It’s all good. It’s all swoon worthy.
Excerpt: “Logan was leaning forward, his jaw flexing as he watched her. "You okay?" She looked up, and her resistance melted away at the concern on his face. She fluttered her hand at him. "It's a big diamond. I feel like I landed a sugar daddy." He grinned. "I'm definitely the sugar daddy type." "I totally pegged you for that." She sat back in the seat, the tension easing from her body for the first time in hours. "This might be okay." The cold metal encircling her finger made her feel safe. It wasn't a reminder of her past, or a lie about her future. It was the truth that Logan was committed to protecting her. "So, you're in?" "Engaged to a sexy cowboy CIA agent from Wyoming who's my personal bodyguard and protector?" She smiled. "Now, that might be every woman's fantasy." He grinned. "You think I'm sexy?" Ah…that devastating smile and sparkle in his eyes was back. Her heart leapt, and she couldn't keep the smile off her face. "As if you didn't know that you're basically pure temptation all wrapped up in jeans and a sweatshirt.” Excerpt From A Real Cowboy Always Protects by Stephanie Rowe
Excerpt: “She looked down at the ring on her hand, shiny and glittering. "Where are we going to sleep? Together? If we're engaged, they're going to expect that." She looked at him. "Unless your family is the no-sex-before-marriage type?" Logan couldn't help but chuckle at the hopeful expression on Skylar's face. God, he couldn't believe how much she lightened the darkness that weighted him down so constantly. He hadn't expected to have any kind of reaction when she'd put the ring on, but the moment she'd settled it on her hand, something inside him had come alive. A fierce, unyielding possessiveness. Not of the ring. Of Skylar. His response to seeing that diamond on her hand had been so visceral that he'd actually closed his eyes, trying to regroup, to remind himself of what mattered in his life and the promises he'd made to himself.” Excerpt From A Real Cowboy Always Protects ByStephanie Rowe
Holy cow! There were almost five hundred votes for the title for the next Wyoming Rebels book! How awesome is that? Huge thank you to everyone who voted. Most of the titles were fairly well liked, but there was a hands down winner. But one reader, Judy L., gave a suggestion in the comments to tweak it (adding the word always), which made it even more perfect. So, (drumroll please), I am official announcing the title of the next Wyoming Rebels book:
A REAL COWBOY ALWAYS PROTECTS
How perfect is that title for Logan Stockton, CIA Agent, who brings the heroine to Rogue Valley so he can protect her from an assassin? PERFECT.
I don't have preorder links yet, but you can add it to your Want-to-Read Goodreads shelf, and then Goodreads will notify you when it gets released, so you don't need to keep track.
She has done it again. What a wonderful addition to the Wyoming Rebel series. I just love Logan. Him finding the perfect woman to add to his life and lives of his family. This book had it all. I laughed, crying and smiled so wide it did hit my ears. This book had so much action and suspense in it. Love the drama and the romance. I wanted more and didn’t want it to end.
Skyler Jones's character is witty, funny, and hard working. Her past has made her want to seclude herself from everyone. She has no friends, and no lovers, and she prefers it that way. The only person she keeps in her life is her mother, who is in just as much pain as herself.
Logan Stockton is a tall, gorgeous hunk of man. He's not as strong as his body portrays him. He's had a rough life, and is afraid to let anyone in that could hurt him, or that he could hurt. He's spent the past decade working for the CIA so he can focus all of his pain and anger into his job, and he's been a force to be reckoned with.
Skyler and Logan live right across the hall from one another, for the past two years. They've felt the attraction, but their pasts have made them want to keep themselves hidden from the other. When some armed killers come into the building and force Skyler to be bait to get them into Logan's apartment, everything changes.
Their adventure starts pretty quickly into the book, and it's filled with action, hot cowboys, and temptation. Rowe describes Logan so well, I could feel the heat rushing to my own cheeks as I read about him. He most definitely comes off the pages as the sexy, mysterious cowboy she wanted her readers to imagine.
Unlike Logan, Skyler came off the pages as petite, mousey, and full of fear. She played it off really well though with her quick quips and the way she used humor to hide her fear. She was the perfect piece that Logan had been missing his whole life.
Their connection was swoon-worthy. This is one of those books that sates that taste for romance that most of us women in the world wish they could get their hands on in a real man. It was most definitely a guilty pleasure just to devour these pages.
I'd never read a Wyoming Rebels book before, or anything by Stephanie Rowe to be completely honest. Normally I like to start a series from the very beginning, so I don't miss anything of importance. Thankfully every book in the series can be read as a stand alone story so you can read them in any order. I most definitely will be going back to the beginning to read about Chase, Logan's sexy older brother, and Mira in A Real Cowboy Never Says No.
I'd LOVE to thank Stephanie Rowe for giving me the opportunity to read this in ARC form before release date. I know I'm just getting back into reviewing again, but I'm incredibly honored she would give me the chance. I really look forward to reading more of her books in the future, and hopefully I will be lucky enough to continue to stay on her ARC review team!
I received an advanced reading copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
As seen on my blog (Jessie's Reading Corner): Before my review I would like to thank Stephanie Rowe for providing me with an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A Real Cowboy Always Protects is Book 8 in Stephanie Rowe's Wyoming Rebels series. While it is a part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone.
I must admit I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I've never read Stephanie Rowe before but the synopsis really intrigued me as I am a huge fan of cowboy romance and romantic suspense. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this book; I could not put it down and I ended up purchasing a copy of the book for myself to own!
Logan Stockton and Skylar Jones have been neighbors and friends for two years. There's always been an attraction between the two of them but due to Logan's job and both their pasts, they have not pursued anything other than friendship. When Logan's latest mission follows him home and puts Skylar in harm's way, things start to heat up between the two of them as they fake an engagement while they hide out at Logan's family home.
This book is seriously one of my favorite reads of 2021! As I said earlier, I could not put it down! From the very first time Logan and Skylar spoke to each other, their chemistry and attraction for each other just jumped off the page! I loved how open and honest they were with one another; neither had time nor the desire to bullshit the other person. I loved how independent Skylar was and yet not afraid to be vulnerable in front of Logan. I felt an immediate connection with all the other characters/Stockton family members and I can't wait to go back to the beginning of this series and read up on all their stories!
If you are looking for a suspenseful read with a hot protective cowboy, a little steam and no angst, you should definitely read this book! I am definitely going to read Stephanie Rowe again and I can't wait to see where she goes with this series and the spinoff (Hart Ranch Billionaires; first book coming September 14!)
This was such an awesome book! Stephanie Rowe has an amazing way with words. I made the mistake of starting this on a work night, I almost finished it in a night it was that good!
It was so adorable seeing the relationship between Skylar and Logan bloom. I loved the humor in this one. Frigging Eugene 😂 The emotions were real though, you saw the struggle and not just the sweet romance. That’s what really did it for me and made me fall in love with the Stockton crewe even more. You read this and you feel like you are there in their world feeling their emotions that’s how good this book is!
I highly recommend reading this one!
I received an ARC and voluntarily leave this review.
This series just gets better and better. Absolutely devoured Logan and Skylar’s story.
Both Logan and Skylar have a past that makes them hide away in their work. Neither want to ever commit to a serious relationship because of it. However the attraction is like a raging fire between them.
Logan’s work is dangerous and it catches up to him but puts Skylar at risk. Logan has to think fast to save her.
And we head back to the ranch. Catch up with dear old characters and get to know new ones. Love Is definitely in the air on the Wyoming Stockton ranch and the need to protect comes naturally to them.
Packed from beginning to end. I laughed. I cried. I screamed at my kindle. Can’t wait to read the next instalment. I highly recommend this series
A heartwarming story of finding love and trust. I love the Stockton family. They are a group of incredible men who have overcome a very abusive childhood. They are fiercely loyal and when they love and embrace you , you become family for life. Follow Logan and Skylar in their journey as he goes from protector to lover. They have such wonderful chemistry and she reaches through his darkness with her sass and wit to bring him into the light and he teaches her to trust again. A definite must read!
Love this family and was thrilled Logan got a story and what a story! It's one that you can't put down, that'll make you smile and shed a few tears and fall in love with the Stocktons all over again! There's action and 2 people who are afraid to love for different reasons. Will family make them change their minds? A definite must read!
Stephanie has out done herself with this one. I have been so invested in this series!!!! The connection between Skylar and Logan is truly heart warming. I also love how she always pulls the rest of the family in. It gives you the updates we all want! If you love cowboys, romance, and family well this is the book for you!
This is my favorite book in the Wyoming Rebels series, and that is saying a lot with these heroes! For me, Logan was the exact right mix of alpha male hotness and super swoony romantic bits. I love the chemistry between Logan and Skylar, it was off-the-charts hot and had a real build-up that kept me wanting to keep reading without putting the book down. They each brought something significant to their relationship that the other was missing, which made them very likable as a couple.
The issues that were holding Logan and Skylar back did not seem contrived; some of the previous lead characters from this series I wanted to just shake because they were so ridiculous in their reasons a romantic relationship "couldn't work." However, this book NAILED IT with the issues from BOTH lead characters! They were absolutely realistic and each character really needed to take their own journey to get to that glorious happy-ever-after.
It was also great to get some updates from previous Wyoming Rebel family members and check in on their lives. These past characters really rounded out the storyline and enhanced the world-building of how these families made their relationships work through life's trials. That was an unexpected treat I was not expecting.
I HIGHLY recommend this book, and although I recommend reading all the Wyoming Rebels, this one has definitely jumped to my favorite of the series. I will be re-reading this one over and over again!
Logan Stockton has stayed away from his family for 10 years. He's never told them that he is a CIA operative. Just as much as he needs his job to keep his monsters at bay, Skylar, His neighbor across the hall, needs to lose herself in her work for the same reason. Skylar, who moved in 2 years ago is the only light in his dark world, and she enjoys the moments with her hot neighbor.
When Skylar inadvertently becomes involved in a revenge plot against Logan, he decides to take her to Rogue Valley and the Stockton brothers for protection. There, he knows his large family will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. And he needs her to be safe.
Both Skylar and Logan carry some heavy baggage from their pasts. Overcoming What has molded them into who they are now, seems insurmountable. Of course, being with Chase, Mira, and the rest of the Stocktons playing matchmaker, will make for interesting times. Logan is not going to stay in Rogue Valley, he can't, not if he wants to keep the monster at bay. But Chase, isn't going to take no easily.
Despite the horrible past each Stockton brother has survived, they are men of loyalty, heart, compassion, and strength. I loved the way Stephanie Rowe has created a diverse family with a strong connection. I was hooked into the story from the very beginning. I loved catching up with the brothers and their families, and getting another glimpse of the Hart brothers. Logan and Skylar's journey out of darkness, into the light, and to each other was a wonderful and enjoyable read.
This is book 8 in the Wyoming Rebels series. Logan Stockton is a CIA operative. He grew up with 8 brothers and a very abusive drunk as a father and he has the emotional and physical scars to prove it. Logan is in the CIA to use the anger and the darkness from his childhood to do good. Skylar Jones, an architect, has lived across the hall from Logan for two years. She has her own damage from her past as the result of a cheating husband. Logan and Skylar have become friends but neither has been willing or able to take it further. The story begins when Skylar decides to bring Logan a cup of coffee and ends up having two guns held to her head in order to get Logan to open his door. In order to protect Skylar from the gunman that got away, Logan takes her to his family’s ranch in Wyoming as his fiancée. On their way to their HEA, Logan and Skylar grow and strengthen beautifully as individuals and as a couple by learning to let go of their pasts in order to embrace a future neither one ever thought they’d have. This book shows that sometimes the things in our lives that first appear to be disasters turn out to be unexpected blessings instead. The book has a little bit of everything just like you would expect from this series - sweet moments, strong family bonds, sexy times, real life issues, imperfect characters, dangerous high stress situations, and so much love. All the books in this series have a central theme of family - those we are born into and those we create. This book is no different. The Stockton family loves hard and they love by surrounding you with goodness and strength. I wish I could be a part of this family and I cannot wait to read the story of the next brother.
I feel ashamed that this series somehow passed me by! All the back catalogue of this series are going onto the TBR list ASAP!
Skylar is just about the perfect heroine. She is sweet, funny, flirty, hard-working. She may have the *tiniest* crush on her next door neighbour, the handsome but elusive Logan. But when a chance good-deed lands her in hot water, she is going to have to rely on Logan for a lot more than flirty banter!
Logan is just a dream of a lead. He has a lot on his plate as a spy for the CIA. He's just about cut himself off from his own family, all in an attempt to keep them safe from his job. But when things go pear-shaped and his enemies now have Skylar in their sights, well there is no place like home when you want to get off the grid.
Both are carrying scars, theirs are just not as visible as others. Skylar abandonment issues thanks to the horrible treatment of her friends and her ex-husband and Logan has a childhood full of abuse at the hands of his father. Both these broken souls realise that they want and possibly need each other, but neither seem to be prepared to take the first step - both scared to lose what emotional stability they have already.
The Stocktons are the kind of family everyone wants to be part of. Sure they have their issues and problems but when you take on one, you take on them all! Poor Skylar didn't know what to make of all these huggy, handsome, protective males and their spitfire wives.
Definitely a series I'm going to go back and devour!
This is book 8 of the series and is just as addictive as the other 7 , Logan left Rouge Valley 10 years ago to forget his abusive past , and joined the CIA which helps keep the monsters and darkness at bay for the past 2 years he has been living across the hall from Skylar she too has a dark past both have extreme trust issues so they keep the banter flirty but light as they don't feel they can give into to the feelings they have until fate steps in when assassins try to kill Logan with Skylar present Logan manages to protect her but one gets away , this puts a big target on Skylar's back after discussing with his boss he decides to take her and go off the grid the only place he can think of is back to Rouge Valley and his brothers where they pretend to be engaged , this secret lasts all of a few hours as his oldest brother Chase see's right through them , what takes place is at times very funny other times very emotional with all the characters we have come to know and love from the pervious books as well new ones (love to find out about Falcon) we are treated to the wonderful dynamics of this very tight family group who all love unconditionally whilst pushing Logan to see what's in front of him and the possibilities that Skylar can have if she would just lean to trust again .. The Wyoming Rebels books are a must read as who doesn't like protective alpha cowboys!! Prefect.
I fell in love with the Stockton brothers in book one and fall in love all over again with each new story. Slowly Chance's dream of all of his brothers living on the ranch is coming true. Logan and Skylar have been neighbors for two years. Both feel an attraction but neither is willing to act on it. Logan is CIA and he steers clear of relationships because of the possible danger. Skylar's world was shattered when she learned her husband of 14 years had been cheating on her for the last 3. A chance encounter in the elevator with two unsavory men puts Skylar in danger. They are there to kill Logan. She manages to alert Logan and he kills one of them but the other one escapes. Skylar saw his face and Logan knows he will come back to end her. He ends up taking her to the Stockton ranch where she is protected by all the family. She and Logan fall in love and it's a new beginning for both of them. But first they must eliminate the danger. Excellent story.
I received this as an ARC I love the Wyoming Rebels series. Once I started reading the story I couldn't put it down I love Logan and Skylar and all the Stocktons and can't wait for another story. I was happy for the family and in the end the family grew to include more kids and adults with never ending love and happiness for Logan, Skylar, her mom Abby and more. Don't want to give away too much here so will just say if you love cowboy stories you need to read Stephanie Rowe's Wyoming Rebels.
I'm A huge fan of each and every book in this series, and this book is no different! You don't need to have read the previous books beforehand, but they are equally delicious and addicting! Filled with amazing alpha males willing to do everything and anything in order to protect innocents or those they love. Dive in and meet the Stockton family. Born from tragic circumstances, and determined not to repeat mistakes, they love big and protect even bigger. This wonderful book is filled to the brim with action, suspense, amazing characters and romance. However love and family is at the heart of it all....family either by blood or choice, and just as strong. There isn't A dull moment within these pages, and I dare you not to want to read all past and future books within this series 😉. Take the ride and meet these wonderful characters. You won't regret it!
Such a great book! I was all in for Skylar and Logan’s relationship as soon as those elevator doors opened! Fantastic chemistry that oozed off the page, plus lots of very funny and engaging dialogue between the two of them. I liked that they both had issues that kept them second guessing themselves, but not really each other. This is my first Wyoming Rebels book, and I have been missing out because those Stockton men are drool worthy! Strong men who aren’t afraid to show their emotions, whether towards their wives or their brothers, are catnip to this reader. I’ll be going back to the beginning to meet each couple at their start. I love the suspenseful tidbits, as well, but the emotions between Logan and Skylar were my favorite part of the story. Great writing, great characters, great book!
I enjoyed reading this book immensely. Logan and Skylar’s story was full of love, action and intrigue. The ending had me crying happy tears. I want to be part of this awesome family. You won’t regret reading this amazing, fast paced book.
Oh definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year
This series just gets better and better.

Packed from beginning to end. I laughed. I cried. I screamed at my kindle. Can’t wait to read the next instalment. I highly recommend this series
This is a story Skyler Jones and Logan Stockton. These two have lived near each other for the last two years and have tried to ignore the attraction to each other. Because of their pasts they keep each other at arms length. Until Skyler is forced to be bait and be used against Logan. Will they let their fears ruin any chances of finding true love our will the man who holds Skyler hostage destroy it all before it even starts.
If you love cowboys than this is the book for you. It is action packed, funny, and filled with hot cowboys and temptations that will make you want more. Their adventure starts pretty quickly into the book, and it's filled with action, hot cowboys, and temptation.
The characters are well developed, they plot and story line keep you wanting to read more and on the edge of your seat.
This is the first contemporary novel I have read by Stephanie although I have read her paranormal books. I have to say I really enjoyed this story. It really gets you hooked as you follow Skylar, an architect, and Logan, a CIA agent, as due to dangerous circumstances they flee Boston and go to Logan’s family home in Wyoming. They are two very broken people on a rocky journey as they learn to open their hearts, trust people and finally understand that love is important. This was a very well constructed story with characters that you were willing to come together. I will certainly read more of Stephanie’s contemporary novels. I received an ARC and am leaving a totally unbiased and voluntary review.
Logan Stockton lives a singular life as a CIA agent, not letting anyone get close or allowing himself to have feelings for anyone. His childhood was filled with abuse and the love and protection from his older brothers is all that kept him alive. He has channeled his anger at trying to make a difference in the world for others, and thinks this is the only way he can control the monster he feels he has inside him.
Skylar Jones is an architect who suffered unimaginable betrayal from her ex-husband and friends, and she no longer trusts anyone. She works 100-hour work weeks to distract herself from her past and to protect herself from further betrayal. She has lived across the hall from the extremely sexy Logan for two years and while she’s wildly attracted to him, she’s not interested in being anything more than neighbors who occasionally chat in the elevator or hallway.
Both of these characters’ structured worlds are turned upside down when a pair of assassins show up to kill Logan and use Skylar as a human shield. Skylar’s life is in danger since she had come face to face with the assassin who gets away. To protect Skylar, Logan and his CIA colleagues tell her she needs to go off grid and they suggest she go with him to Rogues Valley Wyoming to Logan’s family ranch. Their cover story is Skylar is his fiancée since he rarely goes home to Wyoming and his brothers know he doesn’t date.
The forced togetherness and danger brings emotions to the surface for both Logan and Skylar, but she need to learn to trust and he will need to allow himself to once again feel emotions. The Stockton brothers and their wives and children are thrilled to have the pair at the ranch and play a part in trying to convince them of what’s possible with love.
I loved seeing the interactions between the brothers and how they come together to protect family. The wives are a riot as they welcome Skylar into the exclusive Club of Women who get to have a lifetime of sex with a Stockton brother! Logan is swoon worthy as panty melting hot and so patient and protective of Skylar. Skylar struggles with her emotions and opening herself up fearful of if things go wrong.
This was another wonderful book in one of my favorite series. I love these characters and am always happy to experience the happenings of the Stockton family and their friends.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved lOgan's story! Wow! We have heard bits and pieces about all the brothers, but bringing logan into flesh and blood was just fabulous. Loved his work ethic, hias love of family and the soft squishy stuff he keeps hidden inside.
Skylar has been his neighbor and semi-stalker for a couple of years. Events throw them together and then the sparks really begin to fly. I love when the author takes characters out of their element and lets them flounder for a bit.
Great to see all the brothers together on the ranch. Great catching up with previous couples and families. Loved the secondary characters in this one, especially Skylar's mom.
I can't wait to read more about this group of brothers. Loved it!
*Complimentary copy provided for an honest review.
What a intensive but fun read. I feel like I've been waiting for this book forever. Now that I've read it...I must say the wait was worth it. As with all the Wyoming Rebels books, Logan had a harsh childhood and he is very close to his brothers. His across the hall neighbor has had some horrible things happen to her too. So when Logan and Skylar head to Logan's hometown in Wyoming, the trial, tribulations and great storyline lead to a wonderful read. Though I strongly suggest reading the other Wyoming Rebels books first due to recurring characters. The book universe that contains all these wonderful characters makes this novel one of my favorites of this series as the reader gets great glimpses of what's happened to the previous brothers in the series.
Just when I think I've already found my favorite story in this series, here comes another one! Skyler and Logan both have a lot of trauma in their past, but they end up being each others lifeline without even realizing it. Neighbors for two years when an unexpected situation forces them to get to know each other on a whole other level. I am such a sucker for characters meeting their person and not even realizing it until it's almost too late. There is a little bit of everything in this book, some action, some comedy, and lots of the Stockton family dynamics. I love each of the Stockton brothers, but I'm thinking Logan is my new favorite one! Once I started reading this book I didn't stop until I finished, definitely another amazing book by Stephanie Rowe!
Ok, so this was the first of the series that I read. And while I don't recommend jumping in mid-series as I did, I do recommend you jump into this series ASAP! The characters are strong and well-developed, which makes you continue reading long past the point when you said you were going to stop. Logan, a quiet country boy who harbors a secret past and a dangerous job, and Skylar, an unassuming architect who is broken inside, make a dynamic couple as they attempt to hide from assassins. I honestly wanted it to continue a little longer than it did, but the story concludes so nicely. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to download the rest of the books in the series!
(This is an honest review given in return for an ARC.)
Logan is a CIA agent who doesn’t let anyone get close. Skylar is his neighbor. She has her own trust issues. When assassins try to kill Logan, they end up using Skylar as a shield. To protect her, they go to his family’s ranch in Wyoming with a cover story that she is his fiancée.
This book runs the gamut of emotions. It gave you all the feels. I laughed, I got ready and my heart felt happy at the end. Their is a lot of action and suspense too. Loved this book. I ended up reading it in one sitting. You can’t go wrong with this book but would definitely read them in order as you interact with so many characters from the previous books.
Couldn’t put it down I’ve loved the entire Wyoming Rebels series, but what I particularly enjoy about this story, besides delving further into the family dynamics, is how it reinforces the concept that the family bond goes beyond blood to encompass shared backgrounds and/or shared feelings. I also love the how Logan and Skylar grew from acquaintances to friends to fall in love, and then gain the courage to face their fears to go after what they really want! And I also appreciated that Leila did not get lost in the story! I can’t wait for Quintin and Caleb’s stories! I received a free copy of the book and am giving my honest review.
