Libro no recomendado.
An excellent book for tying up all the ends of sloppy thinking and moving out of comfort zones. If you're a procastinator and fed up with it, this is the book for you.
But it does require a level of commitment. It gets results if you follow the exercises. You will be "doing" 10 days after beginning the book, as it turned me from an overweight procrastinator into a slim, fit, "do-er".
It's the cheesy, hokey feeling that prevented me to keep on reading this book. If you are like me, you would prefer actually learning about the real nature of willpower based on scientific experiments, so this book probably won't satisfy you.
For a deeper understanding on willpower, you may want to give "Willpower Instinct" by Kelly McGonigal a try.
When you see other people's ratings here below 4-star feel free to ignore them completely. After reading those I can clearly see that their "Hyde" is speaking instead of them :)
The author calls our internal identity by the name of Hyde. This is a simplification. We all have different (and many) internal identities that stop us from doing what we want or even need.
Yeah, he oversimplifies that, but for a reason. If he would go into much more detail than we would find many excuses not to do his exercises and use a system for achieving our goals.
His stuff works. Of course, after do you do all the exercises thoroughly and use all the tools on a daily basis.
This is not a book to read in one go. You should read it at least for 10 days.
At the end of the book, you'll see how to incorporate what you have been doing/learned in the last 9 days.

If you want to go deeper with removing different limiting beliefs you have (and we all have some) then I would suggest after you start working on your project to find some other tool to deal with other beliefs that are not mentioned in a book. Maybe some releasing technique like Sedona Method or use PSTEC system, for example. - And if you want to find out more about our identities that rule our lives read Self-Therapy by Jay Earley (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...).
Plus, read books by Peter Michaelson to learn how we additionally self-sabotage ourselves and why we generally suffer (https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...).

Anyways, if you are a procrastinator read this and implement it daily (it's a very, very simple process).
For a book with "self-" in its title it is an exceptionally well written one. Bryant knows what he is talking about, it is not another kind of miracle-you-don't-even-have-to-finish-it-to-be-a-superman book. It is coherent, filled with advices and stories based on careful analysis of the way human mind works, and backed up with observations Bryant made during his long career in the field. You can read it in parts, it is designed for people who lack time, but doing what it tells you to do, you will increase your ability to organize that time and maybe not gain more but effectively use what you have. Given that you want to organize your time :). As he brilliantly unfolds to reader, self-discipline is not something person can have or not, it is a tool that one needs to learn how to use. Just as simple as that.
This is hands down the best book on self-discipline I've ever read. It goes through psychological exercises to help pin point your particular breakdowns in discipline, then uses practical tools to counter them.
The book starts out a little hokey and sometimes appears like it's saying the usual advice, but then has a few recommendations added on that make all the difference. Stick with the book, and do the exercises.
The book taught me why we procrastinate. I've never really thought about it before so that helped me a lot. I think that the steps in the book require more effort than the tasks I have to complete so I stopped using them after a few weeks. It did motivate me to create my own method to be more organized and stop procastinating so in a way it changed my life.
I didn't really learn anything new here, just stuff I'd heard before. Basically, you have a side of you ,which the author calls Hyde, that sabotages what you want to do and acts like a child, whom you need to come to terms with before you can get anything done. Also, you should understand your subconscious fears that prevent your success and do a lot of planning before you start working on your goals. Basically, that was it. It was OK, but I really wasn't that impressed.
The author takes a rather imaginative approach when it comes to discipline. Saying that everyone has a 2nd personality he likes to call Hyde.
Hyde is the reason for your pessimism, cynicism and all the bad stuff.
You can say that Hyde doesn't like discipline and restriction and is all about fun, pleasure and all the good stuff. That's why he tries to sabotage you.
It's not for everyone but it spoke to me more than scientific mumbo jumbo.
Update
The real question is, does it work?
Yes, yes it does.
As long as you memorise and bring all the lessons to life. It's important to refresh your knowledge every now and then.
Personally I think that 10 days is enough to see small changes, but not enough to change your life. It will definitely take time to form a healthy relationship with your Hyde.
This book demands reader participation. If you don't do the exercises, you won't know if it will work. While reading it I could hear my own Hyde telling me "come back to this later", "you don't really need to do this exercise now" just like with every other self-help book I've read. However I did not give in! Do you have to read it in 10 days? No. Take whatever time you need. Will your life change in 10 days? Not likely! You still have to do the work after reading the book! I had the opportunity to get through it in 3 days so I did and it was intense in the amount of effort I took to complete each step. I still need to fully work through the final stages of preparation etc. however I have never felt more ready to tackle the first giant goal on my list, one that I've tried to reach so many times in the past, without ever getting to the level of success I'm looking for. Yes, much of this is stuff I have read elsewhere and seems like it should be common sense (this book really should be used as a textbook in middle school and high school), yet the author outlines the steps with simplicity and in a way that is endearing, making it not so overwhelming that you stop before you start.
This book gives some tips but I cannot say that the writing and the format is really that good. I didn't find the book too useful or entertaining. Furthermore there is a lot of fluff. Also, I believe that some of the stuff is somehow dubious. For example "VItaminds" (which are affirmations) have been shown that they do not help you that much in reaching your goal. So the science on it is rather dubious. I believe that Kelly McGonigal's book "The Willpower Instinct" is a much better book on this subject
Helps ! a little ! As it said, to deal with a problem we must first recognize it. This books surely helps you do that. But solving is still in our hands. Writing goals and lists, everybody knows that! Still, this can help. Worth trying !
I totally agree with Theodore Bryant when he said that self discipline is a teachable and learnable process, that it's not a personality trait. This book is suitable for everyone!
its was great book give us opportunity to have discipline in your working life, but hard to implement in our daily work considering the situation of Afghanistan
There's a part of you who DO NOT want you to build the SKILL of self-discipline. Meet your inner Mr.Hyde, your fun-loving distracted inner-child and learn how to make it your friend so you'll enventually go from thinking to doing with more ease in your life. I really enjoyed this book and did all the exercises with my girlfriend, she really gained a lot from it. Recommended.
A good book that not only explains what the self-discipline is, but also helps the reader to analyze his personality and deep physiological problems, it gives some practical exercises, and moreover, it presents practical advice and information about the self-discipline and explains how to achieve the best results in life.
This is the first book I read about self-improvement/productivity/time-management with an approach that consist on starting from the mind, from working on the limiting thoughts that keeps us from performing at our best potential to concise steps to build self-discipline. I think this book can be helpful for anyone. The author`s writing is witty and simple, which makes the book quite enjoyable.
I liked the book, plain and simple language. Some important things that I learned from the book are: 1) Importance of Reward system; 2) It is never about Time Management, its always about self management. 3) Set "Target Date" not "deadline".
This book is a practical guide to establishing goals and setting psychological boundaries for yourself. You really will need a minimum of 10 days and privacy to read this book as it takes you through exercises.

If I were stranded on a deserted island and could only bring 3 things, it would be this book, a pen and paper. In all seriousness, I cannot possibly recommend this book more heartily. It is all that is advertised and more, a complete 180° game changer.
This book (workbook) changed my life. The insights I gained about why I could never get anything accomplished, why change was so difficult, and simply why things just weren't going how I thought they would! If I could give this book to everybody I know....I so would!
