Reflections and lessons learned: “…None more so than the fundamental one, that everything is going to be ok…”
Some obvious but helpful mantras and discussions about worrying, impact and thoughts over feelings - a useful one with a wonderfully understanding author and friendly narrator - an author that I’d definitely be keen to read again
This was a collection of positive affirmations. I suppose this would be good to read while journaling by picking a chapter and using it as a prompt. But I listened to it because it was in the Audible Plus catalogue. I liked most of the prompts even though at times it did get a bit cheesy. But nothing exceptional as such.
On the whole, I did enjoy parts of the book and found some aspects quite motivational. Other parts felt incredibly condescending and generic. It just seemed like the book is perfect for anyone with good mental health; whereas those with poor mental health not so much. Like “oh read this page and you’ll feel amazing”. As generic and cute as the mantras were, which I feel would be perfect for meditation or breathing exercises, the book is somewhat lacking motivational techniques. Yes, have these mantras, but practice them in a way that is able to calm the mind and body. Good read for those with good mental health who just need that little extra push.
Hated, no relation to the practicalities of my life.
"relax everything will be ok" how if you do nothing about it.
"you always have a free choice". No, a choice perhaps but all choices are not available to all people at all time. The choices available to people is often restricted by outside factors.
"You only have to justify your decision to yourself". Again no, many of us have to justify everything we do to the courts, to bosses etc.

I really enjoyed listening to this one. It was really empowering in so many ways and at the end I was left feeling refreshed, motivated and humble. Here are some of my fav life boosting mantras 👇 -if you can do something about it, do. If you can’t, let it go. -I am worthy. Don’t be short changed. You need to understand your worth in order to receive it. -I see the best in others. Focus on who they are as a person and not your frustration in the moment. -when delivering a dose of tough love, be supportive. Focus less on what you want to say and more on what you want them to hear. This will get your message across. -i like myself. Not everyone else will but what matters is if I do. -i trust my judgement. The only wrong decision is indecision. -I care deeply. My fears are proof something matters. -I value balance. Commit to having harmony. -I celebrate my success. Don’t wait for external validation. Don’t play chicken with your self esteem. -I have integrity. Always do what’s right, no matter how much courage it takes. -I respect myself. The hardest commitment to honour is usually the one you made to yourself. It’s ok to say no to others to give back to you. -my feelings don’t control me or my actions. What matters is how much power I choose to give them. -I value myself and deserve to be treated well. Call people out on their behaviour. -imperfect action will always take you further than no action at all. -my efforts determine my experience. I can’t control the outcome but I can control my efforts. -I deserve joy. Aim for happiness always. I wonder what your top take aways will be?!
🌟🌟💫 If I read this at any other time, I would have rolled my eyes and chucked it as it has many clichés and just felt like reframing of the same thing for the most part i.e. to fill the pages.
Given that I am going through something now, I decided to be a tad more generous and award this 2.5☆ but let's not push it.
It is a beautifully tactile book, with some of the cover decoration raised. Nicely laid out. Nothing really original in the content but I did like the format: small chunks of positivity to be digested at will. But what I loved most was the sentiment with which it was gifted to me.
I chanced upon this book at the library. But seriously, anyone especially the stressed / depressed / pessimists should totally buy this book and keep it near you. It's got full of wisdom and invaluable advice. Trust me, you will not regret having read this book.
This was an interesting read. It was well set out, broken into bitesize sections across two pages, making it easy and accessible. It was fun going through and reflecting on areas of my life. It could have done with a bit more guidance. It told you to do something but didn't tell you how or give suggestions. But other than that, it was an easy to read, engaging, thought provoking read.
