Reconstructing Evelyn

Rate this book
Evelyn Johnson is determined to take back her life. The life stolen from her by an abusive husband. The life she’d thought she would have as a teenager, before she met the man of her dreams. The man who quickly became a living nightmare. She lands a job, enrolls in college and rents an apartment.

When she sees a flyer asking for volunteers at the local domestic violence shelter, she doesn’t hesitate. At first, she finds it difficult seeing herself in the women there. Until she meets Leslie and latches onto her, confident she can help the young woman escape.

But when her life starts to unravel and tragedy strikes, Evelyn is left questioning her past, her future and her own strength.

The sequel to Finding Evelyn, Reconstructing Evelyn continues Evelyn’s journey as she works to rebuild her life – one shattered piece at a time.

Michelle Leigh Miller has been a writer for as long as she can remember. While creative writing has always been a part of her life, she spent most of her writing career as a journalist. In January 2016, she dusted off a completed novel that had been gathering dust on a flash drive and published it on Amazon. That experience reignited an old flame she thought had long ago burned out.

When she isn’t writing, she is usually reading, juggling the lives of her family, learning new things and occasionally binge-watching Romantic Comedies.

One of my favourite recent reads in respect of modern romantic drama was Finding Evelyn, in which the eponymous heroine escaped her abusive marriage to find love and friendship and, more importantly, herself. I was delighted to receive an ARC of the Fabulous sequel, Reconstructing Evelyn. Michelle Leigh Miller takes us further into the story of Evelyn as she builds a new life for herself, including volunteering at a shelter and finding her first job, with all the associated insecurities and romantic complications. The introduction of the battered Leslie as a mirror image of the woman she used to be and the fate that awaited her, lends the book a heartfelt poignancy and a sense of impending tragedy. The novel leaves us rooting for her as she searches for independence and a true sense of self. Recommended
