KIM YOST is the creator of two five-book series: The Life Chest Adventures and The Life Chest Extreme Adventures. A third, The Life Chest Infinite Adventures, is in the works. The stories feature mysteries, treasure hunts, and time travel as the main characters discover the powers found in their families' life chests. Kim is a lifelong adventurer himself, bringing the incredible cities and landscapes of the world's most thrilling locales to the page for young adventurers everywhere. He lives in Victoria, BC.
The beginning narrative takes place in 2151 with a grandpa telling his granddaughter stories from the items in his Life Chest. He’s starts with how in 2101 a visit with his cousin in NYC when he first learns about his family’s Life Chests changed his life around.
Most of the stories are from things he got from his Great-Great-Grandpa Kim’s Life Chest: an old book of stories about the life of Marco Polo, his journey to China and the history of how their family began the Life Chests, a Jade dragon, etc.
The story is a bit confusing with the time POV flips back and forth. And a lot of this feels like a commercial for selling the Life Chests, especially since the owner of the company wrote the books, making the storyline feel a little awkward. Though there is some cool historical information. But it didn’t keep my attention and I ended up not finishing it.
