Reading this book felt like a waste of my time. I hated sooooo many things about this book.
The writing was just atrocious and repetitive. I felt like if I had to hear one more time how poor Jack was, I would've thrown my kindle. I get that the author was trying to make the characters unique, but its just unbelievable that Jack is extremely hot, valedictorian, the most popular guy in school and also the kid from the other side of the tracks. Joni, on the other hand, was a limp noodle. She didn't do anything and I kept forgetting she was part of the book. And I know the author was trying to do some kind of bully romance, where he only picked on her because she was this spoiled rich girl, but it honestly felt abusive.
And what gym teacher looks the other way when students are verbally and physically abusing a fellow student?!? And then Joni refuses to tell her family that she wants to transfer because she's being bullied. Isn't the fact that she came home with broken ribs a little bit of a clue? Wouldn't that raise some questions?
Thank god this book was on Kindle Unlimited so I didn't waste any money on it.

I really didn't enjoy this book, it felt like a lot was going on but nothing really happened.
We learn about Jack and Joni's history in high school and see them bump into eachother in college. I feel like Jack isn't a "bad boy" as the description says, he was a poor, straight A student with a difficult background, he generally wasnt horrible to people or mean just for kicks.

Overall I feel like this book touched on a lot of topics; dealing with poverty, family secrecy, doing bad things for a good reason etc, however the way these conflicts were resolved so easily or brushed aside in the end made them seem almost trivial despite them seeming to be pivotal plotlines in the book.

I've enjoyed quite a few of Stephanie's books, mainly from the Boston Brawler's series. But this new series about college football, this was a great book to a new series.
This book follows Jack and Joni, two students at St. Paul University. They're hometown enemies with deep secrets that need to stay hidden and it takes an impromptu run in to spark a path that leads them to surprising revelations. So much happens in this book from heartbreak, to sports drama, college problems, family issues and just so much! I thought it really had everything and I enjoyed seeing Jack and Joni really lean on each other for support. Especially Jack, he seemed to just have the world on his shoulders and Joni seriously walked into his life at the right moment because I think he needed someone to share the burden. The opening introduction to them was just heartbreaking and I'm glad there was more to the story. Although the story was briefly talked about while they were at St. Paul's, I really wish they had gone into detail about everything between each other because I think Jack needed to know how Joni felt and all the pain he caused her. I literally felt so heartbroken for Joni in that beginning story and I needed to see more remorse from Jack. My only other trouble was that it felt a little slow in the end and I couldn't it get wrapped up fast enough. Overall, I'm really happy with this book! There were some steamy scenes, great football plays and some really heartbreaking moments and it made for a really fun and heartwarming read. I'd easily recommend Stephanie Queen and her books to sports romance readers and I'm looking forward to what this new series has in store for us.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. A lot closer.
This story kinda dark but it's fun. It's stressful and hostile but will keep you totally hooked on it all. There's a thin line between love and hate and both take the same amount of passion.
Joni's merciless high school bully, Jack, gets away with everything because he's the star quarterback. So much so that she can't take it anymore and transfers schools. Four years later Joni is now transfering into a new college. The same college that Jack Hunter is the quarterback of, the star, the Big Man on Campus. The hate is still very strong between these two, he always hated her because she was the rich girl and he was so poor. She hated him because he was such a nasty mean person and always had the perfect grades while she was barely getting by.
This is where the 'keeping your enemies closer' comes in handy. He didn't want any secrets of his past out and Joni is the one that could out him and humiliate him or worse. But if she outs his secrets her own family secrets will come out as well. They need each other to stay silent and Jack could also use her to up his image in time for his senior year Heisman trophy nomination.
This is one crazy ride. I liked it a lot!!

A story of two wounded souls which knows each other's painful secret past. Joni comes from privilege and Jack from the other side of the tracks. It's a heartfelt story that will tug on your emotions. At some point it felt too slow but it picks up speed quickly. It will leave you turning the page to see how it will all unfold. The author also expertly entwined the intimate scenes to add to the story not just to include them. Both Joni and Jack deserve their happily ever after.
I read some of the negative reviews and I would like to clear some things.
1. He didn't just pick Joni out of nowhere to bully her. He bullied her because she represented everything he couldn't have. I'm not just talking about her wealth and family standing. Her. In his widest dreams he couldn't aspire to have her.
2. He wasn't keeping his secret of being poor and using all his money on supporting his mom, purely out of shame. It was a necessity. If people found out he was poor they would look more closely at his finances and discover his secret job.

I loved this book! The story of Finn and Vivian is wonderful, heartwarming and full of all the things that make a book worth reading! After turning down a pass made by a very prominent woman, Finn’s career in Boston is now in jeopardy. To help his image, they decide he needs a fake fiance. Enter Vivian. She’s an intern for the team and offers to be his fiance. Having had a crush on him for some time, she is more than willing to play the part. They do their best to keep it fake but they end up developing feelings, though Finn won’t even admit it to himself. His mother and Vivian will work together to bring down the socialite that got Finn in this predicament in the first place and it will shake his faith in Vivian. When she takes ill during his last game of playoffs, he realizes just how much she means to him and how real their relationship really is. He will offer to make their engagement real and it will lead them to their happily ever after.

Finn plays for the Boston Brawlers Hockey Team and when he is accused of making a move on the CEO's wife which he didn't do they suggest that to save his reputation he needs to have a fake fiance but he is not happy about it but has no other option. Vivian offers to help Finn and he said okay and now they have to learn as much as they can about each other so no one suspect's anything. Will it all work out for them or will they both crash and burn. Omg I love this book and series so much with all its twists and turns and I can't wait to read the next book. This book is a real page turner and you have to keep turning to see what happens next. I recommend you read this book and series as Stephanie Queen is a brilliant author and writer and her books are definitely worth reading.

I loved every minute of this bad boy fake fiancee sports romance that kept me glued to the book from the first word to the last, sitting on the edge of my seat and hanging onto every word. I really liked Finnegan Reed, bad boy goalie for the Boston Brawlers who needs to rehabilitate his image or be traded, and enjoyed his dynamic with the other characters, especially nerdy team intern Vivian Frost who volunteers to be his fake fiancee while the team tries to win the Stanley Cup. Ms. Queen knows how to weave an emotional, entertaining and steamy romance that moves seamlessly between Finn and Vivvie's POV and I can hardly wait for book four in this must-read series. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review. I also purchased a copy for my keeper library.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the 3rd book in the Boston Brawlers Hockey romance series. Each book can be read as a standalone. This is a fake fiancee romance with a HEA ending.
Finn learned from a young age that you can't trust woman. They will do anything to get what they want and a scorned woman is even worse. That's how he finds himself, the ultimate bachelor, engaged to be married.
Vivvie is a quiet mousy girl that loves everything hockey. She has just landed her dream internship helping PR department of the Boston's Brawlers when an even bigger chance of a lifetime falls in her lap. Can she do it without getting her heart involved with her favorite player?
This was a really good sweet romance that had me swooning. Can't wait to read more of these hockey hotties.

fun read, with entertaining banter and fun situations. Finn is put into a awkward position that calls for him to have a fake fiance, he likes the puck bunnies and has no plans for a relationship so when a fake fiance is called for he's clueless to whom he'd ask. In steps Vivian, the mouse of an intern. She's so totally not his thing...well, that's before the team's PR gets a hold of her, after her makeover his eyes are opened. He's got commitment issues, mom issues, boss issues and hands off issues and Vivvie's crush is coming to realization, well to a point. These Boston Brawlers are fun reads!

I really enjoyed reading this book. Finn and Vivvie are thrust into a fake fiancée relationship after he’s accused by the team owners wife of making inappropriate suggestions. It’s all a lie but in order to save his reputation, drastic steps need to be taken. The story delves into Finns background and his relationship with his mother, whom he has no time for. Vengeance is served and Finn is absolved but not before there is a little bit of a angst. Well written book with great characters.

Relationship status: Complicated. Joni and Jack's past history is neither nice nor neat. Bullying and pranking are only a few of the issues. And when they run into one another 4 years later... well, nothing has really changed. But the stakes are higher and the secrets may just ruin a future. Will the past be forgotten as they try to move forward? Will the more recent past cause even more trouble than expected? Will this enemy to lovers story have a happy ending?

Jack and Joni have quite the history, but is it a history that leads to love or is it the kind of history that makes you want to hate him forever. This story was a fun read that made you wonder if things will turn out the way you think. It had me on edge a few times...so take a chance and give this book a read. I don’t think you will regret it!

A gritty, extremely combustible and raw romance. Jack and Joni are childhood enemies with a complicated past. They each have secrets and when they run into each other on their college campus the attraction between them ignites and they enter into an alliance to ensure their secrets stay secret. While coming to rely on each other, they develop real feelings and become the support system they each need. Jack and Joni’s story has all the angsty emotion and I couldn’t put it down.

While Stephanie writes a awesome sports romance she seems to bring a real life issue into her books, she does it well. Read this book!

Filled with drama, I really enjoyed Joni and Jack’s story. I really disliked Jack but he finally grows up and man-ups! Joni is a timid girl who turns into a strong woman. I really like that she was stronger in the end. Both have healing they need to do in order to make their relationship work, so that made the book even more interesting. This is my voluntary and honest review.

This book was good. Believable chemistry, a little short on descriptive hot scenes but what was there was yummy. Joni was a solid heroine and jack was adorably tortured and sexy. Wish we could have skipped the break up but I always feel that way.

Joni is an awkward junior in high school student at the beginning of the story. She grows up during the story to become a self-assured young woman who knows her own mind. Jack is a senior in high school and Joni's own personal bully. He grows up during the story to become big man on campus with dreams of getting selected by an NFL team. They never thought they'd see each other again after high school but once they reconnect, they are drawn to each other. Sometimes destiny has plans for you.
Joni has to deal with major upheaval in her life during the course of the story. Her family dynamic had a solid background story. Watching her family unravel made sense and her reactions were good. I was hoping for Joni to have further closure with her parents but it wasn't necessary. Jack has been living with upheaval his whole life. His journey to self-discovery was huge. He went from being so driven by a single goal all the way to self-acceptance (no, that's not a spoiler).
What did I have a problem with? The beginning of the story was weak. For the first 25% of the book, I didn't really connect with both characters. I kind of wanted Jack to get knocked down more than a notch or two. I also had a problem with something that happens around 75% of the way through the book. I don't think that issue concluded in a realistic way but this book is fiction so I need to suspend disbelief. Finally, Joni has a big announcement at the very end that made me roll my eyes. Honestly, that announcement didn't need to happen. None of this was a deal-breaker because this was a good introduction to a bigger world.

Stephanie Queen has a talent for spinning familiar tropes in creative ways that keep me involved in the story. Finn and Vivvie are a great ‘bad boy’ and ‘good girl’ pairing, brought together in a fake engagement arrangement to try and save him from a vendetta by a married woman whose advances he had spurned. They are both characters with powerful reasons for having developed their respective personalities.
I never give spoilers, but I will give a heads up that Finn recounts very disturbing behavior exhibited by his mother almost a decade ago that could potentially be triggering for some readers. It is powerful though, and a big part of the reason he is so emotionally distant from women. Vivvie is smart and sweet, and has an independent spirit. She goes after what she wants, whether that is having a college major that some people mock, or volunteering for the chance to play the fake fiancée of the athlete on whom she has a crush,
I enjoyed the story, and the interaction between the main characters. I actually wish we had seen even more interaction between them. The secondary characters were also vivid. I thought the ending was great, really a cinematic finish. I already pre-ordered the next in the series!

She goes after what she wants, whether that is having a college major that some people mock, or volunteering for the chance to play the fake fiancée of the athlete on whom she has a crush,
I enjoyed the story, and the interaction between the main characters. I actually wish we had seen even more interaction between them. The secondary characters were also vivid. I thought the ending was great, really a cinematic finish. I already pre-ordered the next in the series!

What a great start to the series. I have to admit, I was all over the place with my emotions – I was sad, mad, happy, excited and frustrated! There were so many secrets kept throughout this story that you had to wonder if they were ever gonna come to light. This is the story of Joni and Jack. Joni is the rich, shy girl next door who was bullied in high school by the infamous Jack – the star of the football team who also happened to be poor. Jack was dealing with his own demons and took it out on the one person who could tell all of his secrets. Jack’s senior year in college is when he runs into Joni again – she transferred out of high school to another school to get away from the bullying. When Jack sees her again, he realizes that she’s no longer intimidated by him and has gained some confidence. They agree to be frenemies, so they can keep each other’s secrets. But will spending time together change the way they feel?
I love how the characters faced their demons and stood up for what they believed to be the right thing. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy through Hidden Gems ARCs for an honest review.
