A Turtle's View of the Ocean Blue

Rate this book
Dive into this stunning guide that explores the underwater world, its wildlife, the challenges it's facing and how you can help to protect it.

Join your sea turtle guide as you navigate every inch of our oceans, from the sunlit surface to the deepest, darkest depths.

This beautiful book will help you explore the five oceans on our planet, meeting the creatures who live there and finding out just how their incredible surroundings work. From tides and currents, to migrations and conservation, see our oceans in action and learn how you can help to save them. This is a great follow-up to the very successful A Cat's Guide to the Night Sky, as it introduces young readers to our oceans, the underwater wildlife and the natural phenomena that take place as well as discussing the challenges we're currently facing and what we can do to help save our big blue world. The book contains a glossary and is suitable for children aged 6+.

Written by expert author Catherine Barr, who previously worked as the Greenpeace Sea Turtle campaigner, and with gorgeous artwork from celebrated illustrator Brendan Kearney, this is a must-have for all young readers.

I was inspired to write my first book The Story of Life by my two girls, for whom I searched in vain for the story (rather than a text book) of evolution – in 2015. Previous to unexpectedly becoming a children's author, I worked for Greenpeace International as a campaigner on wildlife issues for many years, before becoming an Editor at the Natural History Museum in London, where I wrote summer exhibitions on Myths, Monsters and Dinosaurs. I now write narrative nonfiction that I hope will spark questions, interest and action.

I am a proud Patron of Reading for a local school and visit schools and festivals with workshops inspired by my books. I love what I do and hope my books inspire curious and challenging conversations, as well as wonder for the natural world.

Great book except for the small part where it says Columbus *found* the Americas. Um, why is this still being incorrectly touted to children??

This book has been in my pile for so long, and when I start reading it, I know this is the kind of book children would enjoy if they want to learn more about the different aspects of ocean.

However, the turtle as a protagonist for this book does not seem to have any function except that it appears in every spread. I didn’t notice its existence until I finished reading and check the title of the book again…

Perhaps it’s a great idea for kids to check and read each page, but as a nonfiction the book title and its content can make more sense. It’s more pragmatic and lesson-teaching in some way…and it will be so much better if the turtle can really help with the narrative.

This book is very similar to another book called the Sea book by Charlotte Milner both are very important information about the sea... and also about conservation! Still a good book but the two books are eerily similar!
