For Kate Klaver, an emotionally detached housewife from Sunton, Iowa, the pressure to keep secrets of an imprisoned marriage became difficult. For her husband, D, burying those secrets before they surfaced became his ultimate goal. Therefore, he set out to destroy his wife's credibility- declaring Kate mentally unstable. Rumors swarmed among families and friends that intervention followed by committal was Kate's fate. Then, an unprovoked beating from D enraged Kate to take back her power.
Powerful read. An inspirational memoir. You find yourself fighting for this victim. God Bless Kate Klaver for exposing her abusive marriage. Red flags waved.
This memoir was so intense and shook me to the core with anger in so many ways. It is hard to believe that DV can be hidden for so long without anyone noticing.
In my experience with loving someone who was a victim of DV, the isolation was the biggest sign that I noticed .. always making excuses.
I applaud this author for finding her voice and choosing freedom over fear!! 💜
Informational story talking about hidden domestic violence both physical and psychological in relationships. This booked proved, “you can never judge a book (or people) by its cover”.
Not an easy read in parts, especially for survivors of DV/SA, however VERY important read!! Thank you for writing your story to show others that hope & healing is possible- no matter HOW long you may have been trapped!! Bravo!
I was asked to read this book and post a review on Amazon. I liked how the author had her own faults also and was first to call herself out on them. I’m glad she was able to end her old life and start fresh even at the age of 57. This author is from the same county I live in when makes it even more interesting.
Grateful for this book. I was married to an extremely abusive pastor 29 years who left me penniless and everyone believing I was the crazy one. I started to read this book and couldn't put it down. The same game of your the crazy wife with the problems that I lived through. It made me realize I wasn't the only woman labeled crazy by an abusive husband. Thank you for sharing your story to help others An eye opening book
Incredibly well written. So much insight in just 139 pages. Tells the truth about a violent marriage. I am myself both a survivor of domestic violence (verbal) and a social worker. I could not recommend this book more highly. It is truly a must read!
