Returning from his latest safari, geologist and explorer Rex Brandon discovered the body of a man concealed in the jungle near the Treloo Hills. His first impression was that the unknown man had died as a result of being attacked by a leopard—there were long, gaping rents made by claws in the exposed surface of the dead man’s chest. More puzzling were the deeply scored bruises around the ankles, indicative of ankle chains, and the small silver charm on a gold chain around his neck.
